As the Wheel of Time turns, places wear many names. Men wear many names, many faces. Different faces, but always the same man. Yet no one knows the Great Pattern the Wheel weaves, or even the Pattern of an Age. We can only watch, and study, and hope. ~ Robert Jordan
Different Faces quotes by Robert Jordan
You know, he would go and look at different funny books because he wanted his character to be different and make different faces. I saw a funny book in his room and it looked like the same character he was playing. It was about a duck. ~ Bubba Smith
Different Faces quotes by Bubba Smith
Whenever she walked along the streets of Manhattan, she looked at all the different faces coming toward her and, despite their different features and colors, she regarded them all as Americans. ~ Francesca Marciano
Different Faces quotes by Francesca Marciano
Nothing is different here and now than it used to be: The people whom I need most are gone, and the ones who remain do nothing to help me get to where I need to go. Different names, different faces, but the end result is still the same. ~ Allison Winn Scotch
Different Faces quotes by Allison Winn Scotch
Truth, and goodness, and beauty, are but different faces of the same All ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Different Faces quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
All men are the same. They just have different faces so that women differentiate them. ~ Marilyn Monroe
Different Faces quotes by Marilyn Monroe
The different faces of all people on earth show that all people on earth have different hearts, mindset and understanding. He who understands people well understands the true meaning of maturity and knows how to act well towards people with a good understanding! ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Different Faces quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
There is no mystery in a looking glass until someone looks into it. Then, though it remains the same glass, it presents a different face to each man who holds it in front of him. The same is true of a work of art. It has no proper existence as art until someone is reflected in it
and no two will ever be reflected in the same way. However much we all see in common in such a work, at the center we behold a fragment of our own soul, and the greater the art the greater the fragment. ~ Harold Clarke Goddard
Different Faces quotes by Harold Clarke Goddard
A romantic man often feels more uplifted with two women than with one: his love seems to hit the ideal mark somewhere between two different faces. ~ Elizabeth Bowen
Different Faces quotes by Elizabeth Bowen
Apparently, all men were the same. It was like God had given them different faces just so that women would be able to tell them apart. ~ Rajaa Alsanea
Different Faces quotes by Rajaa Alsanea
The connection between dopamine and belief was established by experiments conducted by Peter Brugger and his colleague Christine Mohr at the University of Bristol in England. Exploring the neurochemistry of superstition, magical thinking, and belief in the paranormal, Brugger and Mohr found that people with high levels of dopamine are more likely to find significance in coincidences and pick out meaning and patterns where there are none. In one study, for example, they compared twenty self-professed believers in ghosts, gods, spirits, and conspiracies to twenty self-professed skeptics of such claims. They showed all subjects a series of slides consisting of people's faces, some of which were normal while others had their parts scrambled, such as swapping out eyes or ears or noses from different faces. In another experiment, real and scrambled words were flashed. In general, the scientists found that the believers were much more likely than the skeptics to mistakenly assess a scrambled face as real, and to read a scrambled word as normal.
In the second part of the experiment, Brugger and Mohr gave all forty subjects L-dopa, the drug used for Parkinson's disease patients that increases the levels of dopamine in the brain. They then repeated the slide show with the scrambled or real faces and words. The boost of dopamine caused both believers and skeptics to identify scrambled faces and real and jumbled words as normal. This suggests that patternicity may be associated with ~ Michael Shermer
Different Faces quotes by Michael Shermer
All husbands are alike, but they have different faces so you can tell them apart. ~ Ogden Nash
Different Faces quotes by Ogden Nash
Then I wondered if that's all God ever is
somebody who loves you enough to come back from the dead to visit every now and again. Or if that's all that other people ever are
different faces of God walking around. ~ Sheri Reynolds
Different Faces quotes by Sheri Reynolds
Movie or no, you should never put pictures of the book's characters on the cover. That only cramps the reader's fantasy. You force him to keep seeing the faces of the actors in the movie. For someone who has seen the movie first and then, out of curiosity, goes on to read the whole book, that might not be so bad. But anyone who reads the book first is faced with a dilemma. During the reading he sees the faces of all the characters in his mind's eye. Faces he wants to assemble with his own fantasy. No matter how those faces may be described. Despite your superfluous descriptions of noses, eyes, ears, and hair color, each reader constructs his own faces in his own imagination. Three hundred thousand readers; that's three hundred thousand different faces for each character. Three hundred thousand faces that are destroyed at one fell swoop by that one face in the movie. As a reader, it's pretty tough to remember that imaginary face after seeing the actor on the screen. Two ~ Herman Koch
Different Faces quotes by Herman Koch
Forgetting that beauty and happiness are only ever incarnated in an individual person, we replace them in our minds by a conventional pattern, a sort of average of all the different faces we have ever admired, all the different pleasures we have ever enjoyed, and thus carry about with us abstract images, which are lifeless and uninspiring because they lack the very quality that something new, something different from what is familiar, always possesses, and which is the quality inseparable from real beauty and happiness. So we make our pessimistic pronouncements on life, which we think are valid, in the belief that we have taken account of beauty and happiness, whereas we have actually omitted them from consideration, substituting for them synthetic compounds that contain nothing of them. ~ Marcel Proust
Different Faces quotes by Marcel Proust
They're weak and strong and they make mistakes, like anyone, like he has. And love and care have all kinds of different faces, and within them, there's room for understanding, and for forgiveness, and for more. More and more and more. Sometimes ~ Patrick Ness
Different Faces quotes by Patrick Ness
The lake has all sorts of different faces. And so it's always fresh. ~ Banana Yoshimoto
Different Faces quotes by Banana Yoshimoto
Don't be so hard on yourself, You're doing the same thing, trying to reconcile all the moms that Mom ever was - The one you wanted, the one she was when you needed her and she was there, the one she was when she didn't understand. Most of us don't live our lives with one, integrated self that meets the world, we're a whole bunch of selves. When someone dies, they all integrate into the soul - the essence of who we are, beyond the different faces we wear throughout our lives. You're just hating the selves you've always hated, and loving the ones you've always loved. It's bound to mess you up. ~ Christopher Moore
Different Faces quotes by Christopher Moore
And love and care have all kinds of different faces, and within them, there's room for understanding, and for forgiveness, and for more. ~ Patrick Ness
Different Faces quotes by Patrick Ness
On the surface of Life, you walk, talk, act, play but you live only when truly in contact with your Souls, you live only when truly sad, only when truly happy. Sadness and happiness are different faces of the same coin, different ways of understanding the same truth. The sadness though, also brings the self-destruction, it tortures minds, carrying diseases and sometimes darkness. ~ Natasa Nuit Pantovic
Different Faces quotes by Natasa Nuit Pantovic
Abstract and conceptual painters face different demons than representational painters, but neither group has a monopoly on either authenticity or originality. ~ Steven Whitney
Different Faces quotes by Steven Whitney
We're not going to pierce everything that we have and paint our faces trying to get a different market. We'll grow with our audience. We're just going to keep doing what we do. ~ Chris Kirkpatrick
Different Faces quotes by Chris Kirkpatrick
I had this idea that I wanted to do this mixture of visions of African American women and visions of African American men. And call it 'The Men' and call it 'The Women' and show different faces of these two people. ~ Faith Ringgold
Different Faces quotes by Faith Ringgold
Saints and mystics throughout history have adorned their realisations with different names and given them different faces and interpretations, but what they are all fundamentally experiencing is the essential nature of the mind. ~ Sogyal Rinpoche
Different Faces quotes by Sogyal Rinpoche
Self-revelation is a cruel process. The real picture, the real you never emerges. Looking for it is as bewildering as trying to know how you really look. Ten different mirrors show you ten different faces. ~ Shashi Deshpande
Different Faces quotes by Shashi Deshpande
We attack whatever is different, anything we don't understand, anything that might change our world, our environment, reduce our chances of survival. Racism, class warfare, sexism, east versus west, north and south, capitalism and communism, democracy and dictatorships, Islam and Christianity, Israel and Palestine, they're all different faces of the same war: the war for a homogeneous human race, an end to our differences. ~ A.G. Riddle
Different Faces quotes by A.G. Riddle
Life is like the dice that, falling, still show a different face. So life, though it remains the same, is always presenting different aspects. ~ Alexis Sanchez
Different Faces quotes by Alexis Sanchez
Like actors taking a role in a play. We wear our human faces and harbor our dramas and fantasies, but it's the same individuals playing the parts, as the play starts anew on a different stage, with different faces and forms. If it all goes well, a figure from the crowd joins the stage for the plays that follow, and the roles are refined. ~ Wildbow
Different Faces quotes by Wildbow
I pledge to set out to live a thousand lives between printed pages.
I pledge to use books as doors to other minds, old and young, girl and boy, man and animal.
I pledge to use books to open windows to a thousand different worlds and to the thousand different faces of my own world.
I pledge to use books to make my universe spread much wider than the world I live in every day.
I pledge to treat my books like friends, visiting them all from time to time and keeping them close. ~ Cornelia Funke
Different Faces quotes by Cornelia Funke
What seems fair enough against a squalid huckster of bad liquor may take on a different face, if used by a government determined to suppress political opposition under the guise of sedition. ~ Learned Hand
Different Faces quotes by Learned Hand
Mowbray! Been a while since you bothered with the season. What brings you to town?"
Lord Adrian Montfort, Earl of Mowbray, shifted his gaze from the couples whirling past on the dance floor and to the man who approached: the tall, fair, eminently good-looking Reginald Greville. He and Greville, his cousin, had once been the best of friends. However, time and distance had weakened the bond - with a little help from the war with France, Adrian thought bitterly. Ignoring Reginald's question, he offered a somewhat rusty smile in greeting, then turned his gaze back to the men and women swinging elegantly about the dance floor. He replied instead, "Enjoying the season, Greville?"
"Certainly, certainly. Fresh blood. Fresh faces."
"Fresh victims," Mowbray said dryly, and Reginald laughed. "That too." Reginald was well-known for his success in seducing young innocents. Only his title and money kept him from being forced out of town.
Shaking his head, Adrian gave that rusty smile again. "I wonder you never tire of the chase, Reg. They all look sadly similar to me. I would swear these were the very same young women who were entering their first season the last time I attended…and the time before that, and the time before that." His cousin smiled easily, but shook his head. "It has been ten years since you bothered to come to town, Adrian. Those women are all married and bearing fruit, or well on their way to spinsterhood."
"Different faces, same ladies," Ad ~ Lynsay Sands
Different Faces quotes by Lynsay Sands
There are billions of different faces in the world; but there are only two different characters: Good and bad! And here is a vital mission for the world: To convert the bad into the good! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Different Faces quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
I think I'm a million different faces. ~ Rachael Leigh Cook
Different Faces quotes by Rachael Leigh Cook
I look at what I have as a challenge and I could list a whole bunch of different challenges. And I choose not to be daunted by any of them. ~ Justin Trudeau
Different Faces quotes by Justin Trudeau
The shoot-to-kill order came through at zero one fifteen, relayed over a satellite radio. It'd been just three hours since the two-man reconnaissance team had reported the sighting.
They lay in a shallow dugout on a windblown ridge, the leeward slope falling away steeply to an impassable boulder field. A desert-issue tarp all but covered the hole, protected from view on the flanks by thorny scrub. Shivering, they blew into their bunched trigger-finger mitts. The daytime temperature had dropped twenty degrees or more, and fine sleet was melting on their blackened faces.
Darren Proctor extended the folded stock of his L115A3 sniper rifle. He split the legs of the swivel bi-pod and aligned the swivel cheek piece with the all-weather scope. Flipping open the lens cap, he glassed the terrain cast a muted green by the night vision. The tree line was sparse, a smattering of pines and cedars shuddering in the biting wind. Glimpsing movement on a scree slope fifty metres or so beyond, he focused in. The eyes of a striped hyena shone like glow sticks. He watched as the scavenger ripped at the carcass of an ibex or wild sheep. A second later it sniffed the air, ears pricked, and scampered off. ~ Gary Haynes
Different Faces quotes by Gary Haynes
There is a struggle inside you between these two parts. It's as if at times your heart becomes a battlefield! The secret part, full of light, seems so small and weak in the face of the discouraging and morbid part, which seems enormous and overwhelming. However, if you light a small candle in a dark room, everything is lit up. It is a matter of trusting in this little light in the deepest part of your being which can gradually chase away the darkness. ~ Jean Vanier
Different Faces quotes by Jean Vanier
While people were not genetically different, they were culturally as different as they could possibly be, and that some cultures were simply better than others. ~ Neal Stephenson
Different Faces quotes by Neal Stephenson
Everyone had run to do her bidding. Soon only the three men
the three useless ones
had been left in the sitting room to fight terror and nausea and fits of the vapors.
The door opened. Three pale, terrified faces turned toward it.
-the three manly men waiting during a childbirth ~ Mary Balogh
Different Faces quotes by Mary Balogh
Each job you have has it's own challenges. One of the great things about my job, is that each film is a different journey. ~ Sam Worthington
Different Faces quotes by Sam Worthington
The idea tells you everything. Lots of times I get ideas, I fall in love with them. Those ones you fall in love with are really special ideas. And, in some ways, I always say, when something's abstract, the abstractions are hard to put into words unless you're a poet. These ideas you somehow know. And cinema is a language that can say abstractions. I love stories, but I love stories that hold abstractions--that can hold abstractions. And cinema can say these difficult-to-say-in-words things. A lot of times, I don't know the meaning of the idea, and it drives me crazy. I think we should know the meaning of the idea. I think about them, and I tell this story about my first feature Eraserhead. I did not know what these things meant to me--really meant. And on that particular film, I started reading the Bible. And I'm reading the Bible, going along, and suddenly--there was a sentence. And I said, forget it! That's it. That's this thing. And so, I should know the meaning for me, but when things get abstract, it does me no good to say what it is. All viewers on the surface are all different. And we see something, and that's another place where intuition kicks in: an inner-knowingness. And so, you see a thing, you think about it, and you feel it, and you go and you sort of know something inside. And you can rely on that. Another thing I say is, if you go--after a film, withholding abstractions--to a coffee place--having coffee with your friends, someone will say something, and immed ~ David Lynch
Different Faces quotes by David Lynch
For the most part, I don't think I'm any different than anybody else. ~ Curtis Granderson
Different Faces quotes by Curtis Granderson
No challenge can stop you if you have the courage to keep moving forward in the face of your greatest fears and biggest challenges. Be courageous. ~ Jon Gordon
Different Faces quotes by Jon Gordon
If, on the contrary, they hear from you about themselves, they will be in no position to say, "The Lord is lying." Is hearing the truth about oneself from you anything different from knowing oneself? And can anyone have this self-knowledge and still protest, "It is not true," unless he himself is lying? ~ Augustine Of Hippo
Different Faces quotes by Augustine Of Hippo
I think that usually I'm just drawn to something that's different from something that I've done previously. Whatever makes me feel something. Whatever makes me excited and connected to it. ~ Brie Larson
Different Faces quotes by Brie Larson
Byproduct of the circulation of commodities, human circulation considered as a form of consumption, tourism comes down fundamentally to the freedom to go and see what has become banal. The economic planning of the frequenting of different places is already in itself the guarantee of their equivalence. The same modernization that has withdrawn the element of time from journeying, has also withdrawn the reality of space. ~ Tom McDonough
Different Faces quotes by Tom McDonough
Conspiracy theorists of the world, believers in the hidden hands of the Rothschilds and the Masons and the Illuminati, we skeptics owe you an apology. You were right. The players may be a little different, but your basic premise is correct: The world is a rigged game. ~ Matt Taibbi
Different Faces quotes by Matt Taibbi
In the old tales, when people undertake quests, they find themselves fighting dragons or serpents or giant dogs. Or maybe a dark warrior of some kind, folk who are enemies from the start. But it's far more frightening when someone seems friendly and good, and turns out to be different altogether. The odd and uncanny are not terrifying in themselves. The most disturbing thing is the ordinary turned strange. Things familiar and safe becoming not right. ~ Juliet Marillier
Different Faces quotes by Juliet Marillier
The military is not a social services operation or a testing ground for gender wars. It is a fighting machine. Women are not as strong as men. Their instincts and reactions in crises are markedly different. ~ Liz Trotta
Different Faces quotes by Liz Trotta
Faith is different from proof; the latter is human, the former is a Gift from God. ~ Blaise Pascal
Different Faces quotes by Blaise Pascal
If you expect a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, it's a victory. ~ Ardal O'Hanlon
Different Faces quotes by Ardal O'Hanlon
We seem bent upon saving the Vietnamese from Ho Chi Minh, even if we have to kill them and demolish their country to do it ... I do not intend to remain silent in the face of what I regard as a policy of madness which, sooner or later, will envelop my son and American youth by the millions for years to come. ~ George McGovern
Different Faces quotes by George McGovern
There are no restrictions of taste, approach, or subject matter. The gatekeepers are gone, so the prospect for new and different voices is exciting. Or at least it will be if anyone reads them. And it will be even more exciting if anyone pays for them. It's hard to charge admission without a gate. ~ Bill Watterson
Different Faces quotes by Bill Watterson
You think I'm gorgeous?"
"When I look at you, all I can think about are the the different ways I'd like to fuck you."
"So that's a yes then?" she said shyly.
"No, darlin. It's an I-hope-you-weren't-planning-on-sleeping-alone-tonight. ~ Nenia Campbell
Different Faces quotes by Nenia Campbell
All those different names, dates, deaths, each backed with a past life, were like shrubs in an arboretum, spaced out equidistantly as far as the eye could
see. No gently swaying breezes for them, no fragrances, no touch of a hand reaching through the darkness. They who seemed like trees lost to time. They to whom no thoughts occurred, nor would ever have words to get them across. They'd left all that to those who still had some living to do. ~ Haruki Murakami
Different Faces quotes by Haruki Murakami
People like you and me are quite lonely really but we still have each other, we have the secret satisfaction of being different, of rebelling, of desiring the unusual. ~ Hermann Hesse
Different Faces quotes by Hermann Hesse
SSDD Same Shit Different Day ~ Stephen King
Different Faces quotes by Stephen King
Living is about capturing the essence of things. I go through my life every day with a vial, a vial wherein can be found precious essential oils of every kind! The priceless, fragrant oils that are the essence of my experiences, my thoughts. I walk inside a different realm from everybody else, in that I am existing in the essence of things; every time there is reason to smile, I hold out my glass vial and capture that drop of oil, that essence, and then I smile. And that is why I have smiled, and so you and I may be smiling at the same time but I am smiling because of that one drop of cherished, treasured oil that I have extracted. When I write, I find no need to memorize an idea, a plot, a sequence of things: no. I must only capture the essence of a feeling or a thought and once I have inhaled that aroma, I know that I have what I need. ~ C. JoyBell C.
Different Faces quotes by C. JoyBell C.
I had nothing to contribute. I played no part. I was on the edge.
Different.
Alone.
Everything around me, grey.
It was the same old feeling, back again.
I was in the middle of the group but I might as well have been a million miles away from these people. ~ Tim Relf
Different Faces quotes by Tim Relf
This constitution we designate by the word genotype. The word is entirely independent of any hypothesis; it is fact, not hypothesis that different zygotes arising by fertilisation can thereby have different qualities, that, even under quite similar conditions of life, phenotypically diverse individuals can develop. ~ Wilhelm Johannsen
Different Faces quotes by Wilhelm Johannsen
Why would she want to come back here and live?' I wondered. 'Doesn't seem like she'd want to.'
'Why do you say that?'
'She seems different, that's all.'
'I don't know,' Bud said. 'You might be confusing different with dissatisfied. ~ Tawni O'Dell
Different Faces quotes by Tawni O'Dell
Snowflakes fascinate me ... Millions of them falling gently to the ground ... And they say that no two of them are alike! Each one completely different from all the others ... The last of the rugged individualists! ~ Charles M. Schulz
Different Faces quotes by Charles M. Schulz
Observe that for the novelist who has remained Christian, like myself, man is someone creating himself or destroying himself. He is not an immobile being, fixed, cast in a mold once and for all. This is what makes the traditional psychological novel so different from what I did or thought I was doing. The human being as I conceive him in the novel is a being caught up in the drama of human salvation, even if he doesn't know it. ~ Francois Mauriac
Different Faces quotes by Francois Mauriac
How many people actually read the Bible and follow it? The truth is right there. How many people know what a marriage or family is all about? Everything starts with an idea, but getting people to act is different. You can't do something well if you don't know what it is or tried it for awhile. ~ Phil Mitchell
Different Faces quotes by Phil Mitchell
I come from a visual background, and I grew up around a lot of hippies and artists. My mom and my brother and I moved around a lot. We basically moved every couple of years, and I went to a lot of different schools. But creativity, for us, was always a way of life. It was never a job. Being an artist was a passion and a way of life. ~ Jared Leto
Different Faces quotes by Jared Leto
This much I have learned: human beings come with very different sets of wiring, different interests, different temperaments, different learning styles, different gifts, different temptations. These differences are tremendously important in the spiritual formation of human beings. ~ John Ortberg
Different Faces quotes by John Ortberg
The thesis that the living creatures have always been composed different species was established in a time where no sufficient observations had been made and when science hardly existed. This thesis is denied every day by those who have made accurate observations, who have long time observed nature and who have had the benefit from studying our musei's large and rich collections. ~ Jean-Baptiste Lamarck
Different Faces quotes by Jean-Baptiste Lamarck
I've seen a lot of my friends go through different reality shows, and they just get caught up in a lot of stagnant positions, unfortunately. ~ Will Champlin
Different Faces quotes by Will Champlin
There is no such thing as freedom on earth," he said. "Only different kinds of bondages. And comparative bondages. YOU think you are free now because you've escaped from a peculiarly unbreakable kind of bondage. But are you? You love me - THAT'S a bondage. ~ L.M. Montgomery
Different Faces quotes by L.M. Montgomery
What I love the most about modeling is that it opens you a lot of different doors of opportunities and takes you to many different places, which then put you in touch with various people and cultures. ~ Karolina Kurkova
Different Faces quotes by Karolina Kurkova
Each neighborhood of the city appeared to be made of a different substance, each seemed to have a different air pressure, a different psychic weight: the bright lights and shuttered shops, the housing projects and luxury hotels, the fire escapes and city parks. ~ Teju Cole
Different Faces quotes by Teju Cole
I heard there was a riot.'

'There was a demonstration, which I think is different. It was peaceful until it was interrupted.'

Mason seemed to be thinking hard about it.

'What sort of demonstration?'

'Hmm... A new kind. It looked poetical at first but then became rather poletical. ~ Jean-Christophe Valtat
Different Faces quotes by Jean-Christophe Valtat
I'm here. Soon I won't be. Zoey's baby is here. Its pulse tick-ticking. Soon it won't be. And when Zoey comes out of that room, having signed on the dotted line, she'll be different. She'll understand what I already know- that death surrounds us all.
And it tastes like metal between you teeth. ~ Jenny Downham
Different Faces quotes by Jenny Downham
I became friends on a social basis with a music professor (Dr. Alan Stein) who took a real interest in my work.He encouraged me in countless different ways, urged me to try different arranging styles, etc. ~ John Keltonic
Different Faces quotes by John Keltonic
Life is like a recycling center, where all the concerns and dramas of humankind get recycled back and forth across the universe. But what you have to offer is your own sensibility, maybe your own sense of humor or insider pathos or meaning. All of us can sing the same song, and there will still be four billion different renditions. ~ Anne Lamott
Different Faces quotes by Anne Lamott
I do not regard the procuring of peace as a matter in which we should play the role of arbiter between different opinions ... more that of an honest broker who really wants to press the business forward. ~ Otto Von Bismarck
Different Faces quotes by Otto Von Bismarck
In the early '90s, it felt like there was space - there was like an empty feel. There was nobody really doing this. Maybe the Pixies were, a little bit. Their lyrics were also disjointed, more psychosexual or something. That's part of youth, too, maybe, that you just feel like you're doing something different. ~ Stephen Malkmus
