Teach a child to love his world deeply so that he may find the beauty and joy of life. ~ Debasish Mridha
Teach A Child quotes by Debasish Mridha
First you have to teach a child to talk, then you have to teach it to be quiet. ~ Jurgen Prochnow
Teach A Child quotes by Jurgen Prochnow
You cannot teach a child any more than you can grow a plant. All you can do is on the negative side - you can only help. It is a manifestation from within; it develops its own nature - you can only take away obstructions. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Teach A Child quotes by Swami Vivekananda
If you're going to teach a child, teach him properly. ~ Stanley Williams
Teach A Child quotes by Stanley Williams
An I Q cannot measure artistic ability. A potential Picasso may be a flop at objective vocabulary or number tests. An I Q does not measure a capacity for love ... How do we teach a child - our own, or those in a classroom to have compassion: to allow people to be different; to understand that like is not equal; to experiment; to laugh: to love. ~ Madeleine L'Engle
Teach A Child quotes by Madeleine L'Engle
You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test. ~ George W. Bush
Teach A Child quotes by George W. Bush
But what good is it to teach a child to count, if you don't show him that he counts for something? ~ Chris Cleave
Teach A Child quotes by Chris Cleave
One of the hardest things to teach a child is that the truth is more important than the consequences. ~ Orlando Aloysius Battista
Teach A Child quotes by Orlando Aloysius Battista
When we teach a child to sing or play the flute, we teach her how to listen. When we teach her to draw, we teach her to see. When we teach a child to dance, we teach him about his body and about space, and when he acts on a stage, he learns about character and motivation. When we teach a child design, we reveal the geometry of the world. When we teach children about the folk and traditional arts and the great masterpieces of the world, we teach them to celebrate their roots and find their own place in history. ~ Jane Alexander
Teach A Child quotes by Jane Alexander
Bilingual-education advocates say it's important to teach a child in his or her family's language. I say you can't use family language in the classroom - the very nature of the classroom requires that you use language publicly. ~ Richard Rodriguez
Teach A Child quotes by Richard Rodriguez
It's not easy to teach a child how to win. ~ Dikembe Mutombo
Teach A Child quotes by Dikembe Mutombo
The way you teach a child to eat well is through example, enthusiasm, and patient exposure to good food. And when that fails, you lie. ~ Bee Wilson
Teach A Child quotes by Bee Wilson
Teach a child to play solitaire, and she'll be able to entertain herself when there's no one around. Teach her tennis, and she'll know what to do when she's on a court. But raise her to feel comfortable in nature, and the whole planet is her home. ~ Joyce Maynard
Teach A Child quotes by Joyce Maynard
The only way we can ever teach a child to say "I'm sorry" is for him to hear it from our lips first. ~ Kevin Leman
Teach A Child quotes by Kevin Leman
To teach a child an instrument without first giving him preparatory training and without developing singing, reading and dictating to the highest level along with the playing is to build upon sand. ~ Zoltan Kodaly
Teach A Child quotes by Zoltan Kodaly
Teachers, you don't teach a subject, you teach a child. ~ Deepa Bhushan
Teach A Child quotes by Deepa Bhushan
Every time we teach a child something, we keep him from inventing it himself. On the other hand, that which we allow him to discover for himself will remain with him visible for the rest of his life. ~ Jean Piaget
Teach A Child quotes by Jean Piaget
Teach a child stress management and how to deal with his anger from very young and you will have one very successful child. ~ Timothy Pina
Teach A Child quotes by Timothy Pina
You can teach a child the importance of pain by your behavior. You can also teach as child the importance of no pain by your behavior. ~ Milton H. Erickson
Teach A Child quotes by Milton H. Erickson
He thought of all the living species that train their young in the art of survival, the cats who teach their kittens to hunt, the birds who spend such strident effort on teaching their fledglings to fly – yet man, whose tool of survival is the mind, does not merely fail to teach a child to think, but devotes the child's education to the purpose of destroying his brain, of convincing him that thought is futile and evil, before he has started to think.

From the first catch-phrases flung at a child to the last, it is like a series of shocks to freeze his motor, to undercut the power of his consciousness. "Don't ask so many questions, children should be seen and not heard!" – "Who are you to think? It's so, because I say so!" – "Don't argue, obey!" – "Don't try to understand, believe!" – "Don't struggle, compromise!" – "Your heart is more important than your mind!" – "Who are you to know? Your parents know best!" – "Who are you to know? The bureaucrats know best!" – "Who are you to object? All values are relative!" – "Who are you to want to escape a thug's bullet? That's only a personal prejudice!"

Men would shudder, he thought, if they saw a mother bird plucking the feathers from the wings of her young, then pushing him out of the nest to struggle for survival – yet that was what they did to their children. ~ Ayn Rand
Teach A Child quotes by Ayn Rand
Teach a child to read and he/she will pass a literary test. ~ George W. Bush
Teach A Child quotes by George W. Bush
If you teach a child to pass a test, he will learn for a day. If you teach a child to understand how he learns, he will learn for a lifetime." -- Kelly Flynn ~ Kelly Flynn
Teach A Child quotes by Kelly Flynn
You cannot teach a child to take care of himself unless you will let him try to take care of himself. He will make mistakes and out of these mistakes will come his wisdom. ~ Francis Bacon
Teach A Child quotes by Francis Bacon
Hitting is never the best way to teach a child. Even in the case of real danger - as when a child runs out into the road - you can grab him, sit him down, look him in the eyes, and tell him why he must never do that again. The panic in your voice will communicate your message much more effectively than any spanking. You can be dramatic without being abusive. ~ Peggy O'Mara
Teach A Child quotes by Peggy O'Mara
Children are people, and they should have to reach to learn about things, to understand things, just as adults have to reach if they want to grow in mental stature. Life is composed of lights and shadows, and we would be untruthful, insincere, and saccharine if we tried to pretend there were no shadows. Most things are good, and they are the strongest things; but there are evil things too, and you are not doing a child a favor by trying to shield him from reality. The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil. ~ Walt Disney Company
Teach A Child quotes by Walt Disney Company
He who knows how to teach a child is not competent for the oversight of a child's education unless he also knows how to train a child. ~ Henry Clay Trumbull
Teach A Child quotes by Henry Clay Trumbull
There are only three ways to teach a child. The first is by example, the second is by example, the third is by example. ~ Albert Schweitzer
Teach A Child quotes by Albert Schweitzer
When we teach a child patience we offer them the gift of a dignified life. ~ Allan Lokos
Teach A Child quotes by Allan Lokos
Get a child interested in learning a skill while young and they will remember forever. ~ Sybrina Durant
Teach A Child quotes by Sybrina Durant
If you can teach a child, then her family and her future is taken care of. ~ Sunil Mittal
Teach A Child quotes by Sunil Mittal
Although parents and teachers are forever telling children to "grow up," maturation cannot be commanded. One cannot teach a child to be an individual or train a child to be his own person. This is the work of maturation and maturation alone. We can nurture the process, provide the right conditions, remove the impediments, but we can no more make a child grow up than we can order the plants in our garden to grow.

Dealing with immature children, we may need to show them how to act, draw the boundaries of what is acceptable, and articulate what our expectations are. Children who do not understand fairness have to be taught to take turns. Children not yet mature enough to appreciate the impact of their actions must be provided with rules and prescriptions for acceptable conduct. But such scripted behavior mustn't be confused with the real thing.

One cannot be any more mature than one truly is, only act that way when appropriately cued. To take turns because it is right to do so is certainly civil, but to take turns out of a genuine sense of fairness can only come from maturity. To say sorry may be appropriate to the situation, but to assume responsibility for one's actions can come only from the process of individuation. There is no substitute for genuine maturation, no shortcut to getting there. Behavior can be prescribed or imposed, but maturity comes from the heart and mind. The real challenge for parents is to help kids grow up, not simply to look like ~ Gabor Mate
Teach A Child quotes by Gabor Mate
Teach a child what is wise, that is morality. Teach him what is wise and beautiful, that is religion! ~ Thomas Huxley
Teach A Child quotes by Thomas Huxley
What you teach a child today can have life-long results. If you love, encourage, and treat a child with respect and dignity, that child will grow and flourish. But, if you ridicule a child for any reason, you strip him or her of self-worth that may never be recovered. ~ Brenda Hill
Teach A Child quotes by Brenda Hill
[French] Parents see it as their job to bring the child around to appreciating this [food]. They believe that just as they must teach a child how to sleep, how to wait, and how to say bonjour, they must teach her how to eat. ~ Pamela Druckerman
Teach A Child quotes by Pamela Druckerman
Teach a child good manners during babyhood. ~ Nachman Of Breslov
Teach A Child quotes by Nachman Of Breslov
The only way to build a church, if you have a Bible church, is to preach out of the Bible, teach out of the Bible, read out of the Bible. ~ Lester Roloff
Teach A Child quotes by Lester Roloff
It would be something fine if we could learn how to bless the lives of children. They are the people of new life. Children are the only people nobody can blame. They are the only ones always willing to make a start; they have no choice. Children are the ways the world begin again and again.
"But in general, our children have no voice
that we will listen to. We force, we blank them into the bugle/bell regulated lineup of the Army/school, and we insist on silence.
"But even if we cannot learn to bless their lives (our future times), at least we can try to find out how we already curse and burden their experience: how we limit the wheeling of their inner eyes, how we terrify their trust, and how we condemn the raucous laughter of their natural love. What's more, if we will hear them, they will teach us what they need; they will bluntly formulate the tenderness of their deserving. ~ June Jordan
Teach A Child quotes by June Jordan
A small child being dragged to bed peered curiously at me as it passed, then waved. We waved back, not being entirely sure how else to respond to small creatures like that. ~ Kate Griffin
Teach A Child quotes by Kate Griffin
We learned that a former prisoner of war had more to teach us about what it takes to find a path to greatness than most books on corporate strategy. ~ James C. Collins
Teach A Child quotes by James C. Collins
I was called 'Dumbo,' like the elephant, as a child because I couldn't understand things at school. ~ Anthony Hopkins
Teach A Child quotes by Anthony Hopkins
Those activities of an earlier day, furthermore, provided opportunities for cooperative action toward a common goal and for a sense of accomplishment that was not readily available to a modern technological society. For the 'city-bred child of today' (p. 21), such opportunities were no longer present, and the educational problem then became one of recreating in the school something of the occupations that in former times not only provided a sense of real purpose, but linked intelligence and cooperative action to what the work of the world required. ~ Herbert M. Kliebard
Teach A Child quotes by Herbert M. Kliebard
And what could be more frightening than a child with total power? A spear and sword are terrible, God knows. That is why the knight who carries them is first taught pity, justice, mercy, and only last
force. ~ John Steinbeck
Teach A Child quotes by John Steinbeck
Eve doubted God, and I as a child of God am now to be exactly the opposite: I am to believe him. Eve doubted, and mankind in revolt doubts God. To believe him, not just when I accept Christ as Savior, but every moment, one moment at a time: this is the Christian life, and this is true spirituality. ~ Francis Schaeffer
Teach A Child quotes by Francis Schaeffer
Keeping a child from harm is not the same as rearing one. ~ Robin Hobb
Teach A Child quotes by Robin Hobb
At the dawn of my days, when still a little child, I had an older brother who died in his youth, before my eyes, being only seventeen years old. And later, making my way through life, I gradually came to see that this brother was, as it were, a pointer and a destination from above in my fate, for if he had not appeared in my life, if he had not been at all, then never, perhaps, as I think, would I have entered monastic orders and set out upon this precious path. That first appearance was still in my childhood, and now, on the decline of my path, a repetition of him, as it were, appeared before my eyes. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Teach A Child quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
I need a stimulating environment to write because my books are driven at 100 miles per hour at a time. ~ Lee Child
Teach A Child quotes by Lee Child
The pressure of public opinion can do in the town what the law cannot accomplish. There is no lane so vile that the scream of a tortured child, or the thud of a drunkard's blow, does not beget sympathy and indignation among the neighbours, and then the whole machinery of justice is ever so close that a word of complaint can set it going, and there is but a step between the crime and the dock. But look at these lonely houses, each in its own fields, filled for the most part with poor ignorant folk who know little of the law. Think of the deeds of hellish cruelty, the hidden wickedness which may go on, year in, year out, in such places, and none the wiser. ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Teach A Child quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
We teach boys to be such men as we are. We do not teach them to aspire to be all they can. We do not give them a training as if webelieved in their noble nature. We scarce educate their bodies. We do not train the eye and the hand. We exercise their understandings to the apprehension and comparison of some facts, to a skill in numbers, in words; we aim to make accountants, attorneys, engineers; but not to make able, earnest, great- hearted men. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Teach A Child quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
In my experience, the romance novels written about BDSM have about as much in common with actual BDSM relationships as a child playing with a jump rope. ~ Nenia Campbell
Teach A Child quotes by Nenia Campbell
It's one of the greatest mistakes of cultivated people to take it as given that because they have sophisticated minds they also have sophisticated emotions. But what kind of soul feels sophisticated hatred or sophisticated grief, for, say, a murdered child? Is the broken heart of the educated and refined person different from that of the savage? Why not say that the enlightened and knowledgeable feel the pain of childbirth, or the kidney stone, in a different way to unpolished commoner or chav? Intelligence has many shades, but rage is the same color everywhere. Humiliation tastes the same to everyone. ~ Paul Hoffman
Teach A Child quotes by Paul Hoffman
Sometimes I would like to be a child again, and other times a woman made of snow. ~ Deirdre Sullivan
Teach A Child quotes by Deirdre Sullivan
You can teach a bear to tango on a barrel but his enthusiasm and performance are limited and brief. ~ Lionel Tiger
Teach A Child quotes by Lionel Tiger
I could have gone the route of a lot of these former child actors, but I didn't want that for myself. Like I said, when I was 14 years old, I decided to quit. I didn't ever want to do it again. ~ Macaulay Culkin
Teach A Child quotes by Macaulay Culkin
A father knows his child's heart, as only a child can know his fathers. ~ Kazuo Koike
Teach A Child quotes by Kazuo Koike
The child who gets lost in a book can emerge from the experience a changeling. ~ Maureen Corrigan
Teach A Child quotes by Maureen Corrigan
For the first time in human history, most people are doing things that could never interest a child enough to want to tag along. That says less about the child than about us. ~ Anthony Esolen
Teach A Child quotes by Anthony Esolen
The educational system should be a sieve, through which all the children of a country are passed. It is highly desirable that no child escape inspection. ~ Paul Popenoe
Teach A Child quotes by Paul Popenoe
imagine that
it were given back to me to be
the child who knew departure would be sweet,
the boy who drew square-rigged ships, the girl who knew
truck routes from ottawa to mexico,
the me who found a door in latin verse
and made a map out of hexameters. ~ Marilyn Hacker
Teach A Child quotes by Marilyn Hacker
Women who are with child should be careful of themselves; they should take exercise and have a nourishing diet. The first of these prescriptions the legislator will easily carry into effect by requiring that they should take a walk daily to some temple, where they can worship the gods who preside over birth. Their minds, however, unlike their bodies, they ought to keep quiet, for the offspring derive their natures from their mothers as plants do from earth. ~ Aristotle.
Teach A Child quotes by Aristotle.
you're my first born child, and the person who first showed me the miracle of this love a mother has for her child. ~ Elizabeth Noble
Teach A Child quotes by Elizabeth Noble
I do not tell you often enough, dear Mother, how very grateful I am that I am yours. It is a rare parent
who would offer a child such latitude and understanding. It is an even rarer one who calls a daughter
friend. I do love you, dear Mama. ~ Julia Quinn
Teach A Child quotes by Julia Quinn
Should I get wind of another such rumor, I shall ruthlessly proceed against the person in question - not in a court of law, that is not my way. But I shall dedicate my next book to him ! : the economic and social consequences will teach him a lesson for the rest of his life ! ~ Arno Schmidt
Teach A Child quotes by Arno Schmidt
Men and women have defined roles, and it's the responsibility of a parent to make sure they know which way to go; otherwise, a child would feed themselves with their feet without the correct guidance. ~ Monica Johnson
Teach A Child quotes by Monica Johnson
Of the people who cook on television, I have admired people like Jacques Pepin, Julia Child, Mario Batali, Jamie Oliver and a few others because they are free of drama, display good taste and masterful technique, and use clear exposition to bring you up to speed. ~ Steve Albini
Teach A Child quotes by Steve Albini
With learning lines, before I had Alfie, I'd put it off and think, 'Oh, I'll just have a glass of wine and then do it later,' but when you've finally got a child to bed and you know you've only got an hour, then you achieve so much. ~ Lesley Manville
Teach A Child quotes by Lesley Manville
When I was a child growing up in Maine, one of my favorite things to do was to look for sand dollars on the seashores of Maine, because my parents told me it would bring me luck. But you know, these shells, they're hard to find. They're covered in sand. They're difficult to see. ~ Sarah Parcak
Teach A Child quotes by Sarah Parcak
If I am a parent, what is my relationship with my child? First of all, have I any relationship at all? The child happens to be my son or my daughter, but is there actually any relationship, any contact, companionship, communion between myself and my child, or am I too busy earning money, or whatever it is, and therefore pack him off to school? So I really have no contact or communion at all with the boy or the girl, have I? If I am a busy parent, as parents generally are, and I merely want my son to be something, a lawyer, a doctor, or an engineer, have I any relationship with him even though I have produced him?

Do parents ever ask themselves why they have children? Do they have children to perpetuate their name, to carry on their property? Do they want children merely for the sake of their own delight, to satisfy their own emotional needs? If so, then the children become a mere projection of the desires and fears of their parents. ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
Teach A Child quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti
The worst thing one can do for a hyperactive child is to put him or her in front of a television set. Television activates the child at the same time that it cuts the child (or adult) off from real sensory stimulation and the opportunity for resolution. ~ Jerry Mander
Teach A Child quotes by Jerry Mander
When she was a child her mother had once told her shyness was almost a form of selfishness. You see, when you hang your head like that, darling, people think you don't like them! ~ Liane Moriarty
Teach A Child quotes by Liane Moriarty
He knew exactly what it was like to lose a child. And that fact wouldn't matter in the least in this circumstance. There could be no commiseration among such people despite the seeming commonality of loss, because it was actually each parent's totally unique hell. ~ David Baldacci
Teach A Child quotes by David Baldacci
We need fathers to step up, to realize that their job does not end at conception; that what makes you a man is not the ability to have a child but the courage to raise one. ~ Barack Obama
Teach A Child quotes by Barack Obama
Zen is a kind of unlearning. It teaches you how to drop that which you have learned, how to become unskillful again, how to become a child again, how to start existing without mind again, how to be here without any mind. ~ Rajneesh
Teach A Child quotes by Rajneesh
Ordinary" has to be one of the loneliest words in our vocabulary today. Who wants a bumper sticker that announces to the neighborhood, "My child is an ordinary student at Bubbling Brook Elementary"? Who wants to be that ordinary person who lives in an ordinary town, is a member of an ordinary church, and has ordinary friends and works an ordinary job? Our life has to count! We have to leave our mark, have a legacy, and make a difference. And all of this should be something that can be managed, measured, and maintained. We have to live up to our Facebook profile. It's one of the newer versions of salvation by works. ~ Michael S. Horton
Teach A Child quotes by Michael S. Horton
The consolation of fairy-stories, the joy of the happy ending: or more correctly of the good catastrophe, the sudden joyous "turn" (for there is no true end to any fairy-tale): this joy, which is one of the things which fairy-stories can produce supremely well, is not essentially "escapist," nor "fugitive." In its fairy-tale--or otherworld--setting, it is a sudden and miraculous grace: never to be counted on to recur. It does not deny the existence of dyscatastrophe, of sorrow and failure: the possibility of these is necessary to the joy of deliverance; it denies (in the face of much evidence, if you will) universal final defeat and in so far is evangelium, giving a fleeting glimpse of Joy, Joy beyond the walls of the world, poignant as grief.

It is the mark of a good fairy-story, of the higher or more complete kind, that however wild its events, however fantastic or terrible the adventures, it can give to child or man that hears it, when the "turn" comes, a catch of the breath, a beat and lifting of the heart, near to (or indeed accompanied by) tears, as keen as that given by any form of literary art, and having a peculiar quality ... In such stories when the sudden "turn" comes we get a piercing glimpse of joy, and heart's desire, that for a moment passes outside the frame, rends indeed the very web of story, and lets a gleam come through. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Teach A Child quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
People say child stars have a hard time 'because of the entertainment business,' but I think there's a dysfunction before all that. I use the analogy, 'If you're a fool without money, you'll be a fool with money.' ~ Tia Mowry
Teach A Child quotes by Tia Mowry
It took me 40 years to write my first book. When I was a child, I was encouraged to go to school. I was not encouraged to follow the career of a writer because my parents thought that I was going to starve to death. ~ Paulo Coelho
Teach A Child quotes by Paulo Coelho
A period of about twelve years measured the beat of the pendulum. After the Declaration of Independence, twelve years had been needed to create an efficient Constitution; another twelve years of energy brought a reaction against the government then created; a third period of twelve years was ending in a sweep toward still greater energy; and already a child could calculate the result of a few more such returns. ~ Henry Adams
