Heaven is a dream of Disneyland for those unable to act here on Earth. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
he asks me, as if Ruth's become invisible. That's fucked up but that's what happens to women. We grow up into ghosts. No one wants to screw Ruth anymore so she's invisible. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Some people enjoy humiliation. Maybe I used to be one of those people, but I don't feel humiliation anymore. The body sloughs off cells every day, aging. After all that, what is left to feel humiliated? Very little indeed. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
I'll just tell you what I remember because memory is as close as I've gotten to building my own time machine. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Art isn't a hawk making lazy circles in the sky. Beauty doesn't equal art, and it can't just be the world in a package. It's got to take the world and mess it up some. Add the artifice as a lens, right? ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
It's where a thing can't be beautiful or perfect without an imperfection. Say, ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
We were tired of living in a house. ~ Samantha Hunt

Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
He gave me an inside of ice so I'd never love you. But it didn't work. You are so close. You are the only warm thing to me. So warm, I am melting. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
I'm the story of Sheresa. I write a little bit of the fiction of me every day. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
A man who has to forge his own tools, his own language, is a man who is going somewhere. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
The Father wears natural-fiber clothing that he scrubs and starches before re-ruffling in an approximation of ancient Jerusalem chic. Every morning the Father braids his long hair, smoothing the split ends with beeswax. He coats his skin with a homebrewed sunscreen. He takes a spoonful of ground flaxseed and a spoonful of turmeric powder in his nightly goat's milk. He self-administers a coffee colonic on the fifteenth of each month. On the sixteenth, he reports any visions experienced during the purge. And every now and then, he loses control, drinking nothing but Canadian whiskey for three days. The ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Oh, I'm real. I'm the story of Sheresa. I write a little bit of the fiction of me every day. You see what I'm talking about? Then once you have the boundaries of history and fiction secure, where does everything else fall? Somewhere in between the two. History holds up one side of our lives and fiction the other. Mother, father. Birth, death, and in between, that's where you find religion. That's where you find art, science, engineering. It's where things get made from belief and memory. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
It seems the loneliest place in the world for something so lovely. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Religions need women. Who else would do all the work? ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Because every story is a ghost story, even mine. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
For her, Mr. Splitfoot is a two that is sometimes a one, mothers and their children, Nat and Ruth, life and death. "Are ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
I am excited by Samantha Hunt. She's a writer I really admire a lot. ~ Rick Moody
Samantha Hunt quotes by Rick Moody
I glimpsed a huge beyond when I became a mother, the enormity of an abyss or the opposite of an abyss, the idea of complete fullness, the anti-death, tiny gods everywhere. But now all the world wants to hear of me is how I juggle children and career, how I manage to get the kids to eat their veggies, how I lost the weight. I will never lose this weight. When one encounters a mother doing too many things perfectly, smiling as if it is all so easy, so natural, we should feel a civic responsibility to slap her hard across the face, to scream the word Stop! Stop! So many times the woman begins to chant or whimper the word along with us. Once she has been broken, take her in your arms until the trembling and self-hatred leave her body. It is our duty. I used to think it was motherhood that loosens a woman's grasp on sanity. Now I see it is the surplus and affluence of America. Plus something else, something toxic, leaking poison, fear. Something we can't yet see. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Humans are so good at imagining things, they invent gods who feel so real, they then betray us by not existing. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
People can make beautiful mistakes, dear, and each one is an arrow, a brilliant arrow, pointing out the right way to there. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Unlock the door?' he asks.

This family is an experiment, the biggest I've ever been part of, an experiment called: How do you let someone in?

'Unlock the door,' he says again. 'Please.'

I release the lock. I open the door. That's the best definition of love. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
I don't think you'll believe what I found," he says. "A word, razbliuto. We don't have a word to match it but we should. We should develop it tonight because the word means, 'the feelings one retains for someone he once loved.' "Hate?" Jude says.
"No, not that feeling," my grandfather answers and looks and Jude with disappointment.
"Betrayal," my mother says without looking away from her book.
"No," my grandfather says. "It's the little house loved moved out of, maybe a hermit crab moves in and carries the house across the floor of a tidal pool. the lover see the old love moving and it looks like it's alive again."
They are all wrong. There's a reason why we have no word for it. You don't get to keep the feelings for someone you once loved. Once you've washed your hands of that person, all those feelings, all that dirty water is washed out to sea. There is no word for that dirty water. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Why do the living assume the dead know better than we do? Like they gained some knowledge by dying, but why wouldn't they just be the same confused people they were before they died? ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Millions of stars overhead make the violence of the Big Bang clear. So much force that matter is still sprinting away from the center. I ~ Samantha Hunt

Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
as if being born a girl makes her responsible for everyone alive. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
There isn't any point to it. I'm not getting anywhere. No start, middle, or end. The children scream and I scream, and the noise we make goes out and down and round and round and round. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Wait," I say. "I think you're mistaken. Saying there is no dream is the same as saying everything is a dream. Isn't it? Everyone's a dreamer? Extraordinary things happen all the time even when we're awake. What I meant to suggest to you, if indeed that was me in your dream doing the suggesting, is that there is only one world. This one. The dream is real. The ordinary is the wonderful. The wonderful is the ordinary. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
You don't get to keep the feelings for someone you once loved. Once you've washed your hands of that person, all those feelings, all that dirty water is washed out to sea. ~ Samantha Hunt

Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt

Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
I am not from Venus. . . . I am from a small town on the Serbo-Croation border. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
These woods are where silence has come to lick its wounds. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
When Scout finds Boo Radley hiding behind her bedroom door, she says something that is scary because it is calm. Something like, "Why, there's the man right there, Mr. Tate." Or whatever his name is. Scout's not surprised to find a hollow-eyed monster in the form of Robert Duvall behind her door. She opens a line into magic, possibility. Or mystery, that's a better word than magic. Like an open hole in the ground no one noticed until Scout pointed it out, a place where men with dark secrets live behind every bedroom door. Scout's calm voice says, "The rest of you are blind. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
I would think a person who doesn't know what's she's running from can't really be on the run, but that's not true. Here ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
The color blue fills the entire mirror and, watching it, I think that is how a small northern town in America works. It enlists one beautiful thing like the ocean or the mountains or the snow to keep people stuck and stagnant and staring out to sea forever. ~ Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Hunt
Fretting over how life ends, or anything else for that matter, is a complete waste of time. ~ Samantha Sotto
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Sotto
There are those who exist in darkness... vampires those beasts in human form who drink the blood from living humans... and... vampire hunters... those who are fated to hunt vampires. ~ Matsuri Hino Vampire Knight Vol. 2
Samantha Hunt quotes by Matsuri Hino Vampire Knight Vol. 2
Your answer is yes, you would. You're afraid to say it out loud because you know, once you do, it makes it real - this thing between us - and then you won't be able to stop it from happening. What, deep down inside, you know is inevitable. ~ Samantha Towle
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Towle
Are you using 'he' generically, or because it seems probable that a man did this?"

Hunt shrugs, indifferent to pronouns. Men can afford to be. ~ Laura Lippman
Samantha Hunt quotes by Laura Lippman
Things you don't need in your life targets you the most. ~ Michael Bassey Johnson

Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Norman
Maybe one day music will just be music, and there won't be these categories; it'll just be different shades of music. ~ Sam Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Sam Hunt
You know, for someone so alpha you really are a gossip queen. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
He tastes and feels even better than I ever dreamed he would. It's like waiting years and years for the present you have always wanted, longed for, then unwrapping it and finding it's so much more than you ever imagined it could be. ~ Samantha Towle
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Towle
Funny story: I was hanging out with Adam Shankman for Samantha Ronson's birthday, and Lance Bass was there. I don't really know Lance, but he comes over to me and goes, 'Hey, I just wanted to let you know I'm a fan of 'Pretty Little Liars' and I'm rooting for your character.' It was surreal! That's how 'PLL' has changed my life. ~ Ryan Guzman
Samantha Hunt quotes by Ryan Guzman
One never stops climbing, Julie, unless he wants to stop and vegetate. There's always something just ahead. ~ Irene Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Irene Hunt
Was I shy? No. Not shy. Just, usually blissfully indifferent. I liked it that way. It was safer. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
I know what I want to achieve in each book and the major points, but I don't plan right down to the chapters. I think that the characters write themselves in some degree. ~ Samantha Shannon
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Shannon
You're the one real thing in my life right now ... You should know I don't want to let that go. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
I said you weren't inconsequential. No one is. We change at least one person's life just by being born. If you don't believe me, go ask your mother. The fellows who write history books may not think that's so special. I happen to disagree. Isabelle and her family may be long gone, but because they lived, regardless of how small their lives may have been, I believe they are worth remembering, even if only by strangers.
- BEFORE EVER AFTER ~ Samantha Sotto
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Sotto
Believing anything in life is fated is just a way to avoid taking responsibility. ~ Margot Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Margot Hunt
Clear vision holds the key. ~ M.J. Colewood
Samantha Hunt quotes by M.J. Colewood
But you can't rescue people; you can only help them rescue themselves. ~ Samantha Ellis
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Ellis
By seeing ourselves honestly, we have the capacity to understand others more deeply. ~ Helen LaKelly Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Helen LaKelly Hunt
Craig." I tried to plead as lust and desire fogged my brain. "Please, just leave me alone."
"But I can't seem to help myself," he murmured seconds before his lips brushed gently over mine. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
Really? A dog? Not a noble wolf?"
"No. A dog. Very cuddly, one that likes to be petted."
"Well, that is true." Boris took Hans's hand and brought it down to cup his hard shaft. "I would much rather be petted by you and Thomas than hunt caribou in Siberia. So… the Russian for 'dog' is sabakah."
"Sabakah," Hans repeated.
"But for a pet name, maybe sabakee is better. That means 'doggy.'" Boris grinned at him. With his hair messed up, as usual, and when he was being goofy, he did remind Hans of a 'doggy.'
"That's perfect, sabakee." Hans laughed.
"Puppy," Boris purred.
Then their mouths merged, and Boris found Hans's stiff cock. For a long time, they panted heavily into each other's mouths as they stroked. Before they could climax, Boris broke the kiss and murmured, "Thomas is watching. I think he is jealous."
"There's no reason for him to be alone ~ Jamie Fessenden
Samantha Hunt quotes by Jamie Fessenden
So instead I stare at the steaming liquid dripping into a coffeepot and start thinking of steaming volcanoes. And dinosaurs standing around drinking coffee, staring up at the giant meteor soaring through the air, commenting on how pretty it is. ~ Lynda Mullaly Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
I miss how things were familiar with him, even if it was the familiar feeling of being let down. ~ Samantha Schutz
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Schutz
Through steep, and sheer, and inaccessible,
through difficult and through impossible
places, they track him, and he flees the hunt
he has so often led, longing to cry out
to the pack behind him, "It's me! Actaeon!
Recognize your master!" But the words
betray him and the air resounds with baying.

...torn by their teeth, he makes
a sound no man would make and no stag either,
a cry that echoes through those well-know heights;
and kneeling like a supplicant at prayer,
he turns towards them pleading with his eyes,
as a man would with his hands. ~ Ovid
Samantha Hunt quotes by Ovid
Who knows what goes on in that girl's head? Who knows what goes on in anybody's head really? ~ Arlene Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Arlene Hunt
My family don't watch a lot of what I do. Films are a bit too arty-farty for them, certainly the ones I do! ~ Samantha Morton
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Morton
My first book deal was actually for a textbook - 'Judo and You' - that I wrote while teaching at Temple University. A scout for Kendall-Hunt came looking for someone to write the book, and even though it wasn't a course I was teaching there, I agreed to write it. ~ Jonathan Maberry
Samantha Hunt quotes by Jonathan Maberry
I chaired the 1982 Democratic Party Commission on Presidential Nominations that created certain automatic delegates to the Democratic convention - the 'superdelegates.' It was a good idea then, and it is still a good idea. ~ Jim Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Jim Hunt
Drafting green from a thousand trees shining on each bank of the river in the noonday sun, he threw down steps and made a little platform to stand on. "We", he declared, "are damaged but not dismayed, oppressed but no overwhelmed. We are the Broken, for when our oaths were tested, we broke them ourselves. We were despised: Here are my best friends. This world sees a bastard, an orphan, a hostage, a cripple, an idiot. I call them the Mighty. We - you - are outcasts all, the homeless driven from the lands where our mothers were buried. They have taken the light from our lives. Killed our loved ones, our friends. Taken our homes. Left us to wander as ghosts and feral dogs." [...]

[...]"They have taken the light from us. Yes. But now they expect us to cower like dogs beaten and fade like shades forgotten. But I don't see dogs and shades here. Do they not know what they've begun? I see wolves. I see ghosts..."

He looked around them as if they had forgotten who they were, and he was here to hold up a mirror for them that they might remember.

"Have you forgotten? Have they made you, for this brief houyr, forget? Ghosts and Wolves hunt at night. They thin we cower, waiting for the light? Alone we are broken, bereaved, afraid. together we will hunt. In the darkness, we will usher them into the final darkness. Alone we were weak and frightened. That time is past. Together, today, we are the Nightbringers. ~ Brent Weeks
Samantha Hunt quotes by Brent Weeks
Jake once said on stage that Jonny was the mighty in their storm, and now I see that Jake is my mighty storm. He's broken and complex, and no one knows him like I do, or ever will. He needs me. He's my storm to calm. And I'm going to spend the rest of my life doing just that. ~ Samantha Towle
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Towle
I'm an appalling flyer. I get very tense, although I no longer weep uncontrollably for no reason - I just sob if there's turbulence. ~ Samantha Bond
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Bond
Friends, my ass," Joss grunted ... "The sexual tension between you two is off the charts." Her grin turned smug. "Reminds me of me and Mr Carmichael."
"No details." Ellie held up a hand, her eyes pleading.
"I wasn't going to," Joss assured her, but we knew where her mind had wandered by the still smug smile curing her mouth and the heat in her eyes. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
Anglers boast of the innocence of their pastime; yet it puts fellow-creatures to the torture. They pique themselves on their meditative faculties; and yet their only excuse is a want of thought. ~ Leigh Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Leigh Hunt
He should have recognized that what really fascinated him was the hunt, the adventure of searching out his victims. And, to a degree, possessing them physically, as one would possess a potted plant, a painting or a Porsche. Owning, as it were, this individual. ~ Ted Bundy
Samantha Hunt quotes by Ted Bundy
If your lives connect with other people you have influence. ~ Johnny Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Johnny Hunt
But pride carries its banner to the last; and fast as it is driven from one field unfurls it in another, never admitting that there is a shade less honor in the second field than in the first, or in the third than in the second; and so on till death. ~ Helen Hunt Jackson
Samantha Hunt quotes by Helen Hunt Jackson
Ead knew the scent of a secret. She wore it like a perfume. ~ Samantha Shannon
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Shannon
Without a word he started stalking down the street in the opposite direction my grandparents had taken. I started after him, my steps slower.
And then quite abruptly Caine whipped around and marched back toward me. Features etched with determination, he yanked me roughly to him and crushed his mouth down over mine. I made a noise of surprise in the back of my throat before my instincts took over. I couldn't help sinking into his kiss.
When he finally let me go we were both breathing hard. Caine smoothed his thumb over my cheek, his eyes still dark with passion and anger.
I could give a fuck who saw that. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
Let us not think of the future this night. It is not yet dawn. We still have time for airy hopes. ~ Samantha Shannon
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Shannon
There are sadistic scientists who hurry to hunt down errors instead of establishing the truth. ~ Marie Curie
Samantha Hunt quotes by Marie Curie
Not many people like him, he's an angry man. He'd go after his own shadow. ~ Stephen Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Stephen Hunt
She gave me a lopsided quirk of a smile. "Joss," her voice hoarse, barely audible.
I wanted to run. I know. That's horrible. But I wanted to run away from this part. People ending up in hospital had never concluded well in my life, and seeing her there, so vulnerable, so exhausted, just reminded me of how close we might have come to losing her.
I felt a hand squeeze mine and I turned my head to see Hannah watching me. She looked as pale as I felt, and her fingers were trembling between mine. She was scared too. I smiled reassuringly at her, hoping I was pulling it off. "Ellie is okay. Come on." I tugged on her hand and pulled her with me to Ellie's bed side.
I reached out for the hand Ellie had held out for her mom, and I slid mine into it, feeling relief and love as she gave me a gentle squeeze. ~ Samantha Young
Samantha Hunt quotes by Samantha Young
They dressed for dinner and followed the strict discipline of upper class English families. The next morning they took me with them for the county fox hunt. Since I could not ride, I asked to be excused. But I did get to see the ritual of dress, the hierarchy observed among hunting types, the blowing of horns, the handling of beagles, a poor fox being run to death and having its tail (brush) cut off. Having achieved their object, glasses of sherry were passed round like prasad after a religious service. ~ Khushwant Singh
Samantha Hunt quotes by Khushwant Singh
I once read that if the folds in the cerebral cortex were smoothed out it would cover a card table. That seemed quite unbelievable but it did make me wonder just how big the cortex would be if you ironed it out. I thought it might just about cover a family-sized pizza: not bad, but no card-table. I was astonished to realize that nobody seems to know the answer. A quick search yielded the following estimates for the smoothed out dimensions of the cerebral cortex of the human brain.

An article in Bioscience in November 1987 by Julie Ann Miller claimed the cortex was a "quarter-metre square." That is napkin-sized, about ten inches by ten inches. Scientific American magazine in September 1992 upped the ante considerably with an estimated of 1 1/2 square metres; thats a square of brain forty inches on each side, getting close to the card-table estimate. A psychologist at the University of Toronto figured it would cover the floor of his living room (I haven't seen his living room), but the prize winning estimate so far is from the British magazine New Scientist's poster of the brain published in 1993 which claimed that the cerebral cortex, if flattened out, would cover a tennis court. How can there be such disagreement? How can so many experts not know how big the cortex is? I don't know, but I'm on the hunt for an expert who will say the cortex, when fully spread out, will cover a football field. A Canadian football field. ~ Jay Ingram
Samantha Hunt quotes by Jay Ingram
Let me tell you a story," I say instead. "Once upon a time, there was a girl whose life was saved by the faery king - "

"This story sounds distinctly familiar. I think I might have heard it somewhere before."

I shush him and say not to interrupt. "If anyone asked her how she felt about the king, she would have said she loathed him. He ruthlessly trained her to fight his own kind. He taught her to kill. She learned from his lessons how to quiet the rage that burned inside her. But she had already decided that one day, when she had grown strong enough and learned everything she could about battle, she was going to murder him."

Kiaran goes still, his eyes glittering in the darkness. He says nothing.

"Her opportunity came one night when he decided she was ready to hunt her first faery. It was a skriker that had been terrorizing a nearby village, slaughtering children in the night. The king handed the girl his sword and ordered her to kill the goblin-like creature.

"She barely won. But in the end, as she thrust the sword deep into the monster's gut, she felt something so profoundly that she thought it would consume her. So she told the king. She whispered the words and meant them with every part of her rage-filled soul: 'I hate you. I hate all of you.' When she lifted the sword again, she intended to pierce it right through his heart.

"That was the first time the girl had ever seen the faery king smile."

God gives enabling grace to go on. ~ Johnny Hunt
Samantha Hunt quotes by Johnny Hunt
Great eagles fly alone; great lions hunt alone; great souls walk alone-alone with God. Such loneliness is hard to endure, and impossible to enjoy unless God accompanied. Prophets are lone men; they walk alone, pray alone and God makes them alone. ~ Leonard Ravenhill
Samantha Hunt quotes by Leonard Ravenhill
