He liked the English and their peculiarities. He liked their stoicism under pressure; on the wall in his factory he kept a copy of a war poster emblazoned with the Crown of King George and underneath the words Keep Calm and Carry On. ~ Natasha Solomons
King George quotes by Natasha Solomons
[Connor to Major Wentworth, grandson of King George]

King George quotes by Pamela Clare
Today 23 years ago dear Grandmama died. I wonder what she would have thought of a Labour Government. ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
Is it possible that my people live in such awful conditions? I tell you, Mr Wheatley, that if I had to live in conditions like that I would be a revolutionary myself. ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
Like a lot of stupid people, it took a great deal to get an idea into the king's head, but once there, there was no shifting it. ~ Richard Killeen
King George quotes by Richard Killeen
That year, and every year, it seemed, we began by studying the Revolutionary War. We were taken in school buses on field trips to visit Plymouth Rock, and to walk the Freedom Trail, and to climb to the top of the Bunker Hill Monument. We made dioramas out of colored construction paper depicting George Washington crossing the choppy waters of the Delaware River, and we made puppets of King George wearing white tights and a black bow in his hair. During tests we were given blank maps of the thirteen colonies, and asked to fill in names, dates, capitals. I could do it with my eyes closed. ~ Jhumpa Lahiri
King George quotes by Jhumpa Lahiri
A wise man never makes an enemy of a king. ~ George R R Martin
King George quotes by George R R Martin
The patriots of 1776 had far more to fear from Benedict Arnold than they did King George. An enemy easily identified is much less formidable than one who marches in the uniform of an ally. ~ Chuck Baldwin
King George quotes by Chuck Baldwin
As the Navajo and Christian activist Mark Charles explains, when citizens of the thirteen British colonies composed the Declaration of Independence, among their complaints against King George was that he didn't allow them to apply the Doctrine of Discovery to the people of the lands to their west.22 The Declaration described the indigenous peoples as "merciless Indian savages," clearly not counted among the "all men" whom God supposedly "created equal. ~ Brian D. McLaren
King George quotes by Brian D. McLaren
Radio was used powerfully by Josef Goebbels to disseminate Nazi propaganda, and just as powerfully by King George VI to inspire the British people to fight invasion. ~ Rebecca MacKinnon
King George quotes by Rebecca MacKinnon
The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpationsall of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood. ~ Thomas Jefferson
King George quotes by Thomas Jefferson
How is the Empire? ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
In the entire endless evening his serenity received a jolt only a few times. The first was when someone who didn't know who he was confided that only two months ago Lady Elizabeth's uncle had sent out invitations to all her former suitors offering her hand in marriage.
Suppressing his shock and loathing for her uncle, Ian had pinned an amused smile on his face and confided, "I'm acquainted with the lady's uncle, and I regret to say he's a little mad. As you know, that sort of thing runs," Ian had finished smoothly, "in our finest families." The reference to England's hopeless King George was unmistakable, and the man had laughed uproariously at the joke. "True," he agreed. "Lamentably true." Then he went off to spread the word that Elizabeth's uncle was a confirmed loose screw.
Ian's method of dealing with Sir Francis Belhaven-who, his grandfather had discovered, was boasting that Elizabeth had spent several days with him-was less subtle and even more effective. "Belhaven," Ian said after spending a half hour searching for the repulsive knight.
The stout man had whirled around in surprise, leaving his acquaintances straining to hear Ian's low conversation with him. "I find your presence repugnant," Ian had said in a dangerously quiet voice. "I dislike your coat, I dislike your shirt, and I dislike the knot in your neckcloth. In fact, I dislike you. Have I offended you enough yet, or shall I continue?"
Belhaven's mouth dropped open, his pasty face turning a ~ Judith McNaught
King George quotes by Judith McNaught
How they loved to promise heads, these men who would be king. ~ George R R Martin
King George quotes by George R R Martin
Always go to the bathroom when you have a chance. ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
Benedict Arnold was appointed to the rank of general in the Continental Army by George Washington during the American War of Independence. It was up to him to protect the fortifications at West Point, New York, which in 1802 became the U.S. Military Academy. Arnold however planned to surrender his command to the British forces. When his treasonous act was discovered Arnold fled down the Hudson River to the British sloop-of-war Vulture, avoiding capture by the forces of George Washington, who had previously been alerted to the plot. Arnold was hailed a hero by the British, who gave him a commission in the British Army as brigadier general. In the winter of 1782, after the war, he moved to London with his wife where he was received as a hero by King George III. In the United States his name "Benedict Arnold" became synonyms for the words "TRAITOR & TREASON."
Cohorting with a foreign power to overthrow the government or purposely aiding the enemy is an act of Treason! ~ Hank Bracker
King George quotes by Hank Bracker
King George V and Queen Mary had been inadequate parents. Both were shy, inhibited, inarticulate people, not given to displays of emotion or affection. ~ Theo Aronson
King George quotes by Theo Aronson
I was having a drink with Hugh Laurie, with whom I'd worked on his series House, and I told him I wanted to write a breakup letter from King George to the colonies. Without blinking, he improv'd at me, "Awwww, you'll be back," wagging his finger. I laughed and filed it away. Thanks, Hugh Laurie. ~ Lin-Manuel Miranda
King George quotes by Lin-Manuel Miranda
There, I guess King George will be able to read that without his spectacles! ~ John Hancock
King George quotes by John Hancock
By today's standards King George III was a very mild tyrant indeed. He taxed his American colonists at a rate of only pennies per annum. His actual impact on their personal lives was trivial. He had arbitrary power over them in law and in principle but in fact it was seldom exercised. If you compare his rule with that of today's U.S. Government you have to wonder why we celebrate our independence.. ~ Joseph Sobran
King George quotes by Joseph Sobran
I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love. ~ King George
King George quotes by King George
The original American patriots were those individuals brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George ... Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security. ~ Ron Paul
King George quotes by Ron Paul
Mad, is he? Then I hope he will bite some of my other generals. ~ King George II
King George quotes by King George II
I was doing a civil rights musical here in Los Angeles, and we sang at one of the rallies where Dr. Martin Luther King spoke, and I remember the thrill I felt when we were introduced to him. To have him shake your hand was an absolutely unforgettable experience. ~ George Takei
King George quotes by George Takei
I have many times asked myself whether there can be more potent advocates of peace upon earth through the years to come than this massed multitude of silent witnesses to the desolation of war. ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
I am the King. I tell. I am not told. I am the verb, sir. I am not the object. (King George III) ~ Alan Bennett
King George quotes by Alan Bennett
He has no choice.'
'You are wrong, my lord. He can choose to die a king. ~ George R.R. Martin
King George quotes by George R.R. Martin
Do we call this the land of the free? What is it to be free from King George and continue the slaves of King Prejudice? What is it to be born free and not to live free? What is the value of any political freedom, but as a means to moral freedom? Is it a freedom to be slaves, or a freedom to be free, of which we boast? We are a nation of politicians, concerned about the outmost defences only of freedom. It is our children's children who may perchance be really free. We tax ourselves unjustly. There is a part of us which is not represented. It is taxation without representation. We quarter troops, we quarter fools and cattle of all sorts upon ourselves. We quarter our gross bodies on our poor souls, till the former eat up all the latter's substance. ~ Henry David Thoreau
King George quotes by Henry David Thoreau
Nothing of importance happened today. ~ King George III
King George quotes by King George III
The Stamp Act was a direct tax imposed on the colonies by King George III. This act inevitably led to the American Revolution. Just as the Stamp Act did in 1765, Obamacare should act as a wake-up call. Chief Justice Roberts provides us with a similar call to action. ~ Rand Paul
King George quotes by Rand Paul
The refusal of King George to allow the colonies to operate an honest money system, which freed the ordinary man from clutches of the money manipulators was probably the prime cause of the revolution. ~ Benjamin Franklin
King George quotes by Benjamin Franklin
The American Colonists under King George III had it pretty good compared to us. They would wonder why we haven't taken up arms and seceded yet. ~ Lewis Goldberg
King George quotes by Lewis Goldberg
You've got to understand one of the tricks of the modern mind, a tendency that most people obey without noticing it. In the village or suburb outside there's an inn with the sign of St. George and the Dragon. Now suppose I went about telling everybody that this was only a corruption of King George and the Dragoon. Scores of people would believe it, without any inquiry, from a vague feeling that it's probable because it's prosaic. It turns something romantic and legendary into something recent and ordinary. And that somehow makes it sound rational, though it is unsupported by reason. Of course some people would have the sense to remember having seen St. George in old Italian pictures and French romances, but a good many wouldn't think about it at all. They would just swallow the skepticism because it was skepticism. Modern intelligence won't accept anything on authority. But it will accept anything without authority. That's exactly what has happened here. ~ G.K. Chesterton
King George quotes by G.K. Chesterton
House of Commons: 'You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.' Later this speech was generally cited as a classic example of determination and courage, but the reactions at the time were not all that enthusiastic. In his diary, Harold Nicolson noted: 'When Chamberlain enters the House he gets a terrific reception, when Churchill comes in the applause is less.' Many of the British, including King George VI and most of the Conservatives, considered Churchill in those days to be a warmonger and a dangerous adventurer. There was a strong undercurrent in favour of reaching an accord with Hitler. ~ Geert Mak
King George quotes by Geert Mak
Cruel and paradoxical though it undoubtedly is, the record shows that yje most succesful 20th century monarchs have been those who were not actually born to succeed. King George VI was 41 when the abdication of Edward VIII propelled him suddenly and unexpectedly to take up the crown; and Queen Elizabeth II spent her first decade with no inkling thay she herself might one day have to reign. Taken together, these examples suggest that the best preparation for the job of sovereign is not to be prepared for it at all, ir not to be too well prepared for it, or for too long. ~ David Cannadine
King George quotes by David Cannadine
But I did not bring the Wild Boy to England simply so he could learn from us. I also brought him here so we could learn from him; so we can remember what it means to be young- to be innocent. You are still young now, but there will come a time when you will be grown-up, and it is easy, so easy, to forget how precious, how dear, life is. Then you forget to smile, to laugh, to cry, to dream. I hope knowing Peter will help you to hold on fiercely to your own innocence, to live joyfully, even in the midst of difficult times. ~ Christopher Daniel Mechling
King George quotes by Christopher Daniel Mechling
After I am dead, the boy will ruin himself in twelve months. ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
When the Prince of Wales [later King George IV] and the Duke of York went to visit their brother Prince William [later William IV]at Plymouth, and all three being very loose in their manners, and coarse in their language, Prince William said to his ship's crew, now I hope you see that I am not the greatest blackguard of my family. ~ Horace Walpole
King George quotes by Horace Walpole
Told to make his peace with King George, Sam Adams replied "Years ago I made my Peace with the King of Kings ~ Desperate Sons
King George quotes by Desperate Sons
When we were the political slaves of King George, and wanted to be free, we called the maxim that "all men are created equal" a self evident truth; but now when we have grown fat, and have lost all dread of being slaves ourselves, we have become so greedy to be masters that we call the same maxim "a self evident lie" The fourth of July has not quite dwindled away; it is still a great day-for burning fire-crackers!!! ~ Abraham Lincoln
King George quotes by Abraham Lincoln
My dear old friend King George V told me he would never have died but for that vile doctor, Lord Dawson of Penn. ~ Margot Asquith
King George quotes by Margot Asquith
FALSE EQUIVALENCY

If you compare the Koch brothers to George Soros and you compare MSNBC to FOX News then why not compare the NAACP to the Ku Klux Klan, George Washington to King George, Abraham Lincoln to Jefferson Davis, Barack Obama to Vladimir Putin;
If you compare the Democratic party to the Republican party then why not compare Citizens United with Brown versus Board of Education, Churchill to Mussolini, Martin Luther King to George Wallace;
If you compare Liberals to Conservatives then why not compare Boxing to Cage Fighting, Mozart to Salieri, Edward Kennedy Ellington to Lawrence Welk, Three Card Monty to Inside Trading, John Birks Gillespie to Cab Callaway;
If you are mentally slothful enough to engage in false equivalency, why not go all the way? Pretend that ignorance equates with knowledge, Science with Mythology and empathy with apathy? ~ E. Landon Hobgood
King George quotes by E. Landon Hobgood
That's something for me to consider. So what else can you tempt me with?"
Breckenridge hid a wry smile; he'd guessed that, in common with her female Cynster mentors, she'd be drawn to the prospect of managing a large household and the estate's people. Organizing ran in the blood. "I believe I mentioned that I'm under sisterly edict to marry. Unsurprisingly, a large and pertinent motive behind my sisters' prodding is the desirability of me begetting an heir, or more, thus securing the succession. Perish the thought the estate might ever revert to the Crown, so you could view your pole as my future countess as in part holding the ton line against King George and his cronies."
She narrowed her eyes on his. That's the most inventive way I've ever heard of saying you want children."
His lips curved, then he let the expression fade. "I do-but do you?"
She looked forward. "Yes, of course." After a moment she added, "I can't imagine not wanting children, truth be told."
"Well, then we're in agreement on that."
"Don't get carried away-you haven't yet convinced me we should wed. ~ Stephanie Laurens
King George quotes by Stephanie Laurens
Who better to raise Prince Rhaegar's infant son than Prince Rhaegar's dear friend Jon Connington, once Lord of Griffin's Roost and Hand of the King? ~ George R R Martin
King George quotes by George R R Martin
Many of the same people who are crying for mankind to tolerate everything have overlooked examples of intolerance that have utterly reshaped the country in which we live. For instance, what would this country be like if George Washington had tolerated British troops? Where would we be today if Thomas Jefferson had tolerated King George III? Or what if Fredrick Douglas had tolerated slavery, or Martin Luther King Jr. had tolerated segregation? What would America be like if Winston Churchill had tolerated Adolf Hitler or if Susan B. Anthony tolerated only men voting? Part of what made these individuals great was that they were strong enough to stand up for their convictions. They recognized something as "wrong," and they didn't tolerate it. ~ Brad Harrub
King George quotes by Brad Harrub
It is every man's duty to remain loyal to his rightful King, even if the lord he serves proves false. ~ George R R Martin
King George quotes by George R R Martin
Under a pulsating full moon, the gussied-up Billie Jean King National Tennis Center seems much softer and prettier at night, with the fountains bubbling and fans without tickets to the big stadium sitting in the plaza and watching a big screen. ~ George Vecsey
King George quotes by George Vecsey
The Lord bless King George, convert him... and take him to heaven, as we want no more of him! ~ Roseanna M. White
King George quotes by Roseanna M. White
I salute to you Commander and I sneeze 'Cause I have Now an Allergy To your policies it seems Where have we gone wrong America? Mr. Lincoln we can't seem to find you anywhere out of the millions From the deserts To the mountains Over prairies To the shores Is this just the Madness of King George Yo George Is this just the Madness of King George Yo George Well you have the whole Nation on all fours. ~ Tori Amos
King George quotes by Tori Amos
My father was frightened of his mother; I was frightened of my father, and I am damned well going to see to it that my children are frightened of me. ~ King George V
King George quotes by King George V
The gentlemen are up there, sare," he said. "They do talk and they do laugh at what they talk. They do say they will throw bombs at ze king. ~ G.K. Chesterton
King George quotes by G.K. Chesterton
After years spent trying to deal with the effects of COINTELPRO, my rage at the FBI's almost unimaginable evil remains undiminished because I believe that it succeeded in many of its horrifying goals, given the deaths of Martin King, Malcolm X, and other sixties leaders. Since the FBI uses taxpayer dollars to fund its extreme and ridiculous investigations of anyone who expresses dissenting opinions, even resorting to crime - including theft, encouragement to murder, subornation of perjury, and manipulation of the judicial process - to achieve its ends, I have always advocated its disbanding. ~ William Kunstler
King George quotes by William Kunstler
I had a beautiful mother and a famous father, and I didn't know where I fit in. ~ Elle King
King George quotes by Elle King
For the weak who seek power it'll bring, infallible the power, knowledge is king. ~ Kool Moe Dee
King George quotes by Kool Moe Dee
When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives. ~ George R R Martin
King George quotes by George R R Martin
The two of them had discovered it was all right to open the closets ... as long as you didn't poke too far back in them. Because things might still be lurking there, ready to bite. ~ Stephen King
King George quotes by Stephen King
The election of Senator Barack Obama brought jubilation across Africa, where millions celebrated him as 'one of their own.' ~ George Ayittey
King George quotes by George Ayittey
The majority of pacifists either belong to obscure religious sects or are simply humanitarians who object to taking life and prefer not to follow their thoughts beyond that point. But there is a minority of intellectual pacifists, whose real though unacknowledged motive appears to be hatred of western democracy and admiration for totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda usually boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writing of the younger intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed almost entirely against Britain and the United States ... ~ George Orwell
King George quotes by George Orwell
In England it is bad manners to be clever, to assert something confidently. It may be your own personal view that two and two make four, but you must not state it in a self-assured way, because this is a democratic country and others may be of a different opinion. ~ George Mikes
King George quotes by George Mikes
Come, come to Him who made thy heart; Come weary and oppressed; To come to Jesus is thy part; His part, to give thee rest. ~ George MacDonald
King George quotes by George MacDonald
You humiliate a rich person and they're still rich. You humiliate a brilliant person and they're still smart. A person who is well connected is still the king of England. But if you humiliate a young person, you take away the only form of power they have. ~ Chuck Palahniuk
King George quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
Tis the greatest misfortune in nature for a woman to want a confidant. ~ George Farquhar
King George quotes by George Farquhar
When I see a large group of people, I wonder how many of them will eventually require autopsies. ~ George Carlin

King George quotes by Stephen King
Building on the work of George Macdonald, William Morris and Edward Plunkett, what became known as high fantasy was more or less invented by J. R. R. Tolkien. ~ Adrian McKinty
King George quotes by Adrian McKinty
Dear child of God, if after great mercy you are laid very low, your case is not an unusual one. When David had mounted the throne of Israel, he said, "I am this day weak, though anointed king." You must expect to feel weakest when you are enjoying your greatest triumph. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
King George quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
This is what is meant by "Thy king cometh." You do not seek him, but he seeks you. You do not find him, he finds you. For the preachers come from him, not from you; their sermons come from him, not from you; your faith comes from him, not from you; everything that faith works in you comes from him, not from you; and where he does not come, you remain outside; and where there is no Gospel there is no God, but only sin and damnation, free will may do, suffer, work and live as it may and can. ~ Martin Luther
King George quotes by Martin Luther
To know intense joy without a strong bodily frame, one must have an enthusiastic soul. ~ George Eliot
King George quotes by George Eliot
It (baseball) has no clock, no ties and no Liberal intrusions into the organized progression. ~ George Will
King George quotes by George Will
You must remind me, little one. When I... when I lose myself - when I lose her - you must remind me that I am still searching, still waiting... that I have never forgotten her, never turned from all she taught me. I sit in this place... I sit... because a king has to sit, you see... but in my mind, in my poor mind, I am always away with her.... ~ Peter S. Beagle
King George quotes by Peter S. Beagle
Americans have known about mounting inequality and king-sized Wall Street bonuses for years. But we also had an entire genre of journalism dedicated to brushing the problem off. ~ Thomas Frank
King George quotes by Thomas Frank
Nothing is more frustrating than sitting in an office amid typewriters and mimeographers when you know what deus ex machina means. ~ Florence King
King George quotes by Florence King
He that's long a giving, knowes not how to give. ~ George Herbert
King George quotes by George Herbert
A king is the first servant and first magistrate of the state. ~ Frederick The Great
King George quotes by Frederick The Great
Cardinal Campeggio has implored Katherine to bow to the king's will, accept that her marriage is invalid and retire to a convent. Certainly, she says sweetly, she will become a nun: if the king will become a monk. ~ Hilary Mantel
King George quotes by Hilary Mantel
Great men sometimes lose the reins and lose their heads. This time, let us hope that they will retain them and that when victory is assured they will sit down and reckon what the future is going to be for their countries as well as for other lands. ~ David Lloyd George
King George quotes by David Lloyd George
Another black dragon, he thought. Another Blackfyre Rebellion. And soon another Redgrass field. The grass was not red when the sun came up. ~ George R R Martin
King George quotes by George R R Martin
In very truth, a wise imagination, which is the presence of the spirit of God, is the best guide that man or woman can have; for it is not the things we see the most clearly that influence us the most powerfully; undefined, yet vivid visions of something beyond, something which eye has not seen nor ear heard, have far more influence than any logical sequences whereby the same things may be demonstrated to the intellect. It is the nature of the thing, not the clearness of its outline, that determines its operation. We live by faith, and not by sight. ~ George MacDonald
King George quotes by George MacDonald
The government paid the family of Richard Nixon $18 million for papers, tape recordings and other materials seized after Watergate. ~ Dexter Scott King
