Breuning drove. Dudley sat up front Carlisle sat in back, with three sawed-off shotguns. ~ James Ellroy
Dudley quotes by James Ellroy
What if love is this fun game that started from heaven with you and I, perfectly together.

And then, at some point, we agreed to play a game, to be tossed into a world in which we would spend the rest of our lives trying to find each other.

Wouldn't it be fun to know that no matter what, no matter when, no matter how, and no matter where, at some point I'd find you, and say ... "Hello. ~ Israel S. Dudley
Dudley quotes by Israel S. Dudley

Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner

Film scores are often based on short themes, and it helps if you've got some way of developing these themes and making them sometimes last 4 minutes and sometimes last 40 seconds. One ends up doing it subconsciously. ~ Anne Dudley
Dudley quotes by Anne Dudley
To own a bit of ground, to scratch it with a hoe, to plant seeds, and watch the renewal of life - this is the commonest delight of the race, the most satisfactory thing a man can do. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
A woman set on anything will walk right through the moral crockery without wincing. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
I do look a bit different because Dudley was a very piggish character and about three years ago I lost quite a considerable amount of weight. It means that I can lead a normal life without the baggage of people running after me and shouting things at me. ~ Harry Melling
Dudley quotes by Harry Melling
A cynic might suggest as the motto of modern life this simple legend-just as good as the real. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Usually one or two things happen: Either you have an idea straightaway - the sort of sound that you want or the instrumentation or one particular sound that you want to feature - or you don't. ~ Anne Dudley
Dudley quotes by Anne Dudley
This has led evangelicals to ethnocentrism, to asserting their historically contingent cultural values as "biblical truth." In the conservative direction, this has closed off productive dialogue between evangelicals and mainline Christians on gay marriage - because if the Bible has an obvious stance on the matter, as most evangelicals believe, the other side must be intentionally denying the truth. In the liberal direction, this has led green evangelicals to ignore the role contemporary experiences and theology have played in their reinterpretation of the Bible on environmental matters. ~ Jonathan Dudley
Dudley quotes by Jonathan Dudley
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were friends and the last people I expected would predecease me. They were, in a sense, casualties of fame. ~ Barry Humphries
Dudley quotes by Barry Humphries
One rich Man hath Lands, not only more than he can manage, but so much, that letting them out to others, he is supplied with a large over-plus, so needs no farther care. ~ Dudley North
Dudley quotes by Dudley North
That evening, Dudley paraded around the living room for the family in his brand new uniform ... As he looked at Dudley in his new knickerbockers, Uncle Vernon said gruffly that if was the proudest moment of his life. Aunt Petunia burst into tears and said she couldn't believe it was her Ickle Dudleykins, he looked so handsome and grown-up. Harry didn't trust himself to speak. He thought two of his ribs might already have cracked from trying not to laugh. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
There isn't a wife in the world who has not taken the exact measure of her husband, weighed him and settled him in her own mind, and knows him as well as if she had ordered him after designs and specifications of her own. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Someone must have noticed a change in a person's lifestyle after October 22, 1989. Someone must have noticed inappropriate comments, or concerns about Jacob's investigation. Someone in the family suspects a member of being a child molester - or a neighbor notes someone with an unusual interest in children or who has few adult friends. But people second-guess themselves, they do not want to get involved, or they talk themselves out of what they know to be true. Maybe they are afraid. Many people have called with their suspicions, yet maybe someone still needs to call - could that someone be you? Please call the proper authorities. I still beg you to call if you have information about who took Jacob. It has been so long - please help. Call 251-4240 or 1-800-325-HOPE. You can remain anonymous. ~ Robert Dudley
Dudley quotes by Robert Dudley
You're wrong," Lord Dudley said. "You've always been a fool."
"The fool thinks he is wise," G retorted. "But the wise man knows himself to be a fool."
That was a great line, he thought. He tried to remember where he'd stashed the quill and paper. ~ Cynthia Hand
Dudley quotes by Cynthia Hand
My favorite work is The Full Monty because I got an Oscar for it. But it was really hard work at the time. Sometimes comedy is not a bundle of laughs to actually do. ~ Anne Dudley
Dudley quotes by Anne Dudley
Harry looked up at his uncle and felt a mixture of exasperation and amusement. Vernon Dursley had been changing his mind every twenty-four hours for the past four weeks, packing and unpacking and repacking the car with every change of heart. Harry's favorite moment had been the one when Uncle Vernon, unaware that Dudley had added his dumbbells to his case since the last time it had been unpacked, had attempted to hoist it back into the boot and collapsed with roars of pain and much swearing. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
I know that unremitting attention to business is the price of success, but I don't know what success is. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Exactly why Dudley wanted a racing bike was a mystery to Harry, as Dudley was very fat and hated exercise - unless of course it involved punching somebody. Dudley ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
This is a sappy way to put it, but the Winthrop who warns Williams is the Winthrop I fell in love with, the Winthrop Cotton Mather celebrates for sharing his firewood with the needy, the Winthrop who scolds Thomas Dudley for overcharging the poor, the Winthrop of 'Christian Charity,' who called for 'enlargement toward others' and 'brotherly affection,' admonishing that 'if thy brother be in want and thou canst help him ... if thou lovest God thou must help him. ~ Sarah Vowell
Dudley quotes by Sarah Vowell
Break up the printing presses and you break up rebellion. ~ Dudley Nichols
Dudley quotes by Dudley Nichols

Dudley quotes by William C. Dudley
To have the power of forgetting, for the time, self, friends, interests, relationship; and to think of doing right toward another, a stranger, an enemy, perhaps, is to have that which men can share only with the angels, and with Him who is above men and angels. ~ David Dudley Field II
Dudley quotes by David Dudley Field II
The thing generally raised on city land is taxes. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
How long have you been 'Big D' then?" said Harry.
"Shut it," snarled Dudley, turning away again.
"Cool name," said Harry, grinning and falling into step beside his cousin. "But you'll always be Ickle Diddykins to me."
"I said, SHUT IT!" said Dudley, whose ham-like hands had curled into fists.
"Don't the boys know that's what your mum calls you?"
"Shut your face."
"You don't tell her to shut her face. What about 'popkin' and 'Dinky Diddydums,' can I use them then? ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
Call me Dudley. We're of equal rank. I'm older, but you're far better looking. I can tell we're going to be grand partners. ~ James Ellroy
Dudley quotes by James Ellroy
Lettuce is like conversation; it must be fresh and crisp, so sparkling that you scarcely notice the bitter in it. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Fear is the highest fence. ~ Dudley Nichols
Dudley quotes by Dudley Nichols
Women are not as sentimental as men, and are not so easily touched with the unspoken poetry of nature, being less poetical, and having less imagination; they are more fitted for practical affairs, and would make fewer failures in business. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
We know from our clinical experience in the practice of medicine that in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment, the individual and his background of heredity are just as important, if not more so, as the disease itself. ~ Paul Dudley White
Dudley quotes by Paul Dudley White
Then, a historic event changed everything for my family: Henry Ford created the Model T. Others soon followed suit, inventing their own automobiles. The people who had been buying and renting carts started buying trucks or small cars instead. Despite my family's expertise in their craft, nobody wanted a car with wooden wheels. Very quickly, within the space of 10 years, their business started to collapse. ~ Simon Dudley
Dudley quotes by Simon Dudley
Aunt Petunia often said that Dudley looked like a baby angel - Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
To be afraid is the miserable condition of a coward. To do wrong, or omit to do right from fear, is to superadd delinquency to cowardice. ~ David Dudley Field II
Dudley quotes by David Dudley Field II
Walking is easiest, you don't need a lot of apparatus. Just shoe leather and good feet. ~ Paul Dudley White
Dudley quotes by Paul Dudley White
Harry had the best morning he'd had in a long time. He was careful to walk a little way apart from the Dursleys so that Dudley and Piers, who were starting to get bored with the animals by lunchtime, wouldn't fall back on their favorite hobby of hitting him. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
If any man, out of an humour, should turn all his Estate into Money, and keep it dead, he would soon be sensible of Poverty growing upon him, whilst he is eating out of the quick stock. ~ Dudley North
Dudley quotes by Dudley North
Politics makes strange bedfellows. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Perhaps nobody ever accomplishes all that he feels lies in him to do; but nearly every one who tries his power touches the walls of his being. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Jesus of Nazareth could have chosen simply to express Himself in moral precepts; but like a great poet He chose the form of the parable, wonderful short stories that entertained and clothed the moral precept in an eternal form. It is not sufficient to catch man's mind, you must also catch the imaginative faculties of his mind. ~ Dudley Nichols
Dudley quotes by Dudley Nichols
Monsters were declared to be warnings against sin, individual or collective, and demonstrations of the anger and the glory of God. ~ Dudley Wilson
Dudley quotes by Dudley Wilson
Oh, why fill the heart with yesterday and tomorrow when this moment is all the heart needs? Let the heart be present, let the mind be here, let the eyes see, let the ears hear, let the soul witness, let the words flow ... down this gentle river, you know the way.

Why must the eyes know exactly where and why must the mind know exactly how and why must the heart know exactly what and why must the soul know exactly when? It doesn't matter.

In the same way that the headlights do not need to show from here all the way to your home before you get there, the headlights just need to show the next few feet. And if the car continues to move, with the headlights showing just the next few feet, you can make it home from anywhere.

So in the same way, let the heart, let the eyes, let the mind, let the ears, let the soul, let the touch of this moment feel what is here ... without focusing on what will be there. Allow the essence of this, and this, and this, and this to enrich your life. Be with this now. Witness the tree as you pass by and watch the birds fly to it, drawn to it in the same way that bugs are drawn to lights. Let your heart be drawn to this moment, let your soul be guided by what is here, now. ~ Israel S. Dudley
Dudley quotes by Israel S. Dudley
Dudley had reached roughly the size and weight of a young killer whale. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
O, here's the shoe my baby wore,
but, baby, where are you? ~ Dudley Randall
Dudley quotes by Dudley Randall
We are half ruined by conformity, but we should be wholly ruined without it. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
You get most out of walking by going along briskly, swinging the arms and breathing deeply. It also helps promote the circulation of blood to the brain. The Greek philosophers promenaded as they philosophized. ~ Paul Dudley White
Dudley quotes by Paul Dudley White
Jonathan Green had a firm handshake, clear eyes, and a jawline not dissimilar to Dudley Do-Right's. He was in his early sixties, with graying hair, a beach-club tan, and a voice that was rich and comforting. A minister's voice. He wasn't a handsome man, but there was a sincerity in his eyes that put you at ease. Jonathan Green was reputed to be one of the top five criminal defense attorneys in America, with a success rate in high-profile criminal defense cases of one hundred percent. Like Elliot Truly, Jonathan Green was wearing an impeccably tailored blue Armani suit. So were the lesser attorneys. Maybe they got a bulk discount. I was wearing impeccably tailored black Gap jeans, a linen aloha shirt, and white Reebok sneakers. Green said, Did Elliot explain why we wanted to see you? ~ Robert Crais
Dudley quotes by Robert Crais
And those are the Rich, who transmit what they have to their Posterity; whereby particular Families become rich; and of such are compounded Cities, Countries, Nations, etc. ~ Dudley North
Dudley quotes by Dudley North
There was never a nation great until it came to the knowledge that it had nowhere in the world to go for help. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
I certainly did feel inferior. Because of class. Because of strength. Because of height. I guess if I'd been able to hit somebody in the nose, I wouldn't have been a comic. ~ Dudley Moore
Dudley quotes by Dudley Moore
Trade is nothing else but a Commutation of Superfluities; for instance: I give mine, what I can spare, for somewhat of yours, which I want, and you can spare. ~ Dudley North
Dudley quotes by Dudley North
We're the victims of a disease called social prejudice, my child. These dear ladies of the law and order league are scouring out the dregs of the town. C'mon be a glorified wreck like me. ~ Dudley Nichols
Dudley quotes by Dudley Nichols
A song was heard at Christmas
To wake the midnight sky:
A saviour's birth, and peace on earth,
And praise to God on high.
The angels sang at Christmas
With all the hosts above,
And still we sing the newborn King
His glory and his love. ~ Timothy Dudley-Smith
Dudley quotes by Timothy Dudley-Smith
I always think it's important to choose your initial theme very carefully because you're going to be married to it for a long time. You might have to generate an hour's worth of music from a very short, little piece of theme. ~ Anne Dudley
Dudley quotes by Anne Dudley
Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig. Harry ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
knew he shouldn't have risen to Dudley's bait, but Dudley had said the very thing Harry had been thinking himself . . . maybe ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
There is no moment of delight in any pilgrimage like the beginning of it. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
They heard the click of the mail slot and flop of letters on the doormat.
"Get the mail, Dudley," said Uncle Vernon from behind his paper.
"Make Harry get it."
"Get the mail, Harry."
"Make Dudley get it."
"Poke him with your Smelting stick, Dudley. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
Your majesty, please reconsider," Lord Dudley pleaded. "Your position will be much stronger with your husband as king. The people will see it as a sign of strength - "
She took a deep breath. "They need signs of my strength, not my reliance on the men around me ~ Cynthia Hand
Dudley quotes by Cynthia Hand
A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world. ~ Paul Dudley White
Dudley quotes by Paul Dudley White
Maybe the memory does play tricks. Increasingly, I'm thinking, 'What was their name? I knew that name yesterday.' I think that's what happens. At some point, I'll forget that I ever worked with Peter Cook, I suppose, and Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller. ~ Dudley Moore
Dudley quotes by Dudley Moore
He's just intelligent-sort of a nerd, actually. He's the only brother I know who made a 1420 on the SAT. I don't think Chris Dudley did that, and Mr. Smarty Pants went to Yale. Kobe doesn't hang out. He doesn't go to the clubs. He doesn't ride around. He doesn't put rims on his car. He's just him. He's a sophisticated kid. Damn mature for his age. ~ Shaquille O'Neal
Dudley quotes by Shaquille O'Neal
Dementors caused a person to relive the worst moments of their life. What would spoiled, pampered, bullying Dudley have been forced to hear? ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
A boy has a natural genius for combining business with pleasure. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
He thought it was a bit rich of Uncle Vernon to call anyone "dumpy," when his own son, Dudley, had finally achieved what he'd been threatening to do since the age of three, and become wider than he was tall. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
I am convinced that the majority of people would be generous from selfish motives, if they had the opportunity. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Nature is, in fact, a suggester of uneasiness, a promoter of pilgrimages and of excursions of the fancy which never come to any satisfactory haven. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
My religion is no garment to be put on and off with the weather. You had better know that, all of you. I shall worship as I please and hope for all men to worship as they please in Scotland. ~ Dudley Nichols
Dudley quotes by Dudley Nichols
Dumbledore paused, and although his voice remained light and calm, and he gave no obvious sign of anger, Harry felt a kind of chill emanating from him and noticed that the Dursleys drew very slightly closer together.
You did not do as I asked. You have never treated Harry as a son. He has known nothing but neglect and often cruelty at your hands. The best that can be said is that he has at least escaped the appalling damage you have inflicted upon the unfortunate boy sitting between you. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
I am deeply saddened by the death of my dear friend, Dudley Moore. ~ Liza Minnelli
Dudley quotes by Liza Minnelli
Nor in truth, can Forreign Trade subsist without the Home Trade, both being connected together. ~ Dudley North
Dudley quotes by Dudley North
People always overdo the matter when they attempt deception. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
At half past eight, Mr. Dursley picked up his briefcase, pecked Mrs. Dursley on the cheek, and tried to kiss Dudley good-bye but missed, because Dudley was now having ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
I love you...

I love you without needing you, I love you without wanting you. I love you for being you. Because, you see, needing you is a necessity; and wanting you is a desire. But being, is as it is. And so, you as you are, this as it is, is as it is just fine.

I guess the next level will be, I love you... with no explanation. Simply because I'm lost at words for you, and even if I found words, none of them would explain. Like a man who speaks another language trying to communicate, so will I be a love that feels an unexplainable feeling, trying to explain. I can't... And that's okay. ~ Israel S. Dudley
Dudley quotes by Israel S. Dudley
...Don't be surprised, and I say it darkly, do not be surprised if you lose your Luke in this cause; perhaps Mrs. Dudley has not yet had her own mid morning snack, and she is perfectly capable of a filet de Luke á la meuniére, or perhaps dieppoise, depending upon her mood; if I do not return" -and he shook his finger warningly under the doctor's nose- "I entreat you to regard your lunch with the gravest suspicion." Bowing extravagantly, as befitted one off to slay a giant, he closed the door behind him. ~ Shirley Jackson
Dudley quotes by Shirley Jackson
Do you mean to tell me', he growled a the Dursleys, 'that this boy- this boy! - knows nothin' abou' - about ANYTHING?'
Harry thought this was going a bit far. He had been to school, after all, and his marks were'nt bad.
'I know some things,' he said. ' I can, you know, do maths and stuff.'
But Hagrid simply waved his hand and said, 'About our world, I mean. Your world. My world. Yer' parents world.'
'What world?'
Hagrid looked at though he was about to explode.
'DURSLEY!' he boomed.
Uncle Vernon, who had gone very pale, whispered something that sounded like 'Mimblewimble'.
Hagrid stared wildly at Harry.
'But yeh must know about yer mum and dad', he said. 'I mean, they're famous. You're famous.
'What? My - my mum and dad weren't famous, were they?'
'Yeh don' know... yeh don' know...' Hagrid ran his fingers through his hair, fixing Harry with a bewildered stare.
'Yeh don' know what yeh are?' he said finally.
Uncle Vernon suddenly found his voice.
'Stop!' he commanded, 'stop right there, sir! I forbid you to tell the boy anything!'
A braver man than Vernon dudley would have quailed under the furious look Hagrid now gave him; when Hagrid spoke, his every syllable trembled with rage.
'You never told him? Never told him what was in the latter Dumbledore left fer him? I was there! I saw Dumbledore leave it, Dursley! An' you kept it from him all these years?'
'Kept what from me?' said Harry eagerl ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
If I wanted to have a happy garden, I must ally myself with my soil; study and help it to the utmost, untiringly ... Always, the soil must come first. ~ Marion Dudley Cran
Dudley quotes by Marion Dudley Cran
Happy is said to be the family which can eat onions together. They are, for the time being, separate, from the world, and have a harmony of aspiration. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
No man but feels more of a man in the world if he have a bit of ground that he can call his own. However small it is on the surface, it is four thousand miles deep; and that is a very handsome property. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
Stars of heaven, clear and bright, Shine upon this Christmas light, Vaster far than midnight skies Are its timeless mysteries. ~ Timothy Dudley-Smith
Dudley quotes by Timothy Dudley-Smith
Harry repressed a snort with difficulty. The Dursleys really were astonishingly stupid about their son, Dudley; they had swallowed all his dim-witted lies about having tea with a different member of his gang every night of the summer holidays. Harry knew perfectly well that Dudley had not been to tea anywhere; he and his gang spent every evening vandalizing the play park, smoking on street corners, and throwing stones at passing cars and children. Harry had seen them at it during his evening walks around Little Whinging; he had spent most of the holidays wandering the streets, scavenging newspapers from bins along the way. ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
Daddy's gone mad, hasn't he? ~ J.K. Rowling
Dudley quotes by J.K. Rowling
Regrets are idle; yet history is one long regret. Everything might have turned out so differently. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
You gonna suck the marrow out of that bone?" he asked, hoping for a distraction.
"Like to suck something else."
"Christ," Alex sputtered. He sure walked right into that one.
"Just sayin'."
Alex took another giant swig. "You got a dirty mouth."
"I'd be more than happy to show you dirty. Just like I did this mornin'. By the way...you looked amazin' when you unloaded. ~ Anne Dudley
Dudley quotes by Anne Dudley
The Fed is on hold at least through the election but I think we'll get a little more tightening at the start of next year. I think, for the time being, we have a soft landing. But I think the reality is the stock market rally will probably add a little fuel to the economy and the tightening will return next year. ~ William C. Dudley
Dudley quotes by William C. Dudley
Plots are no more exhausted than men are. Every man is a new creation, and combinations are simply endless. ~ Charles Dudley Warner
Dudley quotes by Charles Dudley Warner
It's really the sound of the voices, the sound of the words, the sound of the sound that we're interested in. ~ Anne Dudley
Dudley quotes by Anne Dudley
Volvo - they're boxy but they're good. ~ Dudley Moore
Dudley quotes by Dudley Moore
I favor parking a few miles from the office and walking to work. You get the benefit of exercise and besides it is easier to get a parking space. ~ Paul Dudley White
Dudley quotes by Paul Dudley White
Asleep was the way Harry liked the Dursleys best; it wasn't as though they were ever any help to him awake. Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and Dudley were Harry's only living relatives. They were Muggles who hated and despised magic in any form, which meant that Harry was about as welcome in their house as dry rot. They had explained away Harry's long absences at Hogwarts over the last three years by telling everyone that he went to St. Brutus's Secure Center for Incurably Criminal Boys. They knew perfectly well that, as an underage wizard, Harry wasn't allowed to use magic outside Hogwarts, but they were still apt to blame him for anything that went wrong about the house. Harry had never been able to confide in them or tell them anything about his life in the Wizarding world. The very idea of going to them when they awoke, and telling them about his scar hurting him, and about his worries about Voldemort, was laughable. ~ J.K. Rowling
