I want to be remembered as a great player, but I guess it will be as a player who got angry on a tennis court. ~ John McEnroe
Tennis Court quotes by John McEnroe
On the tennis court, one needs a cool temperament, tremendous ball sense, reflexes, speed, hand-eye co-ordination, power, timing and peak physical fitness. Off the court, the player and support team need skills in planning, execution, travel, an ability to raise funds when needed, and several other talents. ~ Sania Mirza
Tennis Court quotes by Sania Mirza
I grew up on the tennis court with lots of other kids. There were like 40 kids all afternoon and I was one of the youngest ones, so I always had to chase everybody to keep up. ~ Martina Hingis
Tennis Court quotes by Martina Hingis
To me, Hewitt and Nadal would be the best spirited fighters I've ever seen on the tennis court. ~ Mats Wilander
Tennis Court quotes by Mats Wilander
I cried myself, thinking of the grass growing on her tennis court, and the cruelty that was natural. ~ William Trevor
Tennis Court quotes by William Trevor
Nixon was becoming a discombobulated president, politically on the run. His interior secretary, Walter Hickel, posted a letter to the president that leaked to the Washington Star: "Youth in its protest must be heard." Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe were all young people in their day, Hickel argued; their "protests fell on deaf ears and finally led to war." (The president's response was to bulldoze the White House tennis court, beloved of Hickel.) ~ Rick Perlstein
Tennis Court quotes by Rick Perlstein
I think I've always had a decent perspective on wins and losses on the tennis court. ~ Andy Roddick
Tennis Court quotes by Andy Roddick
I once read that if the folds in the cerebral cortex were smoothed out it would cover a card table. That seemed quite unbelievable but it did make me wonder just how big the cortex would be if you ironed it out. I thought it might just about cover a family-sized pizza: not bad, but no card-table. I was astonished to realize that nobody seems to know the answer. A quick search yielded the following estimates for the smoothed out dimensions of the cerebral cortex of the human brain.

An article in Bioscience in November 1987 by Julie Ann Miller claimed the cortex was a "quarter-metre square." That is napkin-sized, about ten inches by ten inches. Scientific American magazine in September 1992 upped the ante considerably with an estimated of 1 1/2 square metres; thats a square of brain forty inches on each side, getting close to the card-table estimate. A psychologist at the University of Toronto figured it would cover the floor of his living room (I haven't seen his living room), but the prize winning estimate so far is from the British magazine New Scientist's poster of the brain published in 1993 which claimed that the cerebral cortex, if flattened out, would cover a tennis court. How can there be such disagreement? How can so many experts not know how big the cortex is? I don't know, but I'm on the hunt for an expert who will say the cortex, when fully spread out, will cover a football field. A Canadian football field. ~ Jay Ingram
Tennis Court quotes by Jay Ingram
I'm no shrinking violet. I played hockey until half my teeth were knocked down my throat. And I'm extremely competitive on a tennis court ... But that experience at the slaughterhouse overwhelmed me. When I walked out of there, I knew I would never again harm an animal! I knew all the physiological, economic, and ecological arguments supporting vegetarianism, but it was firsthand experience of man's cruelty to animals that laid the real groundwork for my commitment to vegetarianism. ~ Peter Burwash
Tennis Court quotes by Peter Burwash
I'm more in that Rafa Nadal high-energy high-octane mold out there. I wear that emotion on the court. That's how I play my best tennis. People either like that or not. And I can't change that: that's who I am on a tennis court. ~ Lleyton Hewitt
Tennis Court quotes by Lleyton Hewitt
We're so happy, even when we're smiling out of fear. ~ Lorde
Tennis Court quotes by Lorde
Tennis, imprisoned within fixed boundaries, a patch of an acre, a green rectangle, tries the human soul. A tennis court is like a coffin, only larger. ~ Rita Mae Brown
Tennis Court quotes by Rita Mae Brown
I'm only superstitious on the tennis court. ~ Rafael Nadal
Tennis Court quotes by Rafael Nadal
From the outside, Rick Rubin's house above Zuma Beach is a generic millionaire beach home. There's a rarely used tennis court and a circular drive. ~ Stephen Rodrick
Tennis Court quotes by Stephen Rodrick
A golf course is for golf. A tennis court is for tennis. A prison camp is for escaping. ~ Pierre Fresnay
Tennis Court quotes by Pierre Fresnay
You know why I want to win? Because of 15,000 reasons inside of the tennis court. ~ Marat Safin
Tennis Court quotes by Marat Safin
An idea has no worth at all without believable characters to implement it; a plot without characters is like a tennis court without players. Daffy Duck is to a Buck Rogers story what John McEnroe was to tennis. Personality. That is the key, the drum, the fife. Forget the plot. ~ Chuck Jones
Tennis Court quotes by Chuck Jones
I got picked on a lot. I was a complete geek in school. I had braces. I didn't have the hot girlfriend. I wasn't ever sought after. I was a stocky, awkward kid who got laughed off the tennis court when I tried that. ~ Josh Brolin
Tennis Court quotes by Josh Brolin
We walked down the back stairwell into the garden where the old breakfast table used to be. 'This was my father's spot. I call it his ghost spot. My spot used to be over there, if you remember.' I pointed to where my old table used to stand by the pool.

'Did I have a spot?' he asked with a half grin.

'You'll always have a spot.'

I wanted to tell him that the pool, the garden, the house, the tennis court, the orle of paradise, the whole place, would always be his ghost spot. Instead, I pointed upstairs to the French windows of his room. Your eyes are forever there, I wanted to say, trapped in the sheer curtains, staring out from my bedroom upstairs where no one sleeps these days. When there's a breeze and they swell and I look up from down here or stand outside on the balcony, I'll catch myself thinking that you're in there, staring out from your world to my world, saying, as you did on that one night when I found you on the rock, I've been happy here. You're thousands of miles away but no sooner do I look at this window than I'll think of a bathing suit, a shirt thrown on on the fly, arms resting on the banister, and you're suddenly there, lighting up your first cigarette of the day - twenty years ago today. For as long as the house stands, this will be your ghost spot - and mine too, I wanted to say. ~ Andre Aciman
Tennis Court quotes by Andre Aciman
The diplomatic kids had a hectic sort of life, being constantly thrown from one end of the world to the other and always playing tennis, no matter who was being machine-gunned in the streets, you were always extraterritorial, history was not permitted to touch you, it was only buzzing around your tennis court in a bloody sort of way. You were so well protected that you went to pieces. Diplomatic immunity could do very strange things to you, it was like weightlessness. You had to remind yourself constantly that you actually existed, and you were not supposed to identify yourself too much with the suffering of whatever country you were posted to. But then, who needs reality anyway? ~ Romain Gary
Tennis Court quotes by Romain Gary
Whoever has played tennis knows the court is pretty big and you always have space to put the ball in. ~ Tomas Berdych
Tennis Court quotes by Tomas Berdych
There are people who love you and people who hate you, but for me, more so, people only think they know me by how I act or perform on a tennis court. ~ Lleyton Hewitt
Tennis Court quotes by Lleyton Hewitt
It's actually what I consider legalised cheating because one of the great senses that you have on a tennis court is your ability to hear the ball come off your opponent's strings [on Sharapova grunting ~ John Newcombe
Tennis Court quotes by John Newcombe
He'll go down as one of the guys who changed our sport in a lot of ways, not only the way he played the game, but also the way that he conducted himself on and off the court. ~ Lleyton Hewitt
Tennis Court quotes by Lleyton Hewitt
Acting with Denzel is like playing tennis with someone that's better than you. You either play better tennis or get blown off the court. ~ Dean Cain
Tennis Court quotes by Dean Cain
Typical human lungs pack in a surface bigger than a tennis court. ~ James Gleick
Tennis Court quotes by James Gleick
I'm as patient a father as I am on the tennis court. It takes a lot for me to get really upset, but sometimes kids can get you really cross if they really keep bugging you. ~ Roger Federer
Tennis Court quotes by Roger Federer
You don't need to know who's playing on the White House tennis court to be a good president. ~ James Baker
Tennis Court quotes by James Baker
I play better tennis because the court is there. ~ Robert Frost
Tennis Court quotes by Robert Frost
You don't go home and talk about the great tennis courts that you played, but you do talk about the golf courses you played. ~ Hank Ketcham
Tennis Court quotes by Hank Ketcham
Our Supreme Court is not a court of law. It is a court of conjecture and political fad. ~ A.E. Samaan
Tennis Court quotes by A.E. Samaan
You've just got to get over that mental hurdle and those battles in your own head during matches when things aren't going so well. It takes time. It's probably all things I already knew, but for someone to talk about it maybe in a different way makes you realise things. ~ Samantha Stosur
Tennis Court quotes by Samantha Stosur
I let my racket do the talking. That's what I am all about, really. I just go out and win tennis matches. ~ Pete Sampras
Tennis Court quotes by Pete Sampras
One has to abandon altogether the search for security, and reach out to the risk of living with both arms. One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing. ~ Morris L. West
Tennis Court quotes by Morris L. West
The great background question about the Labour governments of the sixties is whether with a stronger leader they could have gripped the country's big problems and dealt with them. How did it happen that a cabinet of such brilliant, such clever and self-confident people achieved so little? In part, it was the effect of the whirling court politics demonstrated by 'In Place of Strife'. ~ Andrew Marr
Tennis Court quotes by Andrew Marr
If we do our job right, the Supreme Court won't be made up of men and women who are on the side of the little guy or the big guy; rather, the Supreme Court will be made up of men and women who are on the side of the law and the Constitution. ~ Chuck Grassley
Tennis Court quotes by Chuck Grassley
Well, that night we had our show; but there warn't only about twelve people there – just enough to pay expenses. And they laughed all the time, and that made the duke mad; and everybody left, anyway, before the show was over, but one boy which was asleep. So the duke said these Arkansaw lunkheads couldn't come up to Shakespeare; what they wanted was low comedy – and maybe something ruther worse than low comedy, he reckoned. He said he could size their style. So next morning he got some big sheets of wrapping paper and some black paint, and drawed off some handbills, and stuck them up all over the village. The bills said:

AT THE COURT HOUSE!
FOR 3 NIGHTS ONLY!
The World-Renowned Tragedians
DAVID GARRICK THE YOUNGER!
AND
EDMUND KEAN THE ELDER!
Of the London and Continental Theatres,
In their Thrilling Tragedy of
THE KING'S CAMELEOPARD,
OR
THE ROYAL NONESUCH ! ! !
Admission 50 cents.
Then at the bottom was the biggest line of all, which said:

LADIES AND CHILDREN NOT ADMITTED.
"There," says he, "if that line don't fetch them, I don't know Arkansaw! ~ Mark Twain
Tennis Court quotes by Mark Twain
Life is like a tennis game. You can't win without serving. ~ Arthur Ashe
Tennis Court quotes by Arthur Ashe
The reasonableness of the agency of the national courts in cases in which the state tribunals cannot be supposed to be impartial, speaks for itself. No man ought certainly to be a judge in his own cause, or in any cause in respect to which he has the least interest or bias. ~ Alexander Hamilton
Tennis Court quotes by Alexander Hamilton
A gilded cage is still a cage ~ Supreme Court
Tennis Court quotes by Supreme Court
When Steve Wise told me that he intended to argue in court before a judge that an animal could be a "legal person," it seemed like a novel, possibly far-fetched idea, but the more I thought about it, the more I became intrigued. ~ Chris Hegedus
Tennis Court quotes by Chris Hegedus
Your father calls you to his court. You need not pack. You go garbed in glorious raiment. He waits eagerly by his palace doors to welcome you, and has prepared a place at the high table, by his side, in the company of the great-souled, honored, and best-beloved. ~ Lois McMaster Bujold
Tennis Court quotes by Lois McMaster Bujold
We shall lie down," Lincoln warned, "pleasantly dreaming that the people of Missouri are on the verge of making their State free; and we shall awake to the reality, instead, that the Supreme Court has made Illinois a slave State." Lincoln ~ Eric Foner
Tennis Court quotes by Eric Foner
I'm a different person off the court than I am on the court, where I'm very competitive, a perfectionist, and I can be hard on myself sometimes. Off the court, nothing really bothers me. I'm easy-going. ~ Mary Pierce
Tennis Court quotes by Mary Pierce
A plaintiff who comes into a Court of justice must show that he is in a condition to maintain his action. ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Tennis Court quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
In my lifetime, it's the Supreme Court, not Congress, that integrated our public schools, that allowed people of different races to marry, and established the principle that our government should respect the value of privacy of American families. These decisions are the legacy of justices who chose to expand American freedom. ~ Dick Durbin
Tennis Court quotes by Dick Durbin
The [ military ] lawyers I saw there had about as much in common with the man who had defended me at fifteen as automated machine rifle fire has with farting. They were cold, professionally polished and well on their way up a career ladder which would ensure that despite the uniforms they wore, they would never have to come within a thousand kilometres of a genuine firefight. The only problem they had, as they cruised sharkishly back and forth across the cool marble floor of the court, was in drawing the fine differences between war (mass murder of people wearing a uniform not your own), justifiable loss (mass murder of your own troops, but with substantial gains) and criminal negligence (mass murder of your own troops, without appreciable benefit). I sat in that courtroom for three weeks listening to them dress it like a variety of salads, and with every passing hour the distinctions, which at one point I'd been pretty clear on, grew increasingly vague. I suppose that proves how good they were. ~ Richard K. Morgan
Tennis Court quotes by Richard K. Morgan
Just love me now and i'll court you forever.. ~ Alvin Manuel
Tennis Court quotes by Alvin Manuel
Many American boys that fought in WWII had been sterilized under eugenic laws passed by the the United States Supreme Court under the 1927 case of Buck v. Bell. Over 80,000 Americans would be forcibly sterilized under that legal precedent. Coincidentally, Buck v Bell is also the legal precedent cited in Roe v. Wade, the famous abortion rights case. ~ A.E. Samaan
Tennis Court quotes by A.E. Samaan
There is no relief at it being over. There is the joy of winning it. ~ Steffi Graf
Tennis Court quotes by Steffi Graf
We'll have to manage this very carefully, Evie. From what I saw, it would appear that entire court wants you dead."
"Yeah, well, you know. Stopping their custom-made Empty One, stabbing their queen in the neck, breaking their mirror forest, I'm not really Miss Popularity there."
"Stabbing - You what?"
"Long story. Faerie? I'd really like to hang out with my boyfriend while he's, you know, conscious."
"Seconded," Lend shouted. ~ Kiersten White
Tennis Court quotes by Kiersten White
I want to stay here and think about the secret door.'
'You can think about it on the way. That's the beautiful thing about the secret door. You can open it anywhere, any time.'
In later years, the court ladies often laughed behind their fans at the Dauphin, saying cruelly that he could spend a whole day tapping his cane against his foot and staring into space. I knew, though, that he was building castles in the air. ~ Kate Forsyth
Tennis Court quotes by Kate Forsyth
And in that city Ferrante's rise began, at the outer edge of the Spanish court, where he learned that the virtue of sovereigns is their caprice, and Power is an insatiable monster, to be served with slavish devotion in order to snatch every crumb falling from that table. ~ Umberto Eco
Tennis Court quotes by Umberto Eco
I wouldn't want [gay marriage] to go to the United States Supreme Court now because that homophobe Antonin Scalia has too many votes on this current court. ~ Barney Frank
Tennis Court quotes by Barney Frank
I really try not to read the tennis articles, because a lot of times they're guessing at how a player is feeling, and I like to keep myself kind of open minded about how I'm feeling, rather than have someone else explain to me what's going on. ~ Jim Courier
Tennis Court quotes by Jim Courier
He remembered an old tale which his father was fond of telling him - the story of Eos Amherawdur (the Emperor Nightingale). Very long ago, the story began, the greatest and the finest court in all the realms of faery was the court of the Emperor Eos, who was above all the kings of the Tylwydd Têg, as the Emperor of Rome is head over all the kings of the earth. So that even Gwyn ap Nudd, whom they now call lord over all the fair folk of the Isle of Britain, was but the man of Eos, and no splendour such as his was ever seen in all the regions of enchantment and faery. Eos had his court in a vast forest, called Wentwood, in the deepest depths of the green-wood between Caerwent and Caermaen, which is also called the City of the Legions; though some men say that we should rather name it the city of the Waterfloods. Here, then, was the Palace of Eos, built of the finest stones after the Roman manner, and within it were the most glorious chambers that eye has ever seen, and there was no end to the number of them, for they could not be counted. For the stones of the palace being immortal, they were at the pleasure of the Emperor. If he had willed, all the hosts of the world could stand in his greatest hall, and, if he had willed, not so much as an ant could enter into it, since it could not be discerned. But on common days they spread the Emperor's banquet in nine great halls, each nine times larger than any that are in the lands of the men of Normandi. And Sir Caw was the seneschal ~ Arthur Machen
Tennis Court quotes by Arthur Machen
I love tennis with a passion. I challenged Boris Becker to a match once and he said he was up for it but he never called back. I bet I could make him run around. ~ Boris Johnson
Tennis Court quotes by Boris Johnson
When you want to court a woman, court her sister first ~ Stendhal
Tennis Court quotes by Stendhal
Watch out Mr. Bush! With the exception of economic policy and energy policy and social issues and tax policy and foreign policy and supreme court appointments and Rove-style politics, we're coming in there to shake things up! ~ Tom Toles
Tennis Court quotes by Tom Toles
The Reagan Administration has fostered a climate in which a barest majority of the Supreme Court caters to the passions and hatreds of the American mob, stripping away the constitutional shield outside our bedrooms ... How tragically ironic that an Administration that promised to get Government "off our backs" is now so active in draping Government gumshoes over every part of our anatomies. ~ Carl T. Rowan
Tennis Court quotes by Carl T. Rowan
You can't be considered a great player unless you win Wimbledon. That's the way it is. ~ Mats Wilander
Tennis Court quotes by Mats Wilander
We are at war, and in time of war there is only one rule. Form your battalion and fight. ~ Kermit Roosevelt III
Tennis Court quotes by Kermit Roosevelt III
He is totally dreamy Grace. You see that don't you?" Sarah gave me more Caylie learned lingo.
"Oh, don't I know. I just don't want anyone else dreaming about him."
"He's far from ugly Grace. He's gorgeous." I gave her a glare. She kept on, "I will tell you this because you are my friend. He is so gorgeous every girl in this court has fantasized about him, including me. But you don't see the way we see him look at you. The way he stops everything when you come in the room. They way his eyes pop when you speak the first time to him when you approach. It's how he breathes too Grace. He seems to hold his breath until you are close enough for him to touch. He is completely and utterly in love with you girl. ~ Cyndi Goodgame
Tennis Court quotes by Cyndi Goodgame
The court, as now constituted, would be meaningless without the jail which gives it its power. But if there is anything I have learned by being in jail, it is that prisons are wrong, simply and unqualifiedly wrong. ~ Barbara Deming
