We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives ... not looking for flaws, but for potential. ~ Ellen Goodman
New Year Reflection quotes by Ellen Goodman
When I was 13, I told my dad I wanted to move to Florida to attend the IMG Academy. I wanted to be a golfer, and that's hard to do in New England where I could only practice half the year. ~ Peter Uihlein
New Year Reflection quotes by Peter Uihlein
You can develop any habit or thought or behavior that you consider desirable or necessary. ~ Brian Tracy
New Year Reflection quotes by Brian Tracy
Without even trying to be a teacher,
Fredrika is teaching us,
Showing us how to see things in new ways
Instead of always thinking
The same old thoughts
That have been passed along by strangers
Day after day, year after year
Without any spirit of amazement
Or wonder, ~ Margarita Engle
New Year Reflection quotes by Margarita Engle
Begin every New Year a year ahead.
End every year three months ahead.
Watch your goals be achieved. ~ Richie Norton
New Year Reflection quotes by Richie Norton
I always work on New Year's Eve, no matter what. ~ Debbie Harry
New Year Reflection quotes by Debbie Harry
I wish you a very merry Christmas filled with abundance and a magnificent magical New Year. ~ Debasish Mridha
New Year Reflection quotes by Debasish Mridha
Stay away from what might have been, and look at what can be. ~ Marsha Petrie Sue
New Year Reflection quotes by Marsha Petrie Sue
I still had moments when my nerves got to me, but whenever I'd start to get anxious, Kyla Ross would remind me, "Simone, just do what you do in practice." And before I went out for each event, she'd high-five me and say, "Just like practice, Simone!" I'd say the same thing to her when it was her turn to go up. "Just like practice" became our catchphrase.
As I walked onto the mat to do my floor exercise, I held on to that phrase like it was a lifeline, because I was about to perform a difficult move I'd come up with in practice - a double flip in the layout position with a half twist out. The way it happened was, I'd landed short on a double layout full out earlier that year during training, and I'd strained my calf muscle on the backward landing. Aimee didn't want me to risk a more severe injury, so she suggested I do the double layout - body straight with legs together and fully extended as I flipped twice in the air - then add a half twist at the end. That extra half twist meant I'd have to master a very tricky blind forward landing, but it would put less stress on my calves.
I thought the new combination sounded incredibly cool, so I started playing around with it until I was landing the skill 95 percent of the time. At the next Nationals Camp, I demonstrated the move for Martha and she thought it looked really good, so we went ahead and added it to the second tumbling pass of my floor routine. I'd already performed the combination at national meets that year, bu ~ Simone Biles
New Year Reflection quotes by Simone Biles
The Way the Cards Fall "

Why did you stay away
so long? I've buried another
husband, since I last saw you
holding to the horizon.
I hear where you now live
it snows year-round.
The pear & apple trees
have even missed you–
dead branches scattered
about like war. Come closer,
my eyes have grown night-dim.
Across the field white boxes
of honeybees silent as dirt,
silent as your missent
postcards. Evening
sunlight's faded my hair,
the old stable's slouched
to the ground. I dug a hole
for that calico, Cyclops,
two years ago. Now
milkweed & blackberries
are keepers of the cornfield.
That's how the cards fall;
& Anna, that beautiful girl
you once loved enough
to die over & over again for,
now lives in New Orleans
on both sides
of Bourbon Street. ~ Yusef Komunyakaa
New Year Reflection quotes by Yusef Komunyakaa
Good habits are not made on birthdays, nor Christian character at the new year. The workshop of character is everyday life. The uneventful and commonplace hour is where the battle is lost or won. ~ Maltbie Davenport Babcock
New Year Reflection quotes by Maltbie Davenport Babcock
Starting to drink now in preparation for New Years. No more last minute stuff like Christmas. ~ Albert Brooks
New Year Reflection quotes by Albert Brooks
Even in the off season, people are streaming the show or buying the DVD sets, and new audience comes to 'Leverage' every year we've been doing it. ~ Timothy Hutton
New Year Reflection quotes by Timothy Hutton
Departure of a year welcomes so many new memories ~ Munia Khan
New Year Reflection quotes by Munia Khan
A Party for New Year (for Lily and Maisie, the ladies what lunch.)

Dear Lily,
I have bought something frilly,
to wear on New Year's Eve.
You may think it sounds rather silly,
and, what I tell you, you will never believe.

I met a woman in Primark, I know,
not my normal shop.
Just heard so much about it
inside I had to pop.

Well, the top I purchased, sparkles.
The frills upon it abound.
This woman I met in the changing room.
On me, she said it looked sound.

It's very, very silver you know.
A little bit like Lametta.
Oh Lily, I feel quite aglow.
On no one could it look any better.

Dear Maisie,
Things are looking a bit hazy.
A silver top, for New Year.
Are you really, really that crazy?
My word, you batty old dear.

I'm wearing my old faithful.
The black dress, with the gold trim.
It's not like we're doing anything special.
In fact proceedings sound quite grim.

Sitting on your old sofa
With a Baileys, if I'm lucky.
Watching the same old things on the box.
I'm not excited Ducky.

I want to be in the city
and feel the atmosphere.
It really is a pity
that you want to stay right here.

Dear Lily.
Now you are being silly.
What about your knees?
Standing about, feeling chilly,
and moaning you're going to freeze.

Much better to stay ~ Ann Perry
New Year Reflection quotes by Ann Perry
It felt good to scrub my skin, as if I was removing everything that felt dead about me. I was the "queen of skin care." Who knew that simply exfoliating my skin until raw (which I knew better than to do but now couldn't resist) would one day be what was left of my skin care regimen? My daily cleansing and moisturizing, weekly hydrating and purifying masks, along with monthly photo facials, glycolic peels, or microdermabrasion, was down to "super-scrub Saturdays." Pampering was a thing of the past. No more sunscreen applications to guard against the "UVAging" rays that were out to get me 365 days a year. No more weekly Epsom salts hot baths to detox my body, or lathering up with my favorite vanilla-scented moisturizing cream. No more applications of extra virgin olive oil to the ends of my hair to prevent splitting. I didn't even treat myself to my bedtime chamomile tea. All that had been replaced by a new nightly ritual of passing out on the bed, face down, which went against my cardinal rule of youth maintenance. Before the deep hollow pain was born inside me, I slept on my back, at the perfect thirty-degree angle to ensure proper circulation and prevention of any unnecessary creasing or wrinkling. ~ Cari Kamm
New Year Reflection quotes by Cari Kamm
Every year we find something new, we go faster, and that's what Formula One is about . ~ Michael Schumacher
New Year Reflection quotes by Michael Schumacher
You have a whole new year ahead of you & it will be great if you choose to be a little more gentle, loving, kind, meaningful, spellbinding & angelic in your deeds, reactions, thoughts & words. Let you continuously do the next level stuff making your world smile on all the days of your existence. Let you soon receive everything for which you have been working patiently, honestly & wholeheartedly in the last year. Let the indefinable, unconquerable, imperishable, immutable keep protecting & guiding you all along unfamiliar paths. Let He always go before you & remove all the obstacles that stand in your way to happiness & success in this year. Stay Blessed & Keep Doing Your Best Always! ~ Rajesh Goyal
New Year Reflection quotes by Rajesh Goyal
What I'd really like to do is do a film or two a year and then do theater in New York the rest of the year. ~ Piper Perabo
New Year Reflection quotes by Piper Perabo
I did a concert at five years old in the garden of one of the church members, and we raised some money to buy a new piano in our little church. ~ Al Jarreau
New Year Reflection quotes by Al Jarreau
The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all. ~ Josiyah Martin
New Year Reflection quotes by Josiyah Martin
This bright new year is given me ~ William Arthur Ward
New Year Reflection quotes by William Arthur Ward
I love my job here. I appreciate all your support with my efforts, and it's been exciting to see the results. As you know, business is up twenty percent over last year at this time [hand her the memo sheet now]. I'd like you to consider changing my title to [fill in the blank] and taking my salary up to [fill in blank]. I'd really like to show you what I could do in this new role. ~ Kate White
New Year Reflection quotes by Kate White
I believe in living life the way that you want to live it every day, and if you do that, you don't really need to have New Year's resolutions. ~ Tom Ford
New Year Reflection quotes by Tom Ford
Going to a party, for me, is as much a learning experience as, you know, sitting in a lecture. ~ Natalie Portman
New Year Reflection quotes by Natalie Portman
The first year was weird. I knew I was just there to talk to pitchers and not step on any toes. I could feel my adrenaline start to flow in about the sixth inning. I had to tell myself, "What the hell are you getting excited about? You're not going anywere, big boy. Just go sign some autographs." I was still programmed. ~ Goose Gossage
New Year Reflection quotes by Goose Gossage
Even if there is no connection between diversity and international influence, some people would argue that immigration brings cultural enrichment. This may seem to be an attractive argument, but the culture of Americans remains almost completely untouched by millions of Hispanic and Asian immigrants. They may have heard of Cinco de Mayo or Chinese New Year, but unless they have lived abroad or have studied foreign affairs, the white inhabitants of Los Angeles are likely to have only the most superficial knowledge of Mexico or China despite the presence of many foreigners.
Nor is it immigrants who introduce us to Cervantes, Puccini, Alexander Dumas, or Octavio Paz. Real high culture crosses borders by itself, not in the back pockets of tomato pickers, refugees, or even the most accomplished immigrants. What has Yo-Yo Ma taught Americans about China? What have we learned from Seiji Ozawa or Ichiro about Japan? Immigration and the transmission of culture are hardly the same thing. Nearly every good-sized American city has an opera company, but that does not require Italian immigrants.
Miami is now nearly 70 percent Hispanic, but what, in the way of authentic culture enrichment, has this brought the city? Are the art galleries, concerts, museums, and literature of Los Angeles improved by diversity? Has the culture of Detroit benefited from a majority-black population? If immigration and diversity bring cultural enrichment, why do whites move out of those very parts of t ~ Jared Taylor
New Year Reflection quotes by Jared Taylor
I was born in New York City. But my family moved when I was still an infant. Except for a year and half when we lived in Youngstown, Ohio, I grew up in small towns in Pennsylvania. I graduated from high school in Farrell, Pennsylvania. ~ E.L. Konigsburg
New Year Reflection quotes by E.L. Konigsburg
In 1978 I decided not to work with Man Ray as an act of self-discipline. I didn't want to rely on him. Man Ray hated not working, though. He would come into my studio, see me drawing or working on photographs, and just slump down at my feet with a big sigh. Fortunately for both of us the year ended. Polaroid had invented a new camera, the twenty-by-twenty-four, and I was invited to Cambridge, Mass., to experiment with it. Naturally, I took Man Ray and we were working again. ~ William Wegman
New Year Reflection quotes by William Wegman
Historical fact: People stopped being people in 1913. That was the year Henry Ford put his cars on rollers and made his workers adopt the speed of the assembly line. At first, workers rebelled. They quit in droves, unable to accustom their bodies to the new pace of the age. Since then, however, the adaptation has been passed down: we've all inherited it to some degree, so that we plug right into joy-sticks and remotes, to repetitive motions of a hundred kinds. ~ Jeffrey Eugenides
New Year Reflection quotes by Jeffrey Eugenides
I attended an extremely small liberal arts school. There were approximately 1,600 of us roaming our New England campus on a good day. My high school was bigger. My freshman year hourly calorie intake was bigger. ~ Sloane Crosley
New Year Reflection quotes by Sloane Crosley
I don't really do New Year's resolutions because I don't think you should have to wait until December to start working on how to change yourself. I think if you've got a problem, you need to fix it now. ~ Clay Aiken
New Year Reflection quotes by Clay Aiken
In the new year take the leap,
leap from the negative thoughts to positive thoughts,
leap from despair to hope,
leap from anger to peace,
leap from hurt to forgiveness,
leap from toxic people to kindred souls,
in the new year take the leap of love. ~ Drishti Bablani
New Year Reflection quotes by Drishti Bablani
A three billion year old planet floating in the vast universe with mountains, seventy percent seas and oceans, fertile lands, immense forests, rivers and lakes, sea shores and deserts, this is where we humans have the privilege to live, the latest, most advanced newcomers in evolution. What an immense, incredible responsibility we have to be a right, positive element in the further evolution of that planet. That is the big question before us in the new century and millennium. ~ Robert Muller
New Year Reflection quotes by Robert Muller
Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it. ~ Neil Gaiman
New Year Reflection quotes by Neil Gaiman
The population, who are, ultimately, indifferent to public affairs and even to their own interests, negotiate this indifference with an equally spectral partner and one that is similarly indifferent to its own will: the government [Ie pouvoir] . This game between zombies may stabilize in the long term. The Year 2000 will not take place in that an era of indifference to time itself - and therefore to the symbolic term of the millennium - will be ushered in by negotiation.

Nowadays, you have to go straight from money to money, telegraphically so to speak, by direct transfer (that is the viral side of the matter). A viral revolution, then, more akin to the Glass Bead Game than to the steam engine, and admirably personified in Bernard Tapie's playboy face. For the look of money is reflected in faces. Gone are the hideous old capitalists, the old-style industrial barons wearing the masks of the suffering they have inflicted. Now there are only dashing playboys, sporty and sexual, true knights of industry, wearing the mask of the happiness they spread all around themselves.

The world put on a show of despair after 1968. It's been putting on a big show of hope since 1980. No more tears, alright? Reaganite optimism, the pump ing up of the dollar. Fabius's glossy new look. Patriotic conviviality. Reluctance prohibited. The old pessimism was produced by the idea that things were getting worse and worse. The new pessimism is produced by the fact that everything i ~ Jean Baudrillard
New Year Reflection quotes by Jean Baudrillard
So that's why I said, if you look at the average, you would see the money New York got this year was in line with the average across the prior three years and substantially more, by a country mile, than the money given to any other city. ~ Michael Chertoff
New Year Reflection quotes by Michael Chertoff
A merry Christmas to everybody! A happy New Year to the world! ~ Charles Dickens
New Year Reflection quotes by Charles Dickens
Last year, Congress gave the Department of Defense the authority to design a new civilian personnel system for its employees as part of the defense authorization bill. ~ Norm Dicks
New Year Reflection quotes by Norm Dicks
The New Year, the New Year. Everywhere the New Year! The Old Year was already looked upon as dead; and its effects were selling cheap, like some drowned mariner's aboardship. Its patterns were Last Year's, and going at a sacrifice, before its breath was gone. Its treasures were mere dirt, beside the riches of its unborn successor! ~ Charles Dickens
New Year Reflection quotes by Charles Dickens
He has drawn back, only in order to have enough room for his leap ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
New Year Reflection quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
It was the oldest friends who mattered most. With each passing year, Paulette realized this more deeply. She thought of her borther Roy, retired to Arizona, to golf with other men who were also - she loathed the expression - senior citizens. Roy had arrived in Phoenix with an entire life behind him, a career, a marriage; to his new friends he'd always be old. ~ Jennifer Haigh
New Year Reflection quotes by Jennifer Haigh
Oona stopped trusting the mirror years ago. After all it told only a sliver of the story. The mirror exposed time's passage, yes, but eclipsed her heart's true mileage. Each year the body was hers but her mind was out of sync with her reflection. ~ Margarita Montimore
New Year Reflection quotes by Margarita Montimore
Will the rich continue to be rich in the New Year? Will the poor continue to be poor in the New Year? Then for god's sake how on earth the New Year will be called as new? ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
New Year Reflection quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
[E]very man hath liberty to write, but few ability. Heretofore learning was graced by judicious scholars, but now noble sciences are vilified by base and illiterate scribblers, that either write for vain-glory, need, to get money, or as Parasites to flatter and collogue with some great men, they put out trifles, rubbish and trash. Among so many thousand Authors you shall scarce find one by reading of whom you shall be any whit better, but rather much worse; by which he is rather infected than any way perfected…

What a catalogue of new books this year, all his age (I say) have our Frankfurt Marts, our domestic Marts, brought out. Twice a year we stretch out wits out and set them to sale; after great toil we attain nothing…What a glut of books! Who can read them? As already, we shall have a vast Chaos and confusion of Books, we are oppressed with them, our eyes ache with reading, our fingers with turning. For my part I am one of the number - one of the many - I do not deny it... ~ Robert Burton
New Year Reflection quotes by Robert Burton
You staying home all alone on New Year's Eve? Unthinkable. Take my advice ... the countdown should be shared with someone, or it's just another set of numbers passing you by. ~ E.A. Bucchianeri
New Year Reflection quotes by E.A. Bucchianeri
One of the many reasons I love living in New York is that we get a front row seat to the innumerable thrills that take place here - from conventions and awards shows, to parades and U.N. assemblies. But my favorite New York tradition is the annual New Year's Eve ball-drop on Times Square. ~ Marlo Thomas
