Kelly and I had to take our turns to work the concessions stand at the games. We would always try to work our designated duties together. If you've ever assembled a hundred hot dogs after a game, you know things can get pretty hectic behind that concessions counter. Kelly and I would slap those orders together as fast as we could, but keep in mind this was not either of our fortes. Did the guy in the green jacket order a hot dog or a burger? Did that lady say "diet" or did I imagine it? We often held our breath when the person left, wondering if he would discover in short order that what he asked for was not at all what he received from the inept concession stand staff. Big crowds of of hungry basketball fans made us nervous, and Kelly and I often made a mess filling their orders. One time I got impatient with the ketchup bottle, as I kept banging on the bottom of it and nothing was coming out. All of the sudden, half the bottled spewed out in this huge blob, and I looked like a bloody accident victim the rest of the night! ~ Lynne Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Spears
Eddie Murphy was the Michael Jordan of comedy. He had a full range of abilities. ~ Aries Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Aries Spears
If a Martian came down to Earth and watched television, he'd come to conclusion that all the world's society is based on Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. He'd be amazed that our society hasn't collapsed. ~ Michio Kaku
Lynne Spears quotes by Michio Kaku
The rule is: the word 'it's' (with apostrophe) stands for 'it is' or 'it has'. If the word does not stand for 'it is' or 'it has' then what you require is 'its'. This is extremely easy to grasp. Getting your itses mixed up is the greatest solecism in the world of punctuation. No matter that you have a PhD and have read all of Henry James twice. If you still persist in writing, 'Good food at it's best', you deserve to be struck by lightning, hacked up on the spot and buried in an unmarked grave. ~ Lynne Truss
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Truss
I think many writers really believe that being published is a traumatic experience. ~ Lynne Tillman
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Tillman
Was a soldier's tent of heavy canvas, dyed the dark yellow that sometimes passed for gold. Only the royal banner that streamed atop the center pole marked it as a king's. That, and the guards without; queen's men leaning on tall spears, with the badge of the fiery heart sewn over their own. Grooms came up to help them dismount. One of the guards relieved Melisandre of her cumbersome standard, driving the staff deep into the soft ground. Devan stood to one side of the door, waiting to lift the flap for ~ George R R Martin
Lynne Spears quotes by George R R Martin
And, Legolas, when the torches are kindled and men walk on the sandy floors under the echoing domes, ah! Then, Legolas, gems and crystals and veins of precious ore glint in the polished walls; and the light glows through folded marbles, shell-like, translucent as the living hands of Queen Galadriel. There are columns of white and saffron and dawn-rose, Legolas, fluted and twisted into dreamlike forms; they spring up from many-coloured floors to meet the glistening pendants of the roof: wings, ropes, curtains fine as frozen clouds; spears, banners, pinnacles of suspended palaces! Still lakes mirror them: a glimmering world looks up from dark pools covered with clear glass; cities, such as the mind of Durin could scarce have imagined in his sleep, stretch on through avenues and pillared courts, on into the dark recesses where no light can come, And plink! A silver drop falls, and the round wrinkles in the glass make all the towers bend and waver like weeds and corals in a grotto of the sea. Then evening comes:" they fade and twinkle out; the torches pass on into another chamber and another dream. There is chamber after chamber, Legolas; hall opening out of hall, dome after dome, stair beyond stair; and still the winding paths lead on into the mountains' heart. Caves! The Caverns of Helm's Deep! Happy was the chance that drove me there! It makes me weep to leave them. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Lynne Spears quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Live for everything, or die for nothing ~ Nate Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Nate Spears
[Ed Murrow] admitted he was having trouble coming to grips with the idea of peace: "Trying to realize what has happened, one's mind takes refuge in the past. The war that was seems more real than the peace that has come. ~ Lynne Olson
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Olson
I was an opening act for 10 years. ~ Shelby Lynne
Lynne Spears quotes by Shelby Lynne
So what happened to the comma in this process? Well, between the 16th century and the present day, it became a kind of scary grammatical sheepdog. As we shall shortly see, the comma has so many jobs as a 'separator' (punctuation marks are traditionally either 'separators' or 'terminators') that it tears about on the hillside of language, endlessly organising words into sensible groups and making them stay put: sorting and dividing; circling and herding; and of course darting off with a peremptory 'woof' to round up any wayward subordinate clause that makes a futile bolt for semantic freedom. Commas, if you don't whistle at them to calm down, are unstoppably enthusiastic at this job. Luckily the trend in the 20th century (starting with H. W. Fowler's The King's English in 1906) has been towards ever-simpler punctuation, with fewer and fewer commas; but take any passage from a non-contemporary writer and you can't help seeing the constituent words as so many defeated sheep that have been successfully corralled with the gate slammed shut by good old Comma the Sheepdog. ~ Lynne Truss
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Truss
Women were responsible for raising next generation of citizens, they themselves needed to be well educated in order to teach their children. She never believed as many men of her time, women were innately inferior to men, she conceded they had different traits and talents, which fitted them for a social role different from men's. ...Marriage and family were among the basic props of social order, anything that undermined them threatened the social order, she believed. Rich or poor, male or female, every person had his place in society and must fulfill his roles and duties, or chaos would result. ...However brilliant a woman's talents may be, she ought never to shine at the expense of her husband. ...women should confine themselves to domestic government... ~ Lynne Withey
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Withey
Britney Spears is definitely my favorite past Candie's girl; her campaigns were gorgeous. ~ Lea Michele
Lynne Spears quotes by Lea Michele
I don't want to pierce anything. I think it's outdated. Belly rings and all are, like, old. ~ Britney Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Britney Spears
When you see an obstacle approaching, grab your courage and speed up. ~ Angela Lynne Craig
Lynne Spears quotes by Angela Lynne Craig
Using the comma well announces that you have an ear for sense and rhythm, confidence in your style and a proper respect for your reader, ~ Lynne Truss
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Truss
We do not select the stories we write, we do not pick the voices. They take us by surprise and we surrender to them. They write us, they write in us, all over us, through us. They occupy us. We are, in a sense, puppets--to language, with language. ~ Lynne Tillman
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Tillman
Long ago, darkness reigned over the night. People were afraid and remained inside their shelters from sundown until sunrise. The goddess Selene saw their fear and gave light to their nocturnal world by driving her moon chariot across the starry sky. She followed her brother Helios, who rode the sun and caught his shining rays on her magnificent silver chariot, then cast them down to earth as moonbeams. She felt pride in the way the earthlings were comforted by her light.
But one night when she had abandoned her chariot to walk upon the earth, she noticed that in times of trouble many people lost all hope. Their despair bewildered her. After considering their plight, she knew how she could make her moon the greatest gift from the gods.
From then on she drove around the earth and each night caught her brother's rays from a different angle. This way the face of the moon was everchanging. People watched the moon decrease in light every night, until it could no longer be seen from the earth. Then after three nights of darkness, a crescent sliver returned and the moon increased in light until it was fully illuminated as before. Selene did this to remind people that their darkest times can lead them to their brightest.
The ancients understood Selene's gift in the lunar phases. Each night when they gazed at the moon, they knew Selene was telling them to never give up hope. ~ Lynne Ewing
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Ewing
I was singing before I could talk. ~ Shelby Lynne
Lynne Spears quotes by Shelby Lynne
If we, on our most fundamental level, are packets of quantum energy constantly exchanging information with this heaving energy sea, it means that all of us connect with each other and the world at the level of the very undercoat of our being. It also means that we have the power to access much more information about the world than we realize. ~ Lynne McTaggart
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne McTaggart
Give me a Japanese division armed with bamboo spears and I'll wipe out the entire Russian Far Eastern Army. ~ Sadao Araki
Lynne Spears quotes by Sadao Araki
Clicking on "send" has its limitations as a system of subtle communication. Which is why, of course, people use so many dashes and italics and capitals ("I AM joking!") to compensate. That's why they came up with the emoticon, too - the emoticon being the greatest (or most desperate, depending how you look at it) advance in punctuation since the question mark in the reign of Charlemagne.

You will know all about emoticons. Emoticons are the proper name for smileys. And a smiley is, famously, this:

: - )

Forget the idea of selecting the right words in the right order and channelling the reader's attention by means of artful pointing. Just add the right emoticon to your email and everyone will know what self-expressive effect you thought you kind-of had in mind. Anyone interested in punctuation has a dual reason to feel aggrieved about smileys, because not only are they a paltry substitute for expressing oneself properly; they are also designed by people who evidently thought the punctuation marks on the standard keyboard cried out for an ornamental function. What's this dot-on-top-of-a-dot thing for? What earthly good is it? Well, if you look at it sideways, it could be a pair of eyes. What's this curvy thing for? It's a mouth, look! Hey, I think we're on to something.

Now it's sad!

Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Truss
It was so simple in the old days. You put out an album, people promoted it, it got in the charts, and you had a hit. ~ Jeff Lynne
Lynne Spears quotes by Jeff Lynne
Pretentious and over-active semicolons have reached epidemic proportions in the world of academe, where they are used to gloss over imprecise thought. ~ Lynne Truss
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Truss
Archer pressed a preset button on my car radio. An old Britney Spears song blared, and I sung along to every word, bopping in my seat. Archer just looked at me.

"Oh, come on!" I said. "Who doesn't sing along to Britney? ~ Elise Allen
Lynne Spears quotes by Elise Allen
Cole smiled. "Love you," he whispered softly. "I'll be back soon to show you how much. ~ Victoria Lynne
Lynne Spears quotes by Victoria Lynne
I always said if I ever get married, I would tell my woman - I love Michael Jordan, I am a Michael Jordan fanatic - I said, 'Michael Jordan is the only athlete you can sleep with and I wouldn't get mad, as long as you got something signed. You gotta bring back a ball, a hat or something. You can't just give away that sh*t for free.' ~ Aries Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Aries Spears
There's a lot of active radical thought today but not much action. ~ Lynne Stewart
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Stewart
Do not worry about your problems with mathematics, I assure you mine are far greater. Albert Einstein. ~ Lynne Barasch
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Barasch
I'm particularly committed to the political people who needed defense. I understand that they're fighting a bigger war than just, "Let me go get some money for cocaine tonight." ~ Lynne Stewart
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Stewart
The desire to catch, as Bonnard hoped, the PASSING MOMENT is antithetical to being in the moment. The photographer is an observer to others' moments. The Picture People have dedicated themselves to this paradox, and consign themselves on either side of the equation. ~ Lynne Tillman
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Tillman
Don't let doubt steal your dreams. ~ Lynne St. James
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne St. James
I want to be an artist that everyone can relate to, that's young, happy and fun. ~ Britney Spears

The symbolism in any kind of dance allows for recall, reenactment, and reexperience of events for purposes of resisting, reducing, transforming, and escaping stress. ~ Judith Lynne Hanna
Lynne Spears quotes by Judith Lynne Hanna
There are people who embrace the Oxford comma and those who don't, and I'll just say this: never get between these people when drink has been taken. ~ Lynne Truss
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Truss

Lynne Spears quotes by Britney Spears
Everything happens for a reason, it's up to you to
determine the reason it happened.
- Nate Spears ~ Nate Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Nate Spears
In the interweave of mind and body, dance is a mode that allows people to work through difficulties, anticipate the future, recollect the past, and confront the present. ~ Judith Lynne Hanna
Lynne Spears quotes by Judith Lynne Hanna
She'd been prepared for him to say he was too old, she must put away that sweet but impractical idea, they would forget all about it and go back to being good friends. She had almost hoped he would say that; it would forestall the complication and entanglement, yet leave her with a grief to harbor, sad but tender, grief like a secret, soothing companion. But this! There was nothing soothing about this. ~ Lynne Sharon Schwartz
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Sharon Schwartz
The 1980's witnessed a new dance genre in New York City and Los Angeles. Slam Dancing was perhaps a way for adolescent males to deal with the stressors of maturation, aggressive personal feelings, and violence in the society at large. Through dancing, the youths expressed raw power and rage while achieving euphoria, enhanced self-concept, and a healthy fatigue. ~ Judith Lynne Hanna
Lynne Spears quotes by Judith Lynne Hanna
Britney Spears' album Blackout is one of the hottest-selling CDs in the country. We're in a bad place, people: The world is melting, we're at war, and Two and a Half Men is a huge hit. ~ Chelsea Handler
Lynne Spears quotes by Chelsea Handler

Lynne Spears quotes by J.W. Lynne
Life is what you make it, death is how you take it.
-Nate Spears ~ Nate Spears
Lynne Spears quotes by Nate Spears
I have N'Sync and Aerosmith and Britney Spears. I have a trifecta from hell. ~ Lewis Black
Lynne Spears quotes by Lewis Black
I was crazy. I was broken. I was dead.
And then, one day I wasn't. It took months and it took grace and it took some unexpected slight shift of sadness that slipped just enough, just barely enough to make room for beauty. ~ Lynne Branard
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Branard
I do think we think repetitively. It's so hard to get certain thoughts out of your head. If you're angry at a friend, you're going to keep going back to that conversation. ~ Lynne Tillman
Lynne Spears quotes by Lynne Tillman
You are wrong," says the man. His voice is low and resonant. The metal walls of the dome, all the knives and swords and spears, all seem to vibrate with each of his words. "Your rulers and their propaganda have sold you this watered-down conceit of war, of a warrior yoked to the whims of civilization. Yet for all their self-professed civility, your rulers will gladly spend a soldier's life to better aid their posturing, to keep the cost of a crude good low. They will send the children of others off to die and only think upon it later to grandly and loudly memorialize them, lauding their great sacrifice. Civilization is but the adoption of this cowardly method of murder. ~ Robert Jackson Bennett
