Family caregiving has become a predictable crisis. Americans are living longer and longer but dying slower and slower. ~ Gail Sheehy
Living Longer quotes by Gail Sheehy
We got a plague of people, a disease of people infesting the world. We got more people who are living longer. Less people have to be born, that's the answer. We got death control - we got to match it with birth control. ~ Harry Harrison
Living Longer quotes by Harry Harrison
Meanwhile, the reality is that living longer in our ever-more-unequal society is very much a class thing: life expectancy at age 65 has risen a lot among the affluent, but hardly at all in the bottom half of the wage distribution, that is, among those who need Social Security most. ~ Anonymous
Living Longer quotes by Anonymous
People are living longer than ever before, a phenomenon undoubtedly made necessary by the 30-year mortgage. ~ Doug Larson
Living Longer quotes by Doug Larson
Our society has changed in unforeseeable ways since Social Security was created. For example, we are living longer, healthier, and more productive lives and while this is all great news, this has also placed added pressure on America's retirement system. ~ Norm Coleman
Living Longer quotes by Norm Coleman
The fact that healthier lifestyles and advances in medicine mean that we are living longer is actually something to be celebrated. ~ Nicola Sturgeon
Living Longer quotes by Nicola Sturgeon
Demography is changing us as we are older societies, we're living longer. How the generations balance each other out, how that affects education and health care. ~ Howard Baker
Living Longer quotes by Howard Baker
If there are healthy - and growing - numbers of people working and paying taxes, we are better able to pay the costs of people living longer. ~ Nicola Sturgeon
Living Longer quotes by Nicola Sturgeon
A twenty-three-year-long study in Ohio determined that people who saw growing older as something positive lived a whopping seven and a half years longer than those who didn't. (356) ~ Victoria Moran
Living Longer quotes by Victoria Moran
By almost any measure, the world is better than it has ever been. People are living longer, healthier lives. Many nations that were aid recipients are now self-sufficient. You might think that such striking progress would be widely celebrated, but in fact, Melinda and I are struck by how many people think the world is getting worse. The belief that the world can't solve extreme poverty and disease isn't just mistaken. It is harmful. That's why in this year's letter we take apart some of the myths that slow down the work. The next time you hear these myths, we hope you will do the same. ~ Bill Gates
Living Longer quotes by Bill Gates
We all understand that we are living longer, and we are more likely to spend more years as frail, elderly people who can't work. We also recognize that the wonderful advances in medicine also come with wonderful price tags. Those are things you can't budget around. ~ Elizabeth Warren
Living Longer quotes by Elizabeth Warren
By 2014, Reed had calculated, a city of a million people, the tenth largest city in the United States, would be serviced by 1,600 public workers. "There is no way to run a city with that level of staffing," he said. "You start to ask: What is a city? Why do we bother to live together? But that's just the start." The problem was going to grow worse until, as he put it, "you get to one." A single employee to service the entire city, presumably with a focus on paying pensions. "I don't know how far out you have to go until you get to one," said Reed, "but it isn't all that far." At that point, if not before, the city would be nothing more than a vehicle to pay the retirement costs of its former workers. The only clear solution was if former city workers up and died, soon. But former city workers were, blessedly, living longer than ever. This ~ Michael Lewis
Living Longer quotes by Michael Lewis
The concept of retirement is still so new to our society, because, for the most part, we are stepping away from our careers earlier and living longer. For example, in 1940 the average age of retirement was seventy, but the average life expectancy was only sixty-two. Today the average age for retirement is sixty-two, and the average life expectancy is seventy-seven!2 ~ Bill Schultheis
Living Longer quotes by Bill Schultheis
In life, most short cuts end up taking longer than taking the longer route. ~ Suzy Kassem
Living Longer quotes by Suzy Kassem
We are keeping healthier and living longer and I am a good example of someone who is in the Age Concern bracket but is still working and keeping active. ~ Susan Hampshire
Living Longer quotes by Susan Hampshire
Let me tell you exactly what we would do on Social Security. Yes, we'd raise the retirement age two years and phase it in over 25 years; that means we'd raise it one month a year for 25 years when we're all living longer, and living better lives. ~ Chris Christie
Living Longer quotes by Chris Christie
Don't make the mistake of doing nothing. Standing still is not an acceptable option. You can be like a deer on the highway caught in the headlights--freezing in your tracks until life passes you by--or you can move. If you move, you increase the odds of living longer and better. ~ Art E. Berg
Living Longer quotes by Art E. Berg
I don't mind being older. I'm proud of my age. I've achieved a lot. It's the same thing with Mick and the Stones. They should be revered and respected. Isn't it strange that now we're living longer we have so much less respect for old age? Perhaps it's a less valuable commodity? ~ Jerry Hall
Living Longer quotes by Jerry Hall
We don't beat the reaper by living longer, we beat the reaper by living well and living fully. ~ Randy Pausch
Living Longer quotes by Randy Pausch
While prosperity and longevity arrive together, they cannot be treated the same. With greater wealth, people in Asia may not have to work as many hours as they do now. But living longer means they will have to work more years, not fewer. ~ Sri Mulyani Indrawati
Living Longer quotes by Sri Mulyani Indrawati
Baby Boomers are now living longer and want to stay vibrant and gorgeous for as long as possible. I've identified a need for women to learn the basics of a healthy, holistic, daily regimen, which will bring a healthy glow to their skin. It's all about allowing our true self to shine, both literally through our skin and metaphorically through our soul. ~ Sophie Heyman Uliano
Living Longer quotes by Sophie Heyman Uliano
Well, if I use Hispanic culture I get corruption and really good salsa music. If I use Chinese culture I get rigid thinking and decent Szechwan. If I use Islamic culture I get ... not damned much of anything. And ditto for Africa although at least the rhythm is good and you can dance to it. But if I use Western European Culture I get industry, higher standards of living, longer lifespans and a generally happier society. Damn, I think I'll just have to go with WesternCiv even if I do have to put up with the Lutherans. ~ John Ringo
Living Longer quotes by John Ringo
He thought of the old commonplace about how giving up vices didn't make you live longer, but just made it feel as though you were living longer. ~ John Connolly
Living Longer quotes by John Connolly
Older actors, and women in particular, are getting more opportunities. It pleases me, its very good news for us. They say that people are living longer, and maybe it's just that there's more of us out there. ~ Christopher Walken
Living Longer quotes by Christopher Walken
You know that old joke about the guy who lives to be 104? The punch line goes something like 'If I knew I was gonna get this old, I'd have taken much better care of myself.' Well, guess what? We actually are living longer, and the time to start taking care of ourselves is right this minute. ~ Oprah Winfrey
Living Longer quotes by Oprah Winfrey
You could say people are living longer because of the decline in religion. Not many people believe in the hereafter, so they keep going. ~ Cyril Clarke
Living Longer quotes by Cyril Clarke
A few conclusions become clear when we understand this: that our most cruel failure in how we treat the sick and the aged is the failure to recognize that they have priorities beyond merely being safe and living longer; that the chance to shape one's story is essential to sustaining meaning in life; that we have the opportunity to refashion our institutions, our culture, and our conversations in ways that transform the possibilities for the last chapters of everyone's lives. ~ Atul Gawande
Living Longer quotes by Atul Gawande
The quality of health care continues to improve, and people are living longer, but these developments mean that we're likely to eventually find ourselves in a situation in which we're forced to make difficult choices about our parents, other loved ones, or even ourselves that ultimately boil down to calculations of worth and value. ~ Sheena Iyengar
Living Longer quotes by Sheena Iyengar
We eat healthy because we want to feel healthy - fantasies of living longer should not trump the importance of living stronger. ~ Jason Manheim
Living Longer quotes by Jason Manheim
they have priorities beyond merely being safe and living longer; that the chance to shape one's story is essential to sustaining meaning in life; that we have the opportunity to refashion our institutions, our culture, and our conversations in ways that transform the possibilities for the last chapters of everyone's lives. Inevitably, ~ Atul Gawande
Living Longer quotes by Atul Gawande
Since people are going to be living longer and getting older, they'll just have to learn how to be babies longer. ~ Andy Warhol
Living Longer quotes by Andy Warhol
We have been so successful in the past century at the art of living longer and staying alive that we have forgotten how to die. Too often we learn the hard way. As soon as the baby boomers pass pensionable age, their lesson will be harsher still. ~ Terry Pratchett
Living Longer quotes by Terry Pratchett
We are paying the price for living longer, collecting degenerative diseases along the way. Cancer is only one. Others are heart and brain diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinsons. ~ Aaron Ciechanover
Living Longer quotes by Aaron Ciechanover
When the days become longer and there is more sunshine, the grass becomes fresh and, consequently, we feel very happy. On the other hand, in autumn, one leaf falls down and another leaf falls down. The beautiful plants become as if dead and we do not feel very happy. Why? I think it is because deep down our human nature likes construction, and does not like destruction. Naturally, every action which is destructive is against human nature. Constructiveness is the human way. Therefore, I think that in terms of basic human feeling, violence is not good. Non-violence is the only way. ~ Dalai Lama
Living Longer quotes by Dalai Lama
You were right and I was wrong. When life hurts more than death, it is not worth living. ~ Anne Fortier
Living Longer quotes by Anne Fortier
[on Halloween]
Shaya could hear the clump-clump-clump of their mother's feet on the stairs. When she appeared in the living room doorway, neither Shaya nor Dev could speak.
"Oh, gosh," Shaya finally said.
"Well? What do you think?"
Shaya's lips moved, but she couldn't find the words.
Finally Dev uttered, "Mom, you're a… cow."
"Right! So that Shaya and I could do a theme." At their blank expressions, she said. "Get it? Cowgirl… cow."
Shaya finally found her voice. "Mom, you're… huge. You're huge and black and white and you have an udder. ~ Jody Kihara
Living Longer quotes by Jody Kihara
In one of her most influential studies, she and her team tracked the emotional experiences of nearly two hundred people over years of their lives. The subjects spanned a broad range of backgrounds and ages. (They were from eighteen to ninety-four years old when they entered the study.) At the beginning of the study and then every five years, the subjects were given a beeper to carry around twenty-four hours a day for one week. They were randomly paged thirty-five times over the course of that week and asked to choose from a list all the emotions they were experiencing at that exact moment.
If Maslow's hierarchy was right, then the narrowing of life runs against people's greatest sources of fulfillment and you would expect people to grow unhappier as they age. But Carstensen's research found exactly the opposite. The results were unequivocal. Far from growing unhappier, people reported more positive emotions as they aged. They became less prone to anxiety, depression, and anger. They experienced trials, to be sure, and more moments of poignancy - that is, of positive and negative emotion mixed together. But overall, they found living to be a more emotionally satisfying and stable experience as time passed, even as old age narrowed the lives they led.
The findings raised a further question. If we shift as we age toward appreciating everyday pleasures and relationships rather than toward achieving, having, and getting, and if we find this more fulfilling, then why do w ~ Atul Gawande
Living Longer quotes by Atul Gawande
When your healthy self is strong enough to deal with all that comes your way in life, your eating disorder self will no longer be useful or necessary. You ~ Carolyn Costin
Living Longer quotes by Carolyn Costin
We won the lottery in life and life is such a beautiful, precious gift, and we have to savor it, because as far as we know, we are the only living things in the universe, so it is our duty to protect it. ~ Francesca Martinez
Living Longer quotes by Francesca Martinez
Rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love. ~ Neil Patrick Harris
Living Longer quotes by Neil Patrick Harris
Explosive Pandemic-type zombies mostly spread the contagion through wounding or biting humans, and in that way, the increase their numbers. Because they multiply so quickly and explosively, they can destroy all human civilization in a very short time. For this reason, will refer to them as Explosive Pandemic-type zombies.

The person responsible for Explosive Pandemic-type zombies is none other than George A Romero, who created them in 1968 Night of the Living Dead. ~ Sakazaki Freddie
Living Longer quotes by Sakazaki Freddie
There is a moment, a cusp, when the sum of gathered experience is worn down by the details of living. We are never so wise as when we live in this moment. ~ Paul Kalanithi
Living Longer quotes by Paul Kalanithi
My directing style is long takes. The longer take I can do, the more I can think of not doing it in cuts, the better. ~ M. Night Shyamalan
Living Longer quotes by M. Night Shyamalan
God's grace will not take you where it cannot keep you. ~ Edmond Sanganyado
Living Longer quotes by Edmond Sanganyado
The other is not outside you but living within you. ~ Sri Amma Bhagwan.
Living Longer quotes by Sri Amma Bhagwan.
On whom am I dependent? What are my main fears? Who was I meant to be at birth? What were my goals and how did they change? What were the forks of the road where I took the wrong direction and went the wrong way? What efforts did I make to correct the error and return to the right way? Who am I now, and who would I be if I had always made the right decisions and avoided crucial errors? Whom did I want to be long ago, now, and in the future? What is my image of myself? What is the image I wish others to have of me? Where are the discrepancies between the two images, both between themselves and with what I sense in my real self? Who will I be if I continue to live as I am living now? What are the conditions responsible for the development as it happened? What are the alternatives for further development open to me now? What must I do to realize the possibility I choose? ~ Erich Fromm
Living Longer quotes by Erich Fromm
Existence – what's it good for, if it can't be forever – and the only way to exist forever is through your actions – your civilized, courageous and conscientious actions. ~ Abhijit Naskar
Living Longer quotes by Abhijit Naskar
She was a nightmare of beauty and menace living right there above them, a being part raptor, part human, part divine. She knew without question that she could sweep down on them and inflict upon all of them a terrible vengeance if she wished. She had the capacity for violence within her, residing beside her heart. ~ David Anthony Durham
Living Longer quotes by David Anthony Durham
Your Brain on drugs is a terrible sight, but Mr Tulip was living proof of the fact that so was Your Brain on a a cocktail of horse liniment, sherbet, and powdered water-retention pills. ~ Terry Pratchett
Living Longer quotes by Terry Pratchett
But at some point in her passage, the trees began to change. They stretched taller, and the soft, pale bark darkened, roughened. She put her hand to a tree and touched the lichen growing dark green upon brown, and it felt like old cork, dry and crumbling. Here the sun mellowed, took on the cast of late afternoon, and the shadows seemed to fall a bit longer; the forest had sunk into a deeper silence, magnifying what sounds did arise. The sudden, quick crash of a fox bounding through the brush was as loud as the slam of a great wooden door. ~ Malinda Lo
Living Longer quotes by Malinda Lo
The price of living seems to always be death."
Tohin stood, joints popping audibly. "And that is why you become a dealer of death. You feed death as many people as you can to keep it full and content so its eye stays off you. ~ Kiersten White
Living Longer quotes by Kiersten White
You cannot hear a poem without it changing you," she told me. "They heard it, and it colonized them. It inherited them and it inhabited them, its rhythms becoming part of the way that they thought; its images permanently transmuting their metaphors; its verses, its outlook, its aspirations becoming their lives. Within a generation their children would be born already knowing the poem, and, sooner rather than later, as these things go, there were no more children born. There was no need for them, not any longer. There was only a poem, which took flesh and walked and spread itself across the vastness of the known. ~ Neil Gaiman
Living Longer quotes by Neil Gaiman
They marched like madmen from place to place, until overcome by exhaustion and lack of strength they could no longer move from one side to the other, and they remained there, wherever this sad siren voice had summoned them, self-important, and dead. ~ David Grann
Living Longer quotes by David Grann
Making a living and making a life sometimes point in opposite directions. ~ Pico Iyer
Living Longer quotes by Pico Iyer
What lies ahead of you is better than what you have already experienced. ~ Jaachynma N.E. Agu
Living Longer quotes by Jaachynma N.E. Agu
A supermodel needed to be able to be on 'Sports Illustrated,' to be able to walk runways, to be able to do beauty ads, to be on covers. And the girls now can no longer be on covers and be in the ads because your actresses have taken over all the jobs. I don't know what happened, but we want our jobs back. ~ Kim Alexis
Living Longer quotes by Kim Alexis
I like to think of my books and the movies of my books living in two separate universes. Each is very nice, but only one is correct - the book. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the other versions, and I always do. ~ Meg Cabot
Living Longer quotes by Meg Cabot
Our whole idea about ourselves is based on the opinion of others. We may answer that such and such is our name, we work or study at such and such places. But is our identity confined to these outer features? ~ Shivanshu K. Srivastava

If I looked into a mirror, and did not see my face, I should have the sort of feeling which actually comes upon me, when I look into this living busy world, and see no reflexion of its Creator. ~ John Henry Newman
Living Longer quotes by John Henry Newman
Anyone can live for themself , but life's worth better living for others. ~ K. Qasim Ali
Living Longer quotes by K. Qasim Ali
Now, now, Auntie, you had better play nice with my dearest Bianca. I have not invited her to live in one of my homes. I have welcomed her into all of them. And though I know it would break your heart if anything were to ever happen to me, you will be beholden to this angel to cover your living expenses when I pass away, as she will be my sole inheritor. ~ R.K. Lilley
Living Longer quotes by R.K. Lilley
