In the '80s, I was the only game in town, I was the only one getting that kind of exposure in any rotation on MTV. Now with internet culture it seems like everyone is doing music parodies. And they're not all good! ~ Al Yankovic
Internet Culture quotes by Al Yankovic
Your basic person wants to talk about material culture, internet culture. I think about God, cats, nature. ~ Billy Corgan
Internet Culture quotes by Billy Corgan
RSS, as a format and an idea, grew directly out of an internet culture that many people online today know nothing about: Usenet. ~ Annalee Newitz
Internet Culture quotes by Annalee Newitz
I know I've got self-worth issues. I just found out I was chosen as an emissary by an alien envoy to represent and protect the human race, and still I spent the afternoon searching for validation on Twitter. ~ Hank Green
Internet Culture quotes by Hank Green
Lil B opened up the floodgates for Odd Future, and now rap has a huge Internet culture. ~ Earl Sweatshirt
Internet Culture quotes by Earl Sweatshirt
Reddit, which calls itself 'The Front Page of the Internet,' is more influential in shaping Internet culture than its comparatively small reach would lead you to believe. ~ Ethan Zuckerman
Internet Culture quotes by Ethan Zuckerman
North Korea aside, most authoritarian governments have already accepted the growth of the Internet culture as inevitable; they have little choice but to find ways to shape it in accord with their own narratives - or risk having their narratives shaped by others. ~ Evgeny Morozov
Internet Culture quotes by Evgeny Morozov
Sure to become mandatory reading for anyone with an interest in big business and popular culture . . . Isaacson is to be commended for explaining the genius of Jobs in fascinating fashion, launching a discussion that could reach infinity and beyond. ~ Walter Isaacson
Internet Culture quotes by Walter Isaacson
Raising awareness about the Deaf culture is a huge cause that I advocate. Because both of my parents are deaf, I am passionate about it in an entirely different way. ~ Grace Gealey
Internet Culture quotes by Grace Gealey
Playing with the Barbie-size keyboard on my new phone. Phones are like toys now. They fit in your pocket, light up and vibrate like joy buzzers. Plus, you can get-I mean, "access"-the Internet and find anything you want. Music. Maps. Porn. Anything. If cell phones came with a cigarette dispenser, they'd be the greatest stupid invention ever. ~ Richard Kadrey
Internet Culture quotes by Richard Kadrey
Culturally, however, Sicily had great advantages. Muslim, Byzantine, Italian, and German civilization met and mingled there as nowhere else. Greek and Arabic were still living languages in Sicily. Frederick learnt to speak six languages fluently, and in all six he was witty. He was at home in Arabian philosophy, and had friendly relations with Mohammedans, which scandalized pious Christians. He was a Hohenstaufen, and in Germany could count as a German. But in culture and sentiment he was Italian, with a tincture of Byzantine and Arab. His contemporaries gazed upon him with astonishment gradually turning into horror; they called him 'wonder of the world and marvellous innovator'. ~ Bertrand Russell
Internet Culture quotes by Bertrand Russell
The evolution of the human brain is inextricably interwoven with the expansion of culture and the emergence of language. Thus, it is no coincidence that human beings are story tellers. Through countless generations, humans have gathered to listen to stories of the hunt, the exploits of their ancestors, and morality tales of good and evil...Thus, I believe that both the urge to tell a tale and our vulnerability to being captivate by one are deeply woven into the structures of our brains ~ Louis Cozolino
Internet Culture quotes by Louis Cozolino
At this time, girls are expected to sacrifice the parts of themselves that our culture considers masculine on the altar of social acceptibility and to shrink their souls down to a petite size ~ Mary Pipher
Internet Culture quotes by Mary Pipher
Sustained great results depend upon building a culture full of self-disciplined people who take disciplined action, fanatically consistent with the three circles. ~ James C. Collins
Internet Culture quotes by James C. Collins
That boy is talented. You don't develop those gifts in houses or in schools. ~ Sara Sheridan
Internet Culture quotes by Sara Sheridan
Internet porn makes everything more reasonable
once you've realized there is a massive subculture of upwardly mobile people who think it's erotic to see an Asian woman giving a hand job to a javelina, nothing else in the world seems crazy. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Internet Culture quotes by Chuck Klosterman
As a New Yorker you can't help but be proud of the fact that so much music and culture started here. Punk rock, jazz, hip-hop and house music started here, George Gershwin debuted 'Rhapsody in Blue' here; the Velvet Underground are from New York. ~ Moby
Internet Culture quotes by Moby
A tissue is evidently an enduring thing. It's functional and structural conditions become modified from moment to moment. Time is really the fourth dimension of living organisms. It enters as part into the constitution of a tissue. Cell colonies, or organs, are events which progressively unfold themselves. They must be studied like history. ~ Alexis Carrel
Internet Culture quotes by Alexis Carrel
The Internet is the global brain, the cyberspacially connected, telepathic, collective domain that we've all been hungering for. ~ Terence McKenna
Internet Culture quotes by Terence McKenna
Yet there was this to be said for unfavorable relationships in the wealth-distribution equation. It meant the existence of a leisure class and the development of an attractive way of life which, at its best, encouraged culture and grace. As long as the other end of the scale was not too badly off, as long as the leisure classes did not entirely forget their responsibilities while enjoying their privileges, as long as their culture took no obviously unhealthy turn, there was always the tendency in Eternity to forgive the departure from the ideal wealth-distribution pattern and to search for other, less attractive maladjustments. ~ Isaac Asimov
Internet Culture quotes by Isaac Asimov
I also wanted Parker to operate in the Internet age without losing being Parker. He's always operated in the world without really being with the world, and cyberspace means that the rest of us are more and more living the same way. ~ Donald E. Westlake
Internet Culture quotes by Donald E. Westlake
Building a business is a creative act. Few of us realize when we start out that we are creating not only a company but a culture. That's because it's usually not planned. It just happens. While everyone is focused on something else, making sales, providing service, sending out invoices, a little community springs up. It has its own unspoken customs, traditions, modes of dress and speech, and rules of behavior. By the time you become aware of it, the culture is often well established and it will probably be a reflection of your personality. ~ Jack Daly
Internet Culture quotes by Jack Daly
Whoever said you have to be an A$$ to be a boss, should never get to be a boss. Especially in a democratic society. Being an A$$ boss in a democratic society only causes resentment and disloyalty. Motivate your employees by instilling pride in them for themselves and for their work brand. - Strong by Kailin Gow on how to build a Strong Company ~ Kailin Gow
Internet Culture quotes by Kailin Gow
Unalert yet sometimes suffused through and through by an inward light, is characteristic of the primitive and of the child (and also of those moments of religious and artistic inspiration that occur ever less and less often as a Culture grows older) right ~ Oswald Spengler
Internet Culture quotes by Oswald Spengler
We are only peripherally tied to the lives of others. It takes a long long time for us to become deeply involved with others, and for some this never happens. ~ Edward T. Hall
Internet Culture quotes by Edward T. Hall
When I say "miracle" I mean a kind of thing like a computer on a chip, or the internet, or the cellphone, that are really quite miraculous. Most people would not have predicted them, and their effect has been very, very dramatic. ~ Bill Gates
Internet Culture quotes by Bill Gates
The American South is an authentic American Culture. Maybe the last. The north is just a Casserole Culture – a tasteless vat of leftovers, frozen peas and stale crumbs. ~ Tim Heaton
Internet Culture quotes by Tim Heaton
I know somebody in every culture. ~ Timbaland
Internet Culture quotes by Timbaland
I'm a huge fan of online communities. I think that asynchronous internet-based communication forums such as Reddit and other discussion forums are one of the best things that could possibly have happened to collaborative invention. The Rift certainly would not exist without forums. ~ Palmer Luckey
Internet Culture quotes by Palmer Luckey
But people are not butterflies, right.
People are, well, more important than butterflies.
We have opposable thumbs, hello.
You can't possibly compare the sanctity of a human's life with that of a butterfly. In our culture you can and, indeed, must quantify sanctity, and butterflies have less than people. ~ Inga Muscio
Internet Culture quotes by Inga Muscio
Look at our culture. Look at the computer-enhanced people we compare ourselves to. Look at the expensive cars and trinkets we're all supposed to have. Look at how many people are wrapped up in that! Imagine how much money and worry we'd save ourselves if we stopped caring what kind of car we drove! and why do we care? perfection. But there is no such thing, is there? And if there is, then everyone is perfect in their own way, right? ~ A.S. King
Internet Culture quotes by A.S. King
We need to define what culture is. Every human being lives within a culture, and culture means "To grow in." It means to literally fall, and this is exactly what I believe is happening all around us right now. ~ Myles Munroe
Internet Culture quotes by Myles Munroe
Strunk was born in 1869, and today's writers cannot base their craft exclusively on the advice of a man who developed his sense of style before the invention of the telephone (let alone the Internet), before the advent of modern linguistics and cognitive science, before the wave of informalization that swept the world in the second half of the twentieth century. ~ Steven Pinker
Internet Culture quotes by Steven Pinker
In the modern period, the alliance between Christianity and the political order continues to some extent. But even more so, the dream of God has been submerged by the individualism that characterizes much of modern Western culture. The dream of God is quite different from contemporary American dreams. The dream of God - a politics of compassion and justice, the kingdom of God, a domination-free order - is social, communal, and egalitarian. But our dreams - the dreams we get from our culture - are individualistic: living well, looking good, standing out. ~ Marcus J. Borg
Internet Culture quotes by Marcus J. Borg
[Olin] formed a culture of student ownership and engagement…students are not consumers but rather are partners in their education. ~ David Edward Goldberg
Internet Culture quotes by David Edward Goldberg
After eighteen long months covering this dreary business, the whole campaign appears in my mind's eye as one long, protracted scratch-fight over Internet-fueled nonsense. ~ Matt Taibbi
Internet Culture quotes by Matt Taibbi
'Look at Me' started with Rockford, Illinois and New York and the question of how much image culture was changing our inner lives. That's an abstract idea; you don't think that's going to be a rocking work of fiction, but it seemed to fuse in a way that was interesting. ~ Jennifer Egan
Internet Culture quotes by Jennifer Egan
Prime would eventually justify its existence. The service turned customers into Amazon addicts who gorged on the almost instant gratification of having purchases reliably appear two days after they ordered them. Signing up for Amazon Prime, Jason Kilar said at the time, "was like going from a dial-up to a broadband Internet connection. ~ Brad Stone
Internet Culture quotes by Brad Stone
Today we hear a great deal about Organizational Men, Mass Culture, Conformity, the Lonely Crowd, the Power Elite and its Conspiracy of Mediocrity. We forget that the very volume of this criticism is an indication that our society is still radically pluralistic. Not only are there plenty of exceptionalists who take exception to the stereotyping of the mass culture but that very string of epithets comes from a series of books that have been recent best-sellers, symptoms of a popular, living tradition of dissent from things as they are. ~ Kenneth Rexroth
Internet Culture quotes by Kenneth Rexroth
Yes. Do you remember?"
Once more a shrug of the shoulders. "How should I remember? We have questioned thousands - "
"Questioned! Beaten into unconsciousness, kidneys crushed, bones broken, thrown into cellars like sacks, dragged up again, faces torn, testicles crushed - that was what you called questioning! The hot frightful moaning of those who were no longer able to cry - questioned! The whimpering between unconsciousness and consciousness, kicks in the belly, rubber clubs, whips - yes, all that you innocently called 'questioning'!"
"Don't move your hands! Or I'll shoot you down! Do you remember little Max Rosenberg who lay beside me in the cellar with his torn body and who tried to smash his head on the cement wall to keep from being questioned again - questioned, why? Because he was a democrat! And Willmann who passed blood and had no teeth and only one eye left after he had been questioned by you for two hours - questioned, why? Because he was a Catholic and did not believe your Fuehrer was the new Messiah. And Riesenfeld whose head and back looked like raw lumps of flesh and who implored us to bite open his arteries because he was toothless and no longer able to do it himself after he had been questioned by you - questioned, why? Because he was against war and did not believe that culture is most perfectly expressed by bombs and flame throwers. Questioned! Thousands have been questioned, yes - don't move your hands, you swine! And now finally I've got you ~ Erich Maria Remarque
Internet Culture quotes by Erich Maria Remarque
We need to distinguish between two contrasting narratives of Culture Talk. One thinks of premodern peoples as those who are not yet modern, who are either lagging behind or have yet to embark on the road to modernity. The other depicts the premodern as also the antimodern. Whereas the former conception encourages relations based on philanthropy, the latter notion is productive of fear and preemptive police or military action.
The difference is clear if we contrast earlier depictions of Africans with contemporary talk about Muslims. During the Cold War, Africans were stigmatized as the prime example of peoples not capable of modernity. With the end of the Cold War, Islam and the Middle East have displaced Africa as the hard premodern core in a rapidly globalizing world. The difference in the contemporary perception of black Africa and Middle Eastern Islam is this: whereas Africa is seen as incapable of modernity, hard-core Islam is seen as not only incapable of but also resistant to modernity. Whereas Africans are said to victimize themselves, hard-core Muslims are said to be prone to taking others along to the world beyond. ~ Mahmood Mamdani
Internet Culture quotes by Mahmood Mamdani
It's hard for me to get interested in stories that ignore death, which is what American marketing culture would like to do: pretend that death doesn't exist, that you can buy immortality; just buy these products, and you'll be forever young and happy. ~ Alan Ball
Internet Culture quotes by Alan Ball
When I was sixteen I started acting, and I also started to embrace my tradition and culture. I had a young medicine man interpret for me what it is to be an Indian. He really caught me at a good time because I was really vulnerable after the loss of my parents with all of the feelings of abandonment. ~ Adam Beach
Internet Culture quotes by Adam Beach
The Internet is the easiest thing to get into. To be an Internet retailer, you just get that URL. ~ Bill Gates
Internet Culture quotes by Bill Gates
India is like Europe. This means there isone currency and numerous languages andcultures. And this is a 'Europe' made up ofvarious cultures. ~ Raj Thackeray
Internet Culture quotes by Raj Thackeray
By welcoming eager, talented workers, we expand America's potential for growth, and our competitive culture of invention and possibility. ~ Ron Conway
Internet Culture quotes by Ron Conway
We proclaimed the freedom of the individual, bought and drove millions of cars to prove it, built more roads for the cars to drive on so we could go the everywhere that was nowhere. We watered our lawns, we washed our cars, we gulped plastic bottles of water to stay hydrated in our dehydrated land, we put up water parks.
We built temples to our fantasies--film studios, amusement parks, crystal cathedrals, megachurches--and flocked to them.
We went to the beach, rode the waves, and poured our waste into the water we said we loved.
We reinvented ourselves every day, remade our culture, locked ourselves in gated communities, we ate healthy food, we gave up smoking, we lifted our faces while avoiding the sun, we had our skin peeled, our lines removed, our fat sucked away like our unwanted babies, we defied aging and death.
We made gods of wealth and health.
A religion of narcissism.
In the end, we worshipped only ourselves.
In the end, it wasn't enough. ~ Don Winslow
Internet Culture quotes by Don Winslow
See you on the other side of the screen, if you make it, earnest cyberspace cadet. ~ CrimethInc.
Internet Culture quotes by CrimethInc.
But American Christians are going to have to come to terms with the brute fact that we live in a culture, one in which our beliefs make increasingly little sense. We speak a language that the world more and more either cannot hear or finds offensive to its ears. ~ Rod Dreher
Internet Culture quotes by Rod Dreher
Building a naval power takes generations, not so much to develop the necessary technology as to pass along the accumulated experience that creates good admirals. ~ George Friedman
Internet Culture quotes by George Friedman
Carla lives for cat videos. She thinks they're the only thing the Internet is good for. ~ Nicola Yoon
Internet Culture quotes by Nicola Yoon
In all your getting, get understand. Proverbs paraphrased ~ Katie Canty
