At last she said, Them Burdicks isn't worth the powder and shot to blow them up. They're like a pack of hound dogs. They'll chase livestock, suck eggs, and lick the skillet. And steal? They'd steal a hot stove and come back for the smoke. ~ Richard Peck
Hound Dogs quotes by Richard Peck
I got back to the vehicles and spotted Ashley Voss right away. She was standing there waiting with her rucksack, ready to go. I walked up to her, smiled, and said, "Hey, what's up? I'm Noah."
"Hi. I'm Ashley," she said without much emotion.
"Cool. Are you excited to come to our area?" I flashed her a grin.
After a brief pause she said, "Yeah, the medics can use a female."
She was acting like a professional and I was acting more like someone standing at a bar trying to buy her a drink. As if that couldn't be more awkward, right at that moment my radio squawked loudly, "Hey, can somebody get me that female medic's roster number? I need it before we head out." It was Jerry, ruining my game.
I leaned over and hit the button and said a little too proudly, "I've got the female medic with me now. I will get that for you."
And before I could ask her what it was, Jerry came back over the radio, "Galloway. You're with the female. Why am I not surprised?" Ashley gave me her roster number, and I sent it back to Jerry.
I turned to Ashley and said, "I'm not a player, just wanted to know more about you."
She didn't look that convinced. We got in the trucks and drove back. At the potato plant all the guys started sniffing this girl out like a bunch of hound dogs. One of the guys ran and grabbed her rucksack for her and carried it into the medic station, like he was a bellhop. ~ Noah Galloway
Hound Dogs quotes by Noah Galloway
They take unbelievable pleasure in the hideous blast of the hunting horn and baying of the hounds. Dogs dung smells sweet as cinnamon to them. ~ Desiderius Erasmus
Hound Dogs quotes by Desiderius Erasmus
What you need for breakfast, they say in East Tennessee, is a jug of good corn liquor, a thick steak and a hound dog. Then you feed the steak to the dog. ~ Charles Kuralt
Hound Dogs quotes by Charles Kuralt
If you live among dogs, keep a stick. After all, this is what a hound has teeth for-to bite when he feels like it! ~ Nikita Khrushchev
Hound Dogs quotes by Nikita Khrushchev
Elvis Presley's talent brightened millions of lives. He widened the horizons of my world certainly. The first record I ever owned was a 78 rpm of "Hound Dog" backed by "Don't Be Cruel" and when I listened to those tunes I felt about ten feet tall and I grinned so hard that I felt like the corners of my mouth would meet in the back and the tip of my head would simply topple off. All I know about Rock and Roll is that it makes people feel good. Elvis Presley more than made me feel good, he enriched my life and made it better. ~ Stephen King
Hound Dogs quotes by Stephen King
How she wished she were back at home with her family, strumming her banjo on the porch while Grampa Cornpone played the fiddle. Oh, the steamy bayou nights of her youth! Ma would cook up a huge pan of Creole innards, whilst Pa sat in the corner smoking his pipe of tabaccy with the hound dogs snoozing at his feet. ~ Howard Mittelmark
Hound Dogs quotes by Howard Mittelmark
Replace ropes with bullets. Hound dogs with German shepherds. A gray uniform with a bulletproof vest. Nothing is new. ~ Jesmyn Ward
Hound Dogs quotes by Jesmyn Ward
Exiting onto the street, I heard a chorus of bells from three churches, then saw the blood-red banners with their dark Swastikas everywhere I turned. I'm accustomed to this in Berlin, but seeing them on these lovely old façades is like finding graffiti scrawled on my grandmother's house. The Nazis are relentless with this display, like dogs marking territory. ~ Phyllis Edgerly Ring
Hound Dogs quotes by Phyllis Edgerly Ring
Like the greatest virtue and the worst dogs, the fiercest hatred is silent. ~ Jean Paul
Hound Dogs quotes by Jean Paul
He became quicker of movement than the other dogs, swifter of foot, craftier, deadlier, more lithe, more lean with ironlike muscle and sinew, more enduring, more cruel more ferocious, and more intelligent. He had to become all these things, else he would not have held his own nor survived the hostile environment in which he found himself. ~ Jack London
Hound Dogs quotes by Jack London
Do you know there is always a barrier between me and any man or woman who does not like dogs? ~ Ellen Glasgow
Hound Dogs quotes by Ellen Glasgow
There is a siren that sounds in our small town to announce the curfew. At noon and at 10 p.m. Every time the siren sounds all the sled dogs howl, and I imagine that they think there is a large, loud god dog that rules the land howling. I equate this with religion. A short-sighted and desperate attempt for humans to create reason and order in a universe we can't possibly comprehend. The simple truth is that we are simply an expression of the energy of the sun. We are the glorious manifestation of the power of the universe. ~ Tanya Tagaq
Hound Dogs quotes by Tanya Tagaq
My writer friends, and they are legion, do not go around beaming with quiet feelings of contentment. Most of them go around with haunted, abused, surprised looks on their faces, like lab dogs on whom very personal deodorant sprays have been tested. ~ Anne Lamott
Hound Dogs quotes by Anne Lamott
Don't you like a rather foggy a in a wood in autumn? You'll find we shall be perfectly warm sitting in the car."
Jane said she'd never heard of anyone liking fogs before but she didn't mind trying. All three got in.
"That's why Camilla and I got married, "said Denniston as they drove off. "We both like Weather. Not this or that kind of weather, but just Weather. It's a useful taste if one lives in England."
"How ever did you learn to do that, Mr. Denniston?" said Jane. "I don't think I should ever learn to like rain and snow."
"It's the other way round," said Denniston. "Everyone begins as a child by liking Weather. You learn the art of disliking it as you grow up. Noticed it on a snowy day? The grown-ups are all going about with long faces, but look at the children - and the dogs? They know what snow's made for."
"I'm sure I hated wet days as a child," said Jane.
"That's because the grown-ups kept you in," said Camilla. "Any child loves rain if it's allowed to go out and paddle about in it. ~ C.S. Lewis
Hound Dogs quotes by C.S. Lewis
Here is a book so dull that a whirling dervish could read himself to sleep with it. If you were to recite even a single page in the open air, birds would fall out of the sky and dogs drop dead. ~ Clive James
Hound Dogs quotes by Clive James
My dogs forgive anger in me, the arrogance in me, the brute in me. They forgive everything I do before I forgive myself. ~ Guy De La Valdene
Hound Dogs quotes by Guy De La Valdene
DOGS AT WORK AND YOGA AREN'T CULTURE Startups ~ Ben Horowitz
Hound Dogs quotes by Ben Horowitz
Most people would say they love animals, but the reality is, if your using animals for food, clothing, or entertainment, you're only considering the lives of certain animals, typically those of cats and dogs. ~ Melisser Elliott
Hound Dogs quotes by Melisser Elliott
Edible names are what drives me as a musician. My next band will be called the Hot Dogs. ~ Chad Smith
Hound Dogs quotes by Chad Smith
Gentlemen of the jury: The best friend a man has in this world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it the most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads. The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.
Gentlemen of the jury: A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune d ~ George Graham Vest
Hound Dogs quotes by George Graham Vest
Let the sleeping dogs lie, but rise up! You sleeping giants. ~ Bernard Kelvin Clive
Hound Dogs quotes by Bernard Kelvin Clive
We must drive them [Jews] out like mad dogs, so that we do not become partakers of their abominable blasphemy and all the their other vices and thus merit God's wrath and be damned with them. ~ Martin Luther
Hound Dogs quotes by Martin Luther
I love women, but I feel like you can't trust some of them. Some of them are liars, you know? Like I was in the park and I met this girl, she was cute and she had a dog. And I went up to her, we started talking. She told me her dog's name. Then I said, 'Does he bite?' She said, 'No.' And I said, 'Oh yeah? Then how does he eat?' Liar. ~ Demetri Martin
Hound Dogs quotes by Demetri Martin
The greatest fear dogs know is the fear that you will not come back when you go out the door without them. ~ Stanley Coren
Hound Dogs quotes by Stanley Coren
There are seventy-five perfumes, which it is very necessary that a criminal expert should be able to distinguish from each other, and cases have more than once within my own experience depended upon their prompt recognition. ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Hound Dogs quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
My line of thoughts about dogs is analogous. A dog reflects the family life. Whoever saw a frisky dog in a gloomy family, or a sad dog in a happy one? Snarling people have snarling dogs, dangerous people have dangerous ones. And their passing moods may reflect the passing moods of others. ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Hound Dogs quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
To me dogs are not the students, not the ones that need training. To me a dog is a teacher of life, who teaches us the principles of the most important moral values; honesty, integrity, loyalty, trust, respect and love. ~ Cesar Millan
Hound Dogs quotes by Cesar Millan
Last time I saw her, she was peeking out from one of the bookcases next to the fireplace. She's the first cat I've ever seen trying to pretend she's a condensed version of War and Peace. ~ Ellen Hart
Hound Dogs quotes by Ellen Hart
Dogs are not people dressed up in fur coats, and to deny them their nature is to do them great harm. ~ Jeanne Schinto
Hound Dogs quotes by Jeanne Schinto
I have a theory that you get the right dog, the dog you need, for a particular stage in your life. ~ Meg Donohue
Hound Dogs quotes by Meg Donohue
There will always be folks who will talk, and the better you do in the world the more bad things they will say of you. Back there in the settlement you remember how the dogs used to run out and bark at our wagons?"
"Yes, ma."
"Did the wagons stop?"
"No, ma."
"Remember that, son. The dogs bark, but the wagons go on their way, and if you're going some place you haven't time to bother with barking dogs. ~ Louis L'Amour
Hound Dogs quotes by Louis L'Amour
Any man who does not like dogs and want them about does not deserve to be in the White House. ~ Calvin Coolidge
Hound Dogs quotes by Calvin Coolidge
We need wealthy dogs off the seats of power. They're taking us back to feudalism and I really don't want that. But I'm very far from being a socialist. ~ John Lydon
Hound Dogs quotes by John Lydon
No game designed to be played with the aid of personal servants by right-handed men who can't even bring along their dogs can be entirely good for the soul. ~ Bruce McCall

Hound Dogs quotes by Les Standiford
Neighbours complaining about someone's dog making an awful racket. You could hardly blame the poor beast, its owner had died in her bed at least a fortnight before and there hadn't been much left of the old girl worth eating. ~ James Oswald
Hound Dogs quotes by James Oswald
Bessie was News, Leaders, and Gossip; Enid was Features, Make-up and general Sub. Whenever they were at a loss for copy they would mercilessly pillage ancient copies of Punch or Home Chat. An occasional hole in the copy was filled with a ghoulish smudge - local block-making had clearly indicated that somewhere a poker-work fanatic had gone quietly out of his mind. In this way the Central Balkan Herald was made up every morning and then delivered to the composition room where the chain-gang quickly reduced it to gibberish. MINISTER FINED FOR KISSING IN PUBIC. WEDDING BULLS RING OUT FOR PRINCESS. QUEEN OF HOLLAND GIVES PANTY FOR EX-SERVICE MEN. MORE DOGS HAVE BABIES THIS SUMMER IN BELGRADE. BRITAINS NEW FLYING-GOAT. ~ Lawrence Durrell
Hound Dogs quotes by Lawrence Durrell
Bel pointed. "Head. Tail. Pets go here." He pointed to the dog's head again. "Farts come out here." He pointed to the dog's back end. "That's all you need to know about Stump. ~ Lisa Henry

She was the one who wanted to be with him, the one who watched and waited for him, who felt his absence badly. ~ Sonya Hartnett

Did you ever think much about jobs? I mean, some of the jobs people land in? You see a guy giving haircuts to dogs, or maybe going along the curb with a shovel, scooping up horse manure. And you think, now why is the silly bastard doing that? He looks fairly bright, about as bright as anyone else. Why the hell does he do that for living?
You kind grin and look down your nose at him. You think he's nuts, know what I mean, or he doesn't have any ambition. And then you take a good look at yourself, and you stop wondering about the other guy…

You've got all your hands and feet. Your health is okay, and you make a nice appearance, and ambition-man! You've got it. You're young, I guess: you'd call thirty young, and you're strong. You don't have much education, but you've got more than plenty of other people who go to the top. And yet with all that, with all you've had to do with this is as far you've got And something tellys you, you're not going much farther if any.

And there is nothing to be done about it now, of course, but you can't stop hoping. You can't stop wondering…

…Maybe you had too much ambition. Maybe that was the trouble. You couldn't see yourself spending forty years moving from office boy to president. So you signed on with a circulation crew; you worked the magazines from one coast to another. And then you ran across a little brush deal-it sounded nice, anyway. And you worked that until you found something better, something tha ~ Jim Thompson
Hound Dogs quotes by Jim Thompson
This was the lesson of the lesser dog: all violence is risk. Even the smallest dog can win if it encourages the strong dogs to take all the risk for themselves. ~ Edward W. Robertson
Hound Dogs quotes by Edward W. Robertson
I have to walk dogs." "Oh," Gansey replied, sounding deflated. "Well, okay." "But it'll only take an hour." "Oh," he repeated, about fourteen shades brighter. "Shall I pick you up, then? ~ Maggie Stiefvater
