I'm a glutton for coffee Heath Bar crunch ice cream. ~ Josh Duhamel
Glutton quotes by Josh Duhamel
If a person who indulges in gluttony is a glutton, and a person who commits a felony is a felon, then God is an iron. ~ Spider Robinson
Glutton quotes by Spider Robinson
Two ill meales make the third a glutton. ~ George Herbert
Glutton quotes by George Herbert
Be not among z drunkards [5] or among a gluttonous eaters of meat, 21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and b slumber will clothe them with rags. ~ Anonymous
Glutton quotes by Anonymous
You ask a starved man," Gerritszoon says, "to drink to a glutton. ~ David Mitchell
Glutton quotes by David Mitchell
I am a glutton for a beautiful hotel. I am so easily smitten by high thread counts. ~ Gail Simmons
Glutton quotes by Gail Simmons
Then I should have chosen a career for myself, I should have been a sluggard and a glutton, not a simple one, but for instance, one with sympathies for everything sublime and beautiful. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Glutton quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Catholicism is not a soothing religion. It's a painful religion. We're all gluttons for punishment. ~ Madonna Ciccone
Glutton quotes by Madonna Ciccone
I am a glutton. I'll eat whatever is there. Pizza. I love hot dogs anywhere. I've got nothing against any of that. If I feel like eating, I eat. I don't feel guilty about it at all. ~ Jacques Pepin
Glutton quotes by Jacques Pepin
In Debt, the anthropologist David Graeber tells the story of Tei Reinga, a Maori villager and "notorious glutton" who used to wander up and down the New Zealand coast, badgering the local fishermen by asking for the best portions of their catch. Since it's impolite in Maori culture (as in many cultures) to refuse a direct request for food, the fishermen would oblige - but with ever-increasing reluctance. And so as Reinga continued to ask for food, their resentment grew until "one day, people decided enough was enough and killed him."
This story is extreme, to say the least, but it illustrates how norm-following and norm-enforcement can be a very high-stakes game. Reinga flouted an important norm (against freeloading) and eventually paid dearly for it. But just as tellingly, the fishermen who put him to death felt so duty-bound by a different norm (the norm of food-sharing) that they followed it even to the point of building up murderous resentment. "Couldn't you just have said no to Reinga's requests?!" we want to shout at the villagers. ~ Kevin Simler
Glutton quotes by Kevin Simler
Love comforeth like sunshine after rain,
But Lust's effect is tempest after sun.
Love's gentle spring doth always fresh remain;
Lust's winter comes ere summer half be done.
Love surfeits not, Lust like a glutton dies;
Love is all truth, Lust full of forged lies. ~ William Shakespeare
Glutton quotes by William Shakespeare
And, er, these stories about you..."

"Oh, all true. Most of them. A bit of exaggeration, but mostly true."

"The one about the Citadel in Muntab and the Pash and the fish bone?"

"Oh, yes."

"But how did you get in where half a dozen armed and trained men couldn't even - ?"

"I am a little man and I carry a broom," said Lu-Tze simply. "Everyone has some mess that needs clearing up. What harm is a man with a broom?"

"What? And that was it?"

"Well, the rest was a matter of cookery, really. The Pash was not a good man, but he was a glutton for his fish pie."

"No martial arts?" said Lobsang.

"Oh, always a last resort. History needs shepherds, not butchers."

"Do you know okidoki?"

"Just a lot of bunny-hops."

"Shittake?"

"If I wanted to thrust my hand into hot sand I would go to the seaside."

"Upsidazi?"

"A waste of good bricks."

"No kando?"

"You made that one up. ~ Terry Pratchett
Glutton quotes by Terry Pratchett
Glutton- A person who escapes the evils of moderation by committing dyspepsia. ~ Ambrose Bierce
Glutton quotes by Ambrose Bierce
I felt like a glutton for pain, like I wanted to clutch the misery close to my heart and let it sit there. ~ Robert J. Crane
Glutton quotes by Robert J. Crane
Though the Son of Man expressed His federation with humanity, He was very careful to note that He was like man in all things save sin. He challenged His hearers to convict Him of sin. But the consequences of sin were all His as the Son of Man. Hence the prayer to let the chalice pass; His endurance of hunger and thirst; His agony and bloody sweat; perhaps even His seeming older than He actually was; His condescension to wash the feet of His disciples; His absence of resentment as the swine-owning capitalists ordered Him from their shores; His endurance of false charges of being a winebibber, a glutton; His gentleness, which expressed itself in hiding when His enemies would have stoned Him; above all, His endurance of worry, anxiety, fear, pain, mental anguish, fever, hunger, thirst, and agony during the hours of His Passion-all these things were to inspire men to imitate the Son of Man. Nothing that was human was foreign to Him. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Glutton quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
A GLUTTON IS ONE who raids the icebox for a cure for spiritual malnutrition. ~ Frederick Buechner
Glutton quotes by Frederick Buechner
Oh, pity the poor glutton Whose troubles all begin In struggling on and on to turn What's out into what's in. ~ Walter De La Mare
Glutton quotes by Walter De La Mare
Identity. That's my elephant. The thought came with certainty, without the question mark on the end this time. Not fame, exactly, though recognition was some kind of important cement for it. But what you were was what you did. And I did more, oh yes. If a hunger for identity were translated into, say, a hunger for food, he'd be a more fantastic glutton than Mark ever dreamed of being. Is it irrational, to want to be so much, to want so hard it hurts? And how much, then, was enough? ~ Lois McMaster Bujold
Glutton quotes by Lois McMaster Bujold
This is disturbing news for all of us in the Christian community. Jesus wasn't known for his disdain for people; he was known for his unconditional love for everyone, especially outcasts and sinners. One of the charges Jesus' opponents had against him was that he was "a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners."2 Surely the faith he founded should never be known for looking down on anyone. ~ Justin Lee
Glutton quotes by Justin Lee
You want to know the story? I'd be happy to tell you. I think I have just enough caloric energy stored up to make it through the telling of the tale. It's short. I am monstrously fat. I am a glutton. My wife was disgusted and repulsed. She gave me six months to lose one hundred pounds. I joined Weight Watchers . . . see it there, right across the street, that gaunt storefront? This afternoon was the big six-month weigh-in. So to speak. I had gained almost seventy pounds in the six months. An errant Snickers bar fell out of the cuff of my pants and rolled against my wife's foot as I stepped on the scale. The scale over there across the street is truly an ingenious device. One preprograms the desired new weight into it, and if one has achieved or gone below that new low weight, the scale bursts into recorded whistles and cheers and some lively marching-band tune. Apparently, tiny flags protrude from the top and wave mechanically back and forth. A failure--see for instance mine--results in a flatulent dirge of disappointed and contemptuous tuba. To the strains of the latter my wife left, the establishment, me, on the arm of a svelte yogurt distributor whom I am even now planning to crush, financially speaking, first thing tomorrow morning. Ms. Beadsman, you will find an eclair on the floor to the left of your chair. Could you perhaps manipulate it onto this plate with minimal chocolate loss and pass it to me. ~ David Foster Wallace
Glutton quotes by David Foster Wallace
It is a curious fact that no man likes to call himself a glutton, and yet each of us has in him a trace of gluttony, potential or actual. I cannot believe that there exists a single coherent human being who will not confess, at least to himself, that once or twice he has stuffed himself to bursting point on anything from quail financiere to flapjacks, for no other reason than the beastlike satisfaction of his belly. ~ M.F.K. Fisher
Glutton quotes by M.F.K. Fisher
Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. Or because I'm the cat curiosity is scheduled to kill in approximately six hours. ~ Lindsey Ouimet
Glutton quotes by Lindsey Ouimet
This is the artist, then, life's hungry man, the glutton of eternity, beauty's miser, glory's slave. ~ Tom Wolfe
Glutton quotes by Tom Wolfe
Well," he said, quite seriously, "it's this way: you work because you're afraid not to. You work becuase you have to drive yourself to such a fury to begin. That part's just plain hell! It's so hard to get started that once you do you're afraid of slipping back. You'd rather do anything than go through all that agony again--so you keep going--you keep going faster all the time--you keep going till you couldn't stop even if you wanted to. You forget to eat, to shave, to put on a clean shirt when you have one. You almost forget to sleep, and when you do try to you can't--because the avalanche has started, and it keeps going night and day. And people say: 'Why don't you stop sometime? Why don't you forget about it now and then? Why don't you take a few days off?' And you don't do it because you can't--you can't stop yourself--and even if you could you'd be afraid to because there'd be all that hell to go through getting started up again. Then people say you're a glutton for work, but it isn't so. It's laziness--just plain, damned, simple laziness, that's all...Napoleon--and--and Balzac--and Thomas Edison--these fellows who never sleep more than an hour or two at a time, and can keep going night and day--why that's not because they love to work! It's because they're really lazy--and afraid not to work because they know they're lazy! Why, hell yes!..I'll bet you anything you like if you could really find out what's going on in old Edison's mind, you'd find that he wished he could ~ Thomas Wolfe
Glutton quotes by Thomas Wolfe
Gussie, a glutton for punishment, stared at himself in the mirror. ~ P.G. Wodehouse
Glutton quotes by P.G. Wodehouse
Now that I think about it, you'd have to be a glutton for punishment to keep coming near me given my acerbic personality where you're concerned. (Tory) ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Glutton quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Sufficient for the day is all that we can enjoy. We cannot eat or drink or wear more than the day's supply of food and raiment; the surplus gives us the care of storing it, and the anxiety of watching against a thief. One staff aids a traveller, but a bundle of staves is a heavy burden. Enough is not only as good as a feast, but is all that the greatest glutton can truly enjoy. This is all that we should expect; a craving for more than this is ungrateful. When our Father does not give us more, we should be content with his daily allowance. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Glutton quotes by Charles Spurgeon
You should learn to relish the hunger more than the feast, lest you become a glutton. ~ Neal Shusterman
Glutton quotes by Neal Shusterman
I think it backfired. It wasn't what I expected, it was difficult. I didn't expect them to throw somany mind games into it. I didn't expect to be so emotional, but I asked for it really. I'ma glutton for punishment. ~ Sophie Anderton
Glutton quotes by Sophie Anderton
No matter what I attempt, even if it's the most simple of tasks, it always ends in failure. Unfortunately, I find that my life is one big regret after another. Yet, after all these years, I still don't know when to give up. Is it my fault to keep trying when the results are always the same? Is it impossible for me to make things right? Even if I'd try to give up, I don't think I could. It's not in my nature to sumbit in the face of disappointment. In the end, I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment. I really am an idiot ... ~ Katsura Hoshino
Glutton quotes by Katsura Hoshino
She is the epitome of injustice, is my mistress. I never sulk, I am no glutton, and at that time I was barely thirty years of age, although to a fourteen-year-old anyone above twenty is an ancient, and I admit that, when it comes to food, I do have the refined tastes of a connoisseur. ~ Wilbur Smith
Glutton quotes by Wilbur Smith
I write to tame and organise the thoughts that bubble in my head. I write for the part of me that's inconsolable and don't have the hands or the talent for painting, pottery or the piano. I write because it's proven more effective than screaming to communicate my personal truths. I write because publication provides the perfect payback for a painful childhood and because I'm addicted to alliteration, a glutton for grammar and ruled by the rule of three. I continue writing to discover where my imagination will take me; because if I stopped, I'd no longer be me. ~ Anne Goodwin
Glutton quotes by Anne Goodwin
For as long as he had lived, everything had been provided for him. Answers to his questions, entertainment to sate his whims. Almost by accident, he had become a glutton. ~ Brandon Sanderson
Glutton quotes by Brandon Sanderson
Oh, right. I doubt this place has any delicious, fattening fast-food places, and maybe the Imperium doesn't either. Yup, no McDonald's, no Burger King, no Gino's Pizza… Dear God, have I made a mistake coming here? I may be of small stature, but make no mistake: I am a glutton. On the other hand – possible franchise opportunity. ~ Giselle Simlett
Glutton quotes by Giselle Simlett
To win the good-will of the people thou governest there are two things, among others, that thou must do; one is to be civil to all (this, however, I told thee before), and the other to take care that food be abundant, for there is nothing that vexes the heart of the poor more than hunger and high prices. Make not many proclamations; but those thou makest take care that they be good ones, and above all that they be observed and carried out; for proclamations that are not observed are the same as if they did not exist; nay, they encourage the idea that the prince who had the wisdom and authority to make them had not the power to enforce them; and laws that threaten and are not enforced come to be like the log, the king of the frogs, that frightened them at first, but that in time they despised and mounted upon. Be a father to virtue and a stepfather to vice. Be not always strict, nor yet always lenient, but observe a mean between these two extremes, for in that is the aim of wisdom. Visit the gaols, the slaughter-houses, and the market-places; for the presence of the governor is of great importance in such places; it comforts the prisoners who are in hopes of a speedy release, it is the bugbear of the butchers who have then to give just weight, and it is the terror of the market-women for the same reason. Let it not be seen that thou art (even if perchance thou art, which I do not believe) covetous, a follower of women, or a glutton; for when the people and those that have deal ~ Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Glutton quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
I am a glutton for tranquility. ~ Wole Soyinka
Glutton quotes by Wole Soyinka
Wesley was playing Soulcalibur IV. And because I'm a glutton for punishment, I'd challenged him.
My God, I had to find something I could beat him at!
And you know, something about beating the shit out of an animated character really made me feel better. Before I knew it, I wasn't even worried about Mom or Dad. Things would be okay. They had to be. I just had to be patient and let things happen. And in the meantime, I had to kick Wesley's ass… or try, at least. ~ Kody Keplinger
Glutton quotes by Kody Keplinger
I shook my head. "You know I ain't never going to be good enough for her. She can't fall in love with me, you know as well as I do that nothing good is going to come of her staying with me."
"Then why do you stay with her? Why, if you seem to think that this is a bad idea, do you stay with her?"
I raked my fingers through my hair. "I don't know! Maybe I'm stupid? A glutton for punishment."
Jackson pointed his beer at me. "Or maybe you love her too and that scares the shit out of you. ~ Magan Vernon
Glutton quotes by Magan Vernon
I'm Perfect at Feelings,

so I have no problem telling you

why you cried over the third lost

metal or the mousetrap. I knew

that orgasms weren't your fault

and that feeling of keeping solid

in yourself but wanting an ecstatic

black hole was just bad beauty.

Certain loves were perfect

in the daytime and had every

right to express carnally behind

the copy machine and there are

no hard feelings for the boozy

sodomy and sorry XX daisy chain,

whenever it felt right for you.

And when the moment of soft

levitation with erasing hands

made you feel dirty, like

the main person to think up love

in the first place, I knew that.

It's okay, you're an innocent

with the brilliance of an animal

stuffing yourself sick on a kill.

Don't, don't feel like the runt alien

on my ship: I get you. I know

the dimensions of your wishing

and losing and don't think you

a glutton with petty beefs. But

even I, who know your triggers,

your emblematic sacs of sad fury,

I understand why the farthest fat trees

sliver down with your disappointment

and why the big sense of the world,

wrong before you, shrugs but

somewhere grasps your spinning,

stunning, alone. But you have me. ~ Brenda Shaughnessy
Glutton quotes by Brenda Shaughnessy
The glutton cannot turn his mind to God," he said dismissively. "But neither can the starving man. ~ Katherine Arden
Glutton quotes by Katherine Arden
Why was it that her temper and her thinking never happened at the same time? Her temper behaved like a glutton sitting in an expensive restaurant ordering a hundred dishes, only to disappear when the bill came due. It left her lucid mind to do dishes. ~ Ann Brashares
Glutton quotes by Ann Brashares
Food is not to enjoy. That's not the reason why you're eating it. That's why the Glutton eats. But someone who's serious about maintaining their health - they eat for health. We're literally digging our graves with our teeth. ~ Hamza Yusuf
Glutton quotes by Hamza Yusuf
She was the one person he'd hoped to avoid as much as possible when he'd taken his place as Sheriff of Maxville. It wasn't that he disliked her, that was the problem. Despite his better judgment and a glutton for punishment, he still cared too damn much for the woman. ~ Lia Davis
Glutton quotes by Lia Davis
Hearing politicians tell us we can't afford a tax cut is like listening to a glutton tell you he can't afford a diet. In no other context do people talk about paying for money they don't have. I can't pay for your refusal to give me money because I need a yacht. ~ Ann Coulter
Glutton quotes by Ann Coulter
Personally, I like to yearn a little and long for the next episode. On the other hand, I'm also a glutton. My kids love to dive in and eat whole series at once. ~ Jenji Kohan
Glutton quotes by Jenji Kohan
We were looking for opportunities to share the message with people who wouldn't be caught in a church - unless they were wheeled in via a casket! Matthew 11: 19 says this of Jesus: "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."'  " Jesus didn't get that kind of reputation from hanging out only in temples and church buildings. Going to a bar or pool hall doesn't mean you're a drunk, just like sitting in a henhouse doesn't make you a chicken. It's the same in the opposite setting. Sitting in a church building doesn't make you a follower of Christ. In fact, Acts 17: 24 says: "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands." God lives in heaven and in the hearts of men and women on earth. Misunderstanding this principle is one of the reasons so many people act one way in a church building and the total opposite everywhere else. ~ Jase Robertson
Glutton quotes by Jase Robertson
Who sees his true-love in her naked bed,
Teaching the sheets a whiter hue than white,
But when his glutton eye so full hath fed,
His other agents aim at like delight?
Who is so faint that dare not be so bold
To touch the fire, the weather being cold? ~ William Shakespeare
Glutton quotes by William Shakespeare
The greatest masters have only made single statues, groups are always inferior; that is why Carpeaux, big though he was, is less so than Rodin, for he never knew how to make single statues. He did not know how to find his rhythm in the arrangement of the shapes of one body, but obtained it by the disposition of several. The great sculptors are there to prove it. Think of the masterpieces which we like most, all standing or seated, and one at a time, and they are not in the least monotonous. The connoisseur loves one spicy cake, but the glutton requires at least six to stimulate his pleasure. ~ H.S. Ede
Glutton quotes by H.S. Ede
I'm a bit of a glutton - I eat too much of all that is good to eat. ~ Rene Redzepi
Glutton quotes by Rene Redzepi
After eating, an epicure gives a thin smile of satisfaction; a gastronome, burping into his napkin, praises the food in a magazine; a gourmet, repressing his burp, criticizes the food in the same magazine; a gourmand belches happily and tells everybody where he ate; a glutton empraces the white porcelain alter, or more plainly, he barfs. ~ William Safire
Glutton quotes by William Safire
Life at sea is hard. And often deadly. (Morgan)
Then why do you do it? (Serenity)
Because we love it. (Morgan)
A glutton for punishment, aren't you? (Serenity) ~ Kinley MacGregor
Glutton quotes by Kinley MacGregor
Gluttony is a great fault; but we do not necessarily dislike a glutton. We only dislike the glutton when he becomes a gourmet-that is, we only dislike him when he not only wants the best for himself, but knows what is best for other people. ~ Gilbert K. Chesterton
Glutton quotes by Gilbert K. Chesterton
Who hastens a glutton choakes him. ~ George Herbert
Glutton quotes by George Herbert
Fifteen years later, in 1601, Thomas Wright's The Passions of the Minde was devoted to showing man how wretched he had become through his inability to control his passions. This study, designed to help man know himself in all his depravity, emphasised sin rather than salvation, claiming that the animal passions prevented reason, rebelled against virtue and, like 'thornie briars sprung from the infected roote of original sinne', caused mental and physical ill health.20 Despite its punitive message, the book went into further editions in 1604, 1620, 1621 and 1628, suggesting that the seventeenth-century reader was a glutton for punishment. ~ Catharine Arnold
Glutton quotes by Catharine Arnold
One could say that someone who does nothing but wait is like a glutton whose digestive system processes great masses of food without extracting any useful nourishment. One could go further and say that just as undigested food does not strengthen a man, time spent in waiting does not age him. ~ Thomas Mann
Glutton quotes by Thomas Mann
She'd never thought of herself quite that way. She was more an idiosyncratic ignorer of established boundaries than a glutton for the new and the uncharted. But perhaps they were one and the same, each one implying the other. ~ Sherry Thomas
Glutton quotes by Sherry Thomas
I'm just a glutton for spas and messages. And I love to surf and hike. ~ Carolyn Murphy
