Where one, without fault is placed under circumstances sufficient to excite the fears of it reasonable man that another designs to commit it felony, or some great bodily injury upon him, and to afford grounds for reasonable belief that there is imminent clanger of the accomplishment of his design, lie may, acting under these fears alone, slay his assailant and be justified by the appearances. And as where the attack is sudden and the danger inuninent, lie may increase his peril by retreat; so situated, he may stand his ground ... and .slay his aggressor, even if it he proved lie might more easily have gained by Jli~rht. ~ Richard Maxwell Brown
Felony quotes by Richard Maxwell Brown
We have one of our priests in prison right now, Steve Kelly, for his antiwar actions, and three of us in the community are forbidden to visit him because we're all convicted felons. ~ Daniel Berrigan
Felony quotes by Daniel Berrigan
The matter, Sebastian, is that you're a minor. What we've just done... what I've just done... it's against the law. It's a felony, for God's sake! ~ Jane Harvey-Berrick
Felony quotes by Jane Harvey-Berrick
If a person who indulges in gluttony is a glutton, and a person who commits a felony is a felon, then God is an iron. ~ Spider Robinson
Felony quotes by Spider Robinson
Defenders of the prosecution seem to think that anyone charged with a felony must somehow deserve punishment. That idea can only be sustained without actual exposure to the legal system. Yes, most of the time prosecutors do chase actual wrongdoers, but today our criminal laws are so expansive that most people of any vigor and spirit can be found to violate them in some way. Basically, under American law, anyone interesting is a felon. The prosecutors, not the law, decide who deserves punishment.

Today, prosecutors feel they have license to treat leakers of information like crime lords or terrorists. In an age when our frontiers are digital, the criminal system threatens something intangible but incredibly valuable. It threatens youthful vigor, difference in outlook, the freedom to break some rules and not be condemned or ruined for the rest of your life. ~ Tim Wu
Felony quotes by Tim Wu
Federal law prohibits anyone convicted of a felony from owning a gun. Seems like kind of a good idea, no? ~ Timothy Noah
Felony quotes by Timothy Noah
If you are passed out drunk or if there is a gun to your head, it is the same crime. It is a crime where there is not consent. It is a felony. And we need to start making sure victims understand that, so they don't do the self blame. ~ Claire McCaskill
Felony quotes by Claire McCaskill
The phone rang, picked up, and the same male voice announced, "Chris Powers."
"Hey there, Chris. Are you aware it's a felony to make threats over the phone?"
To give Powers his fair due, he got over his shock within a split second. "Try it, asshole. I dare you. My lawyers will have you for lunch." He clicked off again.
I did what any red-blooded American male would do. I called my big, ex-cop ex-boyfriend. ~ Josh Lanyon
Felony quotes by Josh Lanyon

Felony quotes by Gabriela Mistral
Yeah, I lost court cases and misdemeanor juries, but of felony jury trials I was successful 105 of 106 times. ~ Vincent Bugliosi
Felony quotes by Vincent Bugliosi
bit of inaccurate information that somehow concerned crop or commodity market information or conditions. It does not matter whether you sent that message by telephone or mail or telegraph. It does not matter who you sent that letter to. It does not matter whether the information was actually false, or merely misleading. It does not matter whether your note actually had any effect on market prices anywhere, or even whether you intended for it to have that effect. The way this law was written by the morons in Congress, you are guilty of a felony if you send a postcard to your grandmother in a nursing home, trying to make her feel better by lying about how nice the weather has been in Florida, or how low the gas prices have been. And you will not find this law in Title 18 either; this one is buried in the bowels of Title 7 (sec. 13), which lists the laws supposedly regulating "Agriculture." Even ~ James Duane
Felony quotes by James Duane
Federal law currently prohibits landlords from discriminating against prospective tenants who have had a felony conviction for drug use. Why? Because drug or alcohol abuse is considered a disability. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD): "An individual with a disability is any person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. The term physical or mental impairment may include, but is not limited to, conditions such as visual or hearing impairment, mobility impairment, HIV infection, mental retardation, drug addiction (except current illegal use of or addiction to drugs), or mental illness."[ii] ~ Brandon Turner
Felony quotes by Brandon Turner
What happens once you get a felony conviction? Now you are entering this American caste system where you can't get a job, you can't get a loan, you can't get a Pell grant, you can't get public housing. ~ Cory Booker
Felony quotes by Cory Booker
Alcohol is decisiveness juice. It's also bad idea punch, intellect intoxicant, insolence nectar, fighting fluid, boastfulness booze, smartass sauce, injury water, aggressiveness aqua vitae, felony-committin' firewater, and, of course, maybe above all else...depression drink. ~ Aaron Goldfarb
Felony quotes by Aaron Goldfarb
All presumptive evidence of felony should be admitted cautiously; for the law holds it better that ten guilty persons escape, than that one innocent party suffer. ~ William Blackstone
Felony quotes by William Blackstone
In the opening paragraph Goldi commits felony breaking and entering. Why does she do it? Why does she risk five to ten in the slammer or death by bear claw? ~ Kendall Haven
Felony quotes by Kendall Haven
The man was a walking felony, it should be illegal for someone to look and smell as good as he did; especially considering he was such an asshole. "Uh - I'm ~ Cassia Brightmore
Felony quotes by Cassia Brightmore
Publishers are humane men, and rarely commit crimes. Authors, however, are a hardened set, who usually perpertrate a felony every time they issue a book. ~ Robert Barr
Felony quotes by Robert Barr
It seems proper, at all events, that by an early enactment similar to that of other countries the application of public money by an officer of Government to private uses should be made a felony and visited with severe and ignominious punishment. ~ Martin Van Buren
Felony quotes by Martin Van Buren
Twenty-six billion dollars of fraud: no felony cases. But when the stakes are in the hundreds of dollars, we kick in 26,000 doors a year, in just one county. ~ Matt Taibbi
Felony quotes by Matt Taibbi
In these days of widespread illiteracy, functional illiteracy ... anything that keeps people stupid is a felony. ~ Harlan Ellison
Felony quotes by Harlan Ellison
In fact the marriage has been arranged by heaven and Hercule Poirot. All I have to do is to compound a felony. ~ Agatha Christie
Felony quotes by Agatha Christie
You do realize trying to bribe an officer is a felony, right?"

She cocked a brow at him as she slid her helmet back over her head and slipped her sunglasses on, starting the engine. "Who said anything about bribing you? Maybe I was trying to poison you. ~ T.J. Kline
Felony quotes by T.J. Kline
The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. She likes masculine admiration, however violently expressed, and is quite able to take care of herself. More, she is well aware that very few men are bold enough to offer it without a plain invitation, and this awareness makes her extremely cynical of all women who complain of being harassed, beset, storied, and seduced. All the more intelligent women that I know, indeed, are unanimously of the opinion that no girl in her right senses has ever been actually seduced since the world began; ~ H.L. Mencken
Felony quotes by H.L. Mencken
They [illegal immigrants] broke the law, but it's not a felony, it's an act of love. It's an act of commitment to your family. ~ Jeb Bush
Felony quotes by Jeb Bush
If you haven't said 'I love you' to someone today, do it. You won't always be happy, but you should try to be. Don't be too afraid of germs. Those people have no fun. Remember to look around sometimes. You might see something you haven't seen before or at the very least avoid being hit by a flying object. Speaking of flying objects, don't spend your life looking for extraterrestrial life, unless you work for NASA. Remember that you always have to cooperate with someone. Life is an endless negotiation. Play fair. Stay out of jail. Don't live in the past. Eat breakfast. It really is the most important meal of the day. Try to make new friends, even when you think you're too old to do that ... And finally, remember this 'Yes' is always a better work than 'no'. Unless, of course, someone has just asked you to commit a felony. ~ Lisa Lutz
Felony quotes by Lisa Lutz
It's not an embarrassment. Embarrassment fades. This is a black mark. You might as well have committed a felony, Caroline, and all because you didn't use your head."

'Nate is the one who posted the pictures.'

"And you're the one who let him take them."

'I trusted him.'

He makes a disgusted sound. Looks away from me. ~ Robin York
Felony quotes by Robin York
Forty-eight states and the District of Columbia prohibit inmates from voting while incarcerated for a felony offense. Only two states - Maine and Vermont - permit inmates to vote. The vast majority of states continue to withhold the right to vote when prisoners are released on parole. Even after the term of punishment expires, some states deny the right to vote for a period ranging from a number of years to the rest of one's life.

This is far from the norm in other countries - like Germany, for instance, which allows (and even encourages) prisoners to vote. In fact, about half of European countries allow all incarcerated people to vote, while others disqualify only a small number of prisoners from the polls. Prisoners vote either in their correctional facilities or by some version of absentee ballot in their town of previous residence. Almost all of the countries that place some restrictions on voting in prison are in Eastern Europe, part of the former Communist bloc.

No other country in the world disenfranchises people who are released from prison in a manner even remotely resembling the United States. In fact, the United Nations Human Rights Committee has charged that U.S. disenfranchisement policies are discriminatory and violate international law. In those few European countries that permit limited postprison disqualification, the sanction is very narrowly tailored and the number of people disenfranchised is probably in the dozens or hundreds. In th ~ Michelle Alexander
Felony quotes by Michelle Alexander
Australia is not very exclusive. On the visa application they still ask if you've been convicted of a felony - although they are willing to give you a visa even if you haven't been. ~ P. J. O'Rourke
Felony quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
All things in common nature should produce
Without sweat or endeavour. Treason, felony,
Sword, pike, knife, gun, or need of any engine,
Would I not have; but nature should bring forth,
Of it own kind, all foison, all abundance,
To feed my innocent people. ~ William Shakespeare
Felony quotes by William Shakespeare
Anything less than the best is a felony. ~ Vanilla Ice
Felony quotes by Vanilla Ice
People with felony convictions - pending felony convictions should not be able to buy gun, but they should be able to stay in sanctuary cities, if they're illegal, if they cross the border. ~ Eric Bolling
Felony quotes by Eric Bolling
It's kind of funny to me listening to people who claim to have these great records of winning a hundred and some odd straight felony cases without a loss and that kind of stuff that you hear of all the time. I'm here to tell you, if you let me pick out which hundred cases I get to try, I'll win a hundred of them in a row, too. Case selection is everything in creating records like that. My philosophy was, I tried them all. If I made a determination that the evidence was sufficient to justify the prosecution, then I would try the case, and certainly whenever you do that, you're going to lose a certain percentage of them. ~ Mark Baker
Felony quotes by Mark Baker
Making a movie like 'Felony' is hard work because you're really putting your own ideas on the screen. You can't hide behind some other person's script; you're saying, 'This is my brain, and I want you to know what I think'.' ~ Joel Edgerton
Felony quotes by Joel Edgerton
Sometimes, to help someone you love, you have to commit a felony. But, you don't want to go to prison for that. Hey, dude, what are you in for? Armed robbery? Murder? And then, you have to say, Love. And, that's definitely going to get you, you know, picked last for prison kick ball. ~ Christopher Titus
Felony quotes by Christopher Titus
Herbert said of himself, with his eyes fixed on the fire, that he thought he must have committed a felony and forgotten the details of it, he felt so dejected and guilty. ~ Charles Dickens
Felony quotes by Charles Dickens
I think it's easy to stop smoking; it's just hard not to commit a felony after you stop. ~ David Foster Wallace
Felony quotes by David Foster Wallace
One commentator explained, African American women in poor neighborhoods are torn. They worry about their young sons getting involved in gang activity. They worry about their sons possibly selling or using drugs. They worry about their children getting caught in the crossfire of warring gangs ... These mothers want better crime and law enforcement. Yet, they understand that increased levels of law enforcement potentially saddle their children with a felony conviction - a mark that can ensure economic and social marginalization. ~ Michelle Alexander
Felony quotes by Michelle Alexander
Girl, you're a vampire. This day and age, everything you do is a felony. ~ Chloe Neill
Felony quotes by Chloe Neill
I've never been accused of a felony. I never spent time behind bars except for a few overnight jail times back in the Sixties. [But] I think there's a little bit of a criminal in all of us. Everybody's done something they don't want anybody to know about. ~ Johnny Cash
Felony quotes by Johnny Cash
I suppose I shall have to compound a felony, as usual. ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
Felony quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Little white lies are part of everyday life. If you're in court being charged with a felony, you're probably going to be tempted to lie. Or if your girlfriend asks you if the sweater she is wearing makes her look fat; you're going to lie because you love that person. There are different reasons and justifications to lie; it's human nature. ~ Monica Raymund
Felony quotes by Monica Raymund
And I will make it felony to drink small beer. ~ William Shakespeare
Felony quotes by William Shakespeare
Myron lay sprawled next to a knee-knockingly gorgeous brunette clad only in a Class-B-felony bikini, a tropical drink sans umbrella in one hand, the aqua clear Caribbean water lapping at his feet, the sand a dazzling white powder, the sky a pure blue that could only be God's blank canvas, the sun a soothing and rich as a Swedish masseur with a snifter of cognac, and he was intensely miserable. ~ Harlan Coben
Felony quotes by Harlan Coben
more. Lee had done this so many times that he could have closed his eyes and his fingers would carry on, manipulating his tools of felony with enviable precision. Lee had already ~ David Baldacci
Felony quotes by David Baldacci
To some, caring is a felony. ~ Efrat Cybulkiewicz
Felony quotes by Efrat Cybulkiewicz
How dare you make my life a felony. ~ Sandra Day O'Connor
Felony quotes by Sandra Day O'Connor
Once a person is labeled a felon, he or she is ushered into a parallel universe in which discrimination, stigma, and exclusion are perfectly legal, and privileges of citizenship such as voting and jury service are off-limits. It does not matter whether you have actually spent time in prison; your second-class citizenship begins the moment you are branded a felon. Most people branded felons, in fact, are not sentenced to prison. As of 2008, there were approximately 2.3 million people in prisons and jails, and a staggering 5.1 million people under 'community correctional supervision' - i.e., on probation or parole. Merely reducing prison terms does not have a major impact on the majority of people in the system. It is the badge of inferiority - the felony record - that relegates people for their entire lives, to second-class status. ~ Michelle Alexander
Felony quotes by Michelle Alexander
If the great figures of this nation's history were alive today, they would all have to say that they committed a felony when they applied for a job at McDonald's. ~ Justin King
Felony quotes by Justin King
You know something is wrong when the government declares opening someone else's mail is a felony but your internet activity is fair game for data collecting. ~ E.A. Bucchianeri
Felony quotes by E.A. Bucchianeri
I have two choices: attend my sister's dinner party or tie a plastic sack around my mother's head until she runs out of ngagging. I choose the evil that doesn't come witha felony conviction. ~ Alex Adams
Felony quotes by Alex Adams
Yes, and let's make sure every American gets a puberty ceremony, an impressive welcome to the rights and duties of grown-ups. As matters now stand, only practicing Jews get those. The only way the rest of us can feel like grown-ups is to get pregnant or get somebody else pregnant or commit a felony or go to war and then come back again. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Felony quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
For this entire walk, my desire had ashamed me, as if my wanting to be kissed that night mitigated the fault of Junior's sudden deafness. I'd been given stacks of reasons to blame myself for an act of violence committed by another. I had blamed my flirting for his subsequent felony. My college taught me: my rape was my shame. Everyone I'd trusted asked only what I might have done to let it happen.

In my gut, I'd always believed I'd caused it.

I finally questioned it. ~ Aspen Matis
Felony quotes by Aspen Matis
Hillary Clinton says nobody should be deported that entered illegally unless they commit a violent felony, which is an argument for open borders and American people reject that. ~ Jeff Sessions
Felony quotes by Jeff Sessions
Mental health courts exist because the system has failed.
If these people were being treated,
they wouldn't end up with misdemeanor charges or
felony charges against them in the first place.
The very existence of mental health courts is really an
indication of the system's failure. ~ E. Fuller Torrey
Felony quotes by E. Fuller Torrey
I think bad taste should be a felony. ~ Margo Kaufman
Felony quotes by Margo Kaufman
Sometimes, to help the people you love, you've gotta commit a felony. ~ Christopher Titus
Felony quotes by Christopher Titus
If all of your friends are morons is it a
felony, a misdemeanor or an act of God if
you blow their fucking heads off with a
thirty-eight magnum? ~ Bret Easton Ellis
