The fragility of crystal is not a weakness but a fineness. My parents understood that fine crystal glass had to be cared for or may be shattered. But when it came to my brother, they didn't seem to know or care that their course of their secret action brought the kind of devastation that could cut them. Their fraudulent marriage and our father's denial of his other son was for Chris a murder of every day's truth. He felt his whole life turned like a river suddenly reversing the direction of its flow. Suddenly running uphill. These revelations struck at the core of Chris's sense of identity. They made his entire childhood seem like fiction. Chris never told them he knew and made me promise silence as well. ~ Jon Krakauer
Chris Mccandless quotes by Jon Krakauer
At that stage of my youth, death remained as abstract a concept as non-Euclidean geometry or marriage. I didn't yet appreciate its terrible finality or the havoc it could wreak on those who'd entrusted the deceased with their hearts. I was stirred by the dark mystery of mortality. I couldn't resist stealing up to the edge of doom and peering over the brink. The hint of what was concealed in those shadows terrified me, but I caught sight of something in the glimpse, some forbidden and elemental riddle that was no less compelling than the sweet, hidden petals of a woman's sex.
In my case - and, I believe, in the case of Chris McCandless - that was a very different thing from wanting to die. ~ Jon Krakauer
Chris Mccandless quotes by Jon Krakauer
Driving west out of Atlanta, he intended to invent an utterly new life for himself, one in which he would be free to wallow in unfiltered experience. To symbolize the complete severance from his previous life, he even adopted a new name. No longer would he answer to Chris McCandless; he was now Alexander Such ertramp, master of his own destiny. ~ Jon Krakauer
Chris Mccandless quotes by Jon Krakauer
I have a college education. I'm not destitute. I'm living like this by choice. ~ Alexander Supertramp Chris McCandless
Chris Mccandless quotes by Alexander Supertramp Chris McCandless
Don't settle down and sit in one place. Move around be nomadic, make each day a new horizon.
-Chris McCandless ~ Jon Krakauer
Chris Mccandless quotes by Jon Krakauer
Just get out and do it. Just get out and do it. ~ Alexander Supertramp Chris McCandless
Chris Mccandless quotes by Alexander Supertramp Chris McCandless
I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here. I am all alone. This is no joke. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless. ~ Christopher McCandless
Chris Mccandless quotes by Christopher McCandless
S.O.S. I NEED YOUR HELP. I AM INJURED, NEAR DEATH, AND TOO WEAK TO HIKE OUT OF HERE. I AM ALL ALONE, THIS IS NO JOKE. IN THE NAME OF GOD, PLEASE REMAIN TO SAVE ME. I AM OUT COLLECTING BERRIES CLOSE BY AND SHALL RETURN THIS EVENING. THANK YOU, CHRIS MCCANDLESS. AUGUST? ~ Jon Krakauer
Chris Mccandless quotes by Jon Krakauer
Freedom from the thinking mind is our underlying goal for most of human activity. ~ Chris Matakas
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Matakas
I think in general, it's just an interesting age to be at, after college. You spend so much of your life, being on this academic trajectory - and then when it's done - all of a sudden the whole world is maybe open to you. But you're the one that's really in charge of your path. And that can be a really scary thing, I think. ~ Chris Baio
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Baio
Chris smiled at me, showing two ridiculously cute dimples and a few feet away a waitress dropped an empty cup she had cleared from a table. Blushing, she muttered an apology and hurried inside.

I scowled at him, refusing to be swayed by his charm.

"I see," he murmured, nodding slightly as if he had just solved a puzzle.
"See what?" Ignoring my question, he pulled out a cell phone, hit a number and held the phone out to me. I hesitated for a few seconds then took the phone and put it to my ear.
"What's up, Chris?" said a familiar deep voice on the other end.
"Good question," I responded tersely.
"I told Chris you'd recognize him if he got too close." Was that amusement in his tone?
"Great. You won the bet. Buy him a beer or whatever." I glanced at Chris, saw that he looked amused now, too and I grew even more agitated. "I thought we had an understanding when you left here last week."
"And what understanding would that be?" I gritted my teeth. "The one where you go your way and I go mine and we all live happily ever after."
"I don't recall that particular arrangement," he replied in his infuriatingly easy manner. "I believe I told you I'd be seeing you again."
I opened my mouth but words would not come out. People say 'I'll be seeing you' all the time when they say good bye. It doesn't mean anything. It certainly doesn't mean they will send their friends to stalk you.
"Sara?"
"What do you want from me, Niko ~ Karen Lynch
Chris Mccandless quotes by Karen Lynch
While on the space station, I kept up with news a couple of ways - Mission Control sent daily summaries, and I would scan headlines on Google News when we had an Internet connection, which was about half the time. ~ Chris Hadfield
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Hadfield
The desktop held a patina of hieroglyphs representing years of student boredom - names and initials gouged into the wood, blackened by grime and pencil, shellacked over, then cobwebbed again with another generation's imprint. ~ Chris Offutt
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Offutt
My premise is that there's something hardwired into our DNA, that we as a species came and evolved from caves and clans and tribes, and therefore, we as a species care more about the things that are local to us than we care about the things that are 'over there' from us. ~ Chris Milk
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Milk
People say, 'Why is he bored with her?' Because he's a human being, that's why; same way his wife is bored with him. That is marriage - anything that's supposed to be forever, your going to get bored with it. And there is nothing wrong with it, so don't take it personal; if you are with somebody for ten years and they are not bored with you? Then something is wrong with them. ~ Chris Rock
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Rock
People are always nice; I never get anything mean said to me on the street. ~ Chris Lilley
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Lilley
Life is brought down to the basics: if you are warm, regular, healthy, not thirsty or hungry, then you are not on a mountain ... Climbing at altitude is like hitting your head against a brick wall - it's great when you stop. ~ Chris Darwin
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Darwin
Sometimes, when you see the newspaper and you read something I said, you say, 'Oh, I can't believe he said that.' ~ Chris Christie
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Christie
I've been a huge fan of Chris Martin forever; it'd be awesome to work with him. He's really kind, and he's been really encouraging when we've met. ~ Taylor Swift
Chris Mccandless quotes by Taylor Swift
I don't like to get scared - it's not one of the emotions I enjoy. So I have to assume that if there are scary things in my books, they aren't very scary. ~ Chris Van Allsburg
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Van Allsburg
Perhaps strength doesn't reside in having never been broken, but in the courage required to grow strong in the broken places. - Kristen ~ Carine McCandless
Chris Mccandless quotes by Carine McCandless
Right now, my job is that I'm like an ambulance chaser. I've got to look for movies with white guys falling out of them. ~ Chris Rock
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Rock
Brystal understood what Madame Weatherberry was saying, her plan seemed too ambitious to work. The world would require a tremendous change of heart to accept magic, and she couldn't picture the world changing that much.
"I'm sorry, but it feels like an unrealistic goal," she said. "I'd like to imagine a world where fairies can live openly and honestly, where they can live happily without fear or persecution, but I can't."
"Every accomplishment in history started as an unrealistic goal," Madame Weatherberry said. "A prosperous future is built by the persistence of its past - and we can't let doubt hold our persistence hostage. What I'm suggesting isn't certain, and it isn't going to be easy, but we have to at least try. Even if we fail, every step we take forward will be a step our successors won't have to take. ~ Chris Colfer
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Colfer
Rugby may have many problems, but the gravest is undoubtedly that of the persistence of summer. ~ Chris Laidlaw
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Laidlaw
The biggest reward from that record was the enthusiasm everyone had to sing on it. The Grammy nominations and the chart positions are great, but ultimately the way you interact with other musicians is the most important thing to me. ~ Chris Botti
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Botti
Schoolwork came kind of natural to me, but when I brought home a grade that wasn't up to par, my parents let me know it. ~ Chris Bosh
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Bosh
What people intuitively grasped was the new efficiences in distribution, manufacturing, and marketing were changing the definition of what was commercially viable across the board. The best way to describe these forces is that they are turning unprofitable customers, products, and markets into profitable ones. Although this phenomenon is most obvious in entertainment and media, it's an easy leap to eBay to see it at work more broadly, from cars to crafts. Seen broadly, it's clear that the story of the Long Tail is really about the economics of abundance - what happens when the bottlenecks and stand between supply and demand in our culture start to disappear and everything becomes available to everyone. ~ Chris Anderson
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Anderson
I was hoping my life might make more sense from a great height. ~ Chris Cleave
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Cleave
Some people give off a scent of danger that the wise know and avoid and that the foolish are drawn to. ~ Chris Priestley
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Priestley
Seeking those elusive individuals is like mining for rare gems. It will take hard work, patience, and a persistent attitude. To find that rich seam of colourful stones, you will have to chip through dirt and rock. You will have to learn how to hold rubble in your hands and see the fortune inside. ~ Chris Murray
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Murray
These are the insidious monsters in our heads making us do ourselves in. ~ Chris Shelton
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Shelton
coming from the Iraqis, who were trying ~ Chris Kyle
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Kyle
Waiting for him I check behind me, to be sure I haven't accidentally activated my backup tank of oxygen, and that's when I notice the universe. The scale is graphically shocking. The colors, too. The incongruity is stupefying: there I was, inside a small box, but now - how is this possible? ~ Chris Hadfield
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Hadfield
I wasn't destined to be an astronaut. I had to turn myself into one. ~ Chris Hadfield
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Hadfield
As a filmmaker, you are constantly having the discussion with your team about whether something is "relatable". ~ Chris Milk
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris Milk
This is not the party of Reagan. Today the conservative movement took a backseat to liberal Democrats in the state of Mississippi. ~ Chris McDaniel
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris McDaniel
Everyone's been to school. Some schools are good but some are not. Waning Elementary School is probably the worst of them all. You might recognise some bits of your school in Waning E.S. Not all schools are perfect! ~ Chris O'Donoghue
Chris Mccandless quotes by Chris O'Donoghue
You Never Have To Worry About Forgetting Anything, If You Just Tell The Truth. ~ Chris Mentillo
