When a woman excels at her job, both male and female coworkers will remark that she may be accomplishing a lot, but is "not well-liked by her peers." She is probably also "too aggressive," "not a team player," "a bit political," "can't be trusted," or "difficult. ~ Sheryl Sandberg
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Sheryl Sandberg
This is my court and I control the balls on it. ~ Tracy Krimmer
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Tracy Krimmer
Ben is twenty-six, and this is his first job. He is small, weedy, and terribly, terribly serious about his work. His. Not anyone else's. He despises everyone else's. He has, however, produced our only literary fiction in the last two years that has sold over five thousand copies, so people listen to him. Which is a pity, since he doesn't really have anything to say. ~ Judith Flanders
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Judith Flanders
As you become aware of life, you will begin to see the root cause to all your actions and reactions. Then you will realize that you are not angry with the child because he made a mistake, but because you get pleasure out of being angry. The mistake was only a excuse. ~ Osho
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Osho
Many men no longer want to be identified just by their jobs, said Bengt Westerberg, the country's former deputy prime minister. ~ Emily Matchar
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Emily Matchar
Ah," said Lien Shu, "it is true that a blind person cannot appreciate beautiful patterns and forms, and the deaf cannot appreciate the music of bells and drums. Yet blindness and deafness do not only afflict people physically, they also exist in the minds and attitudes of people. ~ Zhuangzi
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Zhuangzi
The precise form of your fear will be different from everyone else's, but everyone has those fears, attitudes, and beliefs getting in the way of their leadership potential. ~ Nick Morgan
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Nick Morgan
Most Christian 'believers' tend to echo the cultural prejudices and worldviews of the dominant group in their country, with only a minority revealing any real transformation of attitudes or consciousness. It has been true of slavery and racism, classism and consumerism and issues of immigration and health care for the poor. ~ Richard Rohr
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Richard Rohr
PATTERNS OF THE "SHY"

What else is common among people who identify themselves as "shy?" Below are the results of a survey that was administered to 150 of my program's participants. The results of this informal survey reveal certain facts and attitudes common among the socially anxious. Let me point out that these are the subjective answers of the clients themselves - not the professional opinions of the therapists. The average length of time in the program for all who responded was eight months. The average age was twenty-eight. (Some of the answers are based on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being the lowest.)

-Most clients considered shyness to be a serious problem at some point in their lives. Almost everyone rated the seriousness of their problem at level 5, which makes sense, considering that all who responded were seeking help for their problem.
-60 percent of the respondents said that "shyness" first became enough of a problem that it held them back from things they wanted during adolescence; 35 percent reported the problem began in childhood; and 5 percent said not until adulthood. This answer reveals when clients were first aware of social anxiety as an inhibiting force.
-The respondents perceived the average degree of "sociability" of their parents was a 2.7, which translates to "fair"; 60 percent of the respondents reported that no other member of the family had a problem with "shyness"; and 40 percent said there was at least one other family ~ Jonathan Berent
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Jonathan Berent
Sports broadcasting is very open now. In the beginning you did encounter more traditional attitudes and get comments. But I'm talking about 12 years ago. ~ Kirsty Gallacher
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Kirsty Gallacher
you create your own personal experience of reality through your beliefs, expectations, attitudes, desires, fears, judgements, feelings, and consistent or persistent thoughts and actions. ~ Serge Kahili King
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Serge Kahili King
The way men are seen in photography, in fashion, and the way that men look at pictures of themselves has changed in recent years. It is a subject that has come into focus: The masculine image, a man's personal style, changing attitudes to the male face and body, ~ Mario Testino
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Mario Testino
The wishbone will never replace the backbone ~ Will Henry
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Will Henry
We move through places every day that would never have been if not for those who came before us. Our workplaces, where we spend so much time
we often think they began with our arrival. That's not true. ~ Mitch Albom
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Mitch Albom
Your attitude is either the lock on or key to your door of success. ~ Denis Waitley
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Denis Waitley
The workplace would allow parents to work part time, to share jobs, to take personal leaves to give birth, tend to a sick child, or care for a well one. As Delores Hayden has envisioned in Redesigning the American Dream, it would include affordable housing closer to places of work and perhaps community-based meal and laundry services. ~ Arlie Russell Hochschild
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Arlie Russell Hochschild
Man is about to be an automaton; he is identifiable only in the computer. As a person of worth and creativity, as a being with an infinite potential, he retreats and battles the forces that make him inhuman. The dissent we witness is a reaffirmation of faith in man; it is protest against living under rules and prejudices and attitudes that produce the extremes of wealth and poverty and that make us dedicated to the destruction of people through arms, bombs, and gases, and that prepare us to think alike and be submissive objects for the regime of the computer. ~ William O. Douglas
Workplace Attitudes quotes by William O. Douglas
I want a future where women and girls get to be the subject of their own sexuality, not the object of somebody else's. That we are the main characters in our own play, not props in somebody else's - which is how women's sexuality is treated now. Whatever the outside attitudes about sexuality it's always about somebody's agenda for us, and I want a world where we can have our own. ~ Jaclyn Friedman
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Jaclyn Friedman
Take students today They are in some ways freer than they were 60 years ago in their attitudes and commitments and so on. On the other hand they are more disciplined. They are disciplined by debt. Part of the reasoning for arranging education so you come out with heavy debt is so you are disciplined. Take the last 20 years - the neo-liberal years roughly - a very striking part of what is called "globalization" is just aimed at discipline. It wants to eliminate freedom of choice and impose discipline. How do you do that? Well, if you're a couple in the U.S. now, each working 50 hours a week to put food on the table, you don't have time to think about how to become a libertarian socialist. When what you are worried about is "how can I get food on the table?" or "I've got kids to take care of, and when they are sick I've got to go to work and what's going to happen to them?" Those are very well-designed techniques of imposing discipline. ~ Noam Chomsky
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Noam Chomsky
Maybe it wasn't rational, but she didn't like the idea of Leo invading her little world. Yesterday, Brooklyn had belonged to her. The Long Island 'burbs where she'd grown up had felt far away from the brick streets and renovated factory spaces of Brooklyn. In this job, she'd felt truly independent, putting down her own fragile roots in a new place.

Fast forward twenty-four hours, and her daddy had joined the workplace and her ex-boyfriend had shown up to remind her of all that she'd lost. Really, a girl could be forgiven for feeling slightly hysterical.

Not that there was any time to panic. ~ Sarina Bowen
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Sarina Bowen
It sometimes feels like the workplace is immune from social upheaval. We go to work and do the best we can, and at the end of the day, we return to our lives. We don't abandon who we are, however, when we begin and end our workday. Who we are shapes how we are perceived in the workplace and, in turn, how we perform in the workplace. ~ Roxane Gay
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Roxane Gay
What's proper workplace etiquette for picking up computer and tossing out window? Open window first or break glass? ~ Abigail Roux
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Abigail Roux
We as leaders are responsible for changes in our workplace, communities and homes beyond ourselves. We shouldn't just look at the bigger picture, as leaders we should also CREATE the bigger picture. ~ Janna Cachola
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Janna Cachola
The last of the human freedoms is to choose one's attitudes. ~ Viktor E. Frankl
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Viktor E. Frankl
The social institutions and attitudes inherited from earlier times and maintained with increasing rigidity made it difficult to adapt to changing circumstances or to create new political and economic institutions which would facilitate such an adaption. An attitude towards unbelievers that varied from condescension in good times, to hostility and mistrust in bad times, made it difficult to learn from them, or even to understand them, at a time when it was the West, and not as previously the Islamic world, that had something to teach. ~ Bernard Lewis
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Bernard Lewis
Political movements rest not so much on rational attitudes as on fantasies, images, words, and archetypes that come together to make up this or that political kitsch. ~ Milan Kundera
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Milan Kundera
... sitting on the sidewalk outside of his workplace like some creepy stalker ex-girlfriend, waiting for him to come out so I can ambush him with love. ~ Cynthia Hand
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Cynthia Hand
Mothers, your relationship with your daughter is of paramount importance, and so is your example. How you love and honor her father, his priesthood, and his divine role will be reflected and perhaps amplified in your daughter's attitudes and behavior. ~ Elaine S. Dalton
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Elaine S. Dalton
Bad Culture is the contaminated oxygen your staff breath, as they get indoctrinated by your limiting context. ~ Tony Dovale
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Tony Dovale
Sloanes aren't cafe society or NYLON hedge-funders with million-pound bonuses, or London Eurotrash wearing upgraded style anglais. Ann Barr's and my original picture of them in 'The Official Sloane Ranger Handbook,' published in 1982, was of an upper-middle-class world, conservative and fairly homogeneous, united by old attitudes and institutions. ~ Peter York
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Peter York
self-stigma is not a person's fault; nor is it a part of the person's illness!
If the public did not hold negative and stigmatizing attitudes in the first place, these would never have become internalized, causing people the painful and disabling experience of self-stigma. ~ Patrick W. Corrigan
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Patrick W. Corrigan
The data presented above does not exactly prove that a better workplace will help people to perform better. It may only indicate that people who perform better tend to gravitate toward organizations that provide a better workplace ~ Anonymous
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Anonymous
We must perpetually try to distinguish, however closely they get entwined by the subtle nature of the facts and by the secret importunity of our passions, those attitudes in a writer which we can honestly and confidently condemn as real evils, and those qualities in his writing which simply annoy and offend us as men of taste. ~ C.S. Lewis
Workplace Attitudes quotes by C.S. Lewis
The mother's and father's attitudes toward the child correspond to the child's own needs ... Mother has the function of making himsecure in life, father has the function of teaching him, guiding him to cope with those problems with which the particular society the child has been born into confronts him. ~ Erich Fromm
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Erich Fromm
Of course I'm not supposed to admit that there is triannual torrential sobbing in my office, because it's bad for the feminist cause. It makes it harder for women to be taken seriously in the workplace. It makes it harder for other working moms to justify their choice. But I have friends who stay home with their kids and they also have a triannual sob, so I think we should call it even. I think we should be kind to one another about it. I think we should agree to blame the children. ~ Tina Fey
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Tina Fey
It wasn't only my friends who suffered from female rivalry. I remember when I was just sixteen years old, during spring vacation, being whisked off to an early lunch by my best friend's brother, only to discover, to my astonishment and hurt, that she was expecting some college boys to drop by and didn't want me there to compete with her. When I started college at Sarah Lawrence, I soon noticed that while some of my classmates were indeed true friends, others seemed to resent that I had a boyfriend. It didn't help that Sarah Lawrence, a former girls' school, included very few straight men among its student body--an early lesson in how competing for items in short supply often brings out the worst in women.

In graduate school, the stakes got higher, and the competition got stiffer, a trend that continued when I went on to vie for a limited number of academic jobs. I always had friends and colleagues with whom I could have trusted my life--but I also found women who seemed to view not only me but all other female academics as their rivals.

This sense of rivalry became more painful when I divorced my first husband. Many of my friends I depended on for comfort and support suddenly began to view me as a threat. Some took me out to lunch to get the dirt, then dropped me soon after. I think they found it disturbing that I left my unhappy marriage while they were still committed to theirs. For other women, the threat seemed more immediate--twice I was told in ~ Susan Shapiro Barash
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Susan Shapiro Barash
Twenty-first-century attitudes towards time and our expectations of story are very different from the shape of Mary Anning's life. She spent day after day, year after year, doing the same thing on the beach. I have taken the events of her life and condensed them to fit into a narrative that is not stretched beyond the reader's patience. Hence events, while in order, do not always coincide exactly with actual dates and time spans. Plus, of course, I made up plenty. For instance, while there was gossip about Mary and Buckland and Mary and Birch, there was no proof. That is where only a novelist can step in. ~ Tracy Chevalier
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Tracy Chevalier
One of the things I find very little of in America - and certainly not on Broadway - are plays with political attitudes. ~ Michael Lindsay-Hogg
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Michael Lindsay-Hogg
Liberals say they are for civil liberties and personal freedom, but they continue to advocate government regulation of business, redistribution of wealth, and various forms of social engineering to manipulate human relationships and attitudes. ~ Richard Ebeling
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Richard Ebeling
Think positive thoughts! I can remember when I thought my thoughts didn't make much difference. After all, they were in my head and certainly weren't affecting anyone but me. I was wrong - and so are you if this is your attitude. Thoughts operate in the spiritual realm. You cannot see thoughts just as you cannot see angels, but they are real; they merely function in a realm not visible to the eye. Thoughts become words, attitudes, body language, facial expressions, and moods - and all of these affect the atmosphere we dwell in. ~ Joyce Meyer
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Joyce Meyer
The cotton was open and spilling into the fields; the very air smelled of it. In field after field as he passed along the pickers, arrested in stooping attitudes, seemed fixed amid the constant surf of bursting bolls like piles in surf, the long, partly-filled sacks streaming away behind them like rigid frozen flags. The air was hot, vivid and breathless
a final fierce concentration of the doomed and dying summer. ~ William Faulkner
Workplace Attitudes quotes by William Faulkner
It is necessary to observe yourself differently than you do in ordinary life. It is necessary to have a different attitude, not the attitude you had till now. You know where your habitual attitudes have led you till now. There is no sense in going on as before. ~ G.I. Gurdjieff
Workplace Attitudes quotes by G.I. Gurdjieff
I learned that you don't have to be saddled for life with the mental attitudes you adopted in early childhood. All of us are free to change our minds, and as we change our minds, our experiences will also change. ~ M.J. Ryan
Workplace Attitudes quotes by M.J. Ryan
She could not comprehend the attitudes of young people these days. Not that they needed understanding - young people were the same in every generation - but this cockiness, this refusal to take seriously the gravest questions of their lives, nettled and irritated her. Jean Louise was about to make the worst mistake of her life, and she glibly quoted those people at her, she mocked her. ~ Harper Lee
Workplace Attitudes quotes by Harper Lee
"Little Brother" sounds an optimistic warning. It extrapolates from current events to remind us of the ever-growing threats to liberty. But it also notes that liberty ultimately resides in our individual attitudes and
actions. In our increasingly authoritarian world, I especially hope that teenagers and young adults will read it - and then persuade their peers, parents and teachers to follow suit. ~ Dan Gillmor
