I still write in long hand. I type like a chimpanzee. ~ Pat Conroy
Type Writing quotes by Pat Conroy
For a creative person there's just as much pleasure in writing an eight-line poem as there is in writing a blockbuster play ... of the old '50s type. ~ Tennessee Williams
Type Writing quotes by Tennessee Williams
I know exactly what I want to write. I do not write until I do. Usually I write it all down only once. And that goes relatively quickly, since it really depends only on how fast I type. ~ Hannah Arendt
Type Writing quotes by Hannah Arendt
Early retirement, Dalton. Teach yourself to type with your toes and you
can start writing your memoirs. ~ Mark Allen Smith
Type Writing quotes by Mark Allen Smith
Whether you're writing television or movies, at some point you're going to encounter a male executive or investor who's going to say, 'I don't like that woman. She's unlikable.' And often, it's literally for being a regular human woman as opposed to an attracting human woman. ~ Jill Soloway
Type Writing quotes by Jill Soloway
A writer doesn't dream of riches and fame, though those things are nice. A true writer longs to leave behind a piece of themselves, something that withstands the test of time and is passed down for generations. ~ C.K. Webb
Type Writing quotes by C.K. Webb
It is difficult to ever see yourself. I don't know how I've developed or grown as a writer. I hope I am continuing to take risks on the page. I hope I am continuing to ask the hard questions of myself. If we are attentive to the world and to those around us, I believe we will be attentive on the page. Writing is about presence. I want to be fully present wherever I am, alive to the pulse just beneath the skin. ~ Terry Tempest Williams
Type Writing quotes by Terry Tempest Williams
Perhaps the best way to write is to do so as if one were already dead, afraid of no one's reactions, answerable to no one's views. ~ Nadine Gordimer
Type Writing quotes by Nadine Gordimer
Unfortunately, I predict we will see a lot more of this type of behavior (and worse) as our culture progresses beyond Anglo domination. Many white people are beginning to feel like their world is being taken from them, and it causes fear and outbursts of violence like this.

Except nothing is actually being taken away, it's just now being shared. It's what is referred to as privilege. Before, we (white people) could assume everything catered to us by default. Everything spoke our language. Everyone (that mattered) looked like us. Everything reflected our beliefs (well, the religious majority, anyways).

Now, that is not the case. We are actually having to share space with others. What we are seeing with acts of aggression at restaurants like this is a sort of only-child selfishness taken to the extreme. We've been privileged for a long time now, and we don't like to share.

There are many privilege axes beyond white. There is christian privilege, straight (heterosexual) privilege, and male privilege. If you are angered by the acceptance of things counter to how you live, but do no actual harm, then you are probably a victim of privilege.

[In response to women wearing hijabs being attacked at restaurants, November 2015] ~ Michael Brewer
Type Writing quotes by Michael Brewer
If you want help in starting to write memoirs, you don't want to fall into the clutches of a famous writer who has been hired to teach at a writing workshop solely because of his name's ability to attract students, rather than because of any teaching skill. You should not have to grapple with someone who secretly thinks you should be writing about his life rather than your own. ~ Judith Barrington
Type Writing quotes by Judith Barrington
Nature has decreed that for what men suffer by having to shave, be killed in battle, and eat the legs of chickens, women make amends by housekeeping, childbirth, and writing all the letters for both of them ... ~ Jan Struther
Type Writing quotes by Jan Struther
I had wanted to be a novelist for so long, but I didn't have a story. That story came from the death of my father, and wrestling with how to help my mother. Writing it allowed me to work through my fears, frustrations and desires. I wanted control over the situation. And I wasn't sure I would have any in real life. ~ Robert Crais
Type Writing quotes by Robert Crais
The age of technology has both revived the use of writing and provided ever more reasons for its spiritual solace. Emails are letters, after all, more lasting than phone calls, even if many of them r 2 cursory 4 u. ~ Anna Quindlen
Type Writing quotes by Anna Quindlen
A writer should not wait for inspiration; it won't come. Inspiration is fueled by the act of writing, by the sweat of the effort, by the work. ~ Mark Rubinstein
Type Writing quotes by Mark Rubinstein
It's an unmeetable level of writing. But even if it's something I feel like I can't ever attain, it doesn't crush my spirit. I figured out early on that you gotta find your own strengths and hone them rather than trying to emulate something that impresses you. ~ Paul Banks
Type Writing quotes by Paul Banks
Words should wander and meander. They should fly like owls and flicker like bats and slip like cats. They should murmur and scream and dance and sing. ~ David Almond
Type Writing quotes by David Almond
Only the poet truly understands what is written between the pregnant pauses they create. ~ Shannon Lynette
Type Writing quotes by Shannon Lynette
I knew I wanted to work with Brad [Falchuk] and Ian [Brennan] again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing SCREAM QUEENS. We hope to create a whole new genre - comedy-horror - and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. ~ Ryan Murphy
Type Writing quotes by Ryan Murphy
Words, living and ghostly, the quick and the dead, crowd and jostle the otherwise too empty corridors of my mind ... To move among this bright, strange, often fabulous herd of beings, to summon them at my will, to fasten them on to paper like flies, that they may decorate it, this is the pleasure of writing. ~ Rose Macaulay
Type Writing quotes by Rose Macaulay
Someone like John Prine can write a song that tears into your soul, turn it over, and write a song that makes you laugh and feel light as a feather. With someone like him, you're getting a real picture of a person, a real expression. ~ Scott Avett
Type Writing quotes by Scott Avett
Sometimes in fiction you had to mute reality in order to make it seem more believable. ~ Adam Langer
Type Writing quotes by Adam Langer
I don't think everyone wants to create the great American novel, but we all have a dream of telling our stories-of realizing what we think, feel, and see before we die. Writing is a path to meet ourselves and become intimate. ~ Natalie Goldberg
Type Writing quotes by Natalie Goldberg
Confidentially, the type of male I find most enjoyable for a friend is one who has enough fire and assurance to speak up for his convictions. ~ Marilyn Monroe
Type Writing quotes by Marilyn Monroe
If you are one of the hewers of wood and drawers of small weekly paychecks, your letters will have to contain some few items of news or they will be accounted dry stuff ... But if you happen to be of a literary turn of mind, or are, in any way, likely to become famous, you may settle down to an afternoon of letter-writing on nothing more sprightly in the way of news than the shifting of the wind from south to south-east. ~ Robert Benchley
Type Writing quotes by Robert Benchley
Writing about the indignities of old age: the daunting stairway to the restaurant restroom, the benefits of a wheelchair in airports and its disadvantages at cocktail parties, giving the user what he described as a child's-eye view of the party and a crotch-level view of the guests.
Dying is a matter of slapstick and pratfalls. The aging process is not gradual or gentle. It rushes up, pushes you over and runs off laughing. No one should grow old who isn't ready to appear ridiculous. ~ John Mortimer
Type Writing quotes by John Mortimer
Hallsy is only thirty-nine, and already her face is pulled tight as a pair of Lululemon yoga pants across a plus-size girl's rear. She's never been married, which she'll tell you she never wants to be even though she hangs all over every remotely fuckable guy after a single drink, while they gently untangle her Marshmallow Man arms from around their stiff necks. It's no wonder the only ring on her finger is the Cartier Trinity, what with the way she's ruined her face and the fact that she spends more time sunning on the beach than she should running on a treadmill. But it's not just her sunspot-speckled chest and stocky, lazy frame. Hallsy is the type of person others describe as "whacky" and "kooky," which is just the civilized way of saying she's a nasty cunt. Hallsy she loves me. ~ Jessica Knoll
Type Writing quotes by Jessica Knoll
Writings are thoughts in a defined moment. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Type Writing quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I read your diary. I KNOW. ~ Mary Papas
Type Writing quotes by Mary Papas
I could not find any evidence that her circumstances had harmed Jane Austen's work in the slightest. That, perhaps, was the chief miracle about it. Here was a woman about the year 1800 writing without hate, without bitterness, without fear, without protest, without preaching. Her mind consumed all impediments. ~ Harold Bloom
Type Writing quotes by Harold Bloom
But even writing the column for the 'Telegraph,' that idea of working to deadlines, which as an actor that's not something you have to do in the same way. It's excited me into wanting to do a bit more. ~ Dan Stevens
Type Writing quotes by Dan Stevens
You never can tell, though, with suicide notes, can you? In the planetary aggregate of all life, there are many more suicide notes than there are suicides. They're like poems in that respect, suicide notes: nearly everyone tries their hand at them some time, with or without the talent. We all write them in our heads. Usually the note is the thing. You complete it, and then resume your time travel. It is the note and not the life that is cancelled out. Or the other way round. Or death. You never can tell, though, can you, with suicide notes. ~ Martin Amis
Type Writing quotes by Martin Amis
I think every writer owes it to themselves to face some harsh truths: in order to make a good impression, you need a unique name. ~ Luke Edley
Type Writing quotes by Luke Edley
What I try to write about are the darkest things in the soul, the mortal dreads ... The closer I get to the burning core of my being, the things which are most painful to me, the better is my work. ~ Harlan Ellison
Type Writing quotes by Harlan Ellison
If you haven't heard a rumor by noon, make one up. If you're a writer, make sure it's a full page of the book you're currently working on. ~ Lamont Tanksley
Type Writing quotes by Lamont Tanksley
I do not see how a man can work on the frontiers of physics and write poetry at the same time. They are in opposition. ~ Paul Dirac
Type Writing quotes by Paul Dirac
(Slap) "Owhhh ... " Raymond yelled as the Old Man's cane hit his face. ~ Judy Byington
Type Writing quotes by Judy Byington
I directed one of my shorts that did festivals around the world, and that was great. I've got a bit of a bug for that now. I just hope I keep challenging myself and keep doing stuff that interests me with people who I respect and who teach me stuff. If I can keep doing that in anything - acting, writing, directing or whatever - I'll do it because life is short. ~ Josh Lawson
Type Writing quotes by Josh Lawson
There is only one page left to write on. I will fill it with words of only one syllable. I love. I have loved. I will love. ~ Audrey Niffenegger
Type Writing quotes by Audrey Niffenegger
Who knew paper and ink could be so vicious ~ Kathryn Stockett
Type Writing quotes by Kathryn Stockett
From when I was a kid I wanted to write. It was so important to me that I was writing my own material. ~ Emeli Sande
Type Writing quotes by Emeli Sande
Being a fiction writer is really like being an actor, because if you're going to write convincingly it has to sound right and play right. The only way that works is to emotionally and technically act out and see the scene you're in.
There's no better job in the world, because when I sit down at that computer I'm the world's best forensics expert, if that's what I'm writing about that day. Or I'm some crazed psycho running down a dark alley.
Or I'm a gorgeous woman looking to find a man that night. Whatever! But I'm all of those things, every day. How can you beat that? ~ Ridley Pearson
Type Writing quotes by Ridley Pearson
I made a startling discovery. Time spent writing = output of work. Amazing. ~ Ann Patchett
Type Writing quotes by Ann Patchett
I HAD known him as a bulldozer, as a samurai, as an android programmed to kill, as Plastic Man and Titanium Man and Matter-Eater Lad, as a Buick Electra, as a Peterbilt truck, and even, for a week, as the Mackinac Bridge, but it was as a werewolf that Timothy Stokes finally went too far. ~ Michael Chabon
Type Writing quotes by Michael Chabon
I remarked to Dennis that easily half the code I was writing in Multics was error recovery code. He said, "We left all that stuff out of Unix. If there's an error, we have this routine called panic, and when it is called, the machine crashes, and you holler down the hall, 'Hey, reboot it.'" ~ Tom Van Vleck
Type Writing quotes by Tom Van Vleck
The biblical stories are the greatest sacred-inspirations. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Type Writing quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I like hearing other writers just about the way they approach writing. It gives me energy for my own work. It's weird; I'm always taking notes about fiction when I'm listening to people talk about craft. ~ Antonya Nelson
Type Writing quotes by Antonya Nelson
I think there seems to be a need for escapism at the moment. maybe that's the type of world we're living in. it's a sanctuary, in a way, where you can immerse yourself in something that doesn't exist, whether that's tv shows or comic books or novels. it's not solely down to magic and vampires - that's in at the moment. but escapism, being a part of other worlds, is very good for you. ~ Colin Morgan
Type Writing quotes by Colin Morgan

Type Writing quotes by S.A. Tawks

I published only in academic journals in philosophy until I was in my 40s, but I had been writing fiction and poetry my whole adult life - without ever once trying to publish it, and rarely letting anyone read it. ~ Cheryl Mendelson
