Not only had fear been banished from the establishment, not even a remarkable event was able to upset the balance of our little world. That was the absolute proof of our invincibility.
We had become so used to living without the unexpected. The moment a dangerous breech opened up in the walls of our world, we turned in on ourselves without ever losing our sense of solidarity as a group, the better to rethink the 'incident'. Only by stripping it of its drama were we able to forget it in the short term, and restore a sense of continuity. Each of us returned to his own task, swathed in that very particular corporate radiation that immunised us against reality. For us teachers, it seemed that the only way of surviving was to rein in our own perspectives as far as possible, day after day, to live as close as we could to our centres. ~ Christophe Dufossé
Treasons Day quotes by Christophe Dufossé
Everything surrounding the ship is gray or dark blue and nothing is particularly hip, and once or maybe twice a day this thin strip of white appears at the horizon line but its so far in the distance you cant be sure whether its land or more sky. Its impossible to believe that any kind of life sustains itself beneath this flat, slate-gray sky or in an ocean so calm and vast, that anything breathing could exist in such limbo, and any movement that occurs below the surface is so faint its like some kind of small accident, a tiny indifferent moment, a minor incident that shouldnt have happened, and in the sky there's never any trace of sun - the air seems vaguely transparent and disposable, with the texture of Kleenex - yet its always bright in a dull way, the wind usually constant as we drift through it, weightless, and below us the trail the ship leaves behind is a Jacuzzi blue that fades within minutes into the same boring gray sheet that blankets everything else surrounding the ship. One day a normal looking rainbow appears and you vaguely notice it, thinking about the enormous sums of money the Kiss reunion tour made over the summer, or maybe a whale swims along the starboard side, waving its fin, showing off. It's easy to feel safe, for people to look at you and think someone's going somewhere. Surrounded by so much boring space, five days is a long time to stay unimpressed. ~ Bret Easton Ellis
Treasons Day quotes by Bret Easton Ellis
Denzel has been that leading man, but it took him a while to get to Training Day and Hurricane Carter. ~ Shemar Moore
Treasons Day quotes by Shemar Moore
As much as I loved my computer, I wondered if I would ever know the joy of getting a letter from someone I loved, being able to pour over its contents time and time again, to feel the paper that he touched, and to know he took the time to share his day. ~ Lynn Cahoon
Treasons Day quotes by Lynn Cahoon
Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died? ~ Don McLean
Treasons Day quotes by Don McLean
I stroke her hair, then the side of her face. I'm sorry it took me so long to get it. It's my faul you had doubts. I promise, there won't be a day that goes by from now on that I won't show you how
much you mean to me. ~ Colleen Hoover
Treasons Day quotes by Colleen Hoover
17 Let not your heart t envy sinners, but continue in u the fear of the LORD all the day. ~ Anonymous
Treasons Day quotes by Anonymous
I can still remember the day, as an assistant U.S. attorney, when I stood up in court for the first time and I proudly said, "My name is Samuel Alito and I represent the United States in this court." It was a great honor for me to have the United States as my client during all of those years. ~ Samuel Alito
Treasons Day quotes by Samuel Alito
I look at a stream and I see myself: a native South African, flowing irresistibly over hard obstacles until they become smooth and, one day, disappear - flowing from an origin that has been forgotten toward an end that will never be. ~ Miriam Makeba
Treasons Day quotes by Miriam Makeba
Full service brokers, in this day and age of low cost mutual funds and discount brokers, are really nothing more than machines for ripping off retail investors. ~ Joel Spolsky
Treasons Day quotes by Joel Spolsky
I took an acting class. After the first day, the teacher quit, so they said take another. When I saw 'How to be a Stand-up Comedian,' it resonated. I realized I'd rather make 200 people laugh than make one person cry. ~ Wendy Liebman
Treasons Day quotes by Wendy Liebman
My days were not days of the week, bearing the stamp of any heathen deity, nor were they minced into hours and fretted by the ticking of a clock; for I lived like the Puri Indians, of whom it is said that "for yesterday, today, and tomorrow they have only one word, and they express the variety of meaning by pointing backward for yesterday forward for tomorrow, and overhead for the passing day." This was sheer idleness to my fellow-townsmen, no doubt; but if the birds and flowers had tried me by their standard, I should not have been found wanting. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Treasons Day quotes by Henry David Thoreau
I train twice a day and I make sure I eat right. I'm an avid tea drinker and I enjoy the benefits of drinking MateFit. It gives me energy, speeds up my metabolism and helps me shed excess water weight. I also do everything from MMA sparring to strength and conditioning. I make sure to do a combination of different things with my training. ~ Miesha Tate
Treasons Day quotes by Miesha Tate
Remember you're not entitled to anything. You have to earn your success every day, and you will make mistakes like everyone else. ~ Harvey MacKay
Treasons Day quotes by Harvey MacKay
You know, the day we had dinner in the cafeteria, I almost bailed. Even now, I don't know how I ended up in the chemo room with you. Then we got to talking, and I realized that after all you've been through, you still smiled. Still hoped. Cancer didn't take that away from you. That moment I knew how much better you are than me." I feel the corners of my lips tug upward as the memory envelops me. "And how much I loved seeing you smile. ~ D. Nichole King
Treasons Day quotes by D. Nichole King
The day I start hanging out with that bunch of half-starved mix-n-match sluts will be the day I crawl up my own ass and die! ~ Stephen King
Treasons Day quotes by Stephen King
On a spring day in 1988…a Massachusetts man who collected books about local history was rummaging through a bin in a New Hampshire antiques barn when something caught his eye. Beneath texts on fertilizers and farm machines lay a slim, worn pamphlet with tea-colored paper covers, titled Tamerlane and Other Poems, by an unnamed author identified simply as "a Bostonian." He was fairly certain he had found something exceptional, paid the $15 price, and headed home, where Tamerlane would spend only one night. The next day, he contacted Sotheby's, and they confirmed his suspicion that he had just made one of the most exciting book discoveries in years. The pamphlet was a copy of Edgar Allan Poe's first text, written when he was only fourteen years old, a find that fortune-seeking collectors have imagined happening upon probably more than they'd like to admit. The humble-looking, forty-page pamphlet was published in 1827 by Calvin F.S. Thomas, a relatively unknown Boston printer who specialized in apothecary labels, and its original price was about twelve cents. But this copy, looking good for its 161 years, most of which were probably spent languishing in one dusty attic box after another, would soon be auctioned for a staggering $198,000. ~ Allison Hoover Bartlett
Treasons Day quotes by Allison Hoover Bartlett
Sitting around waiting for inspiration is for amateurs. If you're a professional, you show up every day at work. ~ Mara Altman
Treasons Day quotes by Mara Altman
Turning down this invitation comes in lots of flavors. It looks like numbing yourself or distracting yourself or seeing something really beautiful as just normal. It can also look like refusing to forgive or not being grateful or getting wrapped around the axle with fear or envy. I think every day God sends us an invitation to live and sometimes we forget to show up or get head-fakes into thinking we haven't really been invited. But you see, we have been invited - every day, all over again. ~ Bob Goff
Treasons Day quotes by Bob Goff
You can fool people. You can fool anybody anytime of the day, but you can't fool yourself. At night, when you go home, you've got to be straight up with you. ~ Whitney Houston
Treasons Day quotes by Whitney Houston
You have to work with the paint and work with whatever the day brings you. If it's a wee bit dreary out, you paint it. But paint it so it makes you glad to be inside near a cozy fire. ~ Kieran Kramer
Treasons Day quotes by Kieran Kramer
We should all aspire in life to do a multitude of things well - to be a great father, to be a good husband, to be a good lover, you know, to try to do things the best you can is very important to me. ~ Matthew Modine
Treasons Day quotes by Matthew Modine
I can't remember the words she spoke when they finally opened the garage door and yanked me inside, but I was petrified. It wasn't sound Mom's screams or the jolt of her grabbing me by the shoulders and shaking me like a rag doll that plagues my memory, but the look of her eyes- wide, wild, and unrecognizable. ~ Maggie Young
Treasons Day quotes by Maggie Young
simply such
a day like the others, it isn't
on a day like this
the gypsy women are looking at you
and are knowing - if they call you
you will stop
to hear your misfortune
spoken by a stranger
they have a degree
in street's psychology
for them you are transparent
even if you don't have a light for their cigarette
she knows
you aren't lucky in love
buy me a coffee
and I'll tell you more

still more than this what then ~ Galina Nikolowa
Treasons Day quotes by Galina Nikolowa
Bell, book, and candle, candle book and bell, forward and backward, to curse Faustus to hell.
Anon you shall hear a hog grunt,a calf bleat, and an ass bray,
Because it is Saint Peter's holy day ~ Christopher Marlowe
Treasons Day quotes by Christopher Marlowe
The country will some day pay for the stupidities of those who were in the majority on this commission. They know as much about the future of aviation as they do about the sign writing of the Aztecs. ~ Jimmy Doolittle
Treasons Day quotes by Jimmy Doolittle
Some say once a word is said it's dead. I say it just begins to live that day. ~ Emily Bronte
Treasons Day quotes by Emily Bronte
One mustn't justify day-to-day morality with extraordinary circumstances. Otherwise, we would all feel free to rape and murder at the drop of a cat. ~ Courtney Milan
Treasons Day quotes by Courtney Milan
What else do we all want, each one of us, except to love and be loved, in our families, in our work, in all our relationships? ~ Dorothy Day
Treasons Day quotes by Dorothy Day
Let's not give the electoral process so much importance. We have to be cynical about it. Let's give importance to the real democracy that's constructed on a day-to-day basis. That's my hopeful perspective on it. ~ Gael Garcia Bernal
Treasons Day quotes by Gael Garcia Bernal
It is the duty of every American citizen to take part in a vigorous debate on the issues of the day. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Treasons Day quotes by Thomas Jefferson
I often go on a liquid fast a couple of days a week. I never take just water. Instead, I'll have maybe six glasses of vegetable and fruit juices a day. ~ Paul Lynde
Treasons Day quotes by Paul Lynde
But the truth is, we are broken people living in a fallen world with other broken people. You and I, whether Christian or not, have never known a day in which suffering is altogether absent. Because of sin, every day you live, from the day you were born till the day you die, is not what it ought to be. ~ Tullian Tchividjian
Treasons Day quotes by Tullian Tchividjian
We live amid falling taboos. In our crowded little hour of history we have seen how the prejudice of religion no longer can bar the way to the White House. Some of you may live to see the day when the prejudice of sex no longer places the Presidency beyond the reach of a greatly gifted American lady. Long before them, I hope you will see a woman member of the Supreme Court of the United States. In Congress and in our State Legislatures we need more women to bring their sensitive experience to the shaping of our decisions. ~ Lyndon B. Johnson
Treasons Day quotes by Lyndon B. Johnson
Back in the day, in '91 or so, I tried to interview Fugazi for Rolling Stone, which the band felt stood for everything they detested about corporate infiltration of music. They said, 'We'll do the interview if you give us a million dollars of cash in a suitcase.' Which was their way of saying no. ~ Michael Azerrad
Treasons Day quotes by Michael Azerrad
(he'd never faniced himself a butt pilot), and he'd been making up for it ever since. As far as Nemo was concerned, a day without tang was like a day without sunshine. ~ Robert Gregory Browne
Treasons Day quotes by Robert Gregory Browne
Today you may not understand me and tomorrow you all think as you thought as yesterday; but i believe in my mind that one day you all will understand me; though there is no my presence. ~ Khem Veasna
Treasons Day quotes by Khem Veasna
Over a four-month period, I sat down and wrote every day. And then there was a novel, and all of a sudden, there were agents and offers. ~ Melissa Marr
Treasons Day quotes by Melissa Marr
His heart is a desert island ... The whole scope, the whole energy of his mind surround and protect him; his depths isolate him and guard him against the truth. He flatters himself that he is entirely alone there ... Patience, dear lady. Perhaps, one day, he will discover some footprint on the sand ... What holy and happy terror, what salutary fright, once he recognizes in that pure sign of grace that his island is mysteriously inhabited! ... ~ Paul Valery
Treasons Day quotes by Paul Valery
All right, silent dark bear with angry frown, tell me more about your land."

He settled back down, picturing it. "I would tend to our land from the moment the sun rose to when it set and then you ...she would tend to me."

He laughed at her expression again. The world of exile camps and the Valley felt very far away, and he wanted to lie there forever.

"Let me tell you about your bride," she said, propping herself up on her elbows.

"Both of you would cultivate the land. You would hold the plow, and she would walk alongside you with the ox, coaxing and singing it forward. A stick in her hand, of course, for she would need to keep both the ox and you in line."

"What would we...that is, my bride and I, grow?"

"Wheat and barley."
"And marigolds."
Her nose crinkled questioningly.

"I would pick them when they bloomed," he said. "And when she called me home for supper, I'd place them in her hair and the contrast would take my breath away."

"How would she call you? From your cottage? Would she bellow, 'Finnikin!'?"

"I'd teach her the whistle. One for day and one for night."

"Ah, the whistle, of course. I'd forgotten the whistle. ~ Melina Marchetta
Treasons Day quotes by Melina Marchetta
I hate to think of the day when nobody remembers me as an actor and I can't get good tables in restaurants. ~ Paul Henreid
