Each person leaves a legacy--a single, small piece of herself, which makes richer each individual life and the collective life of humanity as a whole. But do not despair, for despair is a despicable and bourgeois affectation; we must not allow it. As for what happens next, well, as the Cuban poet Regino Pedroso once said, "como forjamos el hierro, forjaremos días nuevos": as we hammer out iron, we shall hammer out new days. ~ John Nichols
Telal El quotes by John Nichols
If the young filmmakers ask themselves enough questions and come up with enough answers and get the scripts tight enough. ~ Jihan El-Tahri
Telal El quotes by Jihan El-Tahri
It became the country's official language in the 13th century under the reign of Alfonso X el Sabio (the wise one) as he tried to unify a country that was housing a number of languages, including arabic, hebrew and latin. ~ Pilar Orti
Telal El quotes by Pilar Orti
If we really believe that He who begun the work will be faithful to complete it, why do we put a time limit on Him? EL ~ Evinda Lepins
Telal El quotes by Evinda Lepins
There is a Quichua riddle: El que me nombra, me rompe. Whatever names me, breaks me. The solution, your course, is "silence." But the truth is, anyone who knows your name can break you in two. ~ Carmen Maria Machado
Telal El quotes by Carmen Maria Machado
We longed for this world. We coveted it, and we hoped. Even Lucifer, though he wouldn't say it, looked on with greed-softened eyes, infatuated. I deluded myself into thinking that yes, perhaps Elohim had taken him back. Perhaps Elohim had forgotten all, would set him up as a god over this rich and wild new world. The next blessings to come from El would be his, and ours." He shook his head with a brittle laugh, the sound slightly too high-pitched for such a big man.

We had skirted the MIT campus to arrive on Main, a block from my office building.

"And why weren't they? Why couldn't they be?"

He pulled over, put the car in park, and turned to look at me.

"Because then he created them."

"Them?"

"You. ~ Tosca Lee
Telal El quotes by Tosca Lee
I've never had a huge collection of records; I've never been a beat digga. ~ El-P
Telal El quotes by El-P
4Shbab has been dubbed Islamic MTV. Its creator, who is an Egyptian TV producer called Ahmed Abu Haiba, wants young people to be inspired by Islam to lead better lives. He reckons the best way to get that message across is to use the enormously popular medium of music videos. 4Shbab was set up as an alternative to existing Arab music channels. ~ Shereen El Feki
Telal El quotes by Shereen El Feki
I've written a book entitled Islam: the Challenges of Democracy, because it is a challenge. It requires careful interpretation of the Islamic tradition and Islamic theology, and there's a lot in there that would support democratic ideals. ~ Khaled Abou El Fadl
Telal El quotes by Khaled Abou El Fadl
There was the situation in Nicaragua where the Sandinistas had taken over a couple of years earlier. There was a civil war going on in El Salvador and there was a similar situation in Guatemala. So Honduras was in a rather precarious geographic position indeed. ~ John Negroponte
Telal El quotes by John Negroponte
If you throw stones on my way to stumble and I fall, you try to put extra care when passing my way, lest you stumble and fall. ~ Miguel El Portugues
Telal El quotes by Miguel El Portugues
Those who has troubles are feeding them and those who hasn't troubles are looking for them ~ Miguel El Portugues
Telal El quotes by Miguel El Portugues
Behind everyday reality, there is a deeper reality so cruel that it condemns to death those who crime is no greater than the pursuit of their own curiosity.
("Shem-El-Nessim: An Inspiration In Perfume") ~ Chris Bell
Telal El quotes by Chris Bell
The apostle Paul labored more abundantly than all the apostles; yet it was not he but the grace of God that was with him. By the grace of God he was what he was (1 Cor. 15:10). He fulfilled God's purpose in his ministry by enjoying the Lord's sufficient grace (2 Cor. 12:9). Paul surely was drinking of the divine udder to receive the sufficient supply of grace. He did not exercise his natural strength to produce Ishmaels but enjoyed the rich supply of the sufficient grace to bring forth many Isaacs. He lived and worked in the way of "no longer I who live, but Christ" (Gal. 2:20). The real changing of a name is the change from I to Christ - El-Shaddai, the all-sufficient grace Supplier. Only Christ, not I, can fulfill God's purpose. ~ Witness Lee
Telal El quotes by Witness Lee
Indeed, how small the world is can be really hopeful or very terrifying. ~ Noha Alaa El-Din
Telal El quotes by Noha Alaa El-Din
Kahlo is pink mountains of shrimp in the marketplace
And barrio fiestas
Where exotic Tehuana women with flowers in their hair
Dance with rhythm and dignity
While their long rabona skirts
Billow out around them.
Lo que el agua me ha dado.
Kahlo is the colour of wild people and free thinkers
Frida Kahlo is the colour of legends ~ Karl Wiggins
Telal El quotes by Karl Wiggins
Perhaps your notion of relationships is different than mine.
You want something that would be a long term safe bet. I don't believe in that. I don't believe in eternity or safe bets. I believe in the unavoidable now and that the unavoidable now in the condition that it is pure with the best intention is eternity in itself.
I want to love you and to feel your love as much as this is possible, as far as this takes us, and I hope it will take us far. ~ Malak El Halabi
Telal El quotes by Malak El Halabi
Upset The Established Order Of Your Life And Everything Becomes Chaos ... To A Degree That You Wont Be Able To Differentiate Between Mere Illusions And Solid Reality ~ Sherif A. El-Mawardy
Telal El quotes by Sherif A. El-Mawardy
Everyone just wants to feel good, and I don't think that all music is designed to make you feel good. ~ El-P
Telal El quotes by El-P
Well, I, you know, I think at PIMCO we always try and be open with the press and the public. I mean, isn't that what voters want from their politicians? Mohamed El-Erian, our CEO, writes several op-eds a week. ~ Bill Gross
Telal El quotes by Bill Gross
I've had some wonderful ideas for getting the dominating going. I've got some extremely subtle advertising slogans that should get the public behind us. Things like "Vote for EL Wisty and lovely nude ladies will come and dance with you." It's a complete lie, of course, but you can't afford to be too scrupulous if you're going to dominate the world. ~ Peter Cook
Telal El quotes by Peter Cook
Does it mean you don't believe in your powers either? This is the first step one takes, down there, to one's fatal defeat. ~ Noha Alaa El-Din
Telal El quotes by Noha Alaa El-Din
This is not even one of the weirder Atlantises. No crystals here, no flying cars, no perfect governments, no psychic powers. (Those last two things don't exist, anyway.) ~ Amal El-Mohtar
Telal El quotes by Amal El-Mohtar
Knowledge unlocks the door to the mysteries of our mistakes; wisdom guides us away from repeating them. HS/el ~ Evinda Lepins
Telal El quotes by Evinda Lepins
In history, the millions win; that is democracy. ~ Nawal El Saadawi
Telal El quotes by Nawal El Saadawi
Because in the New Normal you are more worried about the return of your capital, not return on your capital. ~ Mohamed El-Erian
Telal El quotes by Mohamed El-Erian
In a right-angled triangle, the hypotenuse is the side opposite the right angle". A sentence that later flabbergasted the inhabitants of el Idilio, who took it to be a wird tongue twister or a mysterious incantation". ~ Luis Sepulveda
Telal El quotes by Luis Sepulveda
Life Is an Ambiguous Stimulus

In a very real sense, life is an ambiguous stimulus. Does survival of a heart attack indicate that death is imminent or that one has been given a new lease on life? Is falling in love an assurance of a lifelong partnership or the first sign of an inevitable heartbreak? Many human situations are complex and their meanings subtle. Thus, to make sense of and gain agency over our experiences, we engage in the process of self-reflection.
Through self-reflection, people come to realize that their lives are filled with uncertainty about their own identities, their relationships with others, and their environmental circumstances. Because living involves adaptation to irregular changes and perturbations from the environment, the process of self-reflection reveals the indefinite nature of life. The uncertainty stemming from threatening stimuli whose nature is unknown or unpredictable evokes stress and a sense of loss of control. In response to uncertainty, we are driven to make meaning of our experiences and in so doing to reduce uncertainty. Indeed, a series of cunning experiments demonstrated that the sense of lacking control promotes illusory pattern perception in ambiguous situations. Hence, people consciously or unconsciously attempt to regain a sense of control by projecting patterns onto the chaos of their lives. This meaning-making process hinged on the appraisal of stressors and their meaningful integration into our autobiographica ~ Todd Kashdan
Telal El quotes by Todd Kashdan
I knew that successful politicians cannot bear to accept defeat within themselves. A human being cannot stand up to a double defeat. That is the secret of their continuous attempt to rise to power. They draw a feeling of supremacy from their power over others. It makes them feel victorious rather than defeated. It hides how essentially hollow they are inside, despite the impression of greatness they try to spread around them, which is all they really care for. ~ Nawal El Saadawi
Telal El quotes by Nawal El Saadawi
In our times, significantly, the three outstanding voices against violence have been silenced by murder - Mahatma Gandhi in India, Archbishop Romero in El Salvador, and Dr. Martin Luther King, here at home. ~ Millicent Fenwick
Telal El quotes by Millicent Fenwick
To stop a habit or a vice seeks freedom in yourself ~ Miguel El Portugues
Telal El quotes by Miguel El Portugues
Although I was raised in Canada and the U.K., my roots are in Egypt through my father, in a family line that stretches back generations and runs along the Nile, from the concrete of Cairo to the coast of Alexandria. ~ Shereen El Feki
Telal El quotes by Shereen El Feki
When I write songs, when I sing songs, I don't have anybody in mind. I'm just trying to express what I think people are feeling. ~ El DeBarge
Telal El quotes by El DeBarge
Because hurting someone is not teaching them a lesson, Davian. As you pointed out earlier-we can hate what they do, but we should never hate them." He shifted. " And I'm not 'better' than you. That's not how this works. Believing in El, trying to follow His rules, doesn't make you in some way superior. If anything, it makes you more aware that none of us can claim to be truly good. That's why forgiveness is so important." He saw Davian's dubious expression and shook his head. " I'm not suggesting that enemies should suddenly be friends, but I am choosing to forgive. Because if I don't, Im nothing more than empty words. ~ James Islington
Telal El quotes by James Islington
Emmanuel Twinning, on the other hand, was gentle and very old, and made his own suits out of hospital blankets, and lived nearby with a horse.
Emmanuel and the skewbald had much in common, including the use of the kitchen, and one saw their grey heads, almost any evening, poking together out of the window. The old man himself, when seen alone, seemed to inhabit unearthly regions, so blue and remote that the girls used to sing:
O come, O come, E-mah-ah-ah-new-el!
An' ransom captive Is-rah-ah-ah-el! ...
At this he would nod and smile gently upon us, moving his lips to the hymn. He
was so very old, so far and strange, I never doubted that the hymn was his. He wore sky-blue blankets, and his name was Emmanuel; it was easy to think he was God. ~ Laurie Lee
Telal El quotes by Laurie Lee
I wish that I spoke more languages because I think each language is a window completely. ~ El Anatsui
Telal El quotes by El Anatsui
There were some problems only coffee and ice cream could fix. ~ Amal El-Mohtar
Telal El quotes by Amal El-Mohtar
I am using the past tense because I have no idea about the present as I couldn't predict the future at that time in the past. ~ Noha Alaa El-Din
Telal El quotes by Noha Alaa El-Din
Only love will attract love."~ Amunhotep El Bey ~ Amunhotep El Bey
Telal El quotes by Amunhotep El Bey
Excuses are made by the power of weakness. Their purpose is merely a wish you have; you wish they would demolish your guilt and regret. ~ Noha Alaa El-Din
Telal El quotes by Noha Alaa El-Din
God has been God in my life ever since I can remember. ~ El DeBarge
Telal El quotes by El DeBarge
El Shaddai. My all-sufficient God who is able to handle all my needs. Everything I will ever need I can find in Him. Think about that for a moment. Do you sense the power He offers us in those words? There is nothing, absolutely nothing in your life that He cannot handle. ~ Diane Moody
Telal El quotes by Diane Moody
We've never crossed paths before. I've never seen you walking down the street. I don't know the first thing there is to know about you. And the lines of my palm do not reveal nor disclose any untold secrets.

Yet, here I am, holding the door as I whisper in your ear:

"I'll be right across the street when you're done, my child. ~ Malak El Halabi
Telal El quotes by Malak El Halabi
I've lived in Egypt among Christians and Muslims, and we never had a conflict. Now you have a conflict between Christians and Muslims and Baha'is and Sunni and Shia. ~ Nawal El Saadawi
Telal El quotes by Nawal El Saadawi
For the layman, as well as for the majority of the physicists in their less sober, or metaphysical, moments, 'space' is 'emotionally' newtonian and an 'absolute void', which, of course, being 'absolute nothingness', cannot have objective existence, by definition. For Einstein, 'space-time' is, semantically, 'fulness', not 'emptiness', and, in his language, he does not need any term like 'ether', as his 'plenum', structurally, covers the ground, without his committing himself to a definite two-valued mechanistic ether. The confusion of orders of abstractions, from which we all suffer, is semantic, and is due to disregard of the structure and role of language. If we accept a non-el language of space-time, structurally we deal with fulness, and we should not use the term 'space', as its old semantic implications are 'emptiness', and so are very confusing. The 'sensation' of Einstein's declaration amounts to the fact that the sub-microscopic fulness ('space') is more important than a few kinks or concentrations of that fulness ('matter'), - a fact which science has established, and which is quite obvious. ~ Alfred Korzybski
Telal El quotes by Alfred Korzybski
Women were everywhere in the revolution. Women participated in it, and many women were killed. Then we had the right to speak up and gain some more rights, but what happened was there was a backlash. Why? Because we have the Salafists, Muslim Brothers, religious groups. ~ Nawal El Saadawi
