I last visited White Hart Lane in early February 2016, and as I took my seat, after a few pints in the (TV-less) concourse, in the upper tier of the South-West corner I couldn't help but notice the tumbleweed rolling around the ground. The stony silence from areas of the ground where I would normally expect the home fans to be sitting was deafening, and the whole ground was reminiscent of a ghost town.

Let's imagine that many years ago, way way back in history, someone observed a particular characteristic or oddity – maybe soldiers who claimed that their whole life passed before their eyes in times of extreme danger, or perhaps people who simply walked out on work they hated, or those who when they loved someone it was with every ounce of their being, and who never apologised for who they were. And just imagine that the person observing these Scamps decided to do something about it, such as start a cult with a weird set of beliefs and practices that aimed at improving the genetic quality of the human race, breeding people with the desirable heritable characteristics in order to improve future generations.

Just suppose this eugenically based cult was based on those with a childlike curiosity, on those who loved to be around people who lit them up, and only those with the most powerful experiences were chosen. Over a number of generations this careful and choosy breeding may have created a community who were without question so free that their very survival on earth was an act of insurgency.

Think about it! What if you and I are simply a subdivision, if you like, of that groove of humanity?

Above all else, be true to yourself. Do what YOU want to do. Walk alone and be your own judge. It'll be a bumpy road sometimes, but you'll carry yourself a little taller at the end of each and every journey. The dish may then have migrated to the Punjab region of the Indian-Pakistan border - The Land of Five Waters - around 250 BC, and from here could have moved on to Western Asia or North Africa as soldiers and merchants moved west with their families into the Eastern parts of the Roman empire, where the cooks would have experimented with new combinations of food, adding fruits, shellfish or poultry to the exotic dish. The dish could then have travelled in any direction heading North through Germany or Sweden to Britain or maybe migrating through Persia or North Africa to Spain and Portugal, creating two very distinct and separate menus but meeting once again in France

In Delhi we drove past dozens of Jain Sādhu holy men in saffron-coloured clothing which symbolises their saṃnyāsa (the ashrama life stage of renunciation). The difference is that whatever mischief we got up to was just that …. mischief. We'd run away crying with laughter instead of swaggering away after feeding our hatred.

Both the Gypsies of the 19th century and the Bohemian scribblers and court jester types share similar personality traits. Both groups were known as drifters, dancers, minstrels and troubadours. And for their cheerful and pleasant approach to poverty. They were also known for stalking members of the opposite sex. Alcohol, words and the hue and glow of the artist's easel were what they lived for

Carefree Scamps, you see, know the inevitability of their fate. If they can't identify this, then they're off-track. Rag, Tag & Bobtail don't know their destiny, or perhaps they just accept it for what it is. But those who feel they may have been born on the Wrong Planet are masters of their own fate, even though they often come across their inevitable future on the very road they took to escape it. I've always loved wild people, and Sixteen-String Jack Rann reminds so much of my mate, Dave Brotherton, that it's uncanny. My son, Kai, always used to say that I have my own swag, meaning that my style of clothing is different from a lot of people. Not radically so, I'm not completely outrageous – although I've probably had my moments – but my clothes are often quite different from everybody else's, who for the most part socialise in the same kind of shirts they wear to work.
I was wearing shirts or jackets 20 years ago that are only just starting to come into fashion nowadays. I can't explain this, I'm hardly a trend-setter, just that I've always liked that style.

I worked in construction management and I don't think construction workers are always honoured in the way they deserve. Barring natural disasters, a house or a 50-storey building is going to remain standing until it's demolished, and that's irrespective of the quality of craftsmanship. But the aesthetic qualities of good bricks will never be appreciated unless the workmanship is of the highest standard. Whether it's writing, cooking or bricklaying, quality of workmanship will always be the determining factor as to whether or not the finished product turns out mediocre or really exceptional. The choice of brick - just like the choice of words or spices - may well have a large bearing on the aesthetics of a new build, be it a large housing estate or just an ordinary garden wall but put the trowel in the right hands and poor-quality bricks can be made to look much better than they really are.

There is nothing more annoying than somebody who is really thick but who believes with absolute conviction that he is more intelligent than you. In other words, they tend to be very self-contained, introspective and deep down they're probably striving for affection. Yet they have no way of going about attaining this, so they tend to rub people up the wrong way.

Go searching for your own tribe! And at no time conceal or camouflage your true self. You never know who may be out there watching and trying to spot exactly who you are

Interesting how some words that hold basically the same meaning can have different connotations. Take 'outlaw' and 'criminal' for instance.
'Outlaw' has an almost romantic, nostalgic meaning – you tend to think of Jesse James or Robin Hood when you think of outlaws. Billy the Kid has been described as both a 'notorious outlaw' and a 'beloved folk hero.'
'Criminal' however has a completely different connotation. We think of muggers, burglars, armed robbers etc.
Nobody really wants to have a 'criminal' in their family tree, but the idea of having 'outlaw blood' is exciting and glamorous

It's almost impossible to prevent Chavs from breeding, but when a Chav reproduces evolution is halted and devolution commences. Chavs truly are the missing link of society

The greatest injustice you can do yourself is 'shapeshifting' to please others. It's tiring and debilitating, even to be around someone as fake as this, but basically, it's ridiculous. Why would anyone, even a Rag Tag, try and pretend to be what they're not?
I'll tell you. Because they're trying to hide their darker side behind a veneer of respectability. And they hate you because you don't do the same. Their psyche leaves them feeling bare and barren inside. And they look at you and they have that hollow feeling of being lost and alone. They live in the gloom of other empty people.
They watch how you are, and they understand that the battle they're fighting isn't against you at all, it's against themselves. And for that they hate you.
But remember, it's their choice
