It never made sense to my young mind, how a hurt from so long ago could keep a man from walking right. Stay with him for the rest of his life. But now that I am older, now that I've fought my own wars and fired my own guns, I understand. ~ Ryan Graudin
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Ryan Graudin
There will come a time', I said, 'when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no one left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this.'
I gestured encompassingly
'will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was time before organis,s experienced consciousness, and there will be time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it. God knows that's what everyone else does.' -Hazel Grace Lancaster ~ John Green
Sun Dai Shing quotes by John Green
Wait a second," Andy said, snapping his fingers. "You're Vietnamese." "Don't say it," Sun warned. But Andy, a grin stretched across his face, couldn't resist. "You're a Vietnam vet." Sun's face became even harder, something Andy hadn't thought possible. "Never heard that one before. Open the pen there." Andy lifted the latch on the gate and Sun led the sheep out of the pen and over to the entrance door. "I've visited Viet Nam twice," Andy said. "Beautiful place. All of those war movies make it look like hell, but it's actually very tranquil, don't you think?" "I wouldn't know. I've never been there. I'm an American. ~ Lee Goldberg

Sun Dai Shing quotes by Cassandra Clare
Therefore a victorious army first wins and then seeks battle; a defeated army first battles and then seeks victory. ~ Sun Tzu
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Sun Tzu
The Ache That Would Not Leave

Behind the hum and routine of daily living, there lay a persistent and wild longing for something she could not easily put into words. It felt like impulsive adventures and watching the sun rise over unfamiliar mountains, or coffee in a street café, set to the background music of a foreign language. It was the smell of the ocean, with dizzying seagulls whirling in a cobalt sky; exotic foods and strange faces, in a city where no one knew her name. She wanted secrets whispered at midnight, and road trips without a map, but most of all, she ached for someone who desired to explore the mysteries that lay sleeping within her. The truly heartbreaking part was that she could feel the remaining days of her life falling away, like leaves from an autumn tree, but still this mysterious person who held the key to unlock her secrets did not arrive; they were missing, and she knew not where to find them. ~ John Mark Green
Sun Dai Shing quotes by John Mark Green
Parted lovers beguile absence by a thousand chimerical devices, which possess, however, a reality of their own. They are prevented from seeing each other, they cannot write to each other; they discover a multitude of mysterious means to correspond. They send each other the song of the birds, the perfume of the flowers, the smiles of children, the light of the sun, the sighings of the breeze, the rays of stars, all creation. And why not? All the works of God are made to serve love. Love is sufficiently potent to charge all nature with its messages.
Oh Spring! Thou art a letter that I write to her. ~ Victor Hugo
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Victor Hugo
Waking in the morning, I had to remember grief all over again. It was sunny, a white winter sun, and that made me sad. ~ Olivia Sudjic
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Olivia Sudjic
The boy was twelve, reveling in the strange dust-smelling murk of a New Orleans library, watching motes flash gold in a beam of sun. He loved the ceiling lights on chains and the table lamps with their green glass shades. The room was as beautiful as another world. ~ Marly Youmans
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Marly Youmans
Space is not only high, it's low. It's a bottomless pit. ~ Sun Ra
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Sun Ra
A society must create lots of sunshine for its miners as they need the sun most! And 'to be remembered, to be respected' is a good sunshine; 'safety in the mine' is a good sunshine! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
Wait!" Alex yells up to the driver. "Stop! Stop the car!"

Up close, it's beautiful. Two stories tall. He can't imagine how somebody was able to put together something like this so fast.

It's a mural of himself and Henry, facing each other, haloed by a bright yellow sun, depicted as Han and Leia. Henry in all white, starlight in his hair. Alex dressed as a scruffy smuggler, a blaster at his hip. A royal and a rebel, arms around each other.

He snaps a photo on his phone, and fingers shaking, types out a tweet: Never tell me the odds. ~ Casey McQuiston
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Casey McQuiston
The Words, Kaladin. That was Syl's voice. You have to speak the Words!

I FORBID THIS.

YOUR WILL MATTERS NOT! Syl shouted. YOU CANNOT HOLD ME BACK IF HE SPEAKS THE WORDS! THE WORDS, KALADIN! SAY THEM!

"I will protect even those I hate," Kaladin whispered through bloody lips. "So long as it is right."

A Shardblade appeared in Moash's hands.

A distant rumbling. Thunder.

THE WORDS ARE ACCEPTED, the Stormfather said reluctantly.

"Kaladin!" Syl's voice. "Stretch forth thy hand!" She zipped around him, suddenly visible as a ribbon of light.

"I can't…" Kaladin said, drained.

"Stretch forth thy hand!"

He reached out a trembling hand. Moash hesitated.

Wind blew in the opening in the wall, and Syl's ribbon of light became mist, a form she often took. Silver mist, which grew larger, coalesced before Kaladin, extending into his hand.

Glowing, brilliant, a Shardblade emerged from the mist, vivid blue light shining from swirling patterns along its length.

Kaladin gasped a deep breath as if coming fully awake for the first time. The entire hallway went black as the Stormlight in every lamp down the length of the hall winked out.

For a moment, they stood in darkness.

Then Kaladin exploded with Light.

It erupted from his body, making him shine like a blazing white sun in the darkness. Moash backed away, face pale in the ~ Brandon Sanderson
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Brandon Sanderson
Since some people had told me that I was ugly, I always preferred shade to the sun, darkness to light ~ Charles Bukowski
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Charles Bukowski
Time changes its nature in prisons and hospitals. In this cosmogony it both races and drags itself. For anyone who hasn't been a long-term patient or prisoner - or both, like Sharmila - there is no way to imagine what evenings are like when you are locked in - the indeterminate hour when the sun has gone down but night hasn't fully set in. It haunts you. In a hospital, especially one where air-conditioning and double-glass windows don't shield you from the real world, there are mixed sounds that rise up from every floor; murmurs, shallow breaths, the sounds of pain and healing. Once the final inspections are done and the trays and bowls carried away, a shroud of silence falls over everything. It can be strangely tranquil, or eerily desolate. ~ Anubha Bhonsle
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Anubha Bhonsle
Why should I have to hide the fact that I don't believe there's a supreme being? There's no proof of it. There's no harm in saying you're an atheist. It doesn't mean you treat people any differently. I live by the Golden Rule to do unto others, as you'd want to be treated.
I just simply don't believe in religion, and I don't believe necessarily that there's a supreme being that watches over all of us. I follow the teachings of George Carlin. George said he worshipped the sun. He was a fellow atheist. I'm in good company ... Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, Charles Darwin. It's not like I'm not with good company and intelligent people. There have been some good, intelligent atheists who have lived in the world. ~ Jesse Ventura
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Jesse Ventura
With every fall of the sun and rise of the moon, I can hear it. The Prophecy. It echoes through the halls of time. It is written on the surface of every star. Even the sun and moon cannot withhold the news of the second coming. I hear it. And I fear it. ~ Brian A. McBride
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Brian A. McBride
Be angry, Katie Greene. Don't forget how it was. Because there'll always be a hole in your heart. You don't have to fill it. ~ Amanda Sun
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Amanda Sun
Inwardly the sun also has an energy field, it has an aura, so does the earth, so does the moon, and so do all the planets. We're affected by those auras. It's not something that you really want to reason out. ~ Frederick Lenz
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Frederick Lenz
Whoever has been poor and lonely himself understands other poor and lonely people all the better. At least we should learn to understand our fellow beings, for we are powerless to stop their misery, their ignominy, their suffering, their weakness, and their death.
One day Frau Wilke whispered, as she stretched out her hand and arm to me: "Hold my hand. It's like ice."
I took her poor, old, thin hand in mine. It was cold as ice.
Frau Wilke crept about her home now like a ghost. Nobody visited her. For days she sat alone in her unheated room.
To be alone: icy, iron terror, foretaste of the grave, forerunner of unpitying death. Oh, whoever has been himself alone can never find another's loneliness strange.
I began to realize that Frau Wilke had nothing to eat. The lady who owned the house, and later took Frau Wilke's rooms, allowing me to stay in mine, brought, of course in pity for her forsaken state, every midday and evening a cup of broth, but not for long, and so Frau Wilke faded away. She lay there, no longer moving: and soon she was taken to the city hospital, where, after three days, she died.
One afternoon soon after her death, I entered her empty room, into which the good evening sun was shining, gladdening it with rose-bright, gay and soft colors. There I saw on the bed the things which the poor lady had till recently worn.... The strange sight of them made me unspeakably sad, and my peculiar state of mind made it seem to me almost t ~ Robert Walser
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Robert Walser
We live in an old chaos of the sun. ~ Wallace Stevens
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Wallace Stevens
Only in America do these peasants, our mothers, get their hair dyed platinum at the age of sixty, and walk up and down Collins Avenue in Florida in pedal pushers and mink stoles - and with opinions on every subject under the sun. It isn't their fault they were given a gift like speech - look, if cows could talk, they would say things just as idiotic. ~ Philip Roth
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Philip Roth
We stop being the moonlight and become, instead, the pool of water reflecting it. Tomorrow, the water will evaporate in the sun. And all because, one day, someone said: 'You are ugly. Or: 'She is pretty.' With those three simple words, they stole away all our self-confidence. And we become ugly and embittered. ~ Paulo Coelho
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Paulo Coelho
For this ought, above all things, to be received, and most firmly settled among Christians: - that the Holy Scriptures are a spiritual light by far more clear than the sun itself, especially in those things which pertain unto salvation or necessity. ~ Martin Luther
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Martin Luther

Sun Dai Shing quotes by Melissa Ferguson
So now you know that, as dark as the depths of the sea may be, as dark as the night gets without a moon, it is not really true darkness. It's just waiting for light to return. There are places that are truly dark in this world, Ven, but this place here, this open stretch of sea where you are floating, is not one of them. It's not really dark here - it's just night. If you hang on and stay awake, in a short while the edges of the sky will start to turn gray, then pink, and the sun will rise, and there will be blue above and all around you again. ~ Elizabeth Haydon
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Elizabeth Haydon
Two thousand years ago Archimedes famously said, "Give me a large enough lever and a place to stand and I will move the world!" Well, nobody ever gave him that lever, and that's why the world is still in pretty much the same place now as it was then: between Venus and Mars, orbiting the sun, and crawling with idiots. ~ BikeSnobNYC
Sun Dai Shing quotes by BikeSnobNYC
The beautiful affair of sun, sky and the sea brings a perfect moment of love, peace and joy ~ Umair Siddiqui
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Umair Siddiqui
The sea drinks the air and the sun the sea. ~ Anacreon
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Anacreon
You are as the sun; born to rise, even if the world resents you for towering above it. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
Just as in the microcosm there are seven 'windows' in the head (two nostrils, two eyes, two ears, and a mouth), so in the macrocosm God has placed two beneficent stars (Jupiter, Venus), two maleficent stars (Mars, Saturn), two luminaries (sun and moon), and one indifferent star (Mercury). The seven days of the week follow from these. Finally, since ancient times the alchemists had made each of the seven metals correspond to one of the planets; gold to the sun, silver to the moon, copper to Venus, quicksilver to Mercury, iron to Mars, tin to Jupiter, lead to Saturn.

From these and many other similar phenomena of nature such as the seven metals, etc., which it were tedious to enumerate, we gather that the number of planets is necessarily seven... Besides, the Jews and other ancient nations as well as modern Europeans, have adopted the division of the week into seven days, and have named them from the seven planets; now if we increase the number of planets, this whole system falls to the ground... Moreover, the satellites [of Jupiter] are invisible to the naked eye and therefore can have no influence on the earth, and therefore would be useless, and therefore do not exist. ~ Francesco Sizzi
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Francesco Sizzi
Troubles always seemed more severe after the sun went down. Even irrational worries and fears could seem perfectly logical at midnight. ~ Jeanne Stephens
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Jeanne Stephens
Mentally, perhaps she was already three parts glass. So intense was her desire to set up a commemorative window to herself that, when it was erected, she believed she must leave behind in it, for ever, a little ghost. And should this be so, then what joy to be pierced each morning with light; her body flooded through and through by the sun, or in the evening to glow with a harvest of dark colours, deepening into untold sadness with the night....
What ecstasy! It was the Egyptian sighing for his pyramid, of course. ~ Ronald Firbank
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Ronald Firbank
Helen, beloved of the goddess of love, went downstairs to crawl into her empty bed as Lucas, the son of the sun, leaned back on his elbows and watched his father-god brighten the bare wooden planks of her widow's walk. ~ Josephine Angelini
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Josephine Angelini
What we call life is only talk of nature. ~ Dejan Stojanovic
Sun Dai Shing quotes by Dejan Stojanovic
As the sun sets, we've all had those nights where you question your choices and where your life is going. ~ Tori Amos
