I grew up in a home where animals were ever-present and often dominated our lives. There were always horses, dogs, and cats, as well as a revolving infirmary of injured wildlife being nursed by my sister the aspiring vet. ~ Julia Glass
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Julia Glass
A male frigate bird blows up a wild red pouch on his neck. He can keep it puffed up for hours. It is his way of impressing the girls. ~ Julie Murphy
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Julie Murphy
...no other life form needed man, man needed all the others in which to survive. ~ Barry Babcock
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Barry Babcock
Without knowing it, we utilize hundreds of products each day that owe their origin to wild animals and plants. Indeed our welfare is intimately tied up with the welfare of wildlife. Well may conservationists proclaim that by saving the lives of wild species, we may be saving our own. ~ Norman Myers
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Norman Myers
I realized a long time ago that in order to create real change for animals–from domestic pets to wildlife to farm animals–you need to have a lot of money, or a lot of power. Laws that could–and should–protect animals more aren't being championed the way they should be. All it takes is one person, determined to rise, to get enough power to give a voice to the voiceless. ~ Tess Sharpe
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Tess Sharpe
Fred just shrugged enigmatically. 'What? Just a load of girls going to the toilet? Personally I prefer wildlife videos. ~ Sue Limb
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Sue Limb
Those who have never seen a leopard under favourable conditions in his natural surroundings can have no conception of the grace of movement, and beauty of colouring, of this the most gracefuL and the most beautiful of all animales in our Indian jungles. ~ Jim Corbett
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Jim Corbett
On a motorcycle, I learned to let go of the vast uncertainty and focus instead on what is in front of me: the surface of the road and the curve of it, the vehicles in front and behind, the wind and the rain and the wildlife peeking out of the grass. There are times when I struggle to manage every last detail as it whips pat me, to hold on to past and present and future simultaneously, but they're not mine to understand, or control. I have to remind myself, again and again, that only this is mine: this moment, this heartbeat, this decision. ~ Lily Brooks-Dalton
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Lily Brooks-Dalton
Jack...why is there a dragon in our backyard? ~ Kyoko M.
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Kyoko M.
Extending the Airport Runway
The good citizens of the commission
cast their votes
for more of everything.
Very early in the morning

I go out
to the pale dunes, to look over
the empty spaces
of the wilderness.

For something is there,
something is there when nothing is there but itself,
that is not there when anything else is.

Alas,
the good citizens of the commission
have never seen it,

whatever it is,
formless, yet palpable.
Very shining, very delicate.

Very rare. ~ Mary Oliver
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Mary Oliver
Some Iranian doctors from Europe and America go to Iran and operate for free or teach medical students there. The other day, I met a gentlemen who is helping to protect wildlife in Iran. It's good that many of them don't forget about their country. It's important. ~ Farah Diba
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Farah Diba
Eighty-two percent of Australia's bird species and two thirds of Australia's mammal species can be found on our (Australian Wildlife Conservancy) reserves. We put teams of people on the frontline in the battle against feral animals, wildfires and noxious weeds. Science underpins everything we do. ~ Kristy Hinze
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Kristy Hinze
Congressman Upton insisted that he hadn't changed his position on environmental issues. But Jeremy Symons, then a senior vice president of the nonpartisan National Wildlife Federation, said that the transformation was "like night and day." He continued, "In the past the committee majority viewed the Clean Air Act as an effective way to protect the public. Now the committee treats the Clean Air Act and the EPA as if they are the enemy. Voters didn't ask for this pro-polluter agenda, but the Koch brothers spent their money well and their presence can be felt." At ~ Jane Mayer
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Jane Mayer
Nature, with its paradoxical twin firmaments of breathtaking beauty and extreme cruelty, never explains itself and cares even less for our admiration and acceptance. ~ Stewart Stafford
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Stewart Stafford
When pressed, hunters who claim that they just want "to be out in the wilderness," will admit that the kill is essential - or at least the hope of a kill. As it turns out, there is no correlation between hunting and hiking, climbing, backpacking, kayaking, or any other outdoor activity. Hunters do not purposefully linger in the woods after a kill, but quickly begin the process of preparing to head home with the corpse. For hunters, the kill is the climax - the most important moment. They are not driving into the woods (or sometimes actually walking) for the sake of beauty, but in the hope of a kill. ~ Lisa Kemmerer
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Lisa Kemmerer
A lot of African wildlife is very big. If you're protecting the big stuff, you're usually protecting the small stuff, too. ~ Patrick Bergin
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Patrick Bergin
The wild things and places belong to all of us. So while I can't fix the bigger problems of race in the United States - can't suggest a means by which I, and others like me, will always feel safe - I can prescribe a solution in my own small corner. Get more people of color "out there." Turn oddities into commonplace. The presence of more black birders, wildlife biologists, hunters, hikers, and fisher-folk will say to others that we, too, appreciate the warble of a summer tanager, the incredible instincts of a whitetail buck, and the sound of wind in the tall pines. Our responsibility is to pass something on to those coming after. As young people of color reconnect with what so many of their ancestors knew - that our connections to the land run deep, like the taproots of mighty oaks; that the land renews and sustains us - maybe things will begin to change. ~ J. Drew Lanham
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by J. Drew Lanham
A couple of years later, I found out an angry hog is even worse than an angry beaver. My buddy Mike Williams invited me to go hog-hunting with him on a cantaloupe farm. Wild boars were destroying the cantaloupe crop, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries gave the landowner permission to have hunters kill the hogs. They even let us chase the boars and shoot them from the back of a truck while the game wardens watched the proceedings from a distance! Now, I'd never hunted hogs, but a few of the guys I was hunting with claimed they were experts. We shot one or two hogs apiece and then chased a 360-pound boar into an adjoining cotton field.
My buddies convinced me to go into the overgrown cotton field and attempt to flush the hog out into the open. About a hundred yards into the thick brush, I heard the hog grunt. The hog was so close to me that when I put my scope on it to shoot, I couldn't tell if it was its front end or rear end! I fired my gun. Unfortunately, I shot the hog in the rear, which only made it madder! The hog turned around and charged toward me. I turned and ran out of the cotton field. I felt its tusks clipping at my ankles as I ran. Fortunately, I stayed ahead of the hog until we reached the cantaloupe field, and then to my surprise the hog fell into a heap. It was dead. I looked at my buddies and they were laughing and rolling on the ground. I thought it was a very strange response to my almost getting devoured by a vicious wild hog. I did ~ Jase Robertson
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Jase Robertson
The spruce and cedar on its shores, hung with gray lichens, looked at a distance like the ghosts of trees. Ducks were sailing here and there on its surface, and a solitary loon, like a more living wave, - a vital spot on the lake's surface, - laughed and frolicked, and showed its straight leg, for our amusement. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Henry David Thoreau
I believe that Human Kindness, Compassion and Caring towards all life, will always prevail.
No matter how cruel the night, the dawn will break and Africa will still be here along with all its wild beauty. ~ Paul Oxton
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Paul Oxton
Between the inner and outer beaches, a strand of woods thrived: palms, palmettos, mahogany, figs, and calabash. Coconut palms and fig trees dropped enough fruit to feed the wildlife that swooped by in droves. It was so easy to catch a fish with your bare hands, Tristan and I had made a game of it during our weeks of lovemaking on the warm, supple sand. It truly was paradise. ~ A. Violet End
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by A. Violet End
When I went to Australia, I went shark diving. It was crazy. It was called 'extreme' shark diving because even though we were in cages, we literally could touch the sharks swimming by. They were huge and I'm terrified of sharks. Then I went to a wildlife park and held kangaroos. That was nice. ~ Taylor Lautner
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Taylor Lautner
I know that Daddy had an important job. He was working to change the world so everyone would love wildlife like he did. He built a hospital to help animals, and he bought lots of land to give animals a safe place to live. ~ Bindi Irwin
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Bindi Irwin

Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by William D. Lutz
Humanity can no longer stand by in silence while our wildlife are being used, abused and exploited.
It is time we all stand together, to be the voice of the voiceless before it's too late. Extinction means forever. ~ Paul Oxton
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Paul Oxton
Wildlife of the world is disappearing ... simply because of a general and widespread ignorance and neglect ~ Prince Philip
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Prince Philip
All my Best Friends have 4 Legs. ~ Tim Poirier
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Tim Poirier
I think of everything and I'm pretty sure if I could use my organizational skills for something else, like wildlife survival kits or preparing people for nuclear warfare, I'd be a millionaire. Or at the very least actually a useful human being. ~ Corey Ann Haydu
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Corey Ann Haydu
Fish and Wildlife wants to fine us for killing a giant mutant Tennessee River catfish because it was endangered. Sure it had just crawled up on land and eaten some teenagers, but it was still an endangered species. ~ Larry Correia
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Larry Correia
Look,' said Cobb, 'I live in the city. The only wildlife I ever get to see is rats. If I want to catch a rabbit I go to the butchers! ~ Tony Rattigan
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Tony Rattigan
In this image-driven age, wildlife filmmakers carry a heavy responsibility. They can influence how we think and behave when we're in nature. They can even influence how we raise our kids, how we vote and volunteer in our communities, as well as the future of our wildlands and wildlife. If the stories they create are misleading or false in some way, viewers will misunderstand the issues and react in inappropriate ways. People who consume a heavy diet of wildlife films filled with staged violence and aggression, for example, are likely to think about nature as a circus or a freak show. They certainly won't form the same positive connections to the natural world as people who watch more thoughtful, authentic, and conservation-oriented films. ~ Chris Palmer
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Chris Palmer
Wildlife needs wilderness-not just to survive, but also to live freely. Sadly, many species struggle to survive due to increased human activity and expansion into habitats they call home. ~ Zoe Helene
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Zoe Helene
He drew in a breath and all the seasons were in it; spring greenness in the grass, and somewhere a dog-rose blooming; the secretive scent of fungus clinging to the oak, and underneath it all something sharper waiting in a promise of winter. ~ Sarah Perry
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Sarah Perry
I don't want to see crocs end up as boots, bags and belts. We're killing and consuming our wildlife icons. ~ Bindi Irwin
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Bindi Irwin
The whole concept of 'wild' was decidedly European, one not shared by the original inhabitants of this continent. What we called 'wilderness' was to the Indian a homeland, 'abiding loveliness' in Salish or Piegan. The land was not something to be feared or conquered, and 'wildlife' were neither wild nor alien; they were relatives. ~ Doug Peacock
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Doug Peacock
I've already made a substantial commitment to wildlife by putting my land in the easement. It won't be developed. It will remain there in perpetuity - will be there for the wildlife. ~ Andie MacDowell
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Andie MacDowell
My job, my mission, the reason I've been put onto this planet, is to save wildlife. And I thank you for comin' with me. Yeah, let's get 'em! ~ Steve Irwin
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Steve Irwin
I guess I was seeking some balance in the wildlife of the city as Rachel Carson sought it in nature. In unbalanced times, balance is as difficult to come by as Parsifal's Grail. ~ Studs Terkel
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Studs Terkel
My compulsion to always be working has become less strong and my current business is purely down to this enormous alimony. If I wasn't doing this I'd be making documentaries about wildlife and other subjects that interest me. ~ John Cleese
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by John Cleese
If you are lucky you will have the opportunity in your life to be owned by a good piece of land. ~ Daniel J. Rice
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Daniel J. Rice
A righteous politician will make all his citizens leaders. He will know all the lives of his countrymen. He will know each family by name, when they were born, their problems and anxieties and he will wipe away all pain. He will know what his citizens have eaten, where they have slept and he will know all grazing and hunting animals. He will not have privileges and he will govern alongside his cittizens. He will not govern on the basis of death because he is a leader of life. He will not allow death to occur or appear in his country. He will not lead his country to battle and no sickness will prevail under his rule. In his country there will be neither poor nor rich. He will know the fish in the sea, the birds of the air in number and will know all wildlife. He will know all particles of dust in formation. He will know all seasons and foretell a million years to come. He will have no blood on his hands and will not suffer from guilt. His citizens will suffer from no want. ~ David Ssembajjo
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by David Ssembajjo
One night, as I cooked dinner in our home on the zoo grounds, I brooded over my troubles. I didn't want to spend the evening feeling sorry for myself, so I thought about Steve out in the back, fire-gazing. He was a very lucky man, because for Steve, fire-gazing literally meant getting to build a roaring fire and sitting beside it, to contemplate life.
Suddenly I heard him come thundering up the front stairs. He burst wild-eyed into the kitchen. He's been nailed by a snake, I thought immediately. I didn't know what was going on.
"I know what we have to do!" he said, extremely excited.
He pulled me into the living room, sat me down, and took my hands in his. Looking intensely into my eyes, he said, "Babe, we've got to have children."
Wow, I thought, that must have been some fire.
"Ok-aaay," I said.
"You don't understand, you don't understand!" he said, trying to catch me up to his thoughts. "Everything we've been working for, the zoo that we've been building up, all of our efforts to protect wildlife, it will all stop with us!"
As with every good idea that came into his head, Steve wanted to act on it immediately. Just take it in stride, I said to myself. But he was so sincere. We'd talked about having children before, but for some reason it hit him that the time was now.
"We have got to have children," he said. "I know that if we have kids, they will carry on when we're gone."
"Great," I said. "Let's get right on that."
Steve k ~ Terri Irwin
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Terri Irwin
I spent my summers at my grandparents' cabin in Estes Park, literally next door to Rocky Mountain National Park. We had a view of Longs Peak across the valley and the giant rock beaver who, my granddad told me, was forever climbing toward the summit of the mountain. We awoke to mule deer peering in the windows and hummingbirds buzzing around the red-trimmed feeders; spent the days chasing chipmunks across the boulders of Deer Mountain and the nights listening to coyotes howling in the dark. ~ Mary Taylor Young
Steigerwald Wildlife quotes by Mary Taylor Young
I'm not against extracting a modest amount of wildlife out of the ocean for human consumption, but I am really concerned about the large-scale industrial fishing that engages in destructive practices like trawling and longlining. ~ Sylvia Earle
