Sid Vicious began the age of participation in which everyone could be the artist. Sid proved that you don't have to play well to be the star. You can play badly, or not even at all. I endorsed that attitude. If you can't write songs, no problem - simply steal one and change it to your taste. ~ Malcolm McLaren
Problem Play quotes by Malcolm McLaren
The problem play is a melodrama cleansed of invention. ~ David Mamet
Problem Play quotes by David Mamet
Only in the problem play is there any real drama, because drama is no mere setting up of the camera to nature: it is the presentation in parable of the conflict between Man's will and his environment: in a word, of problem. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Problem Play quotes by George Bernard Shaw
Tis one thing to be tempted, Escalus,
Another thing to fall."
- Angelo, Act 2 Scene 1 ~ William Shakespeare
Problem Play quotes by William Shakespeare
I'll tell you something else too; by the time we're through we shall have had all we can stand of this North woman. I wouldn't mind betting she thinks we have nothing better to do than run around in circles while she gets on with this three-act problem play of hers. ~ Georgette Heyer
Problem Play quotes by Georgette Heyer
If the problem of the twentieth century was, in W. E. B. Du Bois's famous words, "the problem of the color line," then the problem of the twenty-first century is the problem of colorblindness, the refusal to acknowledge the causes and consequences of enduring racial stratification. ~ Naomi Murakawa
Problem Play quotes by Naomi Murakawa
As for the danger of alienating people with good intentions - well, one of the things that I learned from RaceFail (and also from general experience) was that people with good intentions are the ones to fear most. The overt racists are easy to deal with. You can spot them coming a mile away. But the well-intentioned people are scarier. They might not intend harm, but in most cases they haven't thought about all the racist (and other "-ist") messages they've absorbed from society. They haven't done the basic groundwork necessary to purge themselves of that passively-absorbed "-ism". So they say the most incredibly hurtful, self-absorbed, and utterly useless things, then compound the problem by getting upset when they're called on it. I liken these people to sleeper agents - they seem OK at first, but then they suddenly "activate" and stab you in the back, and then they come out of their fugue and freak because there's blood on their hands and they don't know how it got there and they refuse to accept that they're the ones who put it there, OMG, OMG. Meanwhile, you're on the floor bleeding out, unnoticed because of their histrionics.

The rage of RaceFail made many of these well-intentioned sleeper agents wake up. So while yes, I think the anger risked alienating some of them, I'm fine with that. They were always dangerous; I haven't lost anything by their alienation. The ones who wake up are a gain (or they will be, once they shift from "not causing harm" anymore ~ N.K. Jemisin
Problem Play quotes by N.K. Jemisin
This political disorder found expression in Machiavelli Prince. In the absence of any guiding principle, politics becomes a naked struggle for power; The Prince gives shrewd advice as to how to play this game successfully. What had happened in the great age of Greece happened again in Renaissance Italy: traditional moral restraints disappeared, because they were seen to be associated with superstition; the liberation from fetters made individuals energetic and creative, producing a rare florescence of genius; but the anarchy and treachery which inevitably resulted from the decay of morals made Italians collectively impotent, and they fell, like the Greeks, under the domination of nations less civilized than themselves but not so destitute of social cohesion. ~ Bertrand Russell
Problem Play quotes by Bertrand Russell
Buffoons, buffoons! One can play any tune on them! ~ Luigi Pirandello
Problem Play quotes by Luigi Pirandello
In thousands of little ways, we pull and push our children to grow up, hurrying them along instead of inviting them to rest. We could never court each other as adults by resisting dependance...Perhaps we feel free to invite the dependance of adults becuase we are not responsible for their growth and maturity. We don't bear the burden of getting them to be independant. Here is the core of the problem: we are assuming too much responsiblity for the maturation of our children. We have forgotten that we are not alone - we have nature as our ally. Independance is the fruit of maturation; our job in raising children is to look after their dependance needs. When we do our job of meeting genuine dependance needs, nature is free to do its job of promoting maturity. In the same way, we don't have to make our children grow taller; we just need to give them food. By forgetting that growth, development and maturation are natural processes, we lose perspective. We become afraid our children will get stuck and never grow up. Perhaps we think that if we don't push a little, they will never leave the nest. Human beings are not like birds in this respect. The more children are pushed, the tighter they cling - or, failing that, they nest with someone else. ~ Gordon Neufeld
Problem Play quotes by Gordon Neufeld
No, I don't have a problem with my temper. ~ Tommy Lee
Problem Play quotes by Tommy Lee
I took some lessons as a kid but trained myself by ear. I did it the way jazz musicians used to learn years ago, which is to play records and slow them down to figure out the notes. At first I tried to imitate Red Garland, who was my favorite jazz pianist. ~ Donald Fagen
Problem Play quotes by Donald Fagen
Believe me, once you have tasted worship - the kind of worship that captures your heart and rivets your full attention on the living Lord - nothing less satisfies. Nothing else even comes close. Once you have tasted true worship, you will never want to play church again. ~ Charles R. Swindoll
Problem Play quotes by Charles R. Swindoll
I usually speak with all my drummers so that I write my songs with them in mind, and we'll have bass sounds, choir sounds, and then you can multi-task with all these orchestral sounds. Through the magic medium of technology, I can play all kinds of sounds - double bass and stuff. ~ Bat For Lashes
Problem Play quotes by Bat For Lashes
The importance of a problem should not be judged by the number of pages devoted to it. ~ Albert Einstein
Problem Play quotes by Albert Einstein
The subconscious mind comes into play in other less common brainwaves such as alpha, gamma, theta and delta. These brainwaves have also been shown to be activated when test subjects are laughing, daydreaming, meditating, singing, dancing or spontaneously moving about. ~ James Morcan
Problem Play quotes by James Morcan
I think what is nice about 'Elf,' and why it doesn't play as one long sketch, is that the character actually grows up during the course of the film. It's not just a character that you can keep checking in on and keep doing sketches about. It's a story. I'm pretty proud of how we told it. ~ Jon Favreau
Problem Play quotes by Jon Favreau
Problems are an important part of maturing
meet them straight on. Work them out. It's like the chick in the egg. It has to break through the eggshell on its own. That's how it gains its first strength. If you break the shell for the chick, you end up with a puny little runt. ~ Mark Tobey
Problem Play quotes by Mark Tobey
Work is when you confront the problems you might otherwise be tempted to run away from ~ Rolf Potts
Problem Play quotes by Rolf Potts
There's no use sitting on the bench

if you're not ready to play, right? ~ Chas Kramer
Problem Play quotes by Chas Kramer
In reality, finding a way to raise taxes may well be the central political problem facing the United States. ~ David Leonhardt
Problem Play quotes by David Leonhardt
When I play from my mind I get in trouble. ~ Stevie Ray Vaughan
Problem Play quotes by Stevie Ray Vaughan
The problem is that when you're not fighting for survival, it's easy to stop making decisions and fall into the trap of thinking you don't have to. Ambivalence is a luxury; thinking you can have it both ways is virtually synonymous with being spoiled. ~ Ben Ryder Howe
Problem Play quotes by Ben Ryder Howe
My problem has been with purely digital films. I feel the danger there is that the kind of short-cuts you end up having to take are the ones that are most telling in the main characters. ~ Rick Heinrichs
Problem Play quotes by Rick Heinrichs
I don't know why they're doing it. I have to assume that their motives are positive, not negative. But they don't understand the severity of the problem in this state. ~ Gray Davis
Problem Play quotes by Gray Davis
It's one of my strongest dance pieces - having just done Play Without Words which was veering away from a lot of dance - I thought it would be nice to go back to something with almost the most dance I'd done. ~ Matthew Bourne
Problem Play quotes by Matthew Bourne
You have to play with the mentality that you are about to lose your job, and that they're going to talk about 'The Other Guy' first. You have to think, 'I want my name mentioned first.' ~ Brett Favre
Problem Play quotes by Brett Favre
It feels like shit to be alone. To be in a place full of people and feel like they don't want you there. To feel like you're at a party you weren't invited to. No one even knows your name. No one wants to. No one cares. Are they laughing at you? Talking about you? Are they sneering at you like their perfect world would be so much better if you weren't there, messing up their view?
Are they just wishing you'd get the hint already and leave?
I feel like that a lot. I know it's pathetic to want a place among other people, and I know you'll say it's better to stand in a crowd and be wrong, but... I still feel that need all the time. Do you ever feel it? I wonder if the cheerleader feels it. When the music stops and everyone goes home? When the day is gone and she doesn't have anyone to entertain herself with? When she removes her makeup, taking off her brave face for the day, do the demons she keeps buried start playing with her when there's no one else to play with?
I guess not. Narcissists don't have insecurities, right?
Must be nice. ~ Penelope Douglas
Problem Play quotes by Penelope Douglas
I don't consider myself a musician who has achieved perfection and can't develop any further. But I compose my pieces with a formula that I created myself. Take a musician like John Coltrane. He is a perfect musician, who can give expression to all the possibilities of his instrument. But he seems to have difficulty expressing original ideas on it. That is why he keeps looking for ideas in exotic places. At least I don't have that problem, because, like I say, I find my inspiration in myself. ~ Thelonious Monk
Problem Play quotes by Thelonious Monk
Whoever wants to understand much must play much. ~ Gottfried Benn
Problem Play quotes by Gottfried Benn
No sinner is irreparable or irredeemable. No sin is so great that the blood of Jesus cannot cover it. His love is so deep and wide that he can, in one moment of our faith, forgive our past, present, and future sins. Sin is simply not a problem for God. ~ Judah Smith
Problem Play quotes by Judah Smith
The second German secret weapon is anti-Semitism, because if it is consistently pursued by Germany, it will become a universal problem which all nations will be forced to consider. ~ Robert Ley
Problem Play quotes by Robert Ley
You can't play with everything that looks playable, I guess even a child knows that. ~ M.F. Moonzajer
Problem Play quotes by M.F. Moonzajer
The problem is that relativism provides no sure foundation for a safe and orderly society. ~ Charles Colson
Problem Play quotes by Charles Colson
Crime is a social problem, and education is the only real deterrent. Look at all of us in prison; we were all truants and dropouts, a failure of the educational system. Look at your truancy problem, and you're looking at your future prisoners. Put the money there. ~ Wilbert Rideau
Problem Play quotes by Wilbert Rideau
Right before Pamela Anderson met Tommy Lee I got this crazy script to do this incredible movie with her where I play this cop with a young partner like Brad Pitt who is in love with Pamela Anderson and he gets killed in the line of duty and she falls in love with me and it gets really crazy. I turned that down. ~ Hulk Hogan
Problem Play quotes by Hulk Hogan
Bubba was the one person who wouldn't even bat an eyelash that Nick was talking to an "imaginary" friend. Heck, he'd probably bring one of his own out to play, too.
~Nick ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Problem Play quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Nerves are always a big problem for me, which is why I loved doing American sitcoms. Because you know when you do the take in front of the audience that you're going to do it again afterwards. A minute after you finish, you just go and do it again. So, there's that sort of safety net. And then if you made a little mistake or two, they'll go pick it up, so there's nothing to worry about. ~ John Cleese
Problem Play quotes by John Cleese
The point is to develop the childlike inclination for play and the childlike desire for recognition and to guide the child over to important fields for society. Such a school demands from the teacher that he be a kind of artist in his province. ~ Albert Einstein
Problem Play quotes by Albert Einstein
I've played in bands with A-team players around. But unless they can play together, it doesn't do any good. And you can take guys who may not stand on their own up against a bunch of individuals they might be compared to, but you put 'em together, man, and they are unique unto themselves in a way that no one else can touch. ~ Bobby Keys
Problem Play quotes by Bobby Keys
If you are going to take away war toys, then what are you to replace them with? Children need to feel courageous, brave, and assertive. They need to feel strong; that is the purpose of their play. ~ Brian Sutton-Smith
Problem Play quotes by Brian Sutton-Smith
That was the problem with having walls so hard and high and unscalable ... When they came down, they crumbled completely, shattering into nothingness. ~ L.J.Smith
Problem Play quotes by L.J.Smith
Play hard. Play smart. Play together. ~ Dean Smith
Problem Play quotes by Dean Smith
Only in hindsight do we understand how God intended a problem for good. ~ Rick Warren
Problem Play quotes by Rick Warren
But Jace", Clary said. "Valentine taught him more than just fighting. He taught him languages, and how to play the piano"
"That was Jocelyn's influence." Sebastian said her name unwillingly, as if he hated the sound of it. "She thought Valentine ought to be able to talk about books, art, music ... not just killing things. He passed that on to Jace."
A wrought iron blue gate rose to their left. Sebastian ducked under it and beckoned Clary to follow him. She didn't have to duck but went after him, her hands stuffed into her pockets. "What about you?" she asked.
He held up his hands. They were unmistakably her mother's hands - dexterous, long-fingered, meant for holding a brush or a pen. "I learned to play the instruments of war, " he said, "and paint in blood. I am not like Jace. ~ Cassandra Clare
Problem Play quotes by Cassandra Clare
If Christians do not develop their own tools of analysis , then when issues come up that they want to understand, they'll reach over and borrow someone else's tools- whatever concepts are generally accepted in their general field or in the culture at large.
But when they do that, Os Guiness writes, they don't realize that "They are borrowing not an isolated tool, but a whole philosophical toolbox laden with tools which have their own particular bias to every problem." They may even end up absorbing an entire set of alien principles without even realizing it.
In other words, not only do we fail to be salt and light to a lost culture, but we ourselves may end up being shaped by our culture. ~ Nancy Pearcey
Problem Play quotes by Nancy Pearcey
Human paint, produce films and videos; they dance, dream and make music; they engage in political action, exchange goods, perform rituals, build houses start wars, act in plays, try to please patrons- and so on ... They contain patterns, press the practitioners to "conform" and in this way mold their thought, their perception, their actions, and their discriminative abilities. ~ Paul Feyerabend
Problem Play quotes by Paul Feyerabend
I thought I did play one villain, Hitler, [who is] like Lecter in some ways, but he's a mythical figure, anyway. ~ Anthony Hopkins
Problem Play quotes by Anthony Hopkins
When I go out on court, I don't care what I look like. I don't care if I'm out of my bed as long as I win the match, and that's what I'm there for. It doesn't matter what I'm wearing, it doesn't matter what I look, it doesn't matter what my hair feels like. All I feel is the moment I have to play well, give my 100% and win the match. ~ Sania Mirza
Problem Play quotes by Sania Mirza
But not unlike the gremlins in the film of the same name who were transformed into nasty little critters if they were splashed or if they were fed after midnight, irrelevant nontalents can mutate into real weaknesses under one condition: As soon as you find yourself in a role that requires you to play to one of your nontalents-or area of low skills or knowledge-a weakness is born. ~ Donald O. Clifton
Problem Play quotes by Donald O. Clifton
There happened to be guitar classes at the college, and there was a guitar teacher there with whom I used to play. In addition, I also would go out into country schools and teach little kids basic guitar and singing a few times a week. ~ Mark Knopfler
Problem Play quotes by Mark Knopfler
Just remember that you are tougher than any problem. Just keep putting in your best and you shall tame the beast that is the JEE. ~ Paras Arora
Problem Play quotes by Paras Arora
The problem for me is that reading is, I won't say a sacred, but nevertheless a pretty serious act. ~ Joseph Epstein
