There's nothing we fear more than our own Reflection. We scream at the monsters within us, hidden deep within our hearts. We run and hide from the terrors all around us- the different mirrors that we see. ~ Solange Nicole
Monsters Within quotes by Solange Nicole
A very big problem we have, as a human race, is our repeated failure to identify and to acknowledge all of the parts within us and we collectively and individually spend time and energy on denying so many inner natures, in a hot pursuit of moral codes and annoying virtues, that we have shrunken away within ourselves and left on top merely a malnourished container which feeds on static energy (knee jerk emotions, responses to stimuli, etc.). We are afraid of the creatures that roam the woodlands within us and we are afraid of the abandoned castles, eerie lakes, old songs, forgotten gazebos, all of which are established on the inside of the mind. There is maybe an old chair in a corner of a diner inside of your mind and you push it away and away and further away instead of going back to it, to sit down on it, to have a milkshake at that table. We have forged a worldwide culture wherein we are constantly struggling towards a moral good and it is supposed to be a daily attainment, and yet, nobody ever is good enough at the end of the day. And so we have cut off pieces of ourselves–arms and legs–because everything is nothing, or is wrong, in our bids to be worthy. No wonder we are all so lonely. We have amputated ourselves, and one another, in a bid to run away from the souls which take residence inside of us. Then we blame this loneliness on the world, or on other people's cowardice, or on the stupidity of the human race... we have failed to embrace the monsters within us long en ~ C. JoyBell C.
Monsters Within quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Do you remember bedtime as a child? I was terrified of the dark. I was terrified of the closed closet door that surely cracked open when I wasn't looking and spewed out ghouls and devils. I took care that no arms or legs protruded from the bed. I sometimes slept with the covers over my head. Sweltering, panting, barely breathing. Not even my hair exposed, lest a monster discover and devour me. I remember begging my father to check under the bed. I remember trying to explain how some monsters had invisibility cloaks. He would kiss my cheek and switch off the light.

We stop looking under the bed once we realize that the monsters are inside us.

It's funny how they transform. Suddenly they don't mind daylight. Suddenly they dress nicely, speak our language, and share our customs. They sit next to us on the metro and jog around our neighborhoods. They slip things into our drinks at parties and offer us jobs. Sometimes we spot them, sometimes we don't. Sometimes we even do the unthinkable: we invite them to our bed. As adults, we burn down the sanctuaries we created as children. Our inner child freaks out, but its screams are drowned by our moans as our monsters bring us to orgasm. ~ Angela Panayotopulos
Monsters Within quotes by Angela Panayotopulos
The reason Armand Gamache could go there was because it wasn't totally foreign to him. He knew it because he'd seen his own burned terrain, he'd walked off the familiar and comfortable path inside his own head and heart and seen what festered in the dark. And one day Jean Guy Beauvoir would look at his own monsters, and then be able to recognize others. And maybe this was the day and this was the case. He hoped so. ~ Louise Penny
Monsters Within quotes by Louise Penny
You need to realize that Its not you, It's me, I'm the one who's destroying myself, I'm the one who's the monster, I'm the one who's drowning myself, and you , you're just a ken doll that I can work up, That I can manipulate and make believe that every things your fault and you need to leave me as soon as you can, before I turn you into me, before I destroy you, before I turn you into a heartless monster. ~ TheNightmaresAreReal
Monsters Within quotes by TheNightmaresAreReal
If it's a monster, we made it that way. ~ Shane Arbuthnott
Monsters Within quotes by Shane Arbuthnott
I also have always liked the monster within idea. I like the zombies being us. Zombies are the blue-collar monsters. ~ George A. Romero
Monsters Within quotes by George A. Romero
Our souls may be consumed by shadows, but that doesn't mean we have to behave as monsters. ~ Emm Cole
Monsters Within quotes by Emm Cole
As a child, I was afraid of the dark and the monsters on the outside.
As a man, I run away from the light, afraid to show the monsters within. ~ Anthony Liccione
Monsters Within quotes by Anthony Liccione
Where monsters lurked, love also waited.
Bigger than any monster could be. ~ Dianna Hardy
Monsters Within quotes by Dianna Hardy
We're all monsters. We're all careless and cruel in the end. ~ Mackenzi Lee
Monsters Within quotes by Mackenzi Lee
He was drawn to the edge of things. To the places old mariners knew, and warned, "Beyond here be monsters." ... He stepped into the beyond, and found the monsters hidden deep inside all the reasonable, gentle, laughing people. He went where even they were afraid to go. ~ Louise Penny
Monsters Within quotes by Louise Penny
Over-thinking, a devouring monster,
entice, only the inky reflections;
there's a pleasure you come by,
from this anomalous encounter;
kills your desire, for human affection. ~ Kashish Gurung
Monsters Within quotes by Kashish Gurung
Just as there are physical monsters, can there not be mental or psychic monsters born? The face and body may be perfect, but if a twisted gene or malformed egg can produce physical monsters, may not the same process produce a malformed soul?
Monsters are variations from the accepted normal to a greater or a less degree. As a child may be born without an arm, so one may be born without kindness or the potential of conscience. A man who loses his arms in an accident has a great struggle to adjust himself to the lack, but one born without arms suffers only from people who find him strange. Having never had arms, he cannot miss them. To a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself. To the inner monster it must be even more obscure, since he has no visible thing to compare with others. To a criminal, honesty is foolish. You must not forget that a monster is only a variation, and that to a monster the norm is monstrous. ~ John Steinbeck
Monsters Within quotes by John Steinbeck
For years, people always say, "Ah, what about the dunk. It's still two points." But it energizes a team. If you're down and you get a monster dunk, everybody gets psyched. "Oh yeah, let's go, let's go." So it was dying down a little bit and guys, I think, they took it upon themselves. They got energy on it and started trying different stuff. ~ Darryl Dawkins
Monsters Within quotes by Darryl Dawkins
I beheld the wretch-the miserable monster whom I had created. ~ Mary Shelley
Monsters Within quotes by Mary Shelley
The "just say no" campaign at this point is a lot like drawing sea-monsters over certain unexplored areas of the map and expecting people to stay away. It may work for some, but explorers live for this kind of thing. ~ Terence McKenna
Monsters Within quotes by Terence McKenna
Like gods, we have created a new universe called cyberspace that contains great good and ominous evil. We do not know yet if this new dimension will produce more monsters than marvels, but it is too late to go back. ~ David Horsey
Monsters Within quotes by David Horsey
Whatever comedian says he doesn't read comments, I never believe him, because we all have the same pathological problem to see what people think of us, and it sucks, because you try not to take it personally, and people are monsters and idiots. ~ Joe Mande
Monsters Within quotes by Joe Mande
The confused mass of rules of conduct called law, which has been bequeathed to us by slavery, serfdom, feudalism, and royalty, has taken the place of those stone monsters, before whom human victims used to be immolated, and whom slavish savages dared not even touch lest they should be slain by the thunderbolts of heaven. ~ Peter Kropotkin
Monsters Within quotes by Peter Kropotkin
So in the library there are also books containing falsehoods. ..."

"Monsters exist because they are part of the divine plan, and in the horrible features of those same monsters the power of the Creator is revealed. And by divine plan, too, there exist also books by wizards, the cabalas of the Jews, the fables of pagan poets, the lies of the infidels. It was the firm and holy conviction of those who founded the abbey and sustained it over the centuries that even in books of falsehood, to the eyes of the sage reader, a pale reflection of the divine wisdom can shine. And therefore the library is a vessel of these, too. But for this very reason, you understand, it cannot be visited by just anyone. And furthermore," the abbot added, as if to apologize for the weakness of this last argument, "a book is a fragile creature, it suffers the wear of time, it fears rodents, the elements, clumsy hands. If for a hundred and a hundred years everyone had been able freely to handle our codices, the majority of them would no longer exist. So the librarian protects them not only against mankind but also against nature, and devotes his life to this war with the forces of oblivion, the enemy of truth. ~ Umberto Eco
Monsters Within quotes by Umberto Eco
He remembered believing there had been a time when monsters roamed the earth. The brave hearted fought flesh-and-blood dragons instead of shadowboxing their inner demons, the sport of modern man. ~ Katherine Starbird
Monsters Within quotes by Katherine Starbird
My monsters were lovable monsters. I gave them names - some were evil and some were good. They made sales, and that's always been my prime object in comics. ~ Jack Kirby
Monsters Within quotes by Jack Kirby
Only hinted at in some of these tales, and clearly stated in others, it is apparent that there was a long and continuing conflict between paganism and Christianity in the early centuries A.D. This may also be the explanation behind other well creation tales, such as the slaying by St Barry of a 'great serpent' in County Roscommon. The saint thrust his crozier at it before it disappeared into Lough Lagan, and where his knee touched the ground, a holy well, Tobar Barry, sprang up. Although the serpent may represent paganism, and the saint's victory is therefore the victory of Christianity over paganism, we cannot entirely ignore the possibility that some of the serpents in similar Irish tales may have been real water monsters, which are still seen from time to time in the lakes of Ireland and Scotland. These eerie, ugly monsters, with their aura of primeval mystery, appropriately symbolize the uncouth savagery which the Christians attributed to all non-Christian beliefs; but that is not to say that the monsters were totally symbolic and did not have a reality of their own. ~ Colin Bord
Monsters Within quotes by Colin Bord
There are many types of monsters in this world, monsters who will not show themselves and who cause trouble. Monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood, and monsters who always tell lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance. They are much more cunning than other monsters. They pose as humans, even though they have no understanding of the human heart. They eat, even though they've never experienced hunger. They study even though the have no interest in academics. They seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such a monster, I would likely be eaten by it because, in truth, I am that monster. ~ L Lawliet
Monsters Within quotes by L Lawliet
I know now that the mythic monster I created was largely a fiction. ~ Peter Benchley
Monsters Within quotes by Peter Benchley
When reason sleeps, the monsters of repression will emerge. ~ Kate Morton
Monsters Within quotes by Kate Morton
Untouchability is a many-headed monster and forms, some of them so subtle as not to be easily detected. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Monsters Within quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
The piano is a monster that screams when you touch its teeth. ~ Andres Segovia
Monsters Within quotes by Andres Segovia
I'M PINOCCHIO. I KILL MONSTERS. ~ Van Jensen
Monsters Within quotes by Van Jensen
Monsters, ghost and everything spiritual and non-spiritual exists. Because we create it, the way to stop it..., is just to stop thinking about it. - (This is how I solve the problem) ~ Deyth Banger
Monsters Within quotes by Deyth Banger
I grew up as a little 4- and 5-year-old kid, watching Phil Tippett and my dad make monsters in our garage. That's what I did, as a child. ~ Robert Stromberg
Monsters Within quotes by Robert Stromberg
Back to my childhood where those monsters reside. They snack on innocence and dine on self esteem. ~ Jimmy Buffett
Monsters Within quotes by Jimmy Buffett
How was she able to imagine a world like this one, when all she had experienced was ice and sunlight and blood? There is no good answer to this question. Maybe the world was somehow implicit in the monster's body and her parents' organs. Maybe the Goddess could see into the future. Her abilities are many and not well understood. If so, she was able to use the world-that-came-into-existence as a model for the world-not-yet-made; and we, living and acting now, may be shaping the world at its moment of origin. In ~ Eleanor Arnason
Monsters Within quotes by Eleanor Arnason
When you confront the monster you fear the most, you'll defeat your fears. ~ David D. Burns
Monsters Within quotes by David D. Burns
I don't remember a single monster before I met you.' he'd told Amphibian. 'Now they seem to be all over the place.'
'You mean there wasn't anything you were afraid of?' the Amphibian had asked him.
'lots.'
'What did they look like?'
It was a funny question.
'They didn't look like anything. They were ideas,' Tom told him. 'Like not being able to pay rent, or being lonely.'
'That's the most terrifying thing I've ever heard.' the Amphibian replied. ~ Andrew Kaufman
Monsters Within quotes by Andrew Kaufman
Ignorance is the womb of monsters. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Monsters Within quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
Anne Rice really doesn't explore vampires as hideous monsters of the night, they're ancient creatures with a heart. And they want to be loved and they want connections just like we do. ~ James Marsters
Monsters Within quotes by James Marsters
When we talk about people who commit violence as monsters (or "superpredators," if you prefer), we often viciously deny them the benefits we afford to people we consider fully human, but we also do not hold them to the obligations to which we hold people whose humanity we do not question. ~ Danielle Sered
Monsters Within quotes by Danielle Sered
To these statements, Socrates, no one can offer a reply; but when you talk in this way, a strange feeling passes over the minds of your hearers: They fancy that they are led astray a little at each step in the argument, owing to their own want of skill in asking and answering questions; these littles accumulate, and at the end of the discussion they are found to have sustained a mighty overthrow and all their former notions appear to be turned upside down. And as unskilful players of draughts are at last shut up by their more skilful adversaries and have no piece to move, so they too find themselves shut up at last; for they have nothing to say in this new game of which words are the counters; and yet all the time they are in the right. The observation is suggested to me by what is now occurring. For any one of us might say, that although in words he is not able to meet you at each step of the argument, he sees as a fact that the votaries of philosophy, when they carry on the study, not only in youth as a part of education, but as the pursuit of their maturer years, most of them become strange monsters, not to say utter rogues, and that those who may be considered the best of them are made useless to the world by the very study which you extol. ~ Plato
Monsters Within quotes by Plato
There were no houses, no palace, no constructions of any sort; it was rather an immense sea, though the waters were invisible and the shore had disappeared. In this city, seated far from all things, sad last dream lost among the shadows, while the day faded and sobbing rose gently in the perspective of a strange horizon, Anne, like something which could not be represented, no longer a human being but simply a being, marvelously a being, among the mayflies and the falling suns, with the agonizing atoms, doomed species, wounded illnesses, ascended the course of waters where obscure origins floundered. She alas had no means of knowing where she arrived, but when the prolonged echoes of this enormous night were melting together into a dreary and vague unconsciousness, searching and wailing a wail which was like the tragic destruction of something nonliving, empty entities awoke and, like monsters constantly exchanging their absence of shape for other absences of shape and taming silence by terrible reminiscences of silence, they went out in a mysterious agony. ~ Maurice Blanchot
Monsters Within quotes by Maurice Blanchot
They're not monsters, either. Not men you'd shrink away from on the street. On the contrary. They're men you'd see at Mass, who'd give you a polite nod while they greet your husband. ~ Joy McCullough
Monsters Within quotes by Joy McCullough
I like something where I can really use my imagination and be an active participant in the construction of the monster and usually that's in the world of the supernatural or the world of the fantastic, so that's why those kinds of stories about demons and the supernatural appeal to me or maybe I'm really interested in that subject. ~ Sam Raimi
Monsters Within quotes by Sam Raimi
Kill off the sacred bear. Kill off the ancestral crocodile. Kill off the myth-wrapped tiger. Kill off the lion. You haven't conquered a people, or their place, until you've exterminated their resident monsters. ~ David Quammen
Monsters Within quotes by David Quammen
Maybe that's why you demonised them,
turned them into monsters,

because you think monsters are easier
to understand than women who say no to you. ~ Nikita Gill
Monsters Within quotes by Nikita Gill
Diversion is pernicious to depressives. Our lives are like waking dreams
correction, nightmares
where monsters chase us, never breaking off pursuit in order to rest or to eat or to look for easier prey. Diversion prevents us from confronting those monsters. If we never confront them, we have no hope of ever defeating them. Diversion does NOT work. ~ Northern Adams
Monsters Within quotes by Northern Adams
A monster is a person who has stopped pretending. ~ Colson Whitehead
Monsters Within quotes by Colson Whitehead
Good and bad were weak words. Monsters didn't care about intentions or ideals. The facts were simple. The South was chaos. The North was order. It was an order bought and paid for with blood and fear, but order all the same. ~ Victoria Schwab
Monsters Within quotes by Victoria Schwab
Silena, take the Aphrodite crew to the Queens-Midtown Tunnel."
Oh my gods," one of her sisters said. "Fifth Avenue is so on our way! We could accessorize, and monsters, like, totally hate the smell of Givenchy. ~ Rick Riordan
Monsters Within quotes by Rick Riordan
One of the many reasons for the bewildering and tragic character of human existence is the fact that social organization is at once necessary and fatal. Men are forever creating such organizations for their own convenience and forever finding themselves the victims of their home-made monsters. ~ Aldous Huxley
Monsters Within quotes by Aldous Huxley
Before the eyes of monks intent on meditation, what is the meaning of those ridiculous grotesques, those monstrous shapes and shapely monsters? Those sordid apes? Those lions, those centaurs, those half-human creatures, with mouths in their bellies, with single feet, ears like sails? Those spotted tigers, those fighting warriors, those hunters blowing their horns, and those many bodies with single heads and many heads with single bodies? Quadrupeds with serpents' tails, and fish with quadrupeds' faces, and here an animal who seems a horse in front and a ram behind, and there a horse with horns, and so on; by now it is more pleasurable for a monk to read marble than manuscript, and to admire the works of man than to meditate on the law of God. Shame! For the desire of your eyes and for your smiles! ~ Umberto Eco
Monsters Within quotes by Umberto Eco
Monsters don't die early; they hang on long. Awfully long. Their vanity's infinite, almost as infinite as their disgust with themselves. ~ Tennessee Williams
Monsters Within quotes by Tennessee Williams
Either the USSR was not the country of socialism, in which case socialism didn't exist anywhere and doubtless, wasn't possible: or else, socialism was that, this abominable monster, this police state, the power of beasts of prey ~ Jean-Paul Sartre
Monsters Within quotes by Jean-Paul Sartre
Battle not with monsters, for then you become one. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Monsters Within quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
My God, that scene in Monster Inc. where the monsters realise that their entire world is founded on hurting children -look at that for a change! Two galumphing cartoon characters making a shattering realisation about their world and their role in sustaining it. A truly epic moment. It's stunning. ~ Russell T. Davies
Monsters Within quotes by Russell T. Davies
The Alien bill proposed in the Senate is a monster that must forever disgrace its parents. ~ James Madison
Monsters Within quotes by James Madison
monsters always look just like ordinary men. ~ Deborah Harkness
Monsters Within quotes by Deborah Harkness
You speak of the hand of Fatma, my friends, but you do not know the terrible power of this hand, the hand of monsters that menace you and seduce you with their subterranean access, their metallic splintering, their inhuman grotesqueness of idols. ~ Georges Limbour
Monsters Within quotes by Georges Limbour
By night, I am free.
No one hears my monsters but me.
My freedom is fragile, though,
Because every morning,
Over and over,
The night is broken by the sun.
It's a good way to die. ~ Courtney Cole
Monsters Within quotes by Courtney Cole
The monsters were never under our bed, but in the forest our future. ~ Crystal Woods
Monsters Within quotes by Crystal Woods
Monsters did exist. They didn't hide under the bed, though. They stormed through the fucking door and stole away everything we loved.
To defeat a monster, I had to become one. ~ Keri Lake
Monsters Within quotes by Keri Lake
I like all my things to go right."
"That's not how the world works."
"It's how it should work," I say. I like plans that go smoothly. That's the beauty I believe in. Nothing is better than when things go exactly how I expect."
"I know that's what you like," he says, eyes squinting out the sun to peer down at me. "And there's comfort in that, sure. But there's comfort in knowing that when your plans fall apart, you can survive. That the worst thing imaginable can happen, but you can get through it. That's why I like to read horror fiction. It's not about the monsters. It's about the hero surviving them and living to tell the tale. ~ Jenn Bennett
