Blithe; he seething - until they had left the restaurant and started ~ Hanya Yanagihara
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Hanya Yanagihara
I always worked in institutions, I never had a restaurant of my own before, but I have opened over 30 hotels, restaurants and casinos. I understand what it takes to keep them running. ~ Robert Irvine
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Robert Irvine
The Germans had a word for everything - a word that could be very focused, very specific, because it could be constructed for a precise set of circumstances. They even had a word, it was said, for the feeling of envy experienced when one sees the tasty dishes ordered by others in a restaurant and it is too late to change one's own order. Mahlneid, meal envy, she believed that was the word - if it existed at all. ... Mahlneid could well catch on because many are bound to have felt that sort of envy as the waiter carries the dishes of others, gorgeously tantalising, past their own table.... ~ Alexander McCall Smith
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Alexander McCall Smith
I like to discover little treasures in the cities we are in like a really amazing restaurant. I will go on my own and enjoy figuring out the ingredients as if I were making it at home, then I share my finds on my socials. I find that these little adventures bring me peace, because it is something I do when I am home. ~ Noelle Scaggs
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Noelle Scaggs
Local waterways had long been contaminated from many sources. But in 1987, the state at last issued a seafood advisory for Bayou d'Inde, the Calcasieu Ship Channel, and the estuary to the Gulf of Mexico. ... From net to plate - fishermen, grocery stores, trucking companies, and restaurant workers - all were furious at the government officials who had declared the seafood advisory. ~ Arlie Russell Hochschild
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Arlie Russell Hochschild
The steam of the kitchen felt like a form of amnesia, which Hazel liked. She decided she'd recommend working in a restaurant to anyone who was trying to forget everything they'd ever done. ~ Alissa Nutting
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Alissa Nutting
In the restaurant kitchen, August meant lobsters, blackberries, silver queen corn, and tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes. In honor of the last year of the restaurant, Fiona was creating a different tomato special for each day of the month. The first of August (two hundred and fifty covers on the book, eleven reservation wait list) was a roasted yellow tomato soup. The second of August (two hundred and fifty covers, seven reservation wait list) was tomato pie with a Gruyère crust. On the third of August, Ernie Otemeyer came in with his wife to celebrate his birthday and since Ernie liked food that went with his Bud Light, Fiona made a Sicilian pizza- a thick, doughy crust, a layer of fresh buffalo mozzarella, topped with a voluptuous tomato-basil sauce. One morning when she was working the phone, Adrienne stepped into the kitchen hoping to get a few minutes with Mario, and she found Fiona taking a bite out of red ripe tomato like it was an apple. Fiona held the tomato out.
"I'd put this on the menu," she said. "But few would understand. ~ Elin Hilderbrand
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Elin Hilderbrand
There's a great Lebanese restaurant a few blocks over. They have the best shawarma in the world."
"What's shawarma?"
"You know what a gyro is?"
"No."
"Same thing. ~ Huston Piner
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Huston Piner
Many a restaurant seems to employ more copy writers than cooks. ~ Peg Bracken
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Peg Bracken
The entire restaurant moved around the center core of the elevator shaft and what must have been the kitchen space. ~ J.R. Ward
Meeders Restaurant quotes by J.R. Ward
Home Economics & Civics
What ever happened to the two courses that were cornerstone programs of public education? For one, convenience foods made learning how to cook seem irrelevant. Home Economics was also gender driven and seemed to stratify women, even though most well paid chefs are men. Also, being considered a dead-end high school program, in a world that promotes continuing education, it has waned in popularity. With both partners in a marriage working, out of necessity or choice, career-minded couples would rather go to a restaurant or simply micro-burn a frozen pre-prepared food packet. Almost anybody that enjoys the preparation of food can make a career of it by going to a specialty school such as the Culinary Institute of America along the Hudson River in Hyde Park, New York. Also, many colleges now have programs that are directed to those that are interested in cooking as a career. However, what about those that are looking to other career paths but still have a need to effectively run a household? Who among us is still concerned with this mundane but necessary avocation that so many of us are involved with? Public Schools should be aware that the basic requirements to being successful in life include how to balance and budget a checking and a savings account. We should all be able to prepare a wholesome, nutritious and delicious meal, make a bed and clean up behind one's self, not to mention taking care of children that may become a part of the family ~ Hank Bracker
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Hank Bracker
I can go into a restaurant; I might have to go a few times, taste something, love it and figure out exactly what is in there, and go home and duplicate it. ~ Tamala Jones
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Tamala Jones
I was working at a restaurant, I booked the role in 'Twilight,' put in my two weeks' notice, got fitted, flew to Portland, filmed, and then it started getting hype. That helped me get my foot into certain doors before the movie even came out. ~ Ashley Greene
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Ashley Greene
Hatred was easy. The permutations constant over the years: A stranger at a fair who palmed my crotch through my shorts. A man on the sidewalk who lunged at me, then laughed when I flinched. The night an older man took me to a fancy restaurant when I wasn't even old enough to like oysters. Not yet twenty. The owner joined our table, and so did a famous filmmaker. The men fell into a heated discussion with no entry point for me: I fidgeted with my heavy cloth napkin, drank water. Staring at the wall.

"Eat your vegetables," the filmmaker suddenly snapped at me. "You're a growing girl."

The filmmaker wanted me to know what I already knew: I had no power. He saw my need and used it against me. ~ Emma Cline
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Emma Cline
You hear horror stories about scary mothers who just want their kids to be famous. I could be waitressing in a restaurant, and my mum would be happy as long as I was happy. ~ Maisie Williams
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Maisie Williams
Since the road to publication is usually so arduous, meandering and fraught with unexpected twists, writers have ample time to compose (in their heads or on fettuccini-stained restaurant napkins) dissertation-length monologues befitting that of a Shakespearean lead character, during which they describe - in complex, paragraph-long sentences - how exceedingly indebted they are to everyone they've ever met, read a book by or chatted about "Motivation" with online (in their entire lives) for the help given in the writing, acquisition, printing and distribution of their debut novels. ~ Marilyn Brant
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Marilyn Brant
As a restaurateur, my job is to basically control the chaos and the drama. There's always going to be chaos in the restaurant business. ~ Rocco DiSpirito
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Rocco DiSpirito
The thought flits through my mind that dozens of women have probably been here before me, but it is countered by another: 'I drink from the same glasses as everyone else when I'm in a restaurant and eat from the same plates using the same forks, so what the hell is the difference?' Especially as restaurants are very careful about cleanliness and these snow-white and perfectly ironed sheets exude the kind of freshness that even newborn babies would envy. ~ Victoria Sobolev
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Victoria Sobolev
Simply put, dramatic irony is when a person makes a harmless remark, and someone else who hears it knows something that makes the remark have a different, and usually unpleasant, meaning. For instance, if you were in a restaurant and said out loud, "I can't wait to eat the veal marsala I ordered," and there were people around who knew that the veal marsala was poisoned and that you would die as soon as you took a bite, your situation would be one of dramatic irony. ~ Lemony Snicket
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Lemony Snicket
I walked out of the Chinese restaurant with a fat check, a record deal, and a box of shrimp egg foo yung! ~ Solomon Burke
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Solomon Burke
Uber drivers, summoned by phone, awaited them and drove them to the restaurant. This 'sleight of hand' was Father Jon's idea. Jennifer felt like an actress in a James Bond movie, but she appreciated the subterfuge. ~ Mark M. Bello
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Mark M. Bello
Traditional British desserts with lots of custard are my biggest weakness - I particularly love the puds at St. John restaurant in East London. ~ Eva Green
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Eva Green
Leander was supposed to go to London with both of the Shockings. In the end, Mrs. Schocking declined but insisted that the men go as planned. Basil chose the restaurant for the evening, but kept its name and location shrouded in secrecy. All Leander knew was to dress for dinner and that Basil promised a good time. ~ Dean Frech
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Dean Frech
I'm someone who'd never base how happy I am on how much money I have, or how good a restaurant is because of how posh it is. ~ Jessie J.
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Jessie J.
I wanna try being a waiter at restaurant or work to introduce Korea to other people! ~ Seungri
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Seungri
The hardest novel to write was Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant. ~ Anne Tyler
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Anne Tyler
In Hawaii, many were especially helpful and supportive of this project, but nobody more than Mary Kennedy and Frank "Bamboo" Opperman. My landlords became close friends, and their Mokuleia compound will always hold a special place in my heart. Mokuleia equestrian Michael Daly was also extremely helpful to both Mike Ritter and myself. Another special thanks goes to Duc Nguyen and Minh Nga Vu, the proprietors of Duc's Bistro. The restaurant provided a safe harbor at a very tumultuous time in the project. Their generosity, grace, and delicious ~ Peter Maguire
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Peter Maguire
And you know, I hate to admit this, but I don't always think in terms of Shakespeare. When I eat, I do. When I'm at a restaurant, I'll think, 'Hmm, what would Macbeth have ordered?' ~ Liev Schreiber
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Liev Schreiber
I don't understand people who eat Chinese food with chopsticks when the restaurant also offers silverware. As a tool, chopsticks are inferior to western utensils like the spoon and fork. So why use them? That's like showing up to a math test with an abacus, knowing that the teacher is going to be handing out calculators. ~ Jarod Kintz
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Jarod Kintz
Back then, come July, and the blazers would again make their way out of the steel trunks and evenings would be spent looking at snow-capped mountains from our terrace and spotting the first few lights on the hills above. It was the time for radishes and mulberries in the garden and violets on the slopes. The wind carried with it the comforting fragrance of eucalyptus. It was in fact all about the fragrances, like you know, in a Sherlock Holmes story. Even if you walked with your eyes closed, you could tell at a whiff, when you had arrived at the place, deduce it just by its scent. So, the oranges denoted the start of the fruit-bazaar near Prakash ji's book shop, and the smell of freshly baked plum cake meant you had arrived opposite Air Force school and the burnt lingering aroma of coffee connoted Mayfair. But when they carved a new state out of the land and Dehra was made its capital, we watched besotted as that little town sprouted new buildings, high-rise apartments, restaurant chains, shopping malls and traffic jams, and eventually it spilled over here. I can't help noticing now that the fragrances have changed; the Mogra is tinged with a hint of smoke and will be on the market tomorrow. The Church has remained and so has everything old that was cast in brick and stone, but they seem so much more alien that I almost wish they had been ruined.'
('Left from Dhakeshwari') ~ Kunal Sen
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Kunal Sen
By the time Kevin picks me up and we get seated at the restaurant, I'm so famished I'm ready to eat my napkin. Instead, I point across the room and say, "Look, doesn't that girl look like Becky Brady from high school?" And as he turns to take a gander, I grab a roll and stuff it into my purse. I try the trick once more and by the time I have secreted away two rolls with pats of butter, I excuse myself to use the ladies room. I sit on the toilet and devour them both in seconds. They are the best thing I've ever eaten and I would kill to have the remaining two here in the bathroom with me. Yet once the initial euphoria of my crime wears off, I immediately feel guilty. ~ Whitney Dineen
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Whitney Dineen
You will stumble on secrets. Hidden all over the restaurant: Mexican oregano, looking cauterized, as heady as pot. Large tins of Chef's private anchovies from Catalonia hidden behind the bulk olive oil. Quarts of grassy sencha and tiny bullets of stone-ground matcha. Ziplock bags of masa. In certain lockers, bottles of sriracha. Bottles of well whiskey in the dry goods. Bars of chocolate slipped between books in the manager's office.

And people too, with their secret crafts, their secret fluency in other languages. The sharing of secrets is a ceremony, marking kinship. You have no secrets yet, so you don't know what you don't know. But you can intuit it while holding yourself on the skin of the water, treading above deep pockets, faint voices underneath you. ~ Stephanie Danler
Meeders Restaurant quotes by Stephanie Danler
them, behind the trees, the strange Italian restaurant that had brought these, their real bodies, to this, the real, present world of Krikkit. The strong grass under their feet was real, the rich soil real, too. The heady fragrances from the tree, too, were real. The night was real night. Krikkit. Possibly the most dangerous place in the Galaxy for anyone who isn't Krikkiter to stand. ~ Douglas Adams
