Reading is at the threshold of the spiritual life; it can introduce us to it. It does not constitute it ... There are certain cases of spiritual depression in which reading can become a sort of curative discipline ... reintroducing a lazy mind into the life of the Spirit. ~ Marcel Proust
Lazy Mind quotes by Marcel Proust
The wind of God's grace is incessantly blowing. Lazy sailors on the sea of life do not take advantage of it. But the active and strong always keep the sails of their minds unfurled to catch the favorable winds and thus reach their destination very soon. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Lazy Mind quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
Journalism is an enemy of rationality. What makes news? The unusual and the spectacular, which by their nature distort reality and pervert our decisions. You read headlines like 15 KILLED IN PLANE CRASH IN WYOMING. You don't read headlines like ANOTHER 2,000 DIED OF HEART DISEASE YESTERDAY. This leads to the Availability Fallacy. Our lazy mind gloms on to the most vivid, emotional examples. When we think of danger, we think of hideous plane crashes or acts of terrorism, even though boring old cars kill eighty-four times more people. ~ A. J. Jacobs
Lazy Mind quotes by A. J. Jacobs
Wishing is a form of inspiration for the lazy mind but taking Action, Persisting and finding alternative routes to your destination against all odds is the definition of a SUCCESSFUL Venture. ~ Oscar Bimpong
Lazy Mind quotes by Oscar Bimpong
Any argument that asserts that 'God did it' is a sign of a lazy mind. ~ Peter Atkins
Lazy Mind quotes by Peter Atkins
Most autumns, the water is low from the long dry summer, and you have to get out from time to time and wade, leading or dragging your boat through trickling shallows from one pool to the long channel-twisted pool below, hanging up occasionally on shuddering bars of quicksand, making six or eight miles in a day's lazy work, but if you go to the river at all, you tend not to mind. You are not in a hurry there; you learned long since not to be. ~ John Graves
Lazy Mind quotes by John Graves
Some things do not come to us automatically; we must induce them to come our way. ~ Bangambiki Habyarimana
Lazy Mind quotes by Bangambiki Habyarimana
Like many other men, Swann had a naturally lazy mind and lacked imagination. He knew perfectly well as a general truth that human life is full of contrasts, but in the case of each individual human being he imagined all that part of his or her life with which he was not familiar as being identical with the part with which he was. He imagined what was kept secret from him in the light of what was revealed. ~ Marcel Proust
Lazy Mind quotes by Marcel Proust
You live in your body, but your ever-changing body is not who you are. You live through situations, but they come and go and are not who you are. You have thoughts, but the thousands of thoughts that pass through your mind are not who you are. Remaining ~ Mary Nurriestearns
Lazy Mind quotes by Mary Nurriestearns
Even after making up one's mind to the sacrifices I
had decided upon, there is always left a trace of envy
for those who have triumphed in the melancholy
struggle for literary supremacy ~ Paul Bourget
Lazy Mind quotes by Paul Bourget
The past
the wild charge at the head of his men up San Juan Hill; the first years of his marriage when he worked late into the summer dusk down in the busy city for young Hildegarde whom he loved; the days before that when he sat smoking far into the night in the gloomy old Button house on Monroe Street with his grandfather-all these had faded like unsubstantial dreams from his mind as though they had never been. He did not remember. ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Lazy Mind quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
Poor writing is lazy, careless writing, an attempt to communicate without adequate preparation or care. It is writing replete with passive construction, limp verbs, leaden clichés, mixed metaphors, dangling participles and misplaced modifiers, and other enemies of clear prose. ~ Mark Nichol
Lazy Mind quotes by Mark Nichol
All her life, from the time she was eight or nine years old, Gloria had relied on a neat, nearly automatic little trick of her mind for adjusting to minor disappointments. When you opened the bright wrappings of some meager or poorly chosen gift, you simply let your mind tell you it was just what you wanted; that way you could always make the right response, and you could even believe it. ~ Richard Yates
Lazy Mind quotes by Richard Yates
Every morning I wake up, it's kind of like wow, I don't know what happened or how it happened, I can't put my finger on it, but I'm grateful. I'm grateful to be alive. To spend one more day with my family. One more day to make my dreams become a reality. One more day to help somebody. So the first thought on my mind is, thank you god for another day. ~ Eric Thomas
Lazy Mind quotes by Eric Thomas
People have become separated from their bodies. They are no longer whole. I see them move from their offices to their cars and on to their suburban homes. They stress out constantly, they lose sleep, they eat badly. And they behave badly. Their egos run wild; they become motivated by that which will eventually give them a massive stroke. They need the Iron Mind. ~ Henry Rollins
Lazy Mind quotes by Henry Rollins
Alexis, please mind your mouth. Cursing in Russian is still cursing. ~ G.S. Jennsen
Lazy Mind quotes by G.S. Jennsen
Now it is a noticeable fact that we do not much mind what men think of us, or what humiliating secret they discover of our means, parentage, or object, provided that each thinks and acts thereupon in isolation. It is the exchange of ideas about us that we dread most; and the possession by a hundred acquaintances, severally insulated, of the knowledge of our skeleton-closet's whereabouts, is not so distressing to the nerves as a chat over it by a party of half-a-dozen - exclusive depositaries though these may be. ~ Thomas Hardy
Lazy Mind quotes by Thomas Hardy
Sometimes we adopt certain beliefs when we're children and use them automatically when we become adults, without ever checking them out against reality. This brings to mind the story of the woman who always cut off the end of the turkey when she put it in the oven. Her daughter asked her why, and her mother responded, "I don't know. My mother always did it." Then she went and asked her mother, who said, "I don't know. My mother always did it." The she went and asked her grandmother, who said, "The oven wasn't big enough." ~ Charlotte Sophia Kasl
Lazy Mind quotes by Charlotte Sophia Kasl
Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude. ~ Lou Holtz
Lazy Mind quotes by Lou Holtz
Chamberlain closed his eyes and saw it again. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. No book or music would have that beauty. He did not understand it: a mile of men flowing slowly, steadily, inevitably up the long green ground, dying all the while, coming to kill you, and the shell bursts appearing above them like instant white flowers, and the flags all tipping and fluttering, and dimly you could hear the music and the drums, and then you could hear the officers screaming, and yet even above your own fear came the sensation of unspeakable beauty. He shook his head, opened his eyes. Professor's mind. But he thought of Aristotle: pity and terror. So this is tragedy. Yes. He nodded. In the presence of real tragedy you feel neither pain nor joy nor hatred, only a sense of enormous space and time suspended, the great doors open to black eternity, the rising across the terrible field of that last enormous, unanswerable question. ~ Michael Shaara
Lazy Mind quotes by Michael Shaara
The attitude, and the mind, is where it all starts. ~ John Smith
Lazy Mind quotes by John Smith
It made me shiver. And I about made up my mind to pray, and see if I couldn't try to quit being the kind of a boy I was and be better. So I kneeled down. But the words wouldn't come. Why wouldn't they? It warn't no use to try and hide it from Him. Nor from ME, neither. I knowed very well why they wouldn't come. It was because my heart warn't right; it was because I warn't square; it was because I was playing double. I was letting ON to give up sin, but away inside of me I was holding on to the biggest one of all. I was trying to make my mouth SAY I would do the right thing and the clean thing, and go and write to that nigger's owner and tell where he was; but deep down in me I knowed it was a lie, and He knowed it. You can't pray a lie--I found that out.

So I was full of trouble, full as I could be; and didn't know what to do. At last I had an idea; and I says, I'll go and write the letter--and then see if I can pray. Why, it was astonishing, the way I felt as light as a feather right straight off, and my troubles all gone. So I got a piece of paper and a pencil, all glad and excited, and set down and wrote:

Miss Watson, your runaway nigger Jim is down here two mile below Pikesville, and Mr. Phelps has got him and he will give him up for the reward if you send.

HUCK FINN.

I felt good and all washed clean of sin for the first time I had ever felt so in my life, and I knowed I could pray now. But I didn't do it straight off, but laid ~ Mark Twain
Lazy Mind quotes by Mark Twain
Thinking is an exercise of an imaginative mind to empower dreams and desires. ~ Debasish Mridha
Lazy Mind quotes by Debasish Mridha
May every citizen ... have a proper sense of the Deity upon his mind and an impression of the declaration recorded in the Bible, 'Him that honoreth Me I will honor, but he that despiseth Me shall be lightly esteemed.' ~ Samuel Adams
Lazy Mind quotes by Samuel Adams
The curiosity of an honorable mind willingly rests there, where the love of truth does not urge it farther onward, and the love of its neighbor bids it stop; in other words, it willingly stops at the point where the interests of truth do not beckon it onward, and charity cries, Halt! ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Lazy Mind quotes by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Education is awakening of curious mind. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Lazy Mind quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Premature satisfaction with half-success is a dream-killer of ambition , nobody should indulge in it. ~ Osunsakin Adewale
Lazy Mind quotes by Osunsakin Adewale
I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process. ~ Vincent Van Gogh
Lazy Mind quotes by Vincent Van Gogh
The motive for metaphor ... is a desire to associate, and finally to identify, the human mind with what goes on outside it, because the only genuine joy you can have is in those rare moments when you feel that although we may know in part, as Paul says, we are also a part of what we know. ~ Northrop Frye
Lazy Mind quotes by Northrop Frye
Rhys couldn't help wondering... had he known the first time he'd met Helen that this man was her father, would it have mattered?
Maybe at first. He wasn't sure. But there was no doubt that eventually he would have succumbed to the irresistible attraction of Helen, the magic she would always hold for him. In his mind, there was no connection between Helen and Vance, regardless of physical resemblance, blood, or heredity. There was only good in Helen. That gentle, valiant spirit, that perfect mixture of strength and kindness, was all her own. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Lazy Mind quotes by Lisa Kleypas
As usual, Junko thought about Jack London's 'To Build a Fire.' It was the story of a man traveling alone through the snowy Alaskan interior and his attempts to light a fire. He would freeze to death unless he could make it catch. The sun was going down. Junko hadn't read much fiction, but that one short story she had read again and again, ever since her teacher had assigned it as an essay topic during summer vacation of her first year in high school. The scene of the story would always come vividly to mind as she read. She could feel the man's fear and hope and despair as if they were her own; she could sense the very pounding of his heart as he hovered on the brink of death. Most important of all, though, was the fact that the man was fundamentally longing for death. She knew that for sure. She couldn't explain how she knew, but she knew it from the start. Death was really what he wanted. He knew that it was the right ending for him. And yet he had to go on fighting with all his might. He had to fight against an overwhelming adversary in order to survive. What most shook Junko was this deep-rooted contradiction.
The teacher ridiculed her view. 'Death is really what he wanted? That's a new one for me! And strange! Quite 'original,' I'd have to say.' He read her conclusion aloud before the class, and everybody laughed.
But Junko knew. All of them were wrong. Otherwise how could the ending of the story be so quiet and beautiful? ~ Haruki Murakami
Lazy Mind quotes by Haruki Murakami
When there is so much left unsaid, your mind is free to fill in the words that were never exchanged in a hundred thousand different ways... ~ Mhairi McFarlane
Lazy Mind quotes by Mhairi McFarlane
I don't mind anybody coming after me as long as they're coming with facts. ~ Nelson Peltz
Lazy Mind quotes by Nelson Peltz
As long as you wish to separate yourself from the immortal consciousness, you will suffer. You will experience the pain of the separation, the abridgment of infinite mind in finite form. ~ Frederick Lenz
Lazy Mind quotes by Frederick Lenz
There are two ways to deal with a major setback: one is to pause, take a deep breath, clear your mind and go home, distract yourself for the evening, and come back fresh the next day to start over. The other is to immediately resubmerge, put your head under and dive to the bottom, work an hour longer than you did last night, and stay in the moment of what went wrong. While the first way is a good path toward adequacy, it is the second way that leads to important discoveries. One ~ Hope Jahren
Lazy Mind quotes by Hope Jahren
I don't mind doing the green-screen stuff at all, and in fact it's a lot like black-box theater, which I did plenty of in New York. ~ Gabriel Macht
Lazy Mind quotes by Gabriel Macht
While I was a voracious movie-goer as a boy, I never put writing and films together in my mind. ~ Christopher McQuarrie
Lazy Mind quotes by Christopher McQuarrie
This is why boys don't play with dolls. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go and freak out in the next room. ~ Rin Chupeco
Lazy Mind quotes by Rin Chupeco
The Positive Paradigm is:

. . . a new, inclusive reality map, one people worldwide can easily comprehend and agree upon. It is equally compatible with scriptures and science, bridging the gap between them. It fulfills Einstein's intuited search for the Unified Field Theory, picturing how all parts of creation are related, interwoven and interdependent.

Working with the Positive Paradigm empowers the "substantially new manner of thinking," which, Einstein said, is necessary "if mankind is to survive."
For thousands of years, this genesis formula, the very heart of the creative process, was hidden as the secret treasure of initiates. Its knowledge was transmitted exclusively to qualified students in the inner circles of monastic schools. When Einstein intuited the theory of relativity and made it available to the general public, its long-foreseen abuse materialized. To Einstein's horror, it was misused to explode atomic bombs.

This context justifies making the positive application of Einstein's inspired vision equally public now. For in its traditional context, this three-part formula is an essential piece of the knowledge puzzle. It has the powerful potential to offset earlier abuse with opposite and equally unifying results. A timely shift to the Positive Paradigm could tip the scales of history in favor of human survival.
p. 11. ~ Patricia E. West
Lazy Mind quotes by Patricia E. West
Whether people accept you or not, don't worry! Just live such that when you leave your distinctive footprints will make them ponder and wonder how they should never have let you go. Have an understanding mind and stay focused to leave such noble footprints that will make your absence give them reasons for change. You are not all that ordinary; when you get to know who you truly are, with a well balanced understanding, humility and courage, don't conform at all. Do your best and let your footprints be distinctive! ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Lazy Mind quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
The bonds that unite another person to our self exist only in our mind. ~ Marcel Proust
Lazy Mind quotes by Marcel Proust
The school remained open. I thanked Allah that the Americans operated differently. Had the Lebanese lost 241 men in one day, and had we the power and the reach, we would have American males hung from their testicles and set on fire. The frame of mind that dictates our actions quashes our ability to develop the power and reach exhibited by the Americans, I thought. ~ Sam Wazan
Lazy Mind quotes by Sam Wazan
Whiskey makes the heart beat faster
but it sure doesn't help the
mind and isn't it funny how you can ache just
from the deadly drone of
existence? ~ Charles Bukowski
Lazy Mind quotes by Charles Bukowski
The world is not interested in titles and positions, all it wants is your creative mind and the genuinity of the work your hands. ~ Euginia Herlihy
Lazy Mind quotes by Euginia Herlihy
There can be no two opinions as to what a highbrow is. He is the man or woman of thoroughbred intelligence who rides his mind at a gallop across country in pursuit of an idea. ~ Virginia Woolf
Lazy Mind quotes by Virginia Woolf
He could follow someone's mind around, and get where it was going before the other fellow knew where it was going. ~ Robert A. Caro
Lazy Mind quotes by Robert A. Caro
Listening to the bell I feel the afflictions in me begin to dissolve. My mind becomes calm, my body relaxed, and a smile is born on my lips. Following the sound of the bell, my breath guides me back to the safe island of mindfulness. In the garden of my heart, the flower of peace blooms beautifully. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Lazy Mind quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
The river seems to be holding itself up before you like a page opened to be read. There is no knowing how the currents move. They shift and boil and eddy. They are swifter in some places than in others. To think of 'a place' on the flowing surface soon baffles your mind, for the 'places' are ever changing and moving. The current in all its various motions and speeds flows along, and that flowing may be stirred again at the surface by the wind in all its various motions. Who can think of it? Maybe the ducks have mastered it, and the little grebes who are as much at home underneath as on top and who ride the currents for pleasure. ~ Wendell Berry
Lazy Mind quotes by Wendell Berry
It's only through effort that we learn what an idea actually is, and if our passion for it will last or fade. There is no shame in failure - all makers fail. But it's hard to respect someone who never tries, even once, to do something good that's always on their mind. If you're worried about how good your idea is, you're worrying about the wrong thing. ~ Scott Berkun
Lazy Mind quotes by Scott Berkun
Only meditation, only silence, only transcending beyond your mind is going to give you contentment and fulfillment. ~ Rajneesh
