We belong to each other now really and truly, no make-believe. Doesn't it seem queer for me to belong to someone at last? It seems very, very sweet. And I shall never let you be sorry for a single instant.

Yours, for ever and ever,

Judy ~ Jean Webster
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Jean Webster
When I wrote War Against the Mafia as a Vietnam statement, I didn't expect much to come of it-but quite a bit came and it captured me. I continued the books to feed the obvious hunger that was there for heroic fiction. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
NAMBLA's infiltrated First Recon,' Person continues after bringing the vehicle to a stop. 'There's a guy in Third Platoon, hes going to be collecting photographs of all the children and sending them back to NAMBLA HQ. Back at Pendleton he volunteers at the daycare center. He goes around collecting all the turds from the five-year-olds and puts them into Copenhagen tins. Out there everyone thinks he's dipping, but it's not tobacco. It's dookie from five-year-olds. ~ Evan Wright
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Evan Wright
Hell was not for the living, it was for the dead, even the hallowed dead. Let the dead rest in peace. Someday Mack Bolan, too, would rest. For now, he had to find his way among the living. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
I am the One, the all and the only. I live in the Pendleton as surely as I live everywhere. I am the Pendleton's history and its destiny. The building is my place of conception, my monument, my killing ground. ~ Dean Koontz
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Dean Koontz
Ever since Roberta Wohlstetter's pathbreaking study of why the United States was taken by surprise at Pearl Harbor 50 years ago, both academics and members of the Intelligence Community (IC) have made significant progress in understanding intelligence failures. About how to correct these errors and do better we know much less, however, and it is to this subject that this volume makes a major contribution. --Foreword to Cases in Intelligence Analysis: Structured Analytic Techniques in Action ~ Robert Jervis
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Robert Jervis
In dire times of survival it's not uncommon for people to turn to their faith and that was also true for the men on the oil tanker Pendleton, which was cut in half by 60-foot waves during the hurricane. ~ Jim Whittaker
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Jim Whittaker
Mack Bolan was simply a man who could command himself. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
This cosmic dance of bursting decadence and withheld permissions twists all our arms collectively, but if sweetness can win, and it can, then I'll still be here tomorrow to high-five you yesterday, my friend. Peace. ~ Pendleton Ward
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Pendleton Ward
From an early age I was aware of what America meant, and how the Marines at Camp Pendleton were ready to defend us at a moment's notice. I also remember what fabulous bodies those troops had. ~ Heather Locklear
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Heather Locklear
Every writer is working from his own individual world view, and that can become as characteristic as a fingerprint. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
In competition, everything is very well planned in advance and very well detailed. You just stick to the plan, keep your head down and be as disciplined as possible in every aspect, whether sleep, recovery or the intensity of your training. And it's all recorded; the data is analysed. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
There's mainstream pornography--soft-core airbrushed fluff such as Penthouse and Playboy. The folks makin' this stuff do men and their range of desires a disservice; their implication is that anything outside the "big hair, fake tits, tiny waste, no pores, limited body hair" aesthetic is deviant, weird, not normal--and not something that a red-blooded American man would be interested in. The common boys-will-be-boys explanation for porn--that men get turned on visually (in contrast to "feminine" mode of arousal, which is mental and emotional)--is nothing more than an insult, making men out to be Pavlovian dogs who salivate uncontrollably and strain at their trousers upon contact with nudie pictures.
Antiporn arguments, however well-meaning, are no better. Folks like Catherine MacKinnon also believe that men are inherently drawn to porn. And to them, porn is by definition violent, suggesting that it's somehow in men's nature to be aroused by hurting others. Furthermore, antipornography activists think that porn leads men to commit violence--as if men have no self-control or capacity to separate fantasy from reality, as if an erection is a driving force that can't be stopped once it's started... The only difference is one of perspective: Antiporn folk believe that male sexuality is always threatening, while men's-magazine editors think it's always fabulous. ~ Lisa Jervis
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Lisa Jervis
The violence in the Executioner books is merely stage-dressing for dramatizing the commitment and dedication Bolan has to his ideals and the lengths to which he will go to honor them. We can learn this message of love and commitment and carry it into our own lives without the violence and bloodshed, and of course it is this wish that fuels the writing. I do not want my readers to pick up a gun and follow Bolan's example; I want them to be stirred by his commitment and to find ways to meet the same challenges without resort to violent means. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
I really love routine and so I've never found it a problem. I really enjoy it. I don't mind somebody organising what I have to do. I'm a creature of habit in some ways. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
Perceptions of the world and of other actors diverge from reality in patterns that we can detect and for reasons that we can understand. ~ Robert Jervis
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Robert Jervis
I'm accustomed to being top man. I been a bull goose catskinner for every gyppo logging operation in the Northwest and bull goose gambler all the way from Korea, was even bull goose pea weeder on that pea farm at Pendleton
so I figure if I'm bound to be a loony, then I'm bound to be a stompdown dadgum good one. ~ Ken Kesey
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Ken Kesey
No engineer can go upon a new work and not find something peculiar, that will demand his careful reflection, and the deliberate consideration of any advice that he may receive; and nothing so fully reveals his incapacity as a pretentious assumption of knowledge, claiming to understand everything. ~ John B. Jervis
Jervis Pendleton quotes by John B. Jervis
Well, but, Mrs. Jervis, said I, let me ask you, if he can stoop to like such a poor girl as me, as perhaps he may, (for I have read of things almost as strange, from great men to poor damsels,) What can it be for? - He may condescend, perhaps, to think I may be good enough for his harlot; and those things don't disgrace men that ruin poor women, as the world goes. ~ Samuel Richardson
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Samuel Richardson
Mack Bolan is a classic American hero. Readers like him and I feel very good about that. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
I have served many long and lonely years aboard ship in war zones, and the only thing that kept me sane during all that enforced loneliness was my access to a good library in which I read, literally, every book on the shelves, even textbooks, and which gave me access to other worlds no way open to me. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
I like to eat healthily anyway and I think I've become more disciplined now I've retired - because I'm such a creature of habit, I don't find it hard to do. I quite enjoy the challenge. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
I don't think I really knew how fit I was when I was a kid. I rode with my dad quite long distances and I've been racing since the age of nine, so we did a lot of sport growing up. My earliest memories of my dad are watching him race, so it was inevitable when we were old enough that my brother and I would get on bikes. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
The tone of his remarks filled me with a burning desire to kick Mr. Horridge; but that being impracticable, I should certainly, if left to myself, have told him to go to the devil and forthwith walked out of the house. ~ R. Austin Freeman
Jervis Pendleton quotes by R. Austin Freeman
Steve [sports psychiatrist] had already taught me to try and stop worrying so much about pleasing everyone. We knew that this was one of my most draining flaws and he again used three groups to clarify my thinking. There would always be some people, Steve said, who would care about me and love me. In contrast there would also be a select group of people who would never warm to me - no matter what I did. And in the middle came the overwhelming mass who were largely indifferent to any of my failures or triumphs. I needed to understand that most people didn't really care what I did or said. All my anguish about how they might perceive me was redundant. Steve helped me realize that I spent too much time trying to please those oblivious people in the middle or, more problematically, the small group who would never change their critical opinion of me. I should concentrate on the people who really did show concern for me. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
Avarice seems to have so pervaded our vital principles as to battle all hopes of a remedy but for peace and plenty. ~ Edmund Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Edmund Pendleton
Ashton Ford will come as something of a surprise to those of you who have been with me over the years. This is not the same type of fiction that established my success as a novelist; Ford is not a gutbuster and he is not trying to save the world from anything but its own confusion. There are no grenade launchers or rockets to solve his problems and he is more of a lover than a fighter. I have grown, I hope, both as a person and as a writer, and I needed another vehicle to carry the creative quest. Ashton Ford is that vehicle. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
She's got the kind of ethereal, unselfconscious beauty some young girls possess that breaks your heart. Or theirs. ~ Ilsa J. Bick
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Ilsa J. Bick
In addition to the original Executioner series I have also written a number of other works with diverse taste, even poetry. None, however, have provided the pleasure of touching so many people from so many lands as have the Executioners. ~ Don Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Don Pendleton
The grief in her green eyes slips then hardens and, for an instant, Pendleton sees the woman she has become and has no right being, not at sixteen. ~ Ilsa J. Bick
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Ilsa J. Bick
It really is all about believing in yourself: 80 per cent mental, 20 per cent physical. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
It's a risky business being a cyclist in the UK, there are a lot of people who really dislike us. It's the Jeremy Clarkson influence - we're hated on the roads. We just hope people realise we are just flesh and bones on two wheels. ~ Victoria Pendleton
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Victoria Pendleton
Mark Twain married the daughter of one of New York State's leading Abolitionists, Jervis Langdon, who helped Frederick Douglass who became the great Negro leader to escape from slavery. ~ Hal Holbrook
Jervis Pendleton quotes by Hal Holbrook
I have an evening dress, pink mull over silk (I'm perfectly beautiful in that), and a blue church dress, and a dinner dress of red veiling with Oriental trimming (makes me look like a Gipsy), and another of rose-coloured challis, and a grey street suit, and an every-day dress for classes. That wouldn't be an awfully big wardrobe for Julia Rutledge Pendleton, perhaps, but for Jerusha Abbott - Oh, my! ~ Jean Webster
