A holiday gives one a chance to look backward and forward; to reset oneself by an inner compass. ~ May Sarton
Inner Compass quotes by May Sarton
Most other people, your wife included, with her unerring inner compass, seem to be able to get around without difficulty. They know where they are, where they have been, and where they are going, but you know nothing, you are forever lost in the moment, in the void of each successive moment that engulfs you, with no idea where true north is, since the four cardinal points do not exist for you, have never existed for you. A minor infirmity until now, with no dramatic consequences to speak of, but that doesn't mean a day won't come when you accidentally walk off the edge of a cliff. ~ Paul Auster
Inner Compass quotes by Paul Auster
I think it's so important as an actor that you hang on to your own inner compass, because so many people want to guide you - 'This is what you should you be doing'. But I want to do different things. ~ Michelle Ryan
Inner Compass quotes by Michelle Ryan
Always obey your self-respect. Your self-respect is just like an inner compass guiding you. Love your husband and family but never let them exploit you. ~ Shiv Sangal
Inner Compass quotes by Shiv Sangal
Early in her career, Muse engaged her skills for technical purposes, such as document translation and schematic visualizations for government entities. She continued to write and paint poetically, in secret, using her pen name, Muse. An inner compass is evident in her work. Pieces reflect both past and present dilemmas; while showcasing her victories in overcoming these obstacles ~ all from her faith based perspective. Light touches of modernism play hand in hand with old world strokes, offering highly visceral readings. ~ Earl M. Coleman
Inner Compass quotes by Earl M. Coleman
Each of us has an inner compass. Its voice calls us to our highest good. Sometimes it requires that we alter a longstanding but stifling situation. It is difficult to face the severing or alteration of a relationship even when we know such change is for the highest good. ~ Julia Cameron
Inner Compass quotes by Julia Cameron
Something deep in the human soul awakens as things fall apart. Something in the soul knows that everything in this world can become lost. And something in the soul knows how to survive periods of devastation, disorientation and loss. Descent and falling is the way of the soul from its beginning. We each fell from the womb of life when the waters of the inner sea broke and it came time for us to breathe on our own. ~ Michael Meade
Inner Compass quotes by Michael Meade
Every one of us will go through things that destroy our inner compass and pull meaning out from under us. Everyone who does not die young will go through some sort of spiritual crisis, where we have lost our sense of what is right and wrong, possible and impossible, real and not real. Never underestimate how frightening, angering, confusing, devastating it is to be in that place. Making meaning of what is meaningless is hard work. Soul-searching is painful. This process of making or finding meaning at the end of life is what the chaplain facilitates. ~ Kerry Egan
Inner Compass quotes by Kerry Egan
You will find the path of life when your inner compass is ready. ~ Debasish Mridha
Inner Compass quotes by Debasish Mridha
How aware are we of our own inner life, our spirituality-something so intangible yet so priceless? How much effort do we make to perceive that which is not obvious, which can neither be seen nor heard? I believe the exploration and enrichment of the human spirit is what determines our very humanity. Such enrichment provides an inner compass that can lead civilizations to greatness. ~ Daisaku Ikeda
Inner Compass quotes by Daisaku Ikeda
Your gut is your inner compass. ~ Oprah Winfrey
Inner Compass quotes by Oprah Winfrey
What allows people to have such a strong inner compass, a North Star that steers them through life according to the dictates of their deepest values and purposes? ~ Daniel Goleman
Inner Compass quotes by Daniel Goleman
It was civilization itself which inflicted this wound upon modern man. Once the increase of empirical knowledge, and more exact modes of thought, made sharper divisions between the sciences inevitable, and once the increasingly complex machinery of State necessitated a more rigorous separation of ranks and occupations, then the inner unity of human nature was severed too, and a disastrous conflict set its harmonious powers at variance. The intuitive and the speculative understanding now withdrew in hostility to take up positions in their respective fields, whose frontiers they now began to guard with jealous mistrust; and with this confining of our activity to a particular sphere we have given ourselves a master within, who not infrequently ends by suppressing the rest of our potentialities. While in one a riotous imagination ravages the hard-won fruits of the intellect, in another the spirit of abstraction stifles the fire at which the heart should have warmed itself and the imagination been kindled. ~ Friedrich Schiller
Inner Compass quotes by Friedrich Schiller
Sense of place is the sixth sense, an internal compass and map made by memory and spatial perception together. ~ Rebecca Solnit
Inner Compass quotes by Rebecca Solnit
It is not the end of the physical body that should worry us. Rather, our concern must be to live while we're alive - to release our inner selves from the spiritual death that comes with living behind a facade designed to conform to external definitions of who and what we are. ~ Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Inner Compass quotes by Elisabeth Kubler Ross
You know I understand how you feel.... the loneliness that sets in....how empty your heart aches wishing you had someone near....to hold... to kiss and love. That type of passion poets write about...that person your souls yearns yet can not find....that love that all time will lie down and be still for.... but at last it feels ever more like a cruel joke and fickle fate which has no plans of happiness....we drudge on with our existence trying to make sense of it....then slowly you feel the light dim....till it blows out. You've set yourself in complete darkness, with no direction, fully immersing yourself in confusion, doubt and suffer. Feeding your starving desires with delusions; completely disabling your inner mind from seeing the ugly truth beyond the shattered reality. You look at yourself through a contaminated mirror, seeing what you want to see from a certain angle, completely ignoring the faults and imperfections hidden under the surface. I petty the day that will wash your fickle images, scattering your true colors to yourself not more... As I see through what you choose to hide. ~ N2
Inner Compass quotes by N2
When there is no tension between the inner beingness and that which is being expressed, there is grace. ~ Donna Goddard
Inner Compass quotes by Donna Goddard
My relationship with God is what gives me a moral compass on what decisions to make and that stuff. I'm thankful that I have the people around me that I do, and they remind me each day of who I am and what I stand for. ~ Alyson Stoner
Inner Compass quotes by Alyson Stoner
You bring out a lot of your own thoughts and attitudes when acting. I think a great deal of it has to do with the inner you. ~ Ginger Rogers
Inner Compass quotes by Ginger Rogers
As he plunged inside her with his tongue, delving deep into her inner core, he knew the sweet nectar was heaven itself. He licked his lips, the taste of her lingering on his tongue. He wanted more. Always more. ~ Nikki Landis
Inner Compass quotes by Nikki Landis
According
to my own experience, the highest level of inner calm comes from the
development of love and compassion. The more concerned we are with the
happiness of others, the more we increase our own well-being.
Friendliness and warmth towards others allow us to relax and help us to
dispel any sense of fear or insecurity so we can overcome whatever
obstacles we face. ~ Dalai Lama
Inner Compass quotes by Dalai Lama
The modern virtues fail because they concern the outer self, the human facade, the part of ourselves the world sees most readily – while the classical virtues form an organizing framework for our inner selves… for our souls. ~ Jonathan V. Last
Inner Compass quotes by Jonathan V. Last
Inside each of us there is a marvelous compass which greatly favors life, freedom and vitality. ~ Bryant McGill
Inner Compass quotes by Bryant McGill
You are always trying to change me. Gosh, I wish you would stop trying to change me - and see me for who I really am and not who you want me to be. ~ Charlena E. Jackson
Inner Compass quotes by Charlena E. Jackson
A writer with her work needs to be like a dog with a bone all the time. She needs to know where she's hidden it. Where she's stored the good stuff. She needs to keep gnawing at it, even after all the meat seems to be gone. When a student of mine says (okay, whines) that she's impatient, or tired, or the worst: isn't it good enough? this may be harsh, but she loses just a little bit of my respect. Because there is no room for impatience, or exhaustion, or self-satisfaction, or laziness. All of these really mean, simply, that the inner censor has won the day. ~ Dani Shapiro
Inner Compass quotes by Dani Shapiro
The end of anything is a relief. In every relationship, even the most valuable, there are certain unpleasant tensions - and the ending of it snaps those taut inner wires. ~ Kathleen Winsor
Inner Compass quotes by Kathleen Winsor
Oh my God, does art engender humanity? It awakens your humanity. But humanity has nothing to do with political theory. Political theory is in the interests of one group of humanity, or one ideal for humanity. But humanity-my heavens, that's what proper art renders. We have a paradox. Going into the deepest aspects of inner space connects you with something that is the most vital for the outer realm. ~ Joseph Campbell
Inner Compass quotes by Joseph Campbell
It's possible to satisfy the needs of the inner life by an intimate communion with nature, or by knowledge of the past. ~ Adolf Hitler
Inner Compass quotes by Adolf Hitler
In our parts such characters sometimes turn up that, however many years ago you met them, you can never recall them without an inner trembling. ~ Nikolai Leskov
Inner Compass quotes by Nikolai Leskov
I am very well aware of the fact that best learning is the learning from within, but due to his essential temperaments, the layman always goes for the outside knowledge, what others say. ~ Anu Lal
Inner Compass quotes by Anu Lal
To listen is very hard, because it asks of us so much interior stability that we no longer need to prove ourselves by speeches, arguments, statements, or declarations. True listeners no longer have an inner need to make their presence known. They are free to receive, to welcome, to accept.
Listening is much more than allowing another to talk while waiting for a chance to respond. Listening is paying full attention to others and welcoming them into our very beings. The beauty of listening is that, those who are listened to start feeling accepted, start taking their words more seriously and discovering their own true selves. Listening is a form of spiritual hospitality by which you invite strangers to become friends, to get to know their inner selves more fully, and even to dare to be silent with you. ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen
Inner Compass quotes by Henri J.M. Nouwen
The most potent muse of all is our own inner child. ~ Stephen Nachmanovitch
Inner Compass quotes by Stephen Nachmanovitch
Try not thinking of peeling an orange. Try not imagining the juice running down your fingers, the soft inner part of the peel. The smell. Try and you can't. The brain doesn't process negatives. ~ Douglas Coupland
Inner Compass quotes by Douglas Coupland
The outer conditions of a person's life will always be found to be harmoniously related to his inner state ... Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are. ~ James Allen
Inner Compass quotes by James Allen
I don't really care what a public figure thinks. I care about what he does. Let God probe his inner heart. ~ Charles Krauthammer
Inner Compass quotes by Charles Krauthammer
Almost all people suffer some form of intense inner pain at some times in their lives. The suffering might be depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or suicidal thoughts and it results from the battles we wage against our thoughts as we futilely try to get rid of our historie. ~ Steven C. Hayes
Inner Compass quotes by Steven C. Hayes
Life happens at its own pace and in its own time. It has a mind of its own. Your rushing through it only increases your stress levels and makes you anxious. You can do nothing to Life. At all times, in all contexts, you are never in control – Life is! And all you can and must do is to learn to live fully with what is. This does not mean inaction – trusting the process of Life is a lot of action; of keeping the faith and being patient. So, sit quietly doing whatever you can in a given context. And whatever must happen alone will happen; whatever is due to you alone will flow to you…on its own. When you are calm, you are non-worrying, non-frustrated and non-suffering and only when you are in this state will you see how perfect your Life really is! ~ AVIS Viswanathan
Inner Compass quotes by AVIS Viswanathan
Everything around you, especially your home environment, mirrors your inner self. So by changing your home, you also change the possibilities in your own life. Removing the obstacles to the harmonious flow of energy in your living environment creates more harmony in your life and the space for wonderful new opportunities to come to you. ~ Karen Kingston
Inner Compass quotes by Karen Kingston
Music is a means of giving form to our inner feelings, without attaching them to events or objects in the world. ~ George Santayana
Inner Compass quotes by George Santayana
Purpose, joy and inner peace are the only status symbols worth having. ~ Anthon St. Maarten
Inner Compass quotes by Anthon St. Maarten
According to Shaivism, anupaya may also be reached by entering into the infinite blissfulness of the Self through the powerful experiences of sensual pleasures. This practice is designed to help the practitioner reach the highest levels by accelerating their progress through the sakta and sambhava upayas. These carefully guarded doctrines of Tantric sadhana are the basis for certain practices, like the use of the five makaras (hrdaya) mentioned earlier. The experience of a powerful sensual pleasure quickly removes a person's dullness or indifference. It awakens in them the hidden nature and source of blissfulness and starts its inner vibration. Abhinavagupta says that only those people who are awakened to their own inner vitality can truly be said to have a heart (hrdaya). They are known as sahrdaya (connoisseurs). Those uninfluenced by this type of experiences are said to be heartless. In his words:

"It is explained thus - The heart of a person, shedding of its attitude of indifference while listening to the sweet sounds of a song or while feeling the delightful touch of something like sandalpaste, immediately starts a wonderful vibratory movement. (This) is called ananda-sakti and because of its presence the person concerned is considered to have a heart (in their body) (Tantraloka, III.209-10).

People who do not become one (with such blissful experiences), and who do not feel their physical body being merged into it, are said to be heartless because t ~ Balajinnatha Pandita
Inner Compass quotes by Balajinnatha Pandita
Is yours an honest lament? ... Most are not, you know. Most self-imposed burdens are founded on misperceptions. We - at least we of sincere character - always judge ourselves by stricter standards than we expect others to abide by. It is a curse, I suppose, or a blessing, depending on how one views it ... Take it as a blessing, my friend, an inner calling that forces you to strive to unattainable heights. ~ R.A. Salvatore
Inner Compass quotes by R.A. Salvatore
He stares at the them, mid mouthful. 'Please,' he says, after he's swallowed. 'It's bad enough that the middle-aged are having sex, without thinking of my aunt doing it. And I don't know why someone just doesn't tell Sam to use a condom instead of impregnating the women of the inner-west. ~ Melina Marchetta
Inner Compass quotes by Melina Marchetta
Whenever a time arises where clarity is desired, it is always wise to reflect on the sage within. ~ Sereda Aleta Dailey
Inner Compass quotes by Sereda Aleta Dailey
Those who thank God much are the truly wealthy. So our inner happiness depends not on what we experience but on the degree of our gratitude to God, whatever the experience. ~ Albert Schweitzer
Inner Compass quotes by Albert Schweitzer
Individual Peace paves the way for world peace. The attainment of inner calm is the greatest work you can do for humanity. ~ Sivananda
Inner Compass quotes by Sivananda
For I regard memory not as a phenomenon preserving one thing and losing another merely by chance, but as a power that deliberately places events in order or wisely omits them. Everything we forget about our own lives was really condemned to oblivion by an inner instinct long ago. ~ Stefan Zweig
Inner Compass quotes by Stefan Zweig
When you reach the heart of life you shall find beauty in all things, even in the eyes that are blind to beauty. ~ Khalil Gibran
Inner Compass quotes by Khalil Gibran
Did I ever tell you about Asin? She is the wild woman of the woods. It's an old story of the People. My mom used to tell me about Asin. Asin couldn't bear being married or having children or having friends. She always wanted to run wild. She ran wild through the woods. If you saw her running you had to run to water as fast as you could and drink or her restlessness would come into you like a thirst that could never be quenched. She was happy and unhappy. She had wild long hair and she was very tall and she ran like the wind. When you saw dunegrass rippling in a line she was running through it. When the wind changed direction suddenly that was Asin. She was never satisfied or content and so she ran and ran and ran. She would grab men who were fishing alone and make love to them and then throw them down on the ground and run away weeping. She would grab children who wandered too far alone in the woods but she would return them to the same spot after three days and run away again. She would listen to women talking by the fire or working in the village or gathering berries but if they invited her to join them she ran away. You could hear her crying sometimes when the sun went down. She wanted something but she never knew what it was so she had nothing. She was as free as anyone ever could be and she was trapped. When I was young I wanted to be Asin. Many times I wanted to be Asin. So do you, Nora. I know. It's okay. It's alright. My sweet love. Poor Asin. Sometimes I think to be ~ Brian Doyle
Inner Compass quotes by Brian Doyle
I think that painting relates very neatly to inner travel and the exploration of inner worlds. With painting, I always get the impression that you're sort of entering into a shared space. ~ Joe Bradley
Inner Compass quotes by Joe Bradley
I'm a classic example of what can happen if you follow your inner voice. I was cursed with interests and some talent in many different areas. It confuses people. ~ Dirk Benedict
Inner Compass quotes by Dirk Benedict
Conflict forces us to be fully present because it shatters our ego – stripping away all hope of escape or sugar coating. It removes everything that is nonessential to our authentic being; it removes all superficial layers. Conflict is painful because it wakes us up out of our created illusions. And if we lean into it, conflict can be the catalyst to our enlightenment. ~ Alaric Hutchinson
Inner Compass quotes by Alaric Hutchinson
Never Let Your Inner Mental Peace Be Disturbed By External Circumstances. ~ Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa
Inner Compass quotes by Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa
You cannot define electricity. The same can be said of art. It is a kind of inner current in a human being, or something which needs no definition. ~ Marcel Duchamp
Inner Compass quotes by Marcel Duchamp
This has resulted in more and more people becoming inner-directed and having as their only goal, getting as much as they can get out of the system and putting as little into it as possible. ~ Robert Teeter
Inner Compass quotes by Robert Teeter
This is the definition of clutter: things that exist in your outer life to distract you from the inner things that you're avoiding. If you avoid something, it grows.... The great thing is, the reverse is also true: when you honestly look at something, it shrinks. When you see the situation for what it is, bypassing the emotional layers that coloured it and made it into a clutter monster, it becomes simple. That's how peaceful clutter busting is. You're honestly looking at each layer of distraction, questioning the thing, letting it go, and realizing what's underneath. Looking directly at something has the power of a magnifying glass in the sun. The sun is you; the glass, your attention ~ Brooks Palmer
Inner Compass quotes by Brooks Palmer
Is there anything that satisfy the soul like the Truth? ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Inner Compass quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
When he's sliding down my body and planting greedy kisses on my inner thighs. "Better than ice cream," he rasps against my sensitive flesh, his tongue coming out to tickle my clit. "So much sweeter, baby." Then he captures the little bud between his lips and sucks hard enough to make me cry out. "Oh my God," I choke. My fingers tangle in his hair, keeping him trapped between my thighs. "Keep doing that." His laughter vibrates through my body. He continues to suckle me while one finger teases my folds, circling my opening until finally, slowly, slipping inside. I gasp in delight and rock against him. He's rocking, too, I realize. He's all but fucking the mattress as he licks and sucks and groans. ~ Sarina Bowen
