I'm a first-time father, and it was amazing to me to learn that my son could actually use sign language before the spoken word. I could see this intelligence in his eyes before he could speak: how he could understand what was going on around him and was frustrated by that. ~ Matt Reeves
Spoken Word quotes by Matt Reeves
A man's words reveal, first, the man. The words are not the man, and yet they reveal him faithfully and are to be identified with him. Out of the abundance of the heart, the man speaks. The foundational nature of all language is therefore metaphorical because every word a man speaks reveals himself - just as God reveals Himself through the Word. Every word spoken ultimately reveals the speaker. ~ N.D. Wilson
Spoken Word quotes by N.D. Wilson
The real meaning of the spoken word has to be demonstrated by practical deeds ~ Nelson Mandela
Spoken Word quotes by Nelson Mandela
The spoken word was the first technology by which man was able to let go of his environment in order to grasp it in a new way. ~ Marshall McLuhan
Spoken Word quotes by Marshall McLuhan
When I was in school, I was very much into just sports, mostly basketball, and didn't really see myself as much of a student. But once I got into college, I figured I wasn't going to be play beyond college. I started to think what was I going to do, since I wouldn't be able to make a living with basketball. There were a couple of things I liked to do. I wrote poetry, spoken word mostly. ~ Matt De La Pena
Spoken Word quotes by Matt De La Pena
All epoch-making revolutionary events have been produced not by the written, but by the spoken word. ~ Adolf Hitler
Spoken Word quotes by Adolf Hitler
Music and text have several commonalities, and one is meter and rhythm. Both spoken word and music have certain regularities, and they can be sub-divided rhythmically. ~ Jeff Britting
Spoken Word quotes by Jeff Britting
The ability to make somebody feel something: that's art. However you look at it, whether you're an author, a painter, a singer, a rapper, a spoken-word artist - art. ~ Wale
Spoken Word quotes by Wale
In the textbook of revelation, the Bible, God has spoken verbally; and this spoken word has survived every scratch of the human pen. ~ Billy Graham
Spoken Word quotes by Billy Graham
Is it spoken word? Kinda, but that's a weird area. Is it comedy? Well, it's funny but no, it's not comedy. ~ Bruce McCulloch
Spoken Word quotes by Bruce McCulloch
My love is my soul's imagination ...
how do I love you ... imagine. ~ Saul Williams
Spoken Word quotes by Saul Williams
Reading a piece of poetry with no beat in front of 20 people is way more challenging than rocking for 10,000 people. ~ Macklemore
Spoken Word quotes by Macklemore
As a flower that is lovely and beautiful, but is scentless, even so fruitless is the well-spoken word of one who practices it not. ~ Gautama Buddha
Spoken Word quotes by Gautama Buddha
Comeback records always worry me, especially when they're made by one of my heroes, and I'd heard stories about Gil Scott-Heron recently, about drug arrests and prison terms and other troubles. I wasn't prepared for the ravaged shakiness of his voice on this record or the raw spoken word pieces or the dark electronic backgrounds. ~ Will Hermes
Spoken Word quotes by Will Hermes
On the field of battle, the spoken word does not carry far enough; hence the institution of gongs and drums ... banners and flags. Gongs and drums, banners and flags, are means whereby the ears and eyes of the host may be focused on one particular point. ~ Sun Tzu
Spoken Word quotes by Sun Tzu
Though sincerity is a word which rings its meaning in the mind when it is mentioned, its real meaning in real sense is neither the meaning we imagine nor the spoken word but in action. Yes, it is action that determines what sincere means in reality. Real action that stands the test of time does not only give a true meaning to the word sincere in our mind and mind's eye but it also creates a real picture of who a real sincere person is in our minds and mind's eye. ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Spoken Word quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
It is not by way of language that I shall transmit what is within me; for it is inexpressible in words. I can but signify this insofar as you may understand it through other channels than the spoken word; by love's miracle or because, born of the same God, we are akin. Else I have to drag it out, laboriously
that sunken world within me. And thus, as my clumsiness avails, I display this or that aspect alone
as in the case of my mountain, of which I may say merely that it is high. But it is far more than that, and behind those weak words I have in mind the far-flung glory of the night when one stands on the heights, alone and shivering, amongst the stars. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Spoken Word quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
At this point in my life - age 24 - I have chosen a fairly strange path that not many are walking. I am a professional spoken word poet who tours the world performing and teaching. I run an organization called Project VOICE dedicated to using this art form as an education and empowerment tool in schools and communities of all kinds. ~ Sarah Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Sarah Kay
My falling in love with spoken word poetry definitely came out of that time period where all the adults around me were failing to supply me with any answers. Everyone was too busy dealing with things that were more important. I was pretty lost and invisible. And all of a sudden, this world opened up where I could get on stage and perform in front of my peers. People would listen to me and see me, and people would say, "That thing you created was important." And that was so validating and necessary at that specific moment. ~ Sarah Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Sarah Kay
[Comedian Jerry Seinfeld was nominated for a Grammy for his spoken-word children's album] Halloween ... Don't Give Up on Me. ~ Jamie Lee Curtis
Spoken Word quotes by Jamie Lee Curtis
Like a beautifully brightly colored flower without fragrance, is the well-spoken word without action. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Spoken Word quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
the world is being built up by greedy people wanting higher towers and then there's a war or a hurricane or a tsunami or a virus or a financial collapse
happening
to put things in balance.
this has happened all through history and the humankind survives and moves on.
this is not an exception: this is a rule.
and you are not granted to stay here, that is not your right. you were handed a gift of walking here for a little while, breathing the air, feeling things, but did you say thank you? ever? or just took for granted, carried life like a burden and now you're being angry because suddenly things outside of your control are threatening your peace?
why do you let your peace depend on things outside of your control in the first place? ~ Charlotte Eriksson
Spoken Word quotes by Charlotte Eriksson
Everybody's born to do a certain thing
and if you're dead jimmy you've found it.
And if you're good at something,
just keep doing it
until you're fed up ... then do something else.
look..
You're here to make babies and look after the place.
You know ?
(Billy Connolly) Spoken Word on
Spiritual city: -Off of Glastonbury Song ~ Mike Scott
Spoken Word quotes by Mike Scott
Animals do feel like us, also joy, love, fear and pain but they cannot grasp the spoken word. It is our obligation to take their part and continue to resist the people who profit by them, who slaughter them and who torture them. ~ Denis De Rougemont
Spoken Word quotes by Denis De Rougemont
High school was the first time I ever saw spoken word poetry. The first place I ever performed a poem was at my school, so in some ways it was the nucleus of how it all started. For me I think high school was a period of trying to figure myself out, and poetry was one of the ways I did that, and was a very helpful avenue to try to do that. ~ Phil Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Phil Kay
It was my ambition all of my life to be master of the spoken word. ~ Winston Churchill
Spoken Word quotes by Winston Churchill
Spoken word poetry is the art of performance poetry. I tell people it involves creating poetry that doesn't just want to sit on paper, that something about it demands it be heard out loud or witnessed in person. ~ Sarah Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Sarah Kay
We somehow must become what we are not, sacrificing what we are, to inherit the masquerade of what we will be. ~ Shane Koyczan
Spoken Word quotes by Shane Koyczan
Your internal dialogue has got to be different from what you say. And, you know, in film, hopefully that registers and speaks volumes. It's always the unspoken word and what's happening behind someone's eyes that makes it so rich. ~ Viola Davis
Spoken Word quotes by Viola Davis
It's not a natural translation, transition, to take something from stage to screen. Onstage your action is communicated through the spoken word primarily, and on screen it's communicated through pictures. So it's always been kind of unnatural to take something that lives on the stage and turn it into moving pictures. ~ Tracy Letts
Spoken Word quotes by Tracy Letts
The poem springs from the half spoken words of the patient ... When asked, how I have for so many years continued an equal interest in medicine and the poem, I reply that they amount for me to nearly the same thing. ~ William Carlos Williams
Spoken Word quotes by William Carlos Williams
[M]ay not literature (and, in particular, fiction) be considered a desperate and permanently thwarted effort to produce a unique form of expression? Something like a cry, perhaps, a cry that, somehow, inexplicably contains all the millions of words that have ever existed, anywhere, in any age. In contrast with the spoken word and its classifying function, the purpose of writing seems, rather, to be a quest for the egg, the seed, nothing more. ~ Jean-Marie G. Le Clezio
Spoken Word quotes by Jean-Marie G. Le Clezio
I work because I love it. It's a projection of myself. It allows me to express my enthusiasm for music and film using the spoken word, which I love, and broadcasting, a medium which has always fascinated me. I'm very lucky. ~ Paul Gambaccini
Spoken Word quotes by Paul Gambaccini
Photographs have the kind of authority over imagination to-day, which the printed word had yesterday, and the spoken word before that. They seem utterly real. They come, we imagine, directly to us without human meddling, and they are the most effortless food for the mind conceivable. Any description in words, or even any inert picture exists in the mind. But on the screen the whole process of observing, describing, reporting, and then imagining, has been accomplished for you. ~ Walter Lippmann
Spoken Word quotes by Walter Lippmann
A true Dominant also knows the value of the spoken word. His words are chosen carefully with full awareness of their consequences, and he respects their power. And your words, Mr. Morrison, hold great power. ~ Ella Dominguez
Spoken Word quotes by Ella Dominguez
I appreciate the written word and spoken word more, but Atonement sort of established so much of me. It was a character that didn't really speak, and I found that a lot of the roles I was gravitating toward after that were kind of nonverbal. ~ Saoirse Ronan
Spoken Word quotes by Saoirse Ronan
I am nothing if not misanthropic," declared Sebastian.
"I think you mean philanthropic," said Henry.
"God, you are so perdantic."
"That would be pedantic."
"See! You're even perdantic about the word perdantic. ~ Kevin Ansbro
Spoken Word quotes by Kevin Ansbro
All great movements are popular movements. They are the volcanic eruptions of human passions and emotions, stirred into activity by the ruthless Goddess of Distress or by the torch of the spoken word cast into the midst of the people. ~ Adolf Hitler
Spoken Word quotes by Adolf Hitler
The Living Word has various dimensions in relation to power and will to power. The spoken word stands at the very bottom of the involuted scale, being the faint echo of the inaudible Word. All beings, from the Gods to mankind, possess a sound, an essential name, a key note. By discovering what it is, one acquires the power to decompose and recreate it. It is also a mantra of voluntary death and resurrection. In the current parlance: the individual, chromosomic, genetic code has been deciphered. The secret has been penetrated. The name to which we refer corresponds to the supratemporal being and has nothing to do with the intimate, family name, although sometimes a delicate synchronicity is produced within a turn of the wheel, a mysterious lucky occurrence filled with meaning, and this name may also be symbolic.

'You must discover your Beloved's real name if you are to bring her back to life. And yours, too. They are the names of the God and Goddess to whom they will give a face. 'Of the God within you', as the Hindu greeting says: Namaste. 'I greet the God within you'.

'The essential name cannot be chosen, it isn't arbitrary. It is filled with meaning of the root note. It is mantra, an eternal designation. It is inscribed in the Book of the Stars, on the Tree of Life, awaiting its actualisation. The initiate of our order is given his real name when he has successfully undergone the most difficult tests. Then it is inscribed in the genealogical tree of t ~ Miguel Serrano
Spoken Word quotes by Miguel Serrano
The power which has always started the greatest religious and political avalanches in history rolling has from time immemorial been the magic power of the spoken word, and that alone. The broad masses of the people can be moved only by the power of speech. ~ William L. Shirer
Spoken Word quotes by William L. Shirer
I will speak that I may find relief"; for there is a redemptive quality for an agitated mind in the spoken word, and a tormented soul finds peace in confessing. ~ Joseph B. Soloveitchik
Spoken Word quotes by Joseph B. Soloveitchik
... apart from its function as communication, human language also often functions as a defense. The spoken word conceals the expressive language of the biological core. In many cases, the function of speech has deteriorated to such a degree that the words express nothing whatever and merely represent a continuous, hollow activity on the part of the musculature of the neck and the organs of speech. On the basis of repeated experiences, it is my opinion that in many psychoanalyses which have gone on for years the treatment has become stuck in this pathological use of language. This clinical experience can, indeed has to be applied to the social sphere. Endless numbers of speeches, publications, political debates do not have the function of getting at the root of important questions of life but of drowning them in verbiage. ~ Wilhelm Reich
Spoken Word quotes by Wilhelm Reich
I've never really considered doing stand up, but I have done readings/spoken word things fairly often in which I'll just tell a bunch of stories and run off at the mouth. I'm a big tangent person. ~ Laurie Notaro
Spoken Word quotes by Laurie Notaro
Human beings do not relate to written words in the same way that they will relate to spoken words. They do not relate to music in the same way that they do to pictures. It's all different parts of our head, different parts of our minds processing this. ~ Neil Gaiman
Spoken Word quotes by Neil Gaiman
Private Parts

The first love of my life never saw me naked - there was always a parent coming home in half an hour - always a little brother in the next room.
Always too much body and not enough time for me to show it.

Instead, I gave him my shoulder, my elbow, the bend of my knee - I lent him my corners, my edges, the parts of me I could afford to offer - the parts I had long since given up trying to hide.
He never asked for more.

He gave me back his eyelashes, the back of his neck, his palms - we held each piece we were given like it was a nectarine that could bruise if we weren't careful.

We collected them like we were trying to build an orchid.

And the spaces that he never saw, the ones my parents half labeled "private parts" when I was still small enough to fit all of myself and my worries inside a bathtub - I made up for that by handing over all the private parts of me.

There was no secret I didn't tell him, there was no moment I didn't share - and we didn't grow up, we grew in, like ivy wrapping, moulding each other into perfect yings and yangs.

We kissed with mouths open, breathing his exhale into my inhale - we could have survived underwater or outer space.

Breathing only of the breathe we traded, we spelled love, g-i-v-e, I never wanted to hide my body from him - if I could have I would have given it all away with the rest of me - I did not know it was possible.
Sarah Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Sarah Kay
It is time to put down the pen; time to clear the throat. Speaking is a different thing altogether from writing. The spoken word has different properties, and different powers. If I have learned anything from writing down my own tale, it is this. ~ Dexter Palmer
Spoken Word quotes by Dexter Palmer
It is not the big events that hurt the most but rather the smallest questionable shift in tone at the end of a spoken word that can plow most deeply into the heart. ~ Steve Martin
Spoken Word quotes by Steve Martin
There are two things that cannot be taken back- the sped arrow and the spoken word. ~ Jane Casey
Spoken Word quotes by Jane Casey
Overall I think the show went well, kudos to Miss Jeanie It was well rounded. From artwork to singing, to spoken word to short films, I think it definitely stimulated the audience's senses. ~ Angie Brown
Spoken Word quotes by Angie Brown
Whatever is expressed is impressed. Whatever you say to yourself, with emotion, generates thoughts, ideas and behaviors consistent with those words. ~ Brian Tracy
Spoken Word quotes by Brian Tracy
Is it possible to make a sharp distinction between the content and the the form, between the personality of the Texas auctioneer and the language that he uses? Are not our attitudes toward people and events in great part shaped by the very language in which we describe them? When we try to describe one person to another or to a group, what do we say? Not usually how or what that person ate, rarely what he wore, only occasionally how he managed his job
no, what we tell is what he said and, if we are good mimics, how he said it. We apparently consider a person's spoken words the true essence of his being. ~ Cleanth Brooks
Spoken Word quotes by Cleanth Brooks
Our view of man will remain superficial so long as we fail to go back to that origin [of silence], so long as we fail to find, beneath the chatter of words, the primordial silence, and as long as we do not describe the action which breaks this silence. the spoken word is a gesture, and its meaning, a world. ~ Maurice Merleau Ponty
Spoken Word quotes by Maurice Merleau Ponty
A prayer is a private conversation, a poem is an incantation ~ Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre
Spoken Word quotes by Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre
I set my face toward the sun again, and I think about my old life - the one I feel as though I've abandoned somehow. It hurts to think of it that way. And even though I know it wasn't perfect, I look back now, and all I see is perfection. Every soft whisper, every spoken word, every gentle touch - it's all perfect. Time won't let me see it otherwise. They're all just perfect memories - perfect, untouchable moments that came and went so softly that they almost feel as if they were always just a dream. ~ Laura Miller
Spoken Word quotes by Laura Miller
[Science] works! Planes fly. Cars drive. Computers compute. If you base medicine on science, you cure people. If you base the design of planes on science, they fly. If you base the design of rockets on science, they reach the moon. It works ... bitches. ~ Richard Dawkins
Spoken Word quotes by Richard Dawkins
Spoken word teaches that if you have the ability to express yourself and the courage to present those stories and opinions, you could be rewarded with a room full of your peers or your community who will listen. ~ Sarah Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Sarah Kay
Being deeply learned and skilled, being well trained and using well spoken words; This is good luck. ~ Gautama Buddha
Spoken Word quotes by Gautama Buddha
My first spoken word poem, packed with all the wisdom of a 14-year-old, was about the injustice of being seen as unfeminine. The poem was very indignant, and mainly exaggerated, but the only spoken word poetry that I had seen up until that point was mainly indignant, so I thought that that's what was expected of me. ~ Sarah Kay
Spoken Word quotes by Sarah Kay
Comedy was something I picked up trying to perfect my art through spoken word. I got on YouTube just to show off my poetry, and then people thought I was funny, so I ran with it. ~ Spoken Reasons
Spoken Word quotes by Spoken Reasons
Like a beautiful flower that is colorful but has no fragrance, even well spoken words bear no fruit in one who does not put them into practice. ~ Gautama Buddha
Spoken Word quotes by Gautama Buddha
Though I remember, sharply, last things. The last book she read. The last play (and film, and concert, and opera, and art exhibition) that we went to together. The last wine she drank, the last clothes she bought. The last weekend away. The last bed we slept in that wasn't ours. The last this, the last that. The last piece of my writing that made her laugh. The last words she wrote herself; the last time she signed her name. The last piece of music I played her when she came home. Her last complete sentence. Her last spoken word. ~ Julian Barnes
Spoken Word quotes by Julian Barnes
If you wouldn't write it and sign it, don't say it. ~ Earl Wilson
Spoken Word quotes by Earl Wilson
The words that matter always stay. ~ David Levithan
Spoken Word quotes by David Levithan
..the description of the ministry as a ministry of the word refers to the content of the message rather than the manner of its presentation. That is to say, the Christian minister is called to minister Christ Himself as the eternal Word incarnate for us men and for our salvation. The focus of attention is not preaching or teaching as such; otherwise a false importance is give to the spoken word of Man. It is the theme and content of preaching and teaching. By means of the ministry Christ Himself is handed over to others to be received and then passed on by them as God's own Word of revelation and redemption. Secondarily, the ministry of the word refers to the ministry of the prophetic and apostolic testimony to Jesus Christ, the true and incarnate Word. That is to say, the Christian minister is called to pass on to others that which is attested concerning Jesus Christ by the forward-looking witness of the Old Testament and the backward-looking witness of the New. ~ G. W. Bromiley
Spoken Word quotes by G. W. Bromiley
I became part of his ocean, an ocean of poetry that swayed and moved anybody near, that plunged up against every chair and table and tugged and tried our souls. His poem left me dry-mouthed and hungry, diminished only slightly from the bitterness of the beer I continually forgot was in my hand. ~ Annie Fisher
Spoken Word quotes by Annie Fisher
The spoken word possesses a mysterious power. In silence, truths can be denied, but once they're paired with words and uttered aloud, they are transformed into tangible, salient entities from which there is no hiding. ~ Mahtob Mahmoody
Spoken Word quotes by Mahtob Mahmoody
The Book of Army Management says: On the field of battle, the spoken word does not carry far enough: hence the institution of gongs and drums. Nor can ordinary objects be seen clearly enough: hence the institution of banners and flags. ~ Sun Tzu
Spoken Word quotes by Sun Tzu
Nothing is often a good thing to do and always a good thing to say. ~ Will Durant
Spoken Word quotes by Will Durant
People around you are quick to read your attitude of thought toward them. Inner thoughts and feelings are communicated in ways other than by the spoken word. ~ Grenville Kleiser
Spoken Word quotes by Grenville Kleiser
Death Makes Angels of us all. ~ Jim Morrison
Spoken Word quotes by Jim Morrison
Books are love letters (or apologies) passed between us, adding a layer of conversation beyond our spoken words. ~ Donalyn Miller
Spoken Word quotes by Donalyn Miller
The unspoken word is capital. We can invest it or we can squander it. ~ Mark Twain
Spoken Word quotes by Mark Twain
Written words differ from spoken words in being material structures. A spoken word is a process in the physical world, having an essential time-order; a written word is a series of pieces of matter, having an essential space-order. ~ Bertrand Russell
Spoken Word quotes by Bertrand Russell
Moreover, the whole purpose of God's mighty acts is to bring man to know Him by faith; and Scripture knows no foundation for faith but the spoken word of God, inviting our trust in Him on the basis of what He has done for us. ~ J.I. Packer
Spoken Word quotes by J.I. Packer
Never has an angry word spoken ever made this world better. ~ Jeffrey Fry
Spoken Word quotes by Jeffrey Fry
If the lost word is lost, if the spent word is spent
If the unheard, unspoken
Word is unspoken, unheard;
Still is the spoken word, the Word unheard,
The Word without a word, the Word within
The world and for the world;
And the light shone in the darkness and
Against the Word the unstilled world still whirled
About the center of the silent Word.
Oh my people, what have I done unto thee.
Where shall the word be found, where shall the word
Resound? Not here, there is not enough silence ~ T. S. Eliot
Spoken Word quotes by T. S. Eliot
There comes a time when you're so in tune with God that your spoken word becomes God's Word, and it has the necessary potency to back it up. #Elijah ~ Ufuoma Apoki
Spoken Word quotes by Ufuoma Apoki
You are capable of doing everything you are afraid of doing, If only you would energize and motivate the Magical thing would absolutely happen to you! ~ Sereda Aleta Dailey
Spoken Word quotes by Sereda Aleta Dailey
Words are substance strange. Speak one and the air ripples into another's ears. Write one and the eye laps it up. But the sense transmutes, and the spoken word winds through the ear's labyrinth into a sense that is no longer the nerve's realm. The written word unfolds behind the eye into the world, world's image, and the imagination sees as the eye cannot see-thoughtfully. ~ Dan Beachy-Quick
Spoken Word quotes by Dan Beachy-Quick
I was really drawn to spoken-word style poetry. I loved the rhythms, and for some reason, I was just drawn to this poetry as a way of expressing my feelings, because I didn't have any other outlet. ~ Matt De La Pena
Spoken Word quotes by Matt De La Pena
The holy scriptures and the spoken word of the living prophets give emphasis to the fundamental principles and doctrines of the gospel. The reason we return to these foundational principles, to the pure doctrines, is because they are the gateway to truths of profound meaning. They are the door to experiences of sublime importance that would otherwise be beyond our capacity to comprehend. These simple, basic principles are the key to living in harmony with God and man. They are the keys to opening the windows of heaven. They lead us to the peace, joy, and understanding that Heavenly Father has promised to His children who hear and obey Him. ~ Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Spoken Word quotes by Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Speech recognition is utterly crap for writing fiction. If you try reading a novel aloud you'll soon figure out why - written prose style is utterly unlike the spoken word. ~ Charles Stross
Spoken Word quotes by Charles Stross
Rap and spoken word have reawakened the country to poetry in itself. Texting and Twitter encourage creative uses of casual language, in ways I have celebrated widely. But we've fallen behind on savoring the formal layer of our language. ~ John McWhorter
Spoken Word quotes by John McWhorter
Voice-cry. Agony
the spoken "word" exploded, blown to bits by suffering and anger, demolishing discourse: this is how she has always been heard before, ever since the time when masculine society began to push her offstage, expulsing her, plundering her. Ever since Medea, ever since Electra. ~ Helene Cixous
Spoken Word quotes by Helene Cixous
No poet will ever take the written word as a substitute for the spoken word; he knows that it is on the spoken word, and the spoken word only, that his art is founded. ~ Lascelles Abercrombie
Spoken Word quotes by Lascelles Abercrombie
The spoken word converts individual knowledge into mutual knowledge, and there is no way back once you've gone over that cliff. Saying nothing was more amendable, and over time I'd come to see that it was usually your best course of action. ~ Karen Joy Fowler
Spoken Word quotes by Karen Joy Fowler
The world of visual perspective is one of unified and homogeneous space. Such a world is alien to the resonating diversity of spoken words. So language was the last art to accept the visual logic of Gutenberg technology, and the first to rebound in the electric age. ~ Marshall McLuhan
Spoken Word quotes by Marshall McLuhan
Easier to recall a loosed falcon than a spoken word. ~ Brian Staveley
Spoken Word quotes by Brian Staveley
Many a spoken word is more piercing than an attack. ~ Ali Ibn Abi Talib
Spoken Word quotes by Ali Ibn Abi Talib
The spoken word community was significant in making me want to write accessible and urgent poems. Bob Holman, in particular, was an impressive figure. ~ Denise Duhamel
Spoken Word quotes by Denise Duhamel
Everything starts with writing. I heard Nikki Giovanni and was blown away. I just thought 'wow'; she was writing from a black girl's perspective, and the imagery was so vivid that I started doing spoken word. ~ Jill Scott
Spoken Word quotes by Jill Scott
Where, then, do we find the truth? We find it in the body, in the woods, in the water, in the soil. We find it in music, dance, and sometimes in poetry. We find it in a baby's face, and in the adult's face behind the mask. We find it in each other's eyes, when we look. We find it in an embrace, which is, when we feel into it, being to being, an incredibly intimate act. We find it in laughter and sobs, and we find it in the voice behind the spoken word. We find it in fairy tales and myths, and the tales we tell, even if fictional. Sometimes embroidering a tale enlarges it as a vehicle for the truth. We find it in silence and stillness. We find it in pain and loss. We find it in birth and death. ~ Charles Eisenstein
Spoken Word quotes by Charles Eisenstein
I have never regretted my silence. As for my speech, I have regretted it over and over again. ~ Umar
Spoken Word quotes by Umar
who did I think we were.
who did I think
I could make you.

this is the oldest mistake,
to confuse wanting
with magic. silence is the undoing
of every spell, and we are experts
in the unsaid. even now, I forget
to put us in past tense. as if
the air in this city were the same.
as if love is anything like its speaking. ~ Marty McConnell Emily Kagan Trenchard
Spoken Word quotes by Marty McConnell Emily Kagan Trenchard
Big Brother has no interest in well-informed citizens capable of critical thinking. Big Brother wants you to shop at Wal-Mart, where He will control the media that influences your life. The media works with the government and with the large corporations to form mass culture, which is utilized to create public consent, and most folks aren't even aware of this process as it goes on all around them. Big Brother is actively seeking the complacency of the wage-slaves. Big Brother doesn't want you to know about the spoken word performances given by Henry Rollins, or Jello Biafra or Terrence McKenna- or a thousand other people- because they will crack your laminate of societal posturing. Big Brother doesn't want you to know about Bill Hicks, because Brother Bill will provide you with the courage and impetus to spit in Big Brother's face. The internet is but one facet of our mass-marketed popular culture, and everyone is plugged into it. If you're reading this, you are a part of it, the internet, one large hive mind, a singular consciousness. And that can be a good thing, but too often, people let themselves slip into it, into this world, to the point where they are no longer able to differentiate between what they think, what they know, and what is thrust upon them. They have no access to their own point of view, or their own spiritual consciousness, for lack of a better way to phrase it. So, to answer your question, in a lengthy and circuitous fashion, I would say that disgust with ~ Larry Mitchell
Spoken Word quotes by Larry Mitchell
Candor compels me to admit that I have no conclusive research to support my view that jingles are less persuasive than the spoken word. You'd run like hell if a salesman came to your door and began singing at you. Why do it in advertising? ~ David Ogilvy
Spoken Word quotes by David Ogilvy
Thought is an Idea in transit, which when once released, never can be lured back, nor the spoken word recalled. Nor ever can the overt act be erased. ~ Pythagoras
Spoken Word quotes by Pythagoras

Words are shackles ~ Debbie Tosun Kilday
Spoken Word quotes by Debbie Tosun Kilday
Man's word is his wand filled with magic and power! Man comes into the world financed by God, with all that he desires or requires already on his pathway. This supply is released through faith and the Spoken Word. If thou canst believe, all things are possible. ~ Florence Scovel Shinn
Spoken Word quotes by Florence Scovel Shinn
The pictures are created by the listener, with a little help from the broadcaster. The pictures are perfect. If you're showing pictures, different things in that picture can distract from the spoken word. ~ Bob Edwards
