Among them was a middle-aged man supported by two broken sticks. His legs were bent permanently beneath him by accident or disease, and it took him five minutes to cross the room, collect his ballot and shuffle into the booth in front of me. It was painful to watch; as he edged forward I became aware that my heart was racing. Finally - finally - the referendum really was under way. What would happen next? Could Eurico and Basilio have more support than I had assumed? How could the violence of the last seven months fail to have an effect? I should have looked away, but I watched, and saw the man on sticks painstakingly mark his cross in the lower of the two boxes, the one rejecting continuing association with Indonesia. Then he folded the paper, turned his legs around, and began walking slowly towards the ballot box. ~ Richard Lloyd Parry
Indonesian History quotes by Richard Lloyd Parry
Science?is so greatly opposed to history and tradition that it cannot be absorbed by our civilization. ~ Max Born
Indonesian History quotes by Max Born
The 1950s to me is darkness, hidden history, perversion behind most doors waiting to creep out. The 1950s to most people is kitsch and Mickey Mouse watches and all this intolerable stuff ... ~ James Ellroy
Indonesian History quotes by James Ellroy
The late John Stott wrote, "Paul is not saying he did a careful study of every sinner in human history and found out he came in last place. The truth is, rather, when we are convicted by the Holy Spirit, an immediate result is we give up all such comparisons." Paul was so vividly aware of his own sins that he could not conceive that anybody could be worse. ~ John Ortberg
Indonesian History quotes by John Ortberg
As far as I could tell, my history teacher had three passions in life: quoting Shakespeare, identifying historical inaccuracies in cable TV shows, and berating Ryan Washburn. "Eighteen sixty-three, Mr. Washburn. Is that so hard to remember? Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in eighteen sixty-three." Ryan was a big guy: a little on the quiet side, a little shy. I had no idea what it was about him that had convinced Mr. Simpson he needed to be taken down a notch - or seven. But more and more, this was how history class went: Simpson called on Ryan, repeatedly, until he made a mistake. And then it began. ~ Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Indonesian History quotes by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Whenever in history, equality appeared on the agenda, it was exported somewhere else, like an undesirable. ~ Mary McCarthy
Indonesian History quotes by Mary McCarthy
There is one thing only which a Muslim can profitably learn from the west, the exact sciences in their pure and applied form. Only natural sciences and mathematics should be taught in Muslim schools, while tuition of European philosophy, literature and history should lose the position of primacy which today it holds on the curriculum. ~ Muhammad Asad
Indonesian History quotes by Muhammad Asad
You have a unique body and mind, with a particular history and conditioning. No one can offer you a formula for navigating all situations and all states of mind. Only by listening inwardly in a fresh and open way will you discern at any given time what most serves your healing and freedom. ~ Tara Brach
Indonesian History quotes by Tara Brach
It means the liberation of one half of humankind, which would make its voice heard, challenging, for the first time in history, not only bourgeois society but every society in which man is the protagonist, thus going far beyond the struggle against that economic exploitation denounced by Marxism. ~ Carla Lonzi
Indonesian History quotes by Carla Lonzi
The revolutionary breakthrough will come with rockets that are fully and rapidly reusable. We will never conquer Mars unless we do that. It'll be too expensive. The American colonies would never have been pioneered if the ships that crossed the ocean hadn't been reusable. ~ Elon Musk
Indonesian History quotes by Elon Musk
To me, British fashion has a story. It has history, and I feel it's very much about our culture. ~ Rita Ora
Indonesian History quotes by Rita Ora
Now that their long war was over, they could get on with the proper concern of all civilised nations, which is to prepare for the next one. ~ Terry Pratchett
Indonesian History quotes by Terry Pratchett
I think that you appreciate that there are extraordinary men and women and extraordinary moments when history leaps forward on the backs of these individuals, that what can be imagined can be achieved, that you must dare to dream, but that there's no substitute for perseverance and hard work and teamwork because no one gets there alone; and that, while we commemorate the ... the greatness of these events and the individuals who achieve them, we cannot forget the sacrifice of those who make these achievements and leaps possible. ~ Chris Carter
Indonesian History quotes by Chris Carter
I wish I did not know parts of the past; I wish they had never happened. But the past is the past, and someone must remember, and speak of it. ~ Robert Jackson Bennett
Indonesian History quotes by Robert Jackson Bennett
One can shape history as much through the facts one omits as through the facts one includes. ~ David Frum
Indonesian History quotes by David Frum
To save our democracy, Americans need to restore the basic norms that once protected it. But we must do more than that. We must extend those norms through the whole of a diverse society. We must make them truly inclusive. America's democratic norms, at their core, have always been sound. But for much of our history, they were accompanied - indeed, sustained - by racial exclusion. Now those norms must be made to work in an age of racial equality and unprecedented ethnic diversity. Few societies in history have managed to be both multiracial and genuinely democratic. That is our challenge. It is also our opportunity. If we meet it, America will truly be exceptional. ~ Steven Levitsky
Indonesian History quotes by Steven Levitsky
There's much more to black history than pain and hard times, and romance authors, more than anyone else, know it. A writer friend told me that's what he thinks some people outside of the culture don't get about blackness: the sheer joy of it, especially given so many are only fixated on the struggle. Black romance thrives on complexity and nuance, on black solidarity and achievement, on the triumph of everyday life lived well, in spite of the odds.
-Black Romance Novels Matter Too. Shondaland 2/22/20 ~ Carole V. Bell
Indonesian History quotes by Carole V. Bell
By and large, the Healing Dream is not the defender of our waking goals-material achievement, perfect romance, a modest niche in history-but an advocate-general for the soul, whose aims may be diametrically different ... The nourishment of the dreamworld is a reciprocal affair: as we provide for it, it provides for us. ~ Marc Ian Barasch
Indonesian History quotes by Marc Ian Barasch
Decay is as inevitable as death, as nothing lives in this temporary world for eternity ~ Usama Hussain
Indonesian History quotes by Usama Hussain
We never learn anything, never in the world, and in spite of all the history books written. They're just the way we plead or ague with ourselves about it, but it's only light from the outside that we're supposed to take inside. If we can. There's a regular warehouse of fine suggestions and if we're not better it isn't because there aren't plenty of marvelous and true ideas to draw on, but because our vanity weighs more than all of them put together. ~ Saul Bellow
Indonesian History quotes by Saul Bellow
There's no excuse for a dull book, a dull museum, or a dull speech. Especially when dealing with history - the most fascinating subject I know. ~ Richard Norton Smith
Indonesian History quotes by Richard Norton Smith
She reminded me of a picture in a history book of the executioner who killed on of the kings. ~ Ian Cross
Indonesian History quotes by Ian Cross
The Bible is a collection of stories and myths based on hearsay transmitted from generation to generation and which were recorded by many (40 +) different authors during a period spanning possibly 1,600 or more years. The 'evidence' then is only to be found in the Bible – no historical, scientific or authenticated archaeological evidence exists. If you check the internet for such evidence you will discover many websites by Christian ministries – all present the evidence only from the Bible. Most so-called archaeological evidence is based on supposition rather than fact. ~ Brian Baker
Indonesian History quotes by Brian Baker
China's official State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television issued a warning and denunciation of time travel in 2011, concerned that such stories interfere with history - "casually ~ James Gleick
Indonesian History quotes by James Gleick
I came into my teens unaware that most Americans, blacks as well as whites, were ignorant of the main facts of Negro history. And so it was the facts of other histories that I found most intriguing. I fell into a U.S. history major by chance late in my second year at Fisk University. ~ David Levering Lewis
Indonesian History quotes by David Levering Lewis
Libertarians have always battled the age-old scourge of war. They understood that war brought death and destruction on a grand scale, disrupted family and economic life, and put more power in the hands of the ruling class - which might explain why the rulers did not always share the popular sentiment for peace. Free men and women, of course, have often had to defend their own societies against foreign threats; but throughout history, war has usually been the common enemy of peaceful, productive people on all sides of the conflict. ~ David Boaz
Indonesian History quotes by David Boaz
History has repeatedly shown that when a new method or material becomes available, new uses for it arise. ~ Wilson Greatbatch
Indonesian History quotes by Wilson Greatbatch
The deepest, the only theme of human history, compared to which all others are of subordinate importance, is the conflict of scepticism with faith. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Indonesian History quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Oh, we solved that long ago!" Rubedo chuckled. "I believe that was Greengallows, Henrik Greengallows? Is that right, my love? Ancient history has never been my subject. A famous case study even reported a method for turning straw into gold! The young lady who discovered it wrote a really rather thin paper - but she toured the lecture circuit for years! Her firstborn refined it, so that she could make straw from gold and solve the terrible problem of housing for destitute brownies."

"Hedwig Greengallows, my dear," mused Citrinitas. "Henrik was just her mercurer. Men are so awfully fond of attributing women's work to their brothers! ~ Catherynne M. Valente
Indonesian History quotes by Catherynne M. Valente
History is the most aristocratic of all literary pursuits, because it obliges the historian to be rich as well as educated. ~ Henry Adams
Indonesian History quotes by Henry Adams
Increased immigration and diversity are not only inevitable, but over the long run they are also desirable. Ethnic diversity is, on balance, an important social asset, as the history of my own country demonstrates. ~ Len Fisher
Indonesian History quotes by Len Fisher
USA drone attacks are a crime against humanity, We Need Humanity , More than Cleverness, We need kindness, We need all of Human qualities more than USA definition.. U.S.A Drone Program Needs to Be Accompanied by Hard Facts on Civilian Deaths.USA Added Black Pages To History Of Humanity. It should be noted as dangerous for Human Kind, human rights ,rights of life liberty and pursuit of happiness . ~ Suraj
Indonesian History quotes by Suraj
Keeley, Burke tells me your new trainer is a natural with the horses, with Travis and with cards as well."
"And I hear he's gorgeous,too," Mo added.
"Where'd you hear that?" Keeley demanded before she could bite her tongue into two.
"Oh,the word gets around in our snug little world," Mo said grandly. "And Shelley Mason-one of your kids? Her sister Lorna's in my Worl History class, a huge, bore by the way. The class, that is, not Lorna, who's only a small bore.Anyway, she picked Shelley up last week from your place and got a load of the Irish hunk, so I heard all about it. Which is why I'm planning on coming over as soon as I can and getting a load of him myself."
"Trevor, give your sister your pork chop so the can stuff it in her mouth."
"Dad." Giggling, Mo snatched another fry. "I'm just going to look. So, Keeley, is he gorgeous? I respect your opinion more than Lorna Mason's."
"He's too old for you," Keeley said, a bit more sharply than she intended and had Mo rolling her eyes.
"Jeez.I don't want to marry him and have his children."
Travis's laugh prevented Keeley from snapping back with something foolish. "Good thing. Now that I've found someone who comes close to replacing Paddy,I don't intend to lose him to Three Acres."
"okay." Mo licked salt from her fingertip. "I'll just ogle him. ~ Nora Roberts
Indonesian History quotes by Nora Roberts
Most people experience history as one damn fact after another in high school. But if you can wonder, "Wow, what if the US hadn't gotten involved in World War II?", you can become enthralled by the imaginary possibilities. ~ Gavriel David Rosenfeld
Indonesian History quotes by Gavriel David Rosenfeld
Most of the words we use in history and everyday speech are like mental depth charges. As they descend [through our consciousness] and detonate, their resonant power is unleashed, showering our understanding with fragments of accumulated meaning and association. ~ James Axtell
Indonesian History quotes by James Axtell
Herodotus is not more indisputably the father of history than is Sir Boyle Roche the father of Bulls. No doubt there were makers of bulls before his day, even as brave men lived before Agamemnon; but they are not remembered, and if their bulls have survived them they are credited to Sir Boyle by a posterity generously forgiving and forgetful of his famous indictment. ~ Boyle Roche
Indonesian History quotes by Boyle Roche
Out in the country it was not uncommon to discover that she had slipped away, alone, out to the lake, maybe, or down to the cellar, where once I found her sitting in the big marooned sleigh, reading, her fur coat thrown over her knees. Things would have been terrible strange and unbalanced without her. She was the Queen who finished out the suit of dark Jacks, dark King, and Joker. ~ Donna Tartt
Indonesian History quotes by Donna Tartt
How simplified human history becomes, when we view it in terms of consciousness development. The real movers and shakers of our species have all been on the same journey - the journey of consciousness development. ~ Jakeb Brock
Indonesian History quotes by Jakeb Brock
The first arrival of earthly life on another celestial body ranks as an epochal event not only for our generation, but in the history of our planet. Neil Armstrong was at the cusp of the Apollo programme. This was a collective technological effort of epic scale, but his is the one name sure to be remembered centuries hence. ~ Martin Rees
Indonesian History quotes by Martin Rees
Colour-blindness is a childish, stunted analysis of racism. It starts and ends at 'discriminating against a person because of the colour of their skin is bad', without any accounting for the ways in which structural power manifests in these exchanges. With an analysis so immature, this definition of racism is often used to silence people of colour attempting to articulate the racism we face. When people of colour point this out, they're accused of being racist against white people, and the accountability avoidance continues. Colour-blindness does not accept the legitimacy of structural racism or a history of white racial dominance. ~ Reni Eddo-Lodge
Indonesian History quotes by Reni Eddo-Lodge
You see the Earth as a bright blue and white Christmas tree ornament in the black sky. It's so small and so fragile - you realize that on that small spot is everything that means everything to you; all of history and art and death and birth and love. ~ Rusty Schweickart
Indonesian History quotes by Rusty Schweickart
José Martí, born on January 28, 1853, is known as the George Washington of Cuba, or is perhaps better identified with Simon Bolivar, the liberator of South America. Although he admired and visited the United States, José Martí realized that not only would he have to free his country from Spain, he would also have to prevent the United States from interfering in Cuba's internal affairs. By his admirers, he was considered a great Latin American intellectual, and his newspaper Patria became the voice of "Cuban Independence." After years of suppression, the Cuban struggle for independence began in 1868. At the age of 17, José Martí was jailed in Cuba and then exiled to Spain because of his revolutionary activities. It was during this time in his life that he published a pamphlet describing the atrocities he had experienced while being imprisoned in Cuba. He strongly believed in racial equality and denounced the horrors of people having to live under a dictatorship.
In 1878, Martí was allowed to return to Cuba under a general amnesty, but was once again banished from Cuba after being accused of conspiracy against the Spanish authorities. From 1881 to 1895, he lived and worked in New York City. Moving to Florida, he organized forces for a three-pronged attack supporting the smoldering Cuban War of Independence. It was during one of the first battles that he was killed at the Battle of Dos Ríos in Cuba, and thus became a national hero and martyr when he was only 42 years old. ~ Hank Bracker
Indonesian History quotes by Hank Bracker
I've left Boro in the Premiership, which was always what I wanted to do. Actually that's not quite true. I took them to three cup finals, where they'd never been before. But I had set my eyes on being the first manager in their history to deliver a major trophy. ~ Bryan Robson
Indonesian History quotes by Bryan Robson
When every fact, every present or past phenomenon of that universe, every phase of present or past life therein, has been examined, classified, and co-ordinated with the rest, then the mission of science will be completed. What is this but saying that the task of science can never end till man ceases to be, till history is no longer made, and development itself ceases? ~ Karl Pearson
Indonesian History quotes by Karl Pearson
Every English village seems to have a particular day when some local tradition is celebrated - and the celebratory food is often pie. ~ Janet Clarkson
Indonesian History quotes by Janet Clarkson
I want each and every West Virginian to have bragging rights. I want to stop playing defense and start playing offense. So, together, let us grab the reins of history. ~ Joe Manchin
Indonesian History quotes by Joe Manchin
The last thing you want to do is go down in the history of All-Star game competition as the only injury (his nose was broken by Roberto Hernandez) sustained during the team picture. ~ Cal Ripken, Jr.
Indonesian History quotes by Cal Ripken, Jr.
I think if you come from a history of persecution you have to develop a sense of humour. ~ Sacha Baron Cohen
