The Internet amplifies power in all respects. It can grossly exaggerate the power of the individual. ~ John Perry Barlow
Individual Power quotes by John Perry Barlow
The more one considers the matter, the clearer it becomes that redistribution is in effect far less a redistribution of free income from the richer to the poorer, as we imagined, than a redistribution of power from the individual to the State. ~ Bertrand De Jouvenel
Individual Power quotes by Bertrand De Jouvenel
This, not incidentally, is another perfect setting for deindividuation: on one side, the functionary behind a wall of security glass following a script laid out with the intention that it should be applied no matter what the specific human story may be, told to remain emotionally disinvested as far as possible so as to avoid preferential treatment of one person over another - and needing to follow that advice to avoid being swamped by empathy for fellow human beings in distress. The functionary becomes a mixture of Zimbardo's prison guards and the experimenter himself, under siege from without while at the same time following an inflexible rubric set down by those higher up the hierarchical chain, people whose job description makes them responsible, but who in turn see themselves as serving the general public as a non-specific entity and believe or have been told that only strict adherence to a system can produce impartial fairness. Fairness is supposed to be vested in the code: no human can or should make the system fairer by exercising judgement. In other words, the whole thing creates a collective responsibility culminating in a blameless loop. Everyone assumes that it's not their place to take direct personal responsibility for what happens; that level of vested individual power is part of the previous almost feudal version of responsibility. The deindividuation is actually to a certain extent the desired outcome, though its negative consequences are not. ~ Nick Harkaway
Individual Power quotes by Nick Harkaway
Individual liberty is individual power. ~ John Quincy Adams
Individual Power quotes by John Quincy Adams
Trauma really does confront you with the best and the worst. You see the horrendous things that people do to each other, but you also see resiliency, the power of love, the power of caring, the power of commitment, the power of commitment to oneself, the knowledge that there are things that are larger than our individual survival. And in some ways, I don't think you can appreciate the glory of life unless you also know the dark side of life ~ Bessel Van Der Kolk
Individual Power quotes by Bessel Van Der Kolk
Each word's evocative value or virtue, its individual power of touching springs in the mind and of initiating visions, becomes a treasure to revel in. Besides this hold on affection a word may well have about it the glamorous prestige of high adventures in great company. Think of that the plain word "dust" calls to mind. "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was." "Dust hath closed Helen's eye." "All follow this and come to dust." "The way to dusty death." So, to the lover of words, each word may be not a precious stone only, but one that has shone on Solomon's temple or in Cleopatra's hair. ~ C.E. Montague
Individual Power quotes by C.E. Montague
The freedom and human capacities of individuals must be developed to their maximum but individual powers must be linked to democracy in the sense that social betterment must be the necessary consequence of individual flourishing. ~ Henry Giroux
Individual Power quotes by Henry Giroux
The beautiful wooden board on a stand in my father's study. The gleaming ivory pieces. The stern king. The haughty queen. The noble knight. The pious bishop. And the game itself, the way each piece contributed its individual power to the whole. It was simple. It was complex. It was savage; it was elegant. It was a dance; it was a war. It was finite and eternal. It was life. ~ Rick Yancey
Individual Power quotes by Rick Yancey
We want to help you regain clarity about your individual power. Everyone has it. No one can ever take it away from you. No one can ever do anything "bad" to you. No one can assert into your experience. Everything, without exception, comes only by your individual invitation to it. Do you understand the process of asking? When you give something your attention and it becomes your dominant vibration relative to the subject-that is your asking. So, deliberate creating is not so much about looking out into the world and saying, "Oh, there are things that are good that I want to create or attract into my experience, and there are things that are bad that I don't want to create or attract into your my experience." Deliberate creating is more about deliberate allowing. Deliberate allowing is more like deliberate vibration. ~ Abraham Hicks
Individual Power quotes by Abraham Hicks
As a jazz musician, you have individual power to create the sound. You also have a responsibility to function in the context of other people who have that power also. ~ Wynton Marsalis
Individual Power quotes by Wynton Marsalis
While some animals exhibit individual powers in higher perfection, man stands for their superior, not only in combining in his own body all the senses and faculties which they possess, but in being endowed with moral and intellectual powers which are denied to them, and which at once place him at the head of the living creation, and constitute him a moral, religious, intelligent, and responsible being. ~ George Combe
Individual Power quotes by George Combe
It is important to note that the acquisition of wealth, as the accepted standard of succes, does not refer to increasing material goods for sustenance purposes, or even for the purpose of increasing enjoyment. It refers rather to wealth as a sign of individual power, a proof of achievement and self-worth.
Modern economic individualism, though based on belief in the free individual, has resulted in the phenomenon that increasingly large numbers of people have to work on the property (capital) of a few powerful owners. It is not surprising that such a situation should lead to widespread insecurity, for not only is the individual faced with a criterion of succes over which he has only partial control but also his opportunities for a job are in considerable measure out of his control. ~ Rollo May
Individual Power quotes by Rollo May
Natural rights are those which appertain to man in right of his existence. Of this kind are all the intellectual rights, or rights of the mind, and also all those rights of acting as an individual for his own comfort and happiness, which are not injurious to the natural rights of others. Civil rights are those which appertain to man in right of his being a member of society. Every civil right has for its foundation some natural right pre-existing in the individual, but to the enjoyment of which his individual power is not, in all cases, sufficiently competent. Of this kind are all those which relate to security and protection. ~ Thomas Paine
Individual Power quotes by Thomas Paine
It is true that those of us who have political experience could wrestle for power just as any other politician. But we have no time; we have more important things to do. And there is no doubt that the knowledge we hold to be sacred would be lost in the process. To acquire power, millions of people have to be fed illusions. This too is true: Lenin won over millions of Russian peasants, without whom the Russian Revolution would have been impossible, with a slogan which was at variance with the basic collective tendencies of the Russian party. The slogan was: "Take the land of the large land-owners. It is to be your individual property." And the peasants followed. They would not have offered their allegiance if they had been told in 1917 that this land would one day be collectivized. The truth of this is attested to by the bitter fight for the collectivization of Russian agriculture around 1930. In social life there are degrees of power and degrees of falsity. The more the masses of people adhere to truth, the less power-mongering there will be; the more imbued with irrational illusions the masses of people are, the more widespread and brutal individual power-mongering will be. ~ Wilhelm Reich
Individual Power quotes by Wilhelm Reich
Principle III:;: Presumptive rights are the conditions under which individual powers normally develop. ~ William Ernest Hocking
Individual Power quotes by William Ernest Hocking
My biggest kick comes from the individual fans I run into. Middle-aged men ask me when we're going to do more Johnny Quest cartoons. ~ Joseph Barbera
Individual Power quotes by Joseph Barbera
If the juices of the body were more chymically examined, especially by a naturalist, that knows the ways of making fixed bodies volatile, and volatile fixed, and knows the power of the open air in promoting the former of those operations; it is not improbable, that both many things relating to the nature of the humours, and to the ways of sweetening, actuating, and otherwise altering them, may be detected, and the importance of such discoveries may be discerned. ~ Robert Boyle
Individual Power quotes by Robert Boyle
The Gospel comes in power and the Holy Spirit, with much assurance. If you call upon the name of the Lord, God will transform you on the inside, give you the shock of your life, and give you everlasting life on top of that. ~ Ray Comfort
Individual Power quotes by Ray Comfort
Nuclear power and fossil fuels are the choices of the past. Renewable energy is the choice of the future that is here today. ~ Hermann Scheer
Individual Power quotes by Hermann Scheer
Quit using your creative power to formulate questions. You can just as easily - more easily - use it to formulate answers. ~ Alan Cohen
Individual Power quotes by Alan Cohen
For the task of the psychotherapist is to bring about a reconciliation between individual feeling and social norms without, however, sacrificing the integrity of the individual. ~ Alan W. Watts
Individual Power quotes by Alan W. Watts
Congregating power to leave u..... To control this love

Individual Power quotes by Moaz Zulfiqar
Today we thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon this great Country and ask Him to continue to heal our land and meet our needs - and we do so through the power of prayer. ~ Nick Rahall
Individual Power quotes by Nick Rahall
I am not to be underestimated. Overestimated, maybe, but underestimated? No. ~ Saumya Sharman
Individual Power quotes by Saumya Sharman
The less people that are on the stage, there's more drama. You start living the music with each individual. When you see a band with ten people on stage, just a huge ensemble, you don't know who's doing what. ~ Greg Lake
Individual Power quotes by Greg Lake
Did is a word of achievement,
Won't is a word of retreat,
Might is a word of bereavement,
Can't is a word of defeat,
Ought is a word of duty,
Try is a word each hour,
Will is a word of beauty,
Can is a word of power. ~ Ann Landers
Individual Power quotes by Ann Landers
Maximize the power of the beliefs that strengthen you and neutralize those that weaken you. ~ Plato
Individual Power quotes by Plato
Still our old question of the comparative advantage of justice and injustice has not been answered: Which is the more profitable, to be just and act justly and practise virtue, whether seen or unseen of gods and men, or to be unjust and act unjustly, if only unpunished and unreformed? In my judgment, Socrates, the question has now become ridiculous. We know that, when the bodily constitution is gone, life is no longer endurable, though pampered with all kinds of meats and drinks, and having all wealth and all power; and shall we be told that when the very essence of the vital principle is undermined and corrupted, life is still worth having to a man, if only he be allowed to do whatever he likes with the single exception that he is not to acquire justice and virtue, or to escape from injustice and vice; assuming them both to be such as we have described? ~ Plato
Individual Power quotes by Plato
Everyone has a unique problem of their own, an issue that follows them throughout life and never goes away. You discover it early and go on to struggle with it for the rest of your life, almost until it eventually becomes an old enemy that you lose the will to fight or hate anymore. And just as every person has their own void, their own haunt or their own unanswered question ... they also have the power to turn it into a legacy every bit as profound as they make it. ~ Ashly Lorenzana
Individual Power quotes by Ashly Lorenzana
Decide what you want and go for it, Fred, it's just a matter of will power!" I remember you saying that to me more than once.'

I did not recall saying this nor did it sound like anything which anyone would say more than once, assuming he had ever had the misfortune to say it at all, but I was glad that Freddie had such rosy memories. ~ Iris Murdoch
Individual Power quotes by Iris Murdoch
When I forget the power of the word, I read Frederick Buechner. When I forget the deep relief of telling the truth, I read Frederick Buechner. When I forget to look for the holiness all around me, I read Frederick Buechner. When I forget why the gospel matters, I read Frederick Buechner. ~ Barbara Brown Taylor
Individual Power quotes by Barbara Brown Taylor
I have healed the sick by the power of the God. I have spoken with the gift of tongues. ~ Clayton Christensen
Individual Power quotes by Clayton Christensen
Borges said there are only four stories to tell: a love story between two people, a love story between three people, the struggle for power and the voyage. All of us writers rewrite these same stories ad infinitum. ~ Paulo Coelho
Individual Power quotes by Paulo Coelho
You have a soft spot. Contrary to popular belief, it is not where you are weak, it is the gateway to indestructible power. ~ Susan Piver
Individual Power quotes by Susan Piver
The great end of art is to strike the imagination with the power of a soul that refuses to admit defeat even in the midst of a collapsing world. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Individual Power quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
Sport has the power to inspire and unite people. In Africa, soccer enjoys great popularity and has a particular place in the hearts of people. ~ Nelson Mandela
Individual Power quotes by Nelson Mandela
We dedicated ourselves to a powerful idea - organic law rather than naked power. There seems to be universal acceptance of that idea in the nation. ~ Potter Stewart
Individual Power quotes by Potter Stewart
Wordsmiths who serve established power ... castrate the public imagination by subjecting language to a complexity which renders it private. Elitism is always their aim. ~ John Ralston Saul
Individual Power quotes by John Ralston Saul
Your power of thought is the only thing that you have complete, unchallengeable control over. You do this through the power of will." Napoleon Hill, Author ~ Colin Gilmartin
Individual Power quotes by Colin Gilmartin
It always demands a far greater degree of courage for an individual to oppose an organized movement than to let himself be carried along with the stream - individual courage, that is, a variety of courage that is dying out in these times of progressive organization and mechanization. ~ Stefan Zweig
Individual Power quotes by Stefan Zweig
Don't act as if you have hundreds of years to live. Live, while it is in your power and live it great. ~ Timothy Pina
Individual Power quotes by Timothy Pina
A net of words, he said at last, is more powerful than a net of rope. ~ Patricia A. McKillip
Individual Power quotes by Patricia A. McKillip
In the enclave, the strong and the physically perfect survived, but if you were strong, you protected the weak until they had an opportunity to grow into their own power. ~ Ann Aguirre
Individual Power quotes by Ann Aguirre
Scientific societies are as yet in their infancy. It is to be expected that advances in physiology and psychology will give governments much more control over individual mentality than they now have even in totalitarian countries. Fitche laid it down that education should aim at destroying free will, so that, after pupils have left school, they shall be incapable, throughout the rest of their lives, of thinking or acting otherwise than as their schoolmasters would have wished. ~ Bertrand Russell
Individual Power quotes by Bertrand Russell
I have witnessed first-hand how the power of sport can positively impact the lives of wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women in their journey of recovery. The Invictus Games will focus on what they can achieve post injury and celebrate their fighting spirit, through an inclusive sporting competition that recognises the sacrifice they have made. I am extremely proud that we are bringing an event like this to the UK for the first time and believe it can have a long lasting impact on the well-being of those who have served their nations so bravely. ~ Prince Harry
Individual Power quotes by Prince Harry
I remember a time when all I wanted was a gun and to learn how to use it. I thought a gun would make me feel safe. I thought a gun would make me feel powerful. But right now I just feel . . . heavy. Like I live in this world of death and destruction and I'll never escape alive. ~ Paula Stokes
Individual Power quotes by Paula Stokes
And the bowling average? The obsession with statistics, the purity and power of the numbers worked to the seventh decimal place, as if some truth were hidden in the golden mean. He could feel his young self grasping for solidity in those numbers, keys to himself - I am this concrete, numerical thing. I am 134.7538658. ~ David Duchovny
Individual Power quotes by David Duchovny
Love in your mind is peace.
Love in your heart is joy.
Love in your soul is God.
Love in your life is power. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Individual Power quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
A sign of gratitude is a thankful smile. ~ Debasish Mridha
Individual Power quotes by Debasish Mridha
This is a faithless old world. Men and women are hardheaded, pleasure-mad, money crazy. They write up their successes and say, "The power and might of my hand have done these things." God has been ruled out; consequently, the thrill and romance of true living are gone for most people. ~ Lee Roberson
Individual Power quotes by Lee Roberson
Let's not dismiss or attack individual ideas as being inadequate before we have had a chance to assess their positive effect as part of a whole solution. ~ John Thune
Individual Power quotes by John Thune
Cosmopolitanism promotes a sense of new _we-ness as regarding every individual human being as a citizen of the cosmos. However, the _we-cosmic-citizens_ are not to promote the _we-ness-in-sameness_, but rather the we-ness-in-alterity_.Unlike the solidarity-in-sameness, cosmopolitan _solidarity-in-alterity_ celebrates the singularity and difference of each individual human being while not denying the historical necessity of the strategic construction of _we_ to challenge the very sociopolitically imposed category ~ Namsoon Kang
Individual Power quotes by Namsoon Kang
It is a dogma of the Roman Church that the existence of God can be proved by natural reason. Now this dogma would make it impossible for me to be a Roman Catholic. If I thought of God as another being like myself, outside myself, only infinitely more powerful, then I would regard it as my duty to defy him. ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
Individual Power quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein
We are all prone to think first of ourselves and when we find an individual interested in us we are interested in him, but if he is interested in himself first, seldom do we find him interesting. Then, how it must come home to us, "know ye not that I must be about my Fathers business?" if we would have Him interested in us. ~ Edgar Cayce
Individual Power quotes by Edgar Cayce
The world peace stays a dream and is impossible that until the veto power holders become unable to practice veto-dragon since that causes injustice, wars, and destruction. ~ Ehsan Sehgal
Individual Power quotes by Ehsan Sehgal
Success doesn't come from summoning help from the Force, but from taking control of it and generating the power from within yourself. ~ James Luceno
Individual Power quotes by James Luceno
The Days were a clan that mighta lived long
But Ben Day's head got screwed on wrong
That boy craved dark Satan's power
So he killed his family in one nasty hour
Little Michelle he strangled in the night
Then chopped up Debby: a bloody sight
Mother Patty he saved for last
Blew off her head with a shotgun blast
Baby Libby somehow survived
But to live through that ain't much a life
- SCHOOLYARD RHYME, CIRCA 1985 ~ Gillian Flynn
Individual Power quotes by Gillian Flynn
When you have to do as much as women do, the Internet allows you to - from home - figure out a way to extend your reach and power in the world. It allows you to do what job you've done traditionally, and create aspirations by carrying on a job and using the Internet to amplify everything you're doing. ~ Indra Nooyi
Individual Power quotes by Indra Nooyi
The fact that a cloud from a minor volcanic eruption in Iceland - a small disturbance in the complex mechanism of life on the Earth - can bring to a standstill the aerial traffic over an entire continent is a reminder of how, with all its power to transform nature, humankind remains just another species on the planet Earth. ~ Slavoj Zizek
