Busy old fool, unruly Sun, why dost thou thus through windows and through curtains call on us? Must to thy motions lovers seasons run? ~ John Donne
Curtain Call quotes by John Donne
CURTAIN CALL
The world is our stage and the final act can highlight or ruin a beautiful play ~ Kamil Ali
Curtain Call quotes by Kamil Ali
Love, all alike, no season knows, nor clime, nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time. ~ John Donne
Curtain Call quotes by John Donne
I always stayed for the first curtain call and people always said, 'Who's that?' But this got me started in acting. ~ James Stewart
Curtain Call quotes by James Stewart
Reaction time

Touch the underside of a penny you find
on the street
Doesn't feel any different unless you close your eyes
I can taste the copper in my mouth now
seeping from between my teeth
There's an explanation I'm sure
all this blood
it's from all the times I held the glass too close
And forgot to tip the dancer
A storm just passed
and like every other one that came before it
I was left unharmed
The dogs are all barking and the cats
hiding in the basement
And the sky is colored that bright yellow glow
makes it feel like you're wearing sunglasses
that you can't take off
Wherever you are now
it's not here
because I missed it
I missed the show
I missed the curtain call
And forever more
I am cursed
like a blanket without a body to keep warm ~ Dave Matthes
Curtain Call quotes by Dave Matthes
This was our last night. We only had one curtain call, Bree. And I thought they were going to give us a standing ovation, but no-o-o-. Do you know why half the audience stood up?"
"To get a head start on the traffic," Bree said.
"To get a head start on the traffic," Antonia agreed in indignation. "I mean, here we are, dancing and singing our little guts out, and all those folks want to do is get to bed early. I ask you, whatever happened to common courtesy? Whatever happened to decent manners? Doesn't anyone care about craft anymore? And on top of that, it's not even nice. ~ Mary Stanton
Curtain Call quotes by Mary Stanton
My proudest moment of my career was opening night in Cambridge and watching the cast take their curtain call. No one was looking at me, and I was floating off the ground. It was just euphoric. ~ Sara Bareilles
Curtain Call quotes by Sara Bareilles
I remember when I was doing 'The Crucible' on Broadway with Laura Linney, and Arthur Miller had been in rehearsal with us and was on stage on opening night. She turned to me during the curtain call and said, 'Let's make sure we remember this.' ~ John Benjamin Hickey
Curtain Call quotes by John Benjamin Hickey
The mourning of a loved one never ends with a funeral. It comes back every so often, like a stage performer eager for a curtain call and expects you to be loud about it.

...I gave it all the lung capacity I had. ~ Kevin Hearne
Curtain Call quotes by Kevin Hearne
So many people are so good at so many things. Right now I'm lucky we're supposed to smile during the curtain call, because I'm so happy this is the thing I'm good at. ~ Amy Spalding
Curtain Call quotes by Amy Spalding
Try and stay sober. Until the curtain call. And for God's sake, have fun. Don't suffer for your art. Just have fun. ~ Christopher Plummer
Curtain Call quotes by Christopher Plummer
To believe that God created a plurality of worlds, at least as numerous as what we call stars, renders the Christian faith at once little and ridiculous; and scatters it in the mind like feathers in the air. ~ Thomas Paine
Curtain Call quotes by Thomas Paine
The library has a robust collection of what I call non-cuddly hate lit. This is one of my favorite things about working here: If you believe censorship is poison, here lies paradise. ~ Josh Hanagarne
Curtain Call quotes by Josh Hanagarne
What great leaders have in common is that each truly knows his or her strengths - and can call on the right strength at the right time. ~ Tom Rath
Curtain Call quotes by Tom Rath
From a philosophical point of view, Leibniz's most interesting argument was that absolute space conflicted with what he called the principle of the identity of indiscernibles (PII). PII says that if two objects are indiscernible, then they are identical, i.e. they are really one and the same object. What does it mean to call two objects indiscernible? It means that no difference at all can be found between them--they have exactly the same attributes. So if PII is true, then any two genuinely distinct objects must differ in at least one of their attributes--otherwise they would be one, not two. PII is intuitively quite compelling. It certainly is not easy to find an example of two distinct objects that share all their attributes. Even two mass-produced factory goods will normally differ in innumerable ways, even if the differences cannot be detected with the naked eye.

Leibniz asks us to imagine two different universes, both containing exactly the same objects. In Universe One, each object occupies a particular location in absolute space. In Universe Two, each object has been shifted to a different location in absolute space, two miles to the east (for example). There would be no way of telling these two universes apart. For we cannot observe the position of an object in absolute space, as Newton himself admitted. All we can observe are the positions of objects relative to each other, and these would remain unchanged--for all objects are shifted by the same amount. N ~ Samir Okasha
Curtain Call quotes by Samir Okasha
I call it Inherent Twice because I am looking forward to seeing it again. ~ Edgar Wright
Curtain Call quotes by Edgar Wright
Choice of evils debates always produce extremism - people choose what they hope is the lesser evil, then call it good and demonize the other choice. It will be a challenge for your generation to synthesize - to move beyond Us versus Them, to We. ~ Margaret Atwood
Curtain Call quotes by Margaret Atwood
We are nothing but shadows
Fading away
Trying to hold on to
This bittersweet life
That we call our own... ~ Ricky Mears
Curtain Call quotes by Ricky Mears
Middlemarch is a novel that is diminished by being put on the screen. It can't help but be, because so much of what we enjoy in Middlemarch is the interplay between what the characters do and what we know about them because of the telling voice.

It's less of a problem for the cinema when it deals with novels that are purely concerned with action and what people do. I haven't thought this through, and I'm just trying it now to see what it sounds like. But maybe it would be less a problem with novels that are told in the first person. The interesting thing to me about Middlemarch, and Thackeray's Vanity Fair, and several other great novels, is precisely this omniscient, as we call it, third person, which naive readers mistake for the author. It isn't George Eliot who is saying this; it's a voice that George Eliot adopts to tell this story.

There can be something very interesting in a novel like Bleak House, which was also done very well on the television by the same adapter, Andrew Davis. Now, Bleak House is told in two voices, as you remember. One is the somewhat trying Esther Summerson, who is a paradigm of every kind of virtue, and the other is a different sort of voice entirely, a voice that tells the story in the present tense, which was unusual for the time, a voice that doesn't seem to have a main character attached to it.

But I think that Dickens is playing a very subtle game here. I've noticed a couple of things about that second narrat ~ Philip Pullman
Curtain Call quotes by Philip Pullman
So she was what Hester called a 911 Christian: in the event of an emergency, call the Lord. ~ Barbara Kingsolver
Curtain Call quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
I think its so good for boxing when a new guy or new blood as we call it, makes a big statement. ~ George Foreman
Curtain Call quotes by George Foreman
So the only way I could stave off any of these assaults was to become a gang banger, and to excel, so I could quell the behavior. If I excelled, then I could call the shots. So I became a community leader from inside. ~ Malik Yusef
Curtain Call quotes by Malik Yusef
The greatest mistake is to think that we ever know why we do things ... I suppose the nearest we can ever come to it is by getting what old people call 'experience.' But by the time we've got that we're no longer the persons who did the things we no longer understand. The trouble is, I suppose, that we change every moment; and the things we did stay. ~ Edith Wharton
Curtain Call quotes by Edith Wharton
When rappers call each other son it leads me to believe they don't take fatherhood very seriously. ~ Dov Davidoff
Curtain Call quotes by Dov Davidoff
My judgment is that the rich undergo cruel trials and bitter tragedies of which the poor know nothing. In the first place I find that the rich suffer perpetually from money troubles. The poor sit snugly at home while sterling exchange falls ten points in a day. Do they care? Not a bit. An adverse balance of trade washes over the nation like a flood. Who have to mop it up? The rich. Call money rushes up to a hundred per cent, and the poor can still sit and laugh at a ten cent moving picture show and forget it. But the rich are troubled by money all the time. ~ Stephen Leacock
Curtain Call quotes by Stephen Leacock
Worst persons of the world those easily take lie wear of their child,For a sec they don't feel hesitation to put child life on risk for self.So how you can call them Human if even they Don't love their own child ~ Mohammed Zaki Ansari

Curtain Call quotes by Rupi Kaur
Aberforth's getting a bit annoyed," said Fred, raising his hand in answer to several cries of greeting. "He wants a kip, and his bar's turned into a railway station."
Harry's mouth fell open. Right behind Lee Jordan came Harry's old girlfriend, Cho Chang. She smiled at him.
"I got the message," she said, holding up her own fake Galleon, and she walked over to sit beside Michael Corner.
"So what's the plan, Harry?" said George.
"There isn't one," said Harry, still disoriented by the sudden appearance of all these people, unable to take everything n while his scar was still burning so fiercely.
"Just going to make it up as we go along, are we? My favorite kind," said Fred.
"You've got to stop this!" Harry told Neville. "What did you call them all back for? This is insane--"
"We're fighting, aren't we?" said Dean, taking out his fake Galleon. "The message said Harry was back, and we were going to fight! I'll have to get a wand, though--"
"You haven't got a wand--?" began Seamus.
Ron turned suddenly to Harry.
"Why can't they help?"
"What?"
"They can help." He dropped his voice and said, so that none of them could hear but Hermione, who stood between them, "We don't know where it is. We've got to find it fast. We don't have to tell them it's a Horcrux."
Harry looked from Ron to Hermione, who murmured, "I think Ron's right. We don't even know what we're looking for, we need them." And when Harry looked unconvinced, "Y ~ J.K. Rowling
Curtain Call quotes by J.K. Rowling
I'm speechless.I think at the rooftops of Paris.
he touches my cheek, pulling my gaze back to him.I suck in my breath.
"Anna.I'm sorry for what happened in Luxembourg Gardens. Not because of the kiss-I've never had a kiss like that in my life-but because I didn't tell you why I was running away.I chased after Meredith because of you."
Touch me again. Please, touch me again.
"All I could think about was what that bastard did to you last Christmas. Toph never tried to explain or apologize. How could I do that to Mer? And I ought to have called you before I went to Ellie's,but I was so anxious to just end it,once and for all, that I wasn't thinking straight."
I reach for him. "St. Clair-"
He pulls back. "And that. Why don't you call me Etienne anymore?"
"But...no one else calls you that.It was weird.Right?"
"No.It wasn't." His expression saddens. "And every time you say 'St. Clair,' it's like you're rejecting me again."
"I have never rejected you."
"But you have. And for Dave." His tone is venomous.
"And you rejected me for Ellie on my birthday. I don't understand. If you liked me so much, why didn't you break up with her?"
He gazes at the river. "I've been confused. I've been so stupid."
"Yes.You have."
"I deserve that."
"Yes.You do." I pause. "But I've been stupid, too. You were right.About...the alone thing. ~ Stephanie Perkins
Curtain Call quotes by Stephanie Perkins
What an odd thing it is to see an entire species
billions of people
playing with, listening to meaningless tonal patterns, occupied and preoccupied for much of their time by what they call 'music.' (
The Overlords, from Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End) ~ Oliver Sacks
Curtain Call quotes by Oliver Sacks
The books called "Law" (or Pentateuch) have carried the account of God's actions from creation to the borders of the promised land. That story is continued in the second main division of the Hebrew Bible: the "Prophets," which is subdivided into "Former Prophets" and "Latter Prophets." The Former Prophets consist of four books: Joshua, Judges, Samuel (later divided into 1-2 Samuel), and Kings (later divided into 1-2 Kings). Their record of divine activity spans nearly seven centuries from Joshua's call to Jehoiachin's release. ~ William Sanford Lasor
Curtain Call quotes by William Sanford Lasor
Amazing how something that happened so long ago can feel so fresh. How it could come back to haunt you from nowhere- the innocuous ring of a telephone, the past come to call from the other end. ~ Megan Miranda
Curtain Call quotes by Megan Miranda
But he came back to his idea.
"My life is very monotonous," the fox said. "I hunt chickens; men hunt me. All the chickens are just alike, and all the men are just alike. And, in consequence, I am a little bored. But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. Yours will call me, like music, out of my burrow. And then look: you see the grain-fields down yonder? I do not eat bread. Wheat is of no use to me. The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. And that is sad. But you have hair that is the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you. And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat ... "
The fox gazed at the little prince, for a long time. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Curtain Call quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
Must I say it, ser? You call me love, yet you refuse me, when I have most desperate need of you. Is it so wrong of me to want a knight to keep me safe? - Arianne ~ George R R Martin
Curtain Call quotes by George R R Martin
She sighed, annoyed at her restlessness. "So," she said, disrupting Wolf in another backward glance.
"Who would win in a fight - you or a pack of wolves?"
He frowned at her, all seriousness. "Depends," he said, slowly, like he was trying to figure out her motive for asking. "How big is the pack?"
"I don't know, what's normal? Six?"
"I could win against six," he said. "Any more than that and it could be a close call."
Scarlet smirked. "You're not in danger of low self-esteem, at least."
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing at all." She kicked a stone from their path. "How about you and ... a lion?"
"A cat? Don't insult me."
She laughed, the sound sharp and surprising. "How about a bear?"
"Why, do you see one out there?"
"Not yet, but I want to be prepared in case I have to rescue you."
The smile she'd been waiting for warmed his face, a glint of white teeth flashing. "I'm not sure. I've never had to fight a bear before. ~ Marissa Meyer
Curtain Call quotes by Marissa Meyer
I have always paid careful attention to social and economic conflicts, to the dialectic - if we can call it that - between high and low. Maybe it's because I was not born or brought up in affluence. ~ Elena Ferrante
Curtain Call quotes by Elena Ferrante
The low green tent Whose curtain never outward swings. ~ John Greenleaf Whittier
Curtain Call quotes by John Greenleaf Whittier
You know what my friends and I used to call girls like you? Girls who had everything handed to them on a silver platter, who only cared about how they looked and who was dating the most popular guy?"
"What?"
His grin grows wider. "We called you bitches. You girls were straight-up bitches. ~ Jessica Warman
Curtain Call quotes by Jessica Warman
You're not even that hot from this close. If I could take it back, trust me, I would. You are nothing like what I thought you'd be."
"Thanks," I drawled. "And here I was hoping you were in love with me."
Another fake smile. "I don't to love, and you're not my type anyway, sorry."
Like I'd believe that after I saw the pictures she'd taken of me half-naked. "My heart is fucking broken, sweetheart."
"As it should be, and don't call me sweetheart."
I chuckled and shook my head. The nerve. ~ Ella Maise
Curtain Call quotes by Ella Maise
The sense of "I" pertains to the person, the body and the brain. When anyone knows true Being for the first time, something else arises from the depths and takes possession... That something is behind the mind; it is infinite, divine, eternal. Some people call it the Kingdom of Heaven, others call it the soul, and others again Nirvana, and Hindus call it liberation; you may give it what name you wish. ~ Ramana Maharshi
Curtain Call quotes by Ramana Maharshi
We'll call ourselves Victorious Secret and our motto will be 'We Live to Spank You.' Duuude. Yes! I'm basically the smartest person in the world. Ever. You in? Of course you're in. Practice begins tomorrow. ~ Gena Showalter
Curtain Call quotes by Gena Showalter
I've seen fish hooked who keep more patience in their worst gill than some of you have in your best moods. If you were a sandwich at McDonalds, they'd call you the McGrump. ~ Buddy Wakefield
Curtain Call quotes by Buddy Wakefield
Well… I dreamed I was alone. I wasn't sure if you were away, or if we were divorced, but it was just me and the girls, and as the dream went on, I realized that you weren't coming back. At first I thought you left me. Then I realized it was because you… died." He waits for my reaction. "I have those dreams about you all the time," I tell him. "Daydreams, I call them. ~ Kristan Higgins

My dad
he would call it timeless, or classic. The type of beauty that no matter what time, age or era, would always still be beautiful. She was beautiful. ~ Jay McLean
Curtain Call quotes by Jay McLean
I started buying bits of broken porcelain. I furnished our first flat with pieces of 'junk.' Some of that 'junk' is now worth an awful lot of money. What I was calling 'junk' in the '60s people wouldn't call 'junk' now. ~ Judith Miller
