In 1955 flying was much more dangerous than it is now, but there was a party atmosphere aboard long flights and everyone enjoyed the ever-flowing drinks and food. Smoking was the norm and it didn't take long before the cabin was full of smoke. The stewardesses were friendly and I can remember some that were very friendly.

I don't remember much about my time in Lisbon because, before I knew it, we were in the air again heading south across the ocean to the vastness of the North African desert. The light yellow sand under us in Morocco and the Spanish Sahara was endless. The fine sand went from the barren coastal surf and endless miles of beautiful beaches, inland as far as the eye could see.

After a time I saw what I believed, at the time, to be a radio relay station located out on a desolate sand spit near Villa Bens. It was only later that I found out that it was Castelo de Tarfaya, a small fortification on the North African coast. Tarfaya was occupied by the British in 1882, when they established a trading post called Casa del Mar. This forgotten part of the world is now in the southern part of Morocco. ~ Captain Hank Bracker, "Seawater Two...."
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Captain Hank Bracker,
Life can take so many twists and turns. You can't ever count yourself out. Even if you're really afraid at some point, you can't think that there's no room for you to grow and do something good with your life. ~ Portia De Rossi
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Portia De Rossi
When I was first writing, I was writing mostly about sporting events, which was really what my assignments were. I was working on the Tour de France bike race and the Barcelona Olympic Games, and those songs tend to be very big, very bombastic-type music, which is the type of music that I love to write. ~ John Tesh
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by John Tesh
Sinners often speak the truth. And saints have led people astray. Examine what is said, not the one who says it. ~ Anthony De Mello
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Anthony De Mello
And I'm not entitled to nostalgia about all that lost wealth and glamour from a century ago. And I am not interested in thin. I want to know what the relationship has been between this wooden object that I am rolling between my fingers - hard and tricky and Japanese - and where it has been. I want to be able to reach to the handle of the door and turn it and feel it open. I want to walk into each room where this object has lived, to feel the volume of the space, to know what pictures were on the walls, how the light fell from the windows. And I want to know whose hands it has been in, and what they felt about it and thought about it - if they thought about it. I want to know what it has witnessed. ~ Edmund De Waal
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Edmund De Waal
A lawyer is sometimes required to search titles, and the client who thinks he has good right to an estate, puts the papers in his hands, and the attorney goes into the public records and finds everything right for three or four years back; but after a time he comes to a break in the title. So he finds that the man who supposed he owned it owns not an acre of the ground which belongs to someone else. I trace the title of this world from century to century until I find the whole right vested in God. Now to whom did he give it? To his own children. All are yours. ~ Thomas De Witt Talmage
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Thomas De Witt Talmage
God is the author, men are only the players. These grand pieces which are played upon earth have been composed in heaven. ~ Honore De Balzac
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Honore De Balzac
I have made a pact with my tongue, not to speak when my heart is disturbed. ~ Saint Francis De Sales
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Saint Francis De Sales
Were a man to spend only one day in Sicily and ask, "What must one see?" I would answer him without hesitation, "Taormina." It is only a landscape, but a landscape where you find everything on earth that seems made to seduce the eyes, the mind and the imagination. ~ Guy De Maupassant
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Guy De Maupassant
But it is sufficient to reflect for a moment, in order to understand that this world was not made for such creatures as we are. Thought, which is developed by a miracle in the nerves of the cells in our brain, powerless, ignorant and confused as it is, and as it will always remain, makes all of us who are intellectual beings eternal and wretched exiles on earth. ~ Guy De Maupassant
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Guy De Maupassant
So long as the laws remain such as they are today, employ some discretion: loud opinion forces us to do so; but in privacy and silence let us compensate ourselves for that cruel chastity we are obliged to display in public. ~ Marquis De Sade
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Marquis De Sade
You must - do you hear me, young man? - you must work more than you are doing! ~ Gustave Flaubert
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Gustave Flaubert
I want to be an aggressive player; One who always find joy in every move. ~ Kenneth De Guzman
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Kenneth De Guzman
Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them - every day begin the task anew. ~ Francis De Sales
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Francis De Sales
The present moment is always full of infinite treasure. It contains far more than you can possibly grasp. Faith is the measure of its riches: what you find in the present moment is according to the measure of your faith. Love also is the measure: the more the heart loves, the more it rejoices in what God provides. The will of God presents itself at each moment like an immense ocean that the desire of your heart cannot empty; yet you will drink from that ocean according to your faith and love. ~ Jean-Pierre De Caussade
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Jean-Pierre De Caussade
Most executives, many scientists, and almost all business school graduates believe that if you analyze data, this will give you new ideas. Unfortunately, this belief is totally wrong. The mind can only see what it is prepared to see. ~ Edward De Bono
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Edward De Bono
When our desires are fulfilled, we never fail to realize the wealth of imagination and the paucity of reality. ~ Ninon De L'Enclos
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Ninon De L'Enclos
Listen, Legs, I'm going to die anyway. I'm human. And I don't know about you, but I don't believe in visions of the future. I believe we choose our own destiny. You didn't give me a choice last time. You just left. But I'm here now. And I love you. Stay with me. Don't fear the future; we'll face it together. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
I know well enough that there have been dogs so loving that they have thrown themselves into the same grave with the dead bodies of their masters; others have stayed upon their masters' graves without stirring a moment from them, and have voluntarily starved themselves to death, refusing to touch the food that was brought them. ~ Miguel De Cervantes
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Miguel De Cervantes
We perceive no charms that are not sharpened, puffed out, and inflated by artifice. Those which glide along naturally and simply easily escape a sight so gross as ours. ~ Michel De Montaigne
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Michel De Montaigne
To endow animals with human emotions has long been a scientific taboo. But if we do not, we risk missing something fundamental, about both animals and us. ~ Frans De Waal
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Frans De Waal
A man would never set out to write a book on the peculiar
situation of the human male. But if I wish to define myself, I
must first of all say: T am a woman ~ Simone De Beauvoir
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Simone De Beauvoir
True it is that she who escapeth safe and unpolluted from out the school of freedom, giveth more confidence of herself than she who comet sound out of the school of severity and restraint. ~ Michel De Montaigne
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Michel De Montaigne
An honorable man would never abandon his friend in time of need, especially if they were in a foreign country. Why? For fear of acting like a coward or of being boorish. I repeat, I admire the fact that, those persons have, through human respect, more courage than Christians and priests have, through charity or through their good intentions. ~ Vincent De Paul
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Vincent De Paul
There would never be anything but this. Stolen moments, stolen kisses, a secret oasis. ~ Melissa De La Cruz
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Melissa De La Cruz
Do I believe a thing has limits!? Of course! Nothing exists that doesn't have limits. Existence means there's always something else, and so everything has limits. Why is it so hard to conceive that a thing is a thing, and that it isn't always being some other thing that's beyond it?"

At that moment I felt in my bones not that I was talking to a man, but to another universe. I tried one last time, from another angle, which I felt compelled to consider legitimate.

"Look, Caeiro... think about numbers... Where do they end? Take any number - say 34. Past it we have 35, 36, 37, 38 - there can be no end to it. There is no number so big that there is no number larger..."

"But that's just numbers," protested my master Caeiro.

And then, looking at me out of his formidable, childlike eyes:

"What is 34 in Reality, anyway? ~ Alvaro De Campos
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Alvaro De Campos
We often forgive those who bore us, but we cannot forgive those whom we bore. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
A body of work may be reviled
mostly by those who have no knowledge of its workings
and yet still carry elements of what can only be considered eternal truths. ~ Charles De Lint
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Charles De Lint
Even if she was the devil's own daughter , God strike me down if I never have her .
May all the devils in hell make off with my soul if he lays a finger on her before I do ! ~ Marquis De Sade
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Marquis De Sade
For myself, I believed that that 13th of March should see a fight to the finish, cost what it might! for if Bloemfontein was to be taken, it would only be over our dead bodies. ~ Christiaan Rudolf De Wet
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Christiaan Rudolf De Wet

Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Miguel De Unamuno
There's nothing so fearsome as the revolt of a sheep, said de Marsay. ~ Honore De Balzac
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Honore De Balzac
Love is a fire that burns unseen,
a wound that aches yet isn't felt,
an always discontent contentment,
a pain that rages without hurting,
a longing for nothing but to long,
a loneliness in the midst of people,
a never feeling pleased when pleased,
a passion that gains when lost in thought.
It's being enslaved of your own free will;
it's counting your defeat a victory;
it's staying loyal to your killer.
But if it's so self-contradictory,
how can Love, when Love chooses,
bring human hearts into sympathy? ~ Luis Vaz De Camoes
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Luis Vaz De Camoes
I love a friendship that flatters itself in the sharpness and vigor of its communications. ~ Michel De Montaigne
Comunhao Geral De Bens quotes by Michel De Montaigne
What is it?" said Jeanne, when Diana was gone; "you look rather gloomy."
"Why, yes."
"What has happened?"
"Oh, mon Dieu! an accident."
"To you?"
"Not precisely to me, but to a person who was near me."
"Who was it?"
"The person I was walking with."
"M. de Monsoreau?"
"Alas! yes; poor dear man."
"What has happened to him?"
"I believe he is dead."
"Dead!" cried Jeanne, starting back in horror.
"Just so."
"He who was here just now talking ... "
"Yes, that is just the cause of his death - he talked too much. ~ Alexandre Dumas

Every man whom chance alone has, by some accident, made a public character, hardly ever fails of becoming, in a short time, a ridiculous private one. ~ Jean Francois Paul De Gondi
