The word cocky can be used inside a book. It can no longer be on the title. ~ Faleena Hopkins
Cocky Author quotes by Faleena Hopkins
F. Scott Fitzgerald believed inserting exclamation points was the literary equivalent of an author laughing at his own jokes, but that's not the case in the modern age; now, the exclamation point signifies creative confusion. All it illustrates is that even the writer can't tell if what they're creating is supposed to be meaningful, frivolous, or cruel. It's an attempt to insert humor where none exists, on the off chance that a potential reader will only be pleased if they suspect they're being entertained. Of course, the reader isn't really sure, either. They just want to know when they're supposed to pretend to be amused. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Cocky Author quotes by Chuck Klosterman
Scotch Kirk, speaking of the precept uttered by Confucius, five hundred years before the time assigned for the birth of Jesus of Nazareth ("Whatsoever ye would not that others should do unto you, do not ye unto them"), says: "That Confucius is the author of this precept is undisputed, and therefore it is indisputable that Christianity has incorporated an article of Chinese morality. ~ Thomas William Doane
Cocky Author quotes by Thomas William Doane
A novel wouldn't be a book if there weren't some flights of fancy on the part of the author, stopping time to examine things, or to tell a joke. ~ Ned Vizzini
Cocky Author quotes by Ned Vizzini

I'm as good as Jean-Claude Van Damme when it comes to martial arts. Sounding a little cocky aren't I ~ Talisa Soto
Cocky Author quotes by Talisa Soto
Each person in the group said something except for me. My silence became noticed. About halfway through the meeting I started to think, I've got to talk. Today, I've got to talk. Fear racked me so bad that sweat ran down my sides. I thought, After the curly-haired woman stops talking I'll raise my hand. A man with a cocky smile told the curly woman that her story was nothing compared to his, he'd been passed out cold from heroin and God knows what, and I wanted to tell him to quit glorifying hinself. I was just about to say the words, a few faces turned toward me as if they could sense my imminent speech, when a man across the circle interrupted.
The opportunity passed; what I wanted to say wouldn't fit now. I tilted on the back two legs of the chair and waited for my desire to speak and be noticed and be part of the group to travel back through my nervous system. Up the synapses condemnation rushed: Why couldn't I spit something out like a normal person? ~ Daphne Scholinski
Cocky Author quotes by Daphne Scholinski
If you don't believe in miracles and your own inner power, you have forgotten just how truly amazing you are! ~ Jan Porter
Cocky Author quotes by Jan Porter
God is the foundation of all authority, He exercises that foundation because He is the author and the owner of His creation. He is the foundation upon which all other authority stands or falls. ~ R.C. Sproul
Cocky Author quotes by R.C. Sproul
Novelist John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars among many other megaselling books, has struggled with [depression] for many years. "There is this weird perpetual hope," he told me, "not just among people with mental illness-- I don't know if it's American or if it's human or what-- but there does seem to be this perpetual hope that if I just get this one thing that my life is missing, the hole inside of me will be filled. ~ John Moe
Cocky Author quotes by John Moe
Anyone who says the artist's field is all answers and no questions has never done any writing or had any dealings with imageryYou are confusing two concepts: answering the questions and formulating them correctly. Only the latter is required of an author. ~ Anton Chekhov
Cocky Author quotes by Anton Chekhov
They often took a difficulty I had and turned it into an amusing little anecdote. They would take a deadly seriousness, my seriousness, and turn it into a great laugh that they would then let out into the room. What kind of people were they to do that? The amusing anecdote had sharp edges, flew into me and scratched my soul. ~ Gunilla Gerland
Cocky Author quotes by Gunilla Gerland
Science fiction, as I mentioned before, writes about what is neither impossible nor possible; the fact is that, when the question of possibility comes up in science fiction, the author can only reply that nobody knows. We haven't been there yet. We haven't discovered that yet. Science fiction hasn't happened. ~ Joanna Russ
Cocky Author quotes by Joanna Russ
Seeing that glorious body and to-die-for face only made her crave him more.
Then he had kissed her.
And what a kiss!
It was a kiss like none other. There was fire and a hunger that was both savage as well as tender.
At first.
Then the fire had come. The kiss had charred her, searing her from the inside out. Each touch of his tongue, each time those lips of his moved over here, had been the most incredible feeling in the world. ~ Donna Grant
Cocky Author quotes by Donna Grant
An author I know once explained why writing became so much more difficult in the twenty-first century: "The biggest problem in my life," he said, "is that my work machine is also my pornography delivery machine. ~ Chuck Klosterman
Cocky Author quotes by Chuck Klosterman

Setting the stage for the Tower of Babel, the author says that, while humanity had a mission to reflect God, it had been distracted by its own reflection and was both fascinated and fearful of what it saw. ~ N. T. Wright
Cocky Author quotes by N. T. Wright

Cocky Author quotes by S.A. Tawks

Cocky Author quotes by Mortimer J. Adler
I'd recognize this look more and more as I grew older, in places both private and public, for reasons both explicit and unspoken, and once you've been seen through in this way -- once you have been made transparent -- no amount of physical pain matches the weight of invisibility. ~ Brando Skyhorse (Author)
Cocky Author quotes by Brando Skyhorse (Author)
Persons appear to us according to the light we throw upon them from our own minds. -Laura Ingalls Wilder, author (1867-1957) ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
Cocky Author quotes by Laura Ingalls Wilder
One last characteristic of the memoir that is important to recognize is one which also applies to essays, and which Georg Lukacs described as "the process of judging." This may seem problematic to some, since...we connect it with 'judgmental,' often used nowadays as a derogatory word. But the kind of judgment necessary to the good personal essay, or to the memoir, is not that nasty tendency to oversimplify and dismiss other people out of hand but rather the willingness to form and express complex opinions, both positive and negative.

If the charm of memoir is that we, the readers, see the author struggling to understand her past, then we must also see the author trying out opinions she may later shoot down, only to try out others as she takes a position about the meaning of her story. The memoirist need not necessarily know what she thinks about her subject but she must be trying to find out; she may never arrive at a definitive verdict, but she must be willing to share her intellectual and emotional quest for answers. Without this attempt to make a judgment, the voice lacks interest, the stories, becalmed in the doldrums of neutrality, become neither fiction nor memoir, and the reader loses respect for the writer who claims the privilege of being the hero in her own story without meeting her responsibility to pursue meaning. Self revelation without analysis or understanding becomes merely an embarrassment to both reader and writer. ~ Judith Barrington
Cocky Author quotes by Judith Barrington
Snooki is now a published author. I'm blaming Sarah Palin. She lowered the bar. ~ David Letterman
Cocky Author quotes by David Letterman
If you copy from one author, it's plagiarism, but if you copy from many, it's research. ~ Wilson Mizner

Cocky Author quotes by Michael Lewis
Are you going to put on your old cheer uniform?"
Ryan was a little too excited by the thought of me in a costume, so I squashed that idea, and fast.
"In your dreams."
"Not exactly." Ryan grinned wickedly. "In my dreams you're usually dressed like Wonder Woman."
Ugh. I wondered how long it would take for him to start in on the superhero crap. Obviously, not long. I was not amused, but Ryan seemed to think
himself hilarious. I could also tell by the look on his face that he was quite confident he'd have me in costume one day. "Never gonna happen," I
assured him. "Ever."
And of course he responded with that classic, cocky smile. "Just like you were never gonna be my girlfriend, right? ~ Kelly Oram
Cocky Author quotes by Kelly Oram
I am satisfied that if a book is a good one, it is so whatever the sex of the author may be. All novels are or should be written for both men and women to read, and I am at a loss to conceive how a man should permit himself to write anything that would be really disgraceful to a woman, or why a woman should be censured for writing anything that would be proper and becoming for a man. ~ Anne Bronte
Cocky Author quotes by Anne Bronte
I know that an author must be brave enough to chop away clinging tentacles of good taste for the sake of a great work. But this is no great work, you see. ~ Dorothy Parker
Cocky Author quotes by Dorothy Parker
Michael Lewis, the author of Moneyball, wrote in the New York Times in February 2009, The virus that infected professional baseball in the 1990s, the use of statistics to find new and better ways to value players and strategies, has found its way into every major sport. Not just basketball and football, but also soccer and cricket and rugby and, for all I know, snooker and darts - ~ Anonymous

Cocky Author quotes by Latif Mercado
I reread this letter several times. I could scarcely deny its authorship or its ugliness. All I could plead was that I had been its author then, but was not its author now. Indeed, I didn't recognise that part of myself from which the letter came. But perhaps this was simply further self-deception. ~ Julian Barnes
Cocky Author quotes by Julian Barnes

Tina Seelig, author of What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20, ~ Ashwin Sanghi
Cocky Author quotes by Ashwin Sanghi
Character development is what I value most as a reader of fiction. If an author can manage to create the sort of characters who feel fully real, who I find myself worrying about while I'm walking through the grocery store aisles a week later, that to me is as close to perfection as it gets. ~ J. Courtney Sullivan
Cocky Author quotes by J. Courtney Sullivan
