The earliest full-length account of a chariot race appears in Book xxiii of the Iliad. ~ Richard Arnold Epstein
Chariot Race quotes by Richard Arnold Epstein
Leo resisted the urge to throw a grenade in Frank's face. "I suppose I should know who Pelops was?"
"He was a prince, won his wife in a chariot race. Supposedly he started the Olympic games in honor of that."
Hazel sniffed. "How romantic. 'Nice wife you have, Prince Pelops.' 'Thanks. I won her in a chariot race. ~ Rick Riordan
Chariot Race quotes by Rick Riordan
Evangelicals come from all ethnic and racial backgrounds, but nearly 90 percent of Americans who call themselves evangelicals are white. ~ Christian Smith
Chariot Race quotes by Christian Smith
Our failure as humans becomes illness and lethal when we cling to our differences.
Of tribes, races and class. Of religion, cultures and gender.
We forget who we are; blood, skin and bones, hearts, minds and souls. A sick world in need of healing ~ Margaret Sitawa
Chariot Race quotes by Margaret Sitawa
For how does one overthrow, change or even challenge a system that you have been taught to admire, to love, to believe in? ~ Bell Hooks
Chariot Race quotes by Bell Hooks
Great soul of Gandhi, cover your ears. You will not want to hear this! Listen, you inbred piece of Ku Klux Krap! You white people love to be racist, but the only races you can tell apart are Indianapolis and Daytona. I hope I am reincarnated as toothpaste, so I never have to see you again. Now take your twelve-pack of wife-beating juice and get the park out of my store! ~ Carlos Mencia
Chariot Race quotes by Carlos Mencia
Solitude, the safeguard of mediocrity, is to genius the stern friend, the cold, obscure shelter where moult the wings which will bear it farther than suns and stars. He who should inspire and lead his race must be defended from travelling with the souls of other men, from living, breathing, reading, and writing in the daily, time-worn yoke of their opinions. "In the morning, - solitude;" said Pythagoras; that Nature may speak to the imagination, as she does never in company, and that her favorite may make acquaintance with those divine strengths which disclose themselves to serious and abstracted thought. 'Tis very certain that Plato, Plotinus, Archimedes, Hermes, Newton, Milton, Wordsworth, did not live in a crowd, but descended into it from time to time as benefactors: and the wise instructor will press this point of securing to the young soul in the disposition of time and the arrangements of living, periods and habits of solitude. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Chariot Race quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
This race is hotter than a Times Square Rolex. ~ Dan Rather
Chariot Race quotes by Dan Rather
If race disappears as a category of official division, as it has in most of the world, this will facilitate the emergence of a plural racial order where the groups exist in practice but are not official recognized - and anyone trying to address racial division is likely to be chided for racializing the population. ~ Eduardo Bonilla-Silva
Chariot Race quotes by Eduardo Bonilla-Silva
I'm doin' something different. I mean, I talk a little bit about race and interracial dating, but it's not the heart of my act. I just try to do what I think is funny; there's no huge message or through line. ~ Hannibal Buress
Chariot Race quotes by Hannibal Buress
Awake

Shake dreams from your hair
My pretty child, my sweet one.
Choose the day and
choose the sign of your day
The day's divinity
First thing you see.
A vast radiant beach
in a cool jeweled moon
Couples naked race down by it's quiet side
And we laugh like soft, mad children
Smug in the woolly cotton brains of infancy
The music and voices are all around us.
Choose, they croon, the Ancient Ones
The time has come again
Choose now, they croon,
Beneath the moon
Beside an ancient lake
Enter again the sweet forest
Enter the hot dream
Come with us
Everything is broken up and dances. ~ The Doors
Chariot Race quotes by The Doors
After the mountains, I found that when my blood sugar levels were between 140 and 180, I was strong during my pulls--and felt refreshed and ready to go for the next ones. Same with Joe. This was a vital piece of information for all eight of us and we immediately spread the word among our teammates. Working out the diabetes strategy was as important as our race strategy. Bike-racing teams ahve to worry about a lot of things; Team Type 1 has to worry about all those same things plus a potentially life-threatening disease. ~ Phil Southerland
Chariot Race quotes by Phil Southerland
According to Bartholomew, an important goal of St. Louis zoning was to prevent movement into 'finer residential districts . . . by colored people.' He noted that without a previous zoning law, such neighborhoods have become run-down, 'where values have depreciated, homes are either vacant or occupied by color people.' The survey Bartholomew supervised before drafting the zoning ordinance listed the race of each building's occupants. Bartholomew attempted to estimate where African Americans might encroach so the commission could respond with restrictions to control their spread.

The St. Louis zoning ordinance was eventually adopted in 1919, two years after the Supreme Court's Buchanan ruling banned racial assignments; with no reference to race, the ordinance pretended to be in compliance. Guided by Bartholomew's survey, it designated land for future industrial development if it was in or adjacent to neighborhoods with substantial African American populations.

Once such rules were in force, plan commission meetings were consumed with requests for variances. Race was frequently a factor. For example, on meeting in 1919 debated a proposal to reclassify a single-family property from first-residential to commercial because the area to the south had been 'invaded by negroes.' Bartholomew persuaded the commission members to deny the variance because, he said, keeping the first-residential designation would preserve homes in the area as unaffordable to African Am ~ Richard Rothstein
Chariot Race quotes by Richard Rothstein
There is only one home to the life of a river-mussel; there is only one home to the life of a tortoise; there is only one shell to the soul of man: there is only one world to the spirit of our race. If that world leaves its course and smashes on boulders of the great void, whose world will give us shelter? ~ Wole Soyinka
Chariot Race quotes by Wole Soyinka
I'm just tired of hearing about God all the time. What has He got to do with anything? ... I'm not going to be immoral or commit crimes because I don't believe. I don't even think about that. I just get so tired of Him getting the credit for things the human race achieves through its own effort. Now, there simply is no God. There's only man. And it's he who makes miracles. ~ Lorraine Hansberry
Chariot Race quotes by Lorraine Hansberry
A paradox: the same century invented History and PHotography. But History is a memory fabricated according to positive formulas, a pure intellectual discourse which abolishes mythic Time; and the Photograph is a certain but fugitive testimony; so that everything, today, prepares our race for this impotence: to be no longer able to conceive duration, affectively or symbolically: the age of the Photograph is also the age of revolutions, contestations, assassinations, explosions, in short, of impatiences, of everything which denies ripening. ~ Roland Barthes
Chariot Race quotes by Roland Barthes
We can't afford to stand pat while the world races by. The United States of America did not become the most prosperous nation on Earth by sheer luck or happenstance. We got here because each time a generation of Americans has faced a changing world, we have changed with it. We have not feared our future; we have shaped it. ~ Barack Obama
Chariot Race quotes by Barack Obama
It was clearly the Native American curse on the white man in action. After taking their land and converting everything that was holy and good into money, the white man became aged and foolish and then gambled all that money away at Native American casinos. The power of this magic was indisputable and in evidence all around me. Senior citizens chain smoked and dumped money into the machines, staring with eyes that only reacted to the prospect of making a buck from risk and self-destruction. Especially if this were enhanced by the notion of a fate that had their interests in mind in a way loosely connected to their Christian God who usually took their side in racial relations, if history were to be a judge. ~ Carl-John X. Veraja
Chariot Race quotes by Carl-John X. Veraja
Viewed freely, the English language is the accretion and growth of every dialect, race, and range of time, and is both the free and compacted composition of all. ~ Walt Whitman
Chariot Race quotes by Walt Whitman
Butler compared the tongues of these eternal talkers to race-horses, which go the faster the less weight they carry. ~ Charles Caleb Colton
Chariot Race quotes by Charles Caleb Colton
Just as the divine Redeemer, dying on the Cross, offered Himself as Head of the whole human race to the eternal Father, so also in this "clean oblation" (Mal 1:2), He, as Head of the Church, offers not only Himself but, in Himself, all His mystical members. ~ Pope Pius XII
Chariot Race quotes by Pope Pius XII
To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships. ~ W.E.B. Du Bois
Chariot Race quotes by W.E.B. Du Bois
He swift don't win the race. It goes to the worthy, who can divide the word of truth. ~ Bob Dylan
Chariot Race quotes by Bob Dylan
I have stood in a bar in Lambourn and been offered, in the space of five minutes, a poached salmon, a leg of a horse, a free trip to Chantilly, marriage, a large unsolicited loan, ten tips for a ten-horse race, two second-hand cars, a fight, and the copyright to a dying jockey's life story. ~ Jeffrey Bernard
Chariot Race quotes by Jeffrey Bernard
Protected businesses never, never become competitive ... Halliburton, Bechtel, Parsons, KPMG, RTI, Blackwater and all other U.S. corporations that were in Iraq to take advantage of the reconstruction were part of a vast protectionist racket whereby the U.S. government had created their markets with war, barred their competitors from even entering the race, then paid them to do the work, while guaranteeing them a profit to boot - all at taxpayer expense. ~ Naomi Klein
Chariot Race quotes by Naomi Klein
I'm not an expert on the arms race. ~ A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Chariot Race quotes by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
But my absolute favorite part of it is after I finish, so I can wait there to encourage people to keep pushing to the end. By the time I'm finished all the fast people are already passed, so it's good to be able to cheer on those who really need that encouragement to finish. It's a great feeling when you acknowledge someone and they just brighten up and pick up their pace. That cheering at the end makes such a difference for the runners, you see it in the smiles on everybody's face. I love to be a part of that. It's just a tremendously inspiring race. ~ Chris Cooper
Chariot Race quotes by Chris Cooper
Art is exalted above religion and race. Not a single solitary soul these days believes in the religions of the Assyrians, the Egyptians and the Greeks ... Only their art, whenever it was beautiful, stands proud and exalted, rising above all time. ~ Emil Nolde
Chariot Race quotes by Emil Nolde
No treaty, however much it may be to the advantage of all, however tightly it may be worded, can provide absolute security against the risks of deception and evasion. But it can, if it is sufficiently effective in its enforcement and if it is sufficiently in the interests of its signers, offer far more security and far fewer risks than an unabated, uncontrolled, unpredictable arms race. ~ John F. Kennedy
Chariot Race quotes by John F. Kennedy
My death would not be the fault of any human but the fault of some unfortunate but immutable fact of "race," imposed upon an innocent country by the inscrutable judgment of invisible gods. ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
Chariot Race quotes by Ta-Nehisi Coates
That was a frustrating race for me. I pushed as hard as possible at the start on the medium tyres whilst everyone around me was on the grippier soft compound rubber. Once I moved to the soft tyres I was able to set the race's then fastest lap so things looked good with our strategy. Unfortunately the engine anti-kill triggered when I came in to make my final pit stop which cost me a lot of time. It's frustrating as we should have finished strongly. My focus is now Barcelona where I've delivered very strongly in the past. ~ Pastor Maldonado
Chariot Race quotes by Pastor Maldonado
This race is never grateful: from the first, One fills their cup at supper with pure wine, Which back they give at cross-time on a sponge, In bitter vinegar. ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Chariot Race quotes by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
I do not think it a coincidence that when women and people of color are finally given opportunity to participate in limited spheres of decision making in society, computers are simultaneously celebrated as a more optimal choice for making social decisions. ~ Safiya Umoja Noble
Chariot Race quotes by Safiya Umoja Noble
Civilization has taught man how to live in dense crowds, and by that very fact those crowds are likely ultimately to constitute a majority of the world's population. Already there are many who prefer this crowded life, but there are others who do not, and these will gradually be eliminated. Life in the crowded conditions of cities has many unattractive features, but in the long run these may be overcome, not so much by altering them, but simply by changing the human race into liking them. ~ Charles Galton Darwin
Chariot Race quotes by Charles Galton Darwin
I'm the result of upbringing, class, race, gender, social prejudices, and economics. So I'm a victim again. A result. ~ James Hillman
Chariot Race quotes by James Hillman
The race of life is a marathon, not a sprint. ~ Tony Robbins
Chariot Race quotes by Tony Robbins
Your Soul Family are those that are tuned in to your frequency. You sense a strong connection beyond blood or race; you're connected by energy and vibration. Through quantum communication, they intuitively answer your silent call and show up bringing unconditional love and support at the perfect times. You share an unspoken level of understanding … they just get you and what you're about. For those people, be thankful … they are your reminders from the Universe that on the deepest level of our existence we are one.

- Kianu Starr ~ Kianu Starr
Chariot Race quotes by Kianu Starr
End of the human race is just part of an endless life cycle. ~ Toba Beta
Chariot Race quotes by Toba Beta
To pay attention to the American political process, and what the
candidates for this nation's highest office have to say and not say about the issues that are of importance to them and thus we are to presume importance to the Nation, you would get the impression that the issue of race, that the issue of racism, that the issue of discrimination, and certainly that the issue of white racial privilege were non existent issues; that they were of really no importance, or that of very little importance, because you will not hear and have not heard any of the candidates for the presidency of the United States, in either party, of whatever political ideology, make this an issue. Yes,they talk about poverty and occasionally they talk about schooling and education. They talk about healthcare. They talk about all of those things, but not once have any of those candidates tried to directly connect the role that racism, the role that racial
discrimination, the role that institutional racial oppression and white privilege play in regard to health care, in regard to housing, in regard to schooling. It is as if those issues exist in a vacuum and have no relationship to color, have no relationship to race, have
no relationship to a history of racial subordination. ~ Tim Wise
Chariot Race quotes by Tim Wise
Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country. ~ David Hilbert
Chariot Race quotes by David Hilbert
I embrace you despite your race.
I accept you despite your religion.
I admire you despite your education.
I welcome you despite your gender.
I love you despite your status.
I need you despite your politics.

You are my brothers, you are my sisters,
you are my mothers, and you are my fathers.
I am as you are, you are as I am; we are as we are.
Let us become as we were meant to become. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Chariot Race quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
Americans are still a fair and just people. They know the difference between racism and race-baiting, between violence and accusations of violence, between hatred and patriotism. Let them weigh the evidence for as long as they need, because when the verdict comes down, we will once again be on the right side. ~ Glenn Beck
Chariot Race quotes by Glenn Beck
Freedom is the natural condition of the human race, in which the Almighty intended men to live. Those who fight the purpose of the Almighty will not succeed. They always have been, they always will be beaten. ~ Abraham Lincoln
