We all know what we should have done as we look backward. Yet looking backward further still, we may say that all goes as the Wild Magic wills. And we must look forward if we are to live long enough to look backward. ~ Mercedes Lackey
Character Saravasse quotes by Mercedes Lackey
The English tradition offers the great tapestry novel, where you have the emotional aspect of a detective's personal life, the circumstances of the crime and, most important, the atmosphere of the English countryside that functions as another character. ~ Elizabeth George
Character Saravasse quotes by Elizabeth George
I have zero idea of what my involvement with 'The Lying Game' is going to be. I'm a character that may or may not be permanently involved. ~ Tyler Christopher
Character Saravasse quotes by Tyler Christopher
Anne of Austria (with great submission to a Crowned Head do I say it) was a B
. She had spirit and courage without parts, devotion without common morality, and lewdness without tenderness either to justify or to dignify it. Her two sons were no more Lewis the Thirteen's than they were mine. ~ Lord Chesterfield
Character Saravasse quotes by Lord Chesterfield
After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead. ~ Lisa Edelstein
Character Saravasse quotes by Lisa Edelstein
It was a pleasure to have somebody else be the boss. It wouldn't have been nearly as much fun any other way. He's been around and made a lot of movies and he's a great straightforward person to work for. And it was a pleasure to see other people to pick up characters that you've sketched out loosely on paper and make them into something fascinating. ~ Garrison Keillor
Character Saravasse quotes by Garrison Keillor
When I started experimenting with fantasy and horror films and looking for characters who had some sort of emotional or mental difficulty, I saw opportunities to express my music - dare I say art - in a way that I could get a bit surreal - like Francis Bacon's screaming pope, or Edvard Munch with [The Scream]. ~ Nicolas Cage
Character Saravasse quotes by Nicolas Cage
Psychiatric diagnoses are considered to be technical and bounded; you are either in or out. In contrast, a biblical perspective puts many interpersonal differences on a continuum: people may have more or less of something. This is relevant to sins, spiritual gifts, weaknesses, and character qualities. ~ Edward T. Welch
Character Saravasse quotes by Edward T. Welch
Writers tend to hate recurring characters; there's this writer snob thing about it. But I don't have that. I feel like the challenge is always to find a cool and innovative way to do it and, obviously, to not repeat your jokes. ~ Ana Gasteyer
Character Saravasse quotes by Ana Gasteyer
I consider 'White Collar' my home base. I'm so lucky to get to play a character that's very multifaceted and the writers take risks on and never get into a staid process with. ~ Matt Bomer
Character Saravasse quotes by Matt Bomer
I'm not the same person as the character I do in my songs. She's crazy! The 'Daddy Song' was the first sketch I ever wrote, especially on the guitar and everything - and definitely the most offensive. And absurd. ~ Carly Craig
Character Saravasse quotes by Carly Craig
On the Hunger Games Fan Race fail and the portrayal of POC in fantasy literature:
It is as if the POC in the text are walking around with a great big red sign over them for some editors and it reads I AM NOT A REAL CHARACTER. I AM A PROBLEM YOU MUST DEAL WITH. The white characters are permitted to saunter about with their physical descriptions hanging out all over the place, but best not make mention of dark skin or woolly/curly hair or dark eyes (Unless, of course, that character is white. None of my white-skinned dark-eyed characters had any problem being described as such. And I'm pretty sure that Sól's curly hair never gave anyone a single pause for thought.) As I said, I understand the desire not to define a POC simply by their physical attributes, and I understand cutting physical descriptions if no other character is described physically – but pussyfooting about in this manner with POC is doing nothing but white wash the characters themselves. It's already much too hard to get readers to latch onto the fact that some characters may not be caucasian, why must we dance about their physical description as if it were some kind of shameful dirty little secret. You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the way homosexuality used to only ever be hinted at in texts. It was up to the reader to 'read between the lines' or 'its there if you look for it' and all that total bullshit which used to be the norm. ~ Celine Kiernan
Character Saravasse quotes by Celine Kiernan
Plots and character don't make life. Life is here and now, anytime you say the word, anytime you let her rip. ~ Henry Miller
Character Saravasse quotes by Henry Miller
When you're a young actor you like to go for characters with a bit of flair, so in many films I ended up playing the weirdos. I can assure you I'm not a psycho or a criminal or a bully. ~ Kiefer Sutherland
Character Saravasse quotes by Kiefer Sutherland
I think of myself more as a character actor than that ingenue leading lady, who started out something like Michelle Pfeiffer, or Jessica Lange. I'm a bit quirkier than that. ~ Joan Allen
Character Saravasse quotes by Joan Allen
The qualities we appreciate in a character are not the same as those we would look for in a college roommate. ~ Margaret Atwood
Character Saravasse quotes by Margaret Atwood
Sometimes when you do a part, the wall between you and the characters can be very porous. You can sort of move in and out of your character's persona and being. And that just couldn't happen on this one because of working with him. ~ Kyra Sedgwick
Character Saravasse quotes by Kyra Sedgwick
The aim of a ship's captain is a successful voyage; a doctor's, health; a general's, victory. So the aim of our ideal statesman is the citizens' happy life--that is, a life secure in wealth, rich in resources, abundant in renown, and honorable in its moral character. That is the task which I wish him to accomplish--the greatest and best that any man can have. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Character Saravasse quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
Empathy is a character trait which ennobles a man. ~ Kristian Goldmund Aumann
Character Saravasse quotes by Kristian Goldmund Aumann
I was starting to believe I was a character in a greater story, which is why the elements of story made sense in the first place. ~ Donald Miller
Character Saravasse quotes by Donald Miller
There's something so quietly contained in the moments when one reaches their hand out to support your tragedy.
It's hardly ever spoken about, but the feeling of belonging to somewhere, or someone for a split second, gives you enough power to carry on a few more steps.
When the world is full of compassionate people like this, the world will know Unconditional Love. ~ Nikki Rowe
Character Saravasse quotes by Nikki Rowe
Usually I'm frustrated when I look at my films and I don't believe that I've made a real transformation beyond my usual sets of gestures and expressions. I still have this nagging feeling that it's me, that I didn't create a unique character. ~ Helena Bonham Carter
Character Saravasse quotes by Helena Bonham Carter
I think as an actor ... I don't like to compare a character to anybody else, just because I respect other people's work, and I want that character to have his own identity. ~ Michael Mando
Character Saravasse quotes by Michael Mando
When you make a movie, everyone should leave their own personal problems at home. When they start bringing those to set, filming can be very difficult ... You don't need any extra drama. Put the drama into the story, in the characters. ~ Robert De Niro
Character Saravasse quotes by Robert De Niro
People are always thinking that I'm the main character in my books, but each one has been different, and sometimes they've been men. ~ Sue Miller
Character Saravasse quotes by Sue Miller
The predominant difference between television and film is the pace to which you work, but the development of the character or the process for playing the character isn't necessarily different. ~ Elijah Wood
Character Saravasse quotes by Elijah Wood
I say, without characters, fame lives long. ~ William Shakespeare
Character Saravasse quotes by William Shakespeare
Even though I was theatrically trained, learning to develop a character was an awesome experience. ~ Corin Nemec
Character Saravasse quotes by Corin Nemec
O sin, how you paint your face! how you flatter us poor mortals on to death! You never appear to the sinner in your true character; you make fair promises, but you never fulfil one; your tongue is smoother than oil, but the poison of asps is under your lip! ~ Hosea Ballou
Character Saravasse quotes by Hosea Ballou
Developing a character with genuine depth requires a focus on not just desire but how the character deals with frustration of her desires, as well as her vulnerabilities, her secrets, and especially her contradictions. This development needs to be forged in scenes, the better to employ your intuition rather than your intellect. ~ David Corbett
Character Saravasse quotes by David Corbett
I love creating stories, dreaming up characters and breathing life into them. From several generations of Irish storytellers, I think that's what I was born to do. ~ Linda Conrad
Character Saravasse quotes by Linda Conrad
I don't know if you've ever seen some of the Sidney Lumet movies, like Dog Day Afternoon [1975] or Network [1976]. They're real events that happen in real time, and there are all of these different characters experiencing the same thing in different parts of the movie ... I am so bad at explaining my films. But it's in the world of finance and the world of media, and how they connect. It was a big undertaking. A big, mainstream movie, which stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney. But for me, it's really just a small story about character and people. ~ Jodie Foster
Character Saravasse quotes by Jodie Foster
As far as anybody in the rap game ever tryin' to assassinate my character, that's impossible. You talkin' about a man who has always walked the walk and talked the talk. ~ Suge Knight
Character Saravasse quotes by Suge Knight
The true test is, whether the object be of a local character, and local use; or, whether it be of general benefit to the states. If it be purely local, congress cannot constitutionally appropriate money for the object. But, if the benefit be general, it matters not, whether in point of locality it be in one state, or several; whether it be of large, or of small extent. ~ Joseph Story
Character Saravasse quotes by Joseph Story
Age 50 is the mile marker where any mildly perceptive person becomes acutely aware that he or she alone is accountable for the content and coherence of their character. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Character Saravasse quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Embracing a life content with fewer possessions has modeled for them the important truths that personal belongings are not the key to happiness, that security is found in their character, and that the pursuit of happiness runs a different road than the pursuit of possessions. ~ Joshua Becker
Character Saravasse quotes by Joshua Becker
A song in a musical works best when a character has to sing - when words won't do the trick anymore. The same idea applies to a long speech in a play or a movie or on television. You want to force the character out of a conversational pattern. ~ Aaron Sorkin
Character Saravasse quotes by Aaron Sorkin
The world was a grand confusion. Finally, when I was drunk, and my mind couldn't do what I wanted it to do, I went home. I would lie alone In the dark, feeling that I was a character in a story that had lost its plot."
Sann "Don't ever use the word tragedy again. You tell what happened, and let the reader say it's a tragedy. If you're crying, the reader won't. ~ Pete Hamill
Character Saravasse quotes by Pete Hamill
The basic idea behind self-signaling is that despite what we tend to think, we don't have a very clear notion of who we are. We generally believe that we have a privileged view of our own preferences and character, but in reality we don't know ourselves that well (and definitely not as well as we think we do). Instead, we observe ourselves in the same way we observe and judge the actions of other people - inferring who we are and what we like from our actions. For ~ Dan Ariely
Character Saravasse quotes by Dan Ariely
People have obsessions and fears and passions which they don't admit to. I think every character is interesting and has extremes. It's the novelist privilege to see how odd everyone is. ~ Iris Murdoch
Character Saravasse quotes by Iris Murdoch
But folks always underestimate what the promise of a lifetime of starvation, powerlessness, and humiliation can provoke in a young person's character. ~ Junot Diaz
Character Saravasse quotes by Junot Diaz
As I conceive this doctrine to be a gross misrepresentation of the character and moral government of God, and to affect many other articles in the scheme of Christianity, greatly disfiguring and depraving it; I shall show, ... that it has no countenance whatever in reason, or the Scriptures; and, therefore, that the whole doctrine of atonement, with every modification of it, has been a departure from the primitive and genuine doctrine of Christianity. ~ Joseph Priestley
Character Saravasse quotes by Joseph Priestley
I can't recall a story that played out exactly as I'd expected it to. That's one of the thrills of journalism - being surprised, and learning new stuff, but it also poses the biggest challenge to a writer's character. ~ Dave Barry
Character Saravasse quotes by Dave Barry
I don't know if there is a gene for comedy, but my dad was a very funny man. He just didn't know it. He was a naturally funny character, and when my brother and I would laugh at things he said and did, he would say, 'What do you think is so funny?' ~ James Belushi
Character Saravasse quotes by James Belushi
A talent can be cultivated in tranquility; a character only in the rushing stream of life. ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Character Saravasse quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
I think on 'ER,' my other long-running show, I had some ideas about what's going on. 'Stargate Universe,' they were kind of secretive too a little bit about what they wanted to do, but I kind of liked working this way. I like the surprises, and I like knowing just enough to work on the character. ~ Ming-Na Wen
