After the gruesome facts became known, the Bolivian government ordered the army to find Guevara's remains for a proper burial.

He confirmed General Vargas' statement and added that the guerrilla fighters had been burned, before dumping their bodies into a mass grave, dug by a bulldozer, at the end of the Vallegrande airstrip.
