The Himalayan Glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau have been among the most affected by global warming. The Himalayas ... provide more than half of the drinking water for 40% of the world's population ... Within the next half-century, that 40% of the world's people may well face a very serious drinking water shortage, unless the world acts boldly and quickly to mitigate global warming. ~ Al Gore
Water Shortage quotes by Al Gore
I want to be done with tears, and the day is too beautiful for them anyway. Nevertheless, I consider my tears for a moment, the idea of them, a link to the earth's ancient origins. I'm comforted by the notion that I carry a bit of the sea within myself wherever I go. It's nice to think that water is not such an exotic thing after all. ~ Denise Getson
Water Shortage quotes by Denise Getson
Some of the areas in China have been under very grave water scarcity: for example, the north China plain; they are facing a very serious water shortage. Per capita levels have dropped to very serious levels, including in Beijing. ~ Ma Jun
Water Shortage quotes by Ma Jun
For every drop of water you waste, you must know that somewhere on earth someone is desperately looking for a drop of water! ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
Water Shortage quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
She waited the next day. Each hour warmed until noon, blistered after midday, throbbed past sunset. Later, the moon threw hope across the water, but that died, too. Another sunrise, another white-hot noon. Sunset again. All hope gone to neutral. ~ Delia Owens
Water Shortage quotes by Delia Owens
Abundance is a state, not a quantity. Idea of shortage is man-made. ~ Avtarjeet Singh Dhanjal
Water Shortage quotes by Avtarjeet Singh Dhanjal
Just above Tommy's face were the Maiden and the Troll, two of his oldest wall people. The troll lived in a cave deep in the woods. He was big (Tommy knew the troll was even bigger than his daddy, and if the troll told his daddy to sit down and shut up, he would in a second), and he looked scary, with his little eyes and crooked teeth like fangs, but he had a secret. The secret was that he wasn't scary at all. He liked to read, and play chess by mail with a gnome from over by the closet wall, and he never killed anything. The troll was a good troll, but everyone judged him by his looks. And that, Tommy knew, was a mean thing to do, though everyone did it.
The maiden was very beautiful. Even more beautiful than Tommy's mommy. She had long blonde hair that fell in heavy curls to her waist, and big blue eyes, and she always smiled even though her family was poor. She came into the woods near the troll's cave to get water from a spring, for her family. The spring bubbled out of Tommy's wall right next to where his hand lay when he was asleep. Sometimes she only came and filled her jug and left. But other times she would sit awhile, and sing songs of love lost, and sailing ships, and the kings and queens of Elfland. And the troll, so hideous and so kind, would listen to her soft voice from the shadows just inside the entrance of his cave, which sat just below the shelf where Tommy kept his favorite toys and books.
Tommy felt bad for the troll. He loved the maiden who came ~ Michael Kanuckel
Water Shortage quotes by Michael Kanuckel
We are drawn to each other like drops of water, like the planets we repulse each other like magnets, like the color of our skin. ~ Tite Kubo
Water Shortage quotes by Tite Kubo
Why worry about minor little details like clean air, clean water, safe ports and the safety net when Jesus is going to give the world an "Extreme Makeover: Planet Edition" right after he finishes putting Satan in his place once and for all? ~ Arianna Huffington
Water Shortage quotes by Arianna Huffington
I am roots in the earth. I am water that flows. I am grounded. I am Watcher. ~ Veronica Wolff
Water Shortage quotes by Veronica Wolff
My goldfish is swimming around all excited inside the fishbowl on the fridge so I reach up and drop a Valium in its water. ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Water Shortage quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
Lady, the sun's light to our eyes is dear, And fair the tranquil reaches of the sea, And flowery earth in May, and bounding waters; And so right many fair things I might praise; Yet nothing is so radiant and so fair As for souls childless, with desire sore-smitten, To see the light of babes about the house. ~ Euripides
Water Shortage quotes by Euripides
When you wade, you're kind of bogged down. You can't walk, or run; you're not swimming; you're kind of fighting the water all the time. ~ Gail Giles
Water Shortage quotes by Gail Giles
Don't limit yourself to drop of water, come drown in the deepness of heart and become the ocean. ~ Harsh Ranga Neo
Water Shortage quotes by Harsh Ranga Neo
The confrontation lasted about five minutes; then the display died out as quickly as it had begun, and everyone drank his fill of the muddy water. Honor had been satisfied; each group had staked its claim to its own territory. ~ Arthur C. Clarke
Water Shortage quotes by Arthur C. Clarke
The flies buzzed in answer above the dirty water standing in the washbasin, in which floated a solitary black hair. It, too, was like life
and as meaningless. ~ Stella Gibbons
Water Shortage quotes by Stella Gibbons
We have today to learn to get back into accord with the wisdom of nature and realize again our brotherhood with the animals and with the water and the sea. To say that the divinity informs the world and all things is condemned as pantheism. But pantheism is a misleading word. It suggests that a personal god is supposed to inhabit the world, but that is not the idea at all. The idea is trans-theological. It is of an undefinable, inconceivable mystery, thought of as a power, that is the source and end and supporting ground of all life and being. ~ Joseph Campbell
Water Shortage quotes by Joseph Campbell
Your tongue is moving my King but the words are not making their way to my ears ~ Dora Okeyo
Water Shortage quotes by Dora Okeyo
Everything is valuable under the right conditions. To a man dying of thirst, water be more precious than gold. To a drowning man, water be of little worth and great trouble. ~ Terry Goodkind
Water Shortage quotes by Terry Goodkind
Water a farre off quencheth not fire. ~ George Herbert
Water Shortage quotes by George Herbert
Jealously would kill you from inside, if you water the plant of jealousy with anger instead of hard work ~ Paulo Coelho
Water Shortage quotes by Paulo Coelho
If all your life means to you is water running over rocks, then photograph it, but I want to create something that would not have existed without me. ~ Minor White
Water Shortage quotes by Minor White
It is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Water Shortage quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
Percy Bysshe (the only poet named for the sound of a match hitting water), ~ Bill Bryson
Water Shortage quotes by Bill Bryson
Today, about 40 percent of America's carbon pollution comes from our power plants. There are no federal limits to the amount those plants can pump into the air. None. We limit the amount of toxic chemicals like mercury, and sulfur, and arsenic in our air and water, but power plants can dump as much carbon pollution into our atmosphere as they want. It's not smart, it's not right, it's not safe, and I determined it needs to stop. ~ Barack Obama
Water Shortage quotes by Barack Obama
The fish don't need to know why they're in the water. ~ Marty Rubin
Water Shortage quotes by Marty Rubin
Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that's the inheritor of our fear. Let him not love the earth too deeply. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be too moved when the birds of his land are singing. Nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him if he gives too much. ~ Alan Paton
Water Shortage quotes by Alan Paton
There is no room for the impurities of literature in an essay ... the essay must be pure
pure like water or pure like wine, but pure from dullness, deadness, and deposits of extraneous matter. ~ Virginia Woolf
Water Shortage quotes by Virginia Woolf
Whatever one of us asked the other to do - it was assumed the asker would weigh all the consequences - the other would do. Thus one might wake the other in the night and ask for a cup of water; and the other would peacefully (and sleepily) fetch it. We, in fact, defined courtesy as 'a cup of water in the night'. And we considered it a very great courtesy to ask for the cup as well as to fetch it. ~ Sheldon Vanauken
Water Shortage quotes by Sheldon Vanauken
The rain began the next morning and showed no signs of letting up. Mud sucked at Arin's boots as he helped Kestrel ready her horse. The rain intensified, dropping down like little stones.
Arin squinted up at it. "Terrible day to ride." He hated to see her go.
She wiped water from her face, glancing over at Risha, whose head was tipped back under the rain, eyes closed. "Not for everyone," Kestrel said, "and the rain will make it less likely a Valorian scout will notice that a small band is riding from camp."
True. The middle distance was a gray fog. Arin raked dripping hair off his brow. He tried to be all right. His nerves sparked the way a blade does against the grinder.
Kestrel touched his cheek. "The rain is good for us."
"Come here."
She tasted like the rain: cool and fresh and sweet. Her mouth warmed as he kissed her. He felt the way her clothes stuck to her skin. He forgot himself.
She murmured, "I have something for you."
"You needn't give me anything."
"It's not a gift. It's for you to keep safe until I return." She placed a speckled yellow feather on his palm.
The rain fell in a veil behind her. ~ Marie Rutkoski
Water Shortage quotes by Marie Rutkoski
Nothing but water
an ever-moving swell; nothing but waves, swiftly forming and instantly dying; nothing but depths; dark, fathomless depths; and nothing but sky, scudding white clouds, puffy and intangible. This was the living world, nothing besides, nothing else but sea. No winter or summer, no hills or ravines. ~ Chingiz Aitmatov
Water Shortage quotes by Chingiz Aitmatov
It's possible to live without the Web. It's not possible to live without water. But if you've got water, then the difference between somebody who is connected to the Web and is part of the information society, and someone who (is not) is growing bigger and bigger. ~ Tim Berners-Lee
Water Shortage quotes by Tim Berners-Lee
I always challenge myself. I get out in deep water and I always try to get back. But I get hung up. The audience never knows, but that's when I smile the most, when I show the most ivory. ~ Earl Hines
Water Shortage quotes by Earl Hines
There are very few sports where you can find that tranquility. Some people find that in golf, but when you're in the water it's such a difference from the golf course or the basketball court. That's what makes surfing unique over any other sport. ~ Troy Polamalu
Water Shortage quotes by Troy Polamalu
Those who make candles will find it a great improvement to steep the wicks in lime-water and saltpetre, and dry them. The flame is clearer, and the tallow will not 'run. ~ Lydia Maria Francis Child
Water Shortage quotes by Lydia Maria Francis Child
When I get all focused on songwriting, I get into all the marketing and promotion that we do to make it happen. Then the right song comes along and blows it all out of the water. The right song will do it for you every time. ~ Ronnie Dunn
Water Shortage quotes by Ronnie Dunn
Heat some water. Then add in beets, its main ingredient. You can add a variety of vegetables to the mix. There is no one recipe for Borscht. Some even add meat. I am not a fan of the meat variety. With the ingredients added, let it simmer for an hour. Like the Schav, it is almost mandatory to add sour cream to the serving at the diner's table. As you can see this ~ Sallie Stone
Water Shortage quotes by Sallie Stone
I can't stand THE DEPRESSED. It's like a job, it's the only thing they work hard at. Oh good my depression is very well today. Oh good today I have another mysterious symptom and I will have another one tomorrow. The DEPRESSED are full of hate and bile and when they are not having panic attacks they are writing poems. What do they want their poems to DO? Their depression is the most VITAL thing about them. Their poems are threats. ALWAYS threats. There is no sensation that is keener or more active than their pain. They give nothing back except their depression. It's just another utility. Like electricity and water and gas and democracy. They could not survive without it. ~ Deborah Levy
Water Shortage quotes by Deborah Levy
The witch who claims to forbear her magick for fear of causing the next Indian tsunami is really saying that she is powerful enough to kill thousands of innocent strangers when all she meant to do was water her mugwort. She can't be challenged to produce evidence of this, because doing could provoke earthquakes and Africanized bee attacks. ~ Thomm Quackenbush
Water Shortage quotes by Thomm Quackenbush
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. ~ John Lubbock
