The ill and unfit choice of words wonderfully obstructs the understanding. ~ Francis Bacon
Understanding Choices quotes by Francis Bacon
But here is the thing about anger: People hold onto it because letting go means dealing with pain. It is a coping strategy that seems to show strength and confidence, but in reality it shows how much you care about someone's actions, which leads to this question: Why is this person's respect so important to you? ~ Shannon L. Alder
Understanding Choices quotes by Shannon L. Alder
Unbelief is as much of a choice as belief is. What makes it in many ways more appealing is that whereas to believe in something requires some measure of understanding and effort, not to believe doesn't require much of anything at all. ~ Frederick Buechner
Understanding Choices quotes by Frederick Buechner
Contrary to what has been written and said about me, I do not harbor hate in my heart for Lucifer. In fact, it is the opposite. I believe that the problems between us were caused because I loved him too much. He was unable to handle the sheer magnitude of it. With that and the free will I instilled within him, he made choices that in the end tore us apart. ~ Melyssa Winchester
Understanding Choices quotes by Melyssa Winchester
Nature is never so admired as when she is understood. ~ Bernard Le Bovier De Fontenelle
Understanding Choices quotes by Bernard Le Bovier De Fontenelle
It is the understanding that sees and hears; it is the understanding that improves everything, that orders everything, and that acts, rules, and reigns. ~ Epicharmus Of Kos
Understanding Choices quotes by Epicharmus Of Kos
In the meantime, it appears that the young souls are in charge. One could ask how this could happen, what with all of the guidance from wise souls in Spirit helping us to choose our earthly lives and bodies. One should not underestimate Free Will. We can choose and, surprisingly enough on the Spirit plane, some choices come out of enthusiasm and impulsiveness and not from wisdom and deliberation. ~ Stephen Poplin
Understanding Choices quotes by Stephen Poplin
But all the feelings that evoke in us the joy or the misfortune of a real person are only produced in us through the intermediary of an image of that joy or that misfortune; the ingeniousness of the first novelist was in understanding that, in the apparatus of our emotions, since the image is the only essential element, the simplification which consists of purely and simply suppressing the factual characters is a definitive improvement. ~ Marcel Proust
Understanding Choices quotes by Marcel Proust
He who seeks to approach his own buried past must conduct himself like a man digging ... He must not be afraid to return again and again to the same matter; to scatter it as one scatters earth, to turn it over as one turns over soil. For the matter itself is only a deposit, a stratum, which yields only to the most meticulous examination what constitutes the real treasure hidden within the earth: the images, severed from all earlier associations, that stand -like precious fragments or torsos in a collector's gallery -in the prosaic rooms of our later understanding. ~ Walter Benjamin
Understanding Choices quotes by Walter Benjamin
Communities don't think, don't believe, don't want, don't have needs, don't have interests and don't make decisions. Only individuals have minds that generate desires and needs - and only individuals can make choices and decisions. ~ Harry Browne
Understanding Choices quotes by Harry Browne
A classic yields significantly different meanings when read in different circumstances and moods; on a larger scale, a classic conveys wholly different worlds when read in different times of life, at different stages of experience, feeling, and understanding of life. Classics may be interesting and even entertaining, but people always find they are not like books used for diversion, which give up all of their content at once; the classics seem to grow wiser as we grow wiser, more useful the more we use them. ~ Sun Tzu
Understanding Choices quotes by Sun Tzu
I do think that an understanding of contemporary work in the cognitive sciences has a profound effect on how one views the workings of the mind. It doesn't work the way we pretheoretically think it does. Such an understanding, of course, should have a large effect on one's views in philosophy of mind, but also in epistemology. ~ Hilary Kornblith
Understanding Choices quotes by Hilary Kornblith
The life-converting experience is not the discovery that I have choices to make that determine the way I live out my existence, but the awareness that my that my existence itself is not in the center. Once I 'know' God, that is, once I experience God's love as the love in which all my human experiences are anchored, I can desire only one thing: to be in that love. ~ Henri Nouwen
Understanding Choices quotes by Henri Nouwen
Surely we can only come to understand each other's beliefs by means of direct encounter and open, honest discussion. In the meantime, many free churches invite all believers in Jesus Christ to the Table for the sake of true spiritual unity that transcends intellectual differences of interpretation. Withholding sacramental sharing on the basis of disagreement about the nature of the Lord's Supper seems odd to us. What two people think exactly alike about the act? We are not offended by Catholics' closed Communion, but we find it odd and exclusive. It places intellectual understanding above fellowship among disciples of Jesus Christ. ~ Roger E. Olson
Understanding Choices quotes by Roger E. Olson
During our glorious year of 1974–5, while I was dithering over gravitational waves, and Stephen was leading our merged group in black hole research, Stephen himself had an insight even more radical than his discovery of Hawking radiation. He gave a compelling, almost airtight proof that, when a black hole forms and then subsequently evaporates away completely by emitting radiation, the information that went into the black hole cannot come back out. Information is inevitably lost.
This is radical because the laws of quantum physics insist unequivocally that information can never get totally lost. So, if Stephen was right, black holes violate a most fundamental quantum mechanical law.
How could this be? The black hole's evaporation is governed by the combined laws of quantum mechanics and general relativity - the ill-understood laws of quantum gravity; and so, Stephen reasoned, the fiery marriage of relativity and quantum physics must lead to information destruction.
The great majority of theoretical physicists find this conclusion abhorrent. They are highly sceptical. And so, for forty-four years they have struggled with this so-called information-loss paradox. It is a struggle well worth the effort and anguish that have gone into it, since this paradox is a powerful key for understanding the quantum gravity laws. Stephen himself, in 2003, found a way that information might escape during the hole's evaporation, but that did not quell theorists' struggles. Stephe ~ Stephen Hawking
Understanding Choices quotes by Stephen Hawking
Rather than trying to master nature we should start with the basics of trying to understand nature, cooperate with nature. ~ Bryant McGill
Understanding Choices quotes by Bryant McGill
Our nature gives us purpose, to reflect and act upon, responsibly by choice. ~ Xavier Rosseel
Understanding Choices quotes by Xavier Rosseel
Hugging a tree, understanding the language of trees and sending loving kindness to trees will make you rich. Because it connects you to the source - the source of abundance. ~ Amit Ray
Understanding Choices quotes by Amit Ray
But if neither sadness or rage could unite us, I didn't know what could - the more I wanted to identify with her, the more I identified with myself; and the more I tried to understand her, the less, necessarily, I succeeded: the failure of an intelligent mind to grasp feeblemindedness was dark and deep, no less than the failure of a feeble mind to grasp intelligence, because intelligence got its shape by not understanding the thing it could never be. ~ Jean-Christophe Valtat
Understanding Choices quotes by Jean-Christophe Valtat
Jesus, you love my children more than I ever will, so by faith I give them and their choices to you. Please infuse your Holy Spirit-guided thoughts into every decision they make, and bless them for each one they make in obedience to you. When they don't obey you, Lord, then I relinquish them to you once again to steer them back to you in your way and in your time. Amen. ~ Michele Howe
Understanding Choices quotes by Michele Howe
The choices we make, dictate the lives we lead ~ William Shakespeare
Understanding Choices quotes by William Shakespeare
You realize as a director that when you are cutting a film, you want to have alternatives. You need color and choices. You don't want four takes that are identical. ~ Dolph Lundgren
Understanding Choices quotes by Dolph Lundgren
With non-professionals, there's a lot of time you have to allocate to getting what you want with them, but also you cast based on who they are, to bring out their real personalities. So it's less about working on character and more about just getting them comfortable in front of the camera to be themselves, and understanding the process. ~ Charles Burnett
Understanding Choices quotes by Charles Burnett
Women's liberation and empowerment are terms feminists started using to talk about casting off the limitations imposed upon women and demanding equality. We have perverted these words. The freedom to be sexually provocative or promiscuous is not enough freedom; it is not the only 'women's issue' worth paying attention to. And we are not even free in the sexual arena. We have simply adopted a new norm, a new role to play: lusty, busty exhibitionist. There are other choices. If we are really going to be sexually liberated, we need to make room for a range of options as wide as the variety of human desire. We need to allow ourselves the freedom to figure out what we internally want from sex instead of mimicking whatever popular culture holds up to us as sexy. That would be liberation. ~ Ariel Levy
Understanding Choices quotes by Ariel Levy
We look for the sermon in the suicide, for the social or moral lesson in the murder of five. We interpret what we see, select the most workable of the multiple choices. ~ Joan Didion
Understanding Choices quotes by Joan Didion
Mind your mind, mind your time and mind your life! Life is just once and the real certainty or uncertainty that can make you lose it is always uncertain; until you understand this well, you shall never neither understand how well to live your life each moment of time and leave indelible footprints, big or small, that shall please God nor shall you ever know how well to live and leave noble and indelible footprints worth not just talking about, but emulating. Mind your mind, mind your time and mind your life! ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Understanding Choices quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Growing old does not make us any better at loving one another or understanding the meaning of life or death. Nor does knowledge come with the passage of time. ~ Shin Kyung-sook
Understanding Choices quotes by Shin Kyung-sook
These questions are punctuated by other questions, as diverse as "Will I ever do time?" and "Did this girl have a trusting heart?" The smell of meat and blood clouds up the condo until I don't notice it anymore. And later my macabre joy sours and I'm weeping for myself, unable to find solace in any of this, crying out, sobbing "I just want to be loved," cursing the earth and everything I have been taught: principles, distinctions, choices, morals, compromises, knowledge, unity, prayer - all of it was wrong, without any final purpose. All it came down to was: die or adapt. I imagine my own vacant face, the disembodied voice coming from its mouth: These are terrible times. Maggots already writhe across the human sausage, the drool pouring from my lips dribbles over them, and still I can't tell if I'm cooking any of this correctly, because I'm crying too hard and I have never really cooked anything before. ~ Bret Easton Ellis
Understanding Choices quotes by Bret Easton Ellis
Jema quaffed at his natural understanding. ~ J.R. Kearney
Understanding Choices quotes by J.R. Kearney
While you might think the choices that leave no regrets behind are the minimal ones and the casual ones and the safe ones, I believe the opposite is true. Regret happens when we are still left with "what if." Regret is the result of leaving a story within you still untold, a song inside of you never sung, a touch unique to your personhood that never was felt by another. When you lay everything on the line because you believe that much that the life you have been given is the utmost calling to be answered, you don't regret it. ~ Stephen Lovegrove
Understanding Choices quotes by Stephen Lovegrove
Pity the man who has a favorite restaurant, but not a favorite author. He's picked out a favorite place to feed his body, but he doesn't have a favorite place to feed his mind! ~ Jim Rohn
Understanding Choices quotes by Jim Rohn
Your career, interests and relationships are important, but they are only important insofar as they lead you toward a deeper understanding of yourself. Otherwise, they are irrelevant. ~ A.H. Almaas
Understanding Choices quotes by A.H. Almaas
you create your own happiness by the choices you make. If you rely completely on others, you'll never have it, at least not in the true sense of happiness. ~ Florence Osmund
Understanding Choices quotes by Florence Osmund
He did not really mind that none of the delegates had spoken to him before leaving. But he was crushed by his failure to get them to recognize what he had long known: that without power, a people must use cunning and guile. Or were cunning and guile, based on superior understanding of a situation, themselves power? Certainly, most black people knew and used this art to survive in their everyday contacts with white people. It was only civil rights professionals who confused integrity with foolhardiness. "Faith ~ Sheree Thomas
Understanding Choices quotes by Sheree Thomas
If design is a problem-solving discipline, then great design must start with a thorough understanding of the problem to be solved - which is best found in a great design brief. ~ Peter L. Phillips
Understanding Choices quotes by Peter L. Phillips
And it doesn't matter to me whether you're running a coffee shop or you're an intellectual or you're in business or flying hot air balloons. People who can spread ideas, regardless of what those ideas are, win. But consumers, they got way more choices than they used to and way less time. ~ Seth Godin
Understanding Choices quotes by Seth Godin
The writer should have a comprehensive outlook. He should aim at a holistic understanding of the prevailing social, political and economic conditions.

He should evaluate all factors in a balanced way. To take a selective view will be erroneous. A realistic approach becomes necessary. This requires healthy literary criticism and exchange of views.

A writer should necessarily venture into his enterprise by touching on a single issue. But then he should relate it to other socially relevant issues. This is what we call the socio-spiritual approach.

You may begin your work dwelling upon the problems of an individual, but then as a writer you should be able to view it as part of the larger social reality. ~ Jayakanthan
