In the back of your car I feel like I have traveled nowhere. ~ Sara Quin
Travel Nowhere quotes by Sara Quin
... if we walk far but are angry as we journey, we travel nowhere. If we hold grudges as we scale mountains, our view remains the same. ~ Wendelin Van Draanen
Travel Nowhere quotes by Wendelin Van Draanen
The universe constantly and obediently answers to our conceptions; whether we travel fast or slow, the track is laid for us. Let us spend our lives in conceiving then. The poet or the artist never yet had so fair and noble a design but some of his posterity at least could accomplish it. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Travel Nowhere quotes by Henry David Thoreau
It was as simply as that. And as complex. ~ Svetlana Meritt
Travel Nowhere quotes by Svetlana Meritt
Your favorite occupation? Travel in contested territory. Hard-working writing and reading when safely home, in the knowledge that an amusing friend is later coming to dinner. ~ Christopher Hitchens
Travel Nowhere quotes by Christopher Hitchens
Life is about the adventures you take and the memories you make. So travel often and live life with open eyes and an open heart. ~ Katie Grissom
Travel Nowhere quotes by Katie Grissom
There is a whole genre of funny travel writers - that's very popular. There's Bill Bryson and people who follow that route and sell travel writing through making people laugh. It's a very difficult group to take. The line between comedy and mockery is sometimes a bit thin. ~ John Gimlette
Travel Nowhere quotes by John Gimlette
Renga with Katie

There's no better place
Than in each moment with you
Traveling through life

Regardless of place and time,
Or seasons and location,

I never look back
To a time without you there
And wish to return

We are each other's constant
In an ever changing world

On a pilgrimage
To no place particular,
Destinationless

Each moment we're arriving
At another sacred place

Appreciating,
Remembering life before
You opened my eyes

It's both vivid and soothing
Like I'd never had vision

Now I see the way,
As we travel together
The fog is lifted

Each sight reveals each other
Each step reveals another ~ Eric Overby
Travel Nowhere quotes by Eric Overby
The new French theme park based on Napoleon is named Napoleon's Bivouac, and will honor Napoleon with rides, battle reenactments, and the brutal March on Moscow ride. That's a walk-in freezer you stand in for 18 months while you try to eat a dead horse. ~ Peter Sagal
Travel Nowhere quotes by Peter Sagal
I'm particularly inspired by pristine locations. I enjoy working in areas where one can travel for miles without seeing any human influence. ~ Matt Smith
Travel Nowhere quotes by Matt Smith
If we're trying to protect the American public, we should not put in place a travel ban. ~ Barack Obama
Travel Nowhere quotes by Barack Obama
So I can understand the mad passion for travel books and their deceptiveness. They create the illusion of something which no longer exists but still should exist, if we were to have any hope of avoiding the overwhelming conclusion that the history of the past twenty thousand years is irrevocable. ~ Claude Levi-Strauss
Travel Nowhere quotes by Claude Levi-Strauss
As a caretaker, you play a unique role. You show your love to your spouse; you constantly affirm that things are improving; you work out the details of appointments and travel; you answer the countless questions of "How is she doing?"; you put on a determined front when the doctor gives you bad news; you take care of the children; you become the primary housekeeper; and you try to fulfill your obligations at work. Outside these responsibilities, you have a lot of free time! I ~ Susan Parris
Travel Nowhere quotes by Susan Parris
It reflects like an optical instrument and responds to changes in the weather so sensitively that it seems like a part of the sky rather than of the land. And along with all that, Baikal is distinctly Asiatic: if a camel caravan could somehow transport Baikal across Siberia to Europe, and curious buyers unwrapped it in a marketplace, none would mistake it for a lake from around there. ~ Ian Frazier
Travel Nowhere quotes by Ian Frazier
Most travel, and certainly the rewarding kind, involves depending on the kindness of strangers, putting yourself into the hands of people you don't know and trusting them with your life. ~ Paul Theroux
Travel Nowhere quotes by Paul Theroux
There is a saying, if any stranger enquire of the first met of Maan, were it even a child, "Who is here the sheykh?" he would answer him "I am he. ~ Charles M. Doughty
Travel Nowhere quotes by Charles M. Doughty
Henry Fielding, a highly successful satiric dramatist until the introduction of censorship in 1737, began his novel-writing career with Shamela, a pastiche of Pamela, which humorously attacked the hypocritical morality which that novel displayed. Joseph Andrews (1742) was also intended as a kind of parody of Richardson; but Fielding found that his novels were taking on a moral life of their own, and he developed his own highly personal narrative style - humorous and ironic, with an omniscient narrative presence controlling the lives and destinies of his characters.

Fielding focuses more on male characters and manners than Richardson. In doing so, he creates a new kind of hero in his novels. Joseph Andrews is chaste, while Tom Jones in Tom Jones (1749) is quite the opposite. Tom is the model of the young foundling enjoying his freedom (to travel, to have relationships with women, to enjoy sensual experience) until his true origins are discovered. When he matures, he assumes his social responsibilities and marries the woman he has 'always' loved, who has, of course, like a mediaeval crusader's beloved, been waiting faithfully for him. Both of these heroes are types, representatives of their sex.

There is a picaresque journey from innocence to experience, from freedom to responsibility. It is a rewriting of male roles to suit the society of the time. The hero no longer makes a crusade to the Holy Land, but the crusade is a personal one, with chivalry learne ~ Ronald Carter
Travel Nowhere quotes by Ronald Carter
I travel a lot on foreign policy, as you know. I'm in Europe a lot. I travelled over a million miles as vice president. They didn't do stimulus. Look where they are. Come on. I mean, this is like, I just get so frustrated. Like come on. ~ Joe Biden
Travel Nowhere quotes by Joe Biden
There is a part of me that still wants to go out and grab a backpack and unplug - not take a cellphone or even a camera and just get out there and experience the world and travel. I have yet to do that, but someday I hope. ~ Emilio Estevez
Travel Nowhere quotes by Emilio Estevez
I do media every day I tour and the travel itself is a bit testing, so I don't get to do much gregarious activity when I'm on the road, but I do enough barbequing and enough hanging out and training with enough law enforcement and military to keep me bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and to make sure my guitar solos every night breath fire. ~ Ted Nugent
Travel Nowhere quotes by Ted Nugent
When we really understand time travel we may find out it's as common as dirt and has been going on all around us is all kinds of physical processes. ~ Terence McKenna
Travel Nowhere quotes by Terence McKenna
....The important thing is not where we die but how we live. Being native to a place is a labor of love and a life's work. It means stitching your life to that of a place with a thread spun from mindfulness, attentiveness, husbandry, pilgrimage, and witness. Stories knit these components of practice together. Flung outward, they clothe our relationships; flung inward, they map the soul. Stories enable us to enter and dwell attentively in a place; they enable us to travel and return, then eventually to leave for good. We need stories to stay alive spiritually: without them we would all turn into hungry ghosts. Stories are the only things we can take with us out of this world. They are the wings that bear us up or the chains that drag us down. In the end, it is stories that enable us to die. ~ John Tallmadge
Travel Nowhere quotes by John Tallmadge
Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind. ~ Anthony Bourdain
Travel Nowhere quotes by Anthony Bourdain
I travel in so many different ways; I travel high, I rough it ... it all depends on who I travel with. ~ Diane Von Furstenberg
Travel Nowhere quotes by Diane Von Furstenberg
There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Travel Nowhere quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
I do hope to travel," he said. "But not alone." She swallowed. "Oh?" Henry pulled something from his coat pocket and unfolded it. "Here is my itinerary." He held the piece of paper toward her. "What do you think of it?" Emma accepted the single sheet and glanced at the list of Italian destinations - cities, churches, ruins, palazzos, and pensiones - preparing to offer some polite comment. Instead she stared. She turned to her aunt's desk, opened her notebook, and compared it to their own Italian itinerary - the one they'd had to discard. Except for the handwriting, the lists were identical. She glanced up at him, lips parted in astonishment. He stepped nearer. "I had hoped to travel with my wife, but she is, as yet, unavailable." Her neck heated. "Oh . . . why?" Henry dipped his chin and raised his brows. "Because she has yet to agree to marry me. ~ Julie Klassen
Travel Nowhere quotes by Julie Klassen
I've walked these streets, in a carnival of sights to see. All the cheap thrill seekers, the vendors & the dealers, they crowded around me. Have I been blind? Have I been lost, inside myself and my own mind? Hypnotized, mesmerized, by what my eyes have seen? I've walked these streets, in a spectacle of wealth & poverty. In the diamond market, the scarlet welcome carpet that they just rolled out for me. ~ Natalie Merchant
Travel Nowhere quotes by Natalie Merchant
When you travel and go sight seeing you imagine seeing castles, lakes etc but you would not normally have a cemetery at the top of your to see list! Cimitero Monumentale is an old cemetery and, in a way, can also be considered a museum. Many people think of it as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world, because of its monumental mausoleums, impressing sculptures and tombs. ~ Blether Travel Guides
Travel Nowhere quotes by Blether Travel Guides
Human migration is an important part of our ancestral story. The places we live shape us, the places we leave behind forges our history, and the places we might travel to becomes our mysterious future. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Travel Nowhere quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
We must go beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths and untrodden depths of the wilderness and travel and explore and tell the world the glories of our journey; ~ John Hope Franklin
Travel Nowhere quotes by John Hope Franklin
Mothers got a hard road to travel, believe me. ~ John Kennedy Toole
Travel Nowhere quotes by John Kennedy Toole
The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to. ~ Alain De Botton
Travel Nowhere quotes by Alain De Botton
Give your mind a chance to travel through foreign languages. ~ Neil Simon
Travel Nowhere quotes by Neil Simon
He who would travel happily must travel light". ~Antoine de St. Exupery ~ Bob Wells
Travel Nowhere quotes by Bob Wells
Wanderlust, the very strong or irresistible impulse to travel, is adopted untouched from the German, presumably because it couldn't be improved upon. Workarounds like the French passion du voyage don't quite capture the same meaning. Wanderlust is not a passion for travel exactly; it's something more animal and more fickle - something more like lust. We don't lust after many things in life. We don't need words like worklust or homemakinglust. ~ Elisabeth Eaves
Travel Nowhere quotes by Elisabeth Eaves
Whatever else history may say about me when I'm gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty's lamp guiding your steps and opportunity's arm steadying your way. ~ Ronald Reagan
Travel Nowhere quotes by Ronald Reagan
When we travel, we are like a film at the moment of exposure; it is memory that will develop it. ~ Max Frisch
Travel Nowhere quotes by Max Frisch
From wherever you are, you can go anywhere you want to go if you pick the right roads to travel. ~ Zig Ziglar
Travel Nowhere quotes by Zig Ziglar
We have the illusion of choice because no matter what we choose, the game never changes. The wheels always keep moving in the direction that suits the ones who are designing the wheels. If they don't want that wheel to travel somewhere, they make damn sure it's designed to that it doesn't roll there. ~ Laurel Dewey
Travel Nowhere quotes by Laurel Dewey
If you are a LGBTQ person, if you're going to travel somewhere, you do need to be mindful of where you're going, particularly depending on the country. That's just something unfortunately you need to think about. It's something you need to think about if you're a woman, it's something to think about particularly if you're a trans woman, and the problems a lot of trans people face when they're travelling. ~ Ellen Page
Travel Nowhere quotes by Ellen Page
Expectation kills. Just go with the flow, you might be surprised when something better comes along in an unexpected way. ~ Joyram Shaw
Travel Nowhere quotes by Joyram Shaw
This for me was home, and for the visitors, Kashmir". ~ Irfan Nabi
Travel Nowhere quotes by Irfan Nabi
Karen, her elbows folded on the deck-rail, wanted to share with someone the pleasure in being alone: this is the paradox of any happy solitude. She had never landed at Cork, so this hill and that hill beyond were as unexpected as pictures at which you say "Oh look!" Nobody was beside her to share the moment, which would have been imperfect with anyone else there. ~ Elizabeth Bowen
Travel Nowhere quotes by Elizabeth Bowen
With air travel there is no distance, there is only time. ~ Judith M Bardwick
Travel Nowhere quotes by Judith M Bardwick
David Attenborough has said that Bali is the most beautiful place in the world, but he must have been there longer than we were, and seen different bits, because most of what we saw in the couple of days we were there sorting out our travel arrangements was awful. It was just the tourist area, i.e., that part of Bali which has been made almost exactly the same as everywhere else in the world for the sake of people who have come all this way to see Bali. ~ Douglas Adams
Travel Nowhere quotes by Douglas Adams
As we travel around Britain, I am convinced most of us cannot really appreciate what we are seeing. We take too much for granted, because it is all so familiar. ~ Martin Parr
Travel Nowhere quotes by Martin Parr
After I returned from that morning, our telephone rang incessantly with requests for interviews and photos. By midafternoon I was exhausted. At four o'clock I was reaching to disconnect the telephone when I answered one last call.
Thank heavens I did! I heard, "Mrs. Robertson? This is Ian Hamilton from the Lord Chamberlain's office."
I held my breath and prayed, "Please let this be the palace."
He continued: "We would like to invite you, your husband, and your son to attend the funeral of the Princess of Wales on Saturday in London." I was speechless. I could feel my heart thumping. I never thought to ask him how our name had been selected. Later, in London, I learned that the Spencer family had given instructions to review Diana's personal records, including her Christmas-card list, with the help of her closest aides.
"Yes, of course, we absolutely want to attend," I answered without hesitating. "Thank you so much. I can't tell you how much this means to me. I'll have to make travel plans on very short notice, so may I call you back to confirm? How late can I reach you?"
He replied, "Anytime. We're working twenty-four hours a day. But I need your reply within an hour." I jotted down his telephone and fax numbers and set about making travel arrangements.
My husband had just walked in the door, so we were able to discuss who would travel and how. Both children's passports had expired and could not be renewed in less than a day from the suburbs wh ~ Mary Robertson
