Many of the silliest ambiguities in the Internet memes come from newspaper headlines and magazine tag lines precisely because they have been stripped of all punctuation. Two of my favorites are MAN EATING PIRANHA MISTAKENLY SOLD AS PET FISH and RACHAEL RAY FINDS INSPIRATION IN COOKING HER FAMILY AND HER DOG. The first is missing the hyphen that bolts together the pieces of the compound word that was supposed to remind readers of the problem with piranhas, man-eating. The second is missing the commas that delimit the phrases making up the list of inspirations: cooking, her family, and her dog. ~ Steven Pinker
Silliest quotes by Steven Pinker
Your good friends can write a book on you; but Your best friends can create an embarrassing full fledged 3 hours movie on you, with silliest jingles and animation made ever. ~ Vikrmn
Silliest quotes by Vikrmn
The main reason to be opposed to political control of smoking is to keep power -even the smallest and silliest kind of power - out of the hands of ... members of a dangerous class -the class that knows what's good for us better than we do. ~ P. J. O'Rourke
Silliest quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she'll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. He whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one's life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can. ~ C.S. Lewis
Silliest quotes by C.S. Lewis
I have discovered that our great favorite, Miss Austen, is my countrywoman ... with whom mamma before her marriage was acquainted. Mamma says that she was then the prettiest, silliest, most affected, husband-hunting butterfly she ever remembers ... ~ Mary Russell Mitford
Silliest quotes by Mary Russell Mitford
The fact that any person or institution, however well respected, praises or adopts something never constitutes proof of anything. It might merely illustrate that even well-educated people or powerful institutions can sometimes commit the silliest and most obvious of mistakes. ~ Edzard Ernst
Silliest quotes by Edzard Ernst
There has appeared in our time a particular class of books and articles which I sincerely and solemnly think may be called the silliest ever known among men ... these things are about nothing; they are about what is called Success. On every bookstall, in every magazine, you may find works telling people how to succeed. They are books showing men how to succeed in everything; they are written by men who cannot even succeed in writing books. To begin with, of course, there is no such thing as Success. Or, if you like to put it so, there is nothing that is not successful. That a thing is successful merely means that it is; a millionaire is successful in being a millionaire and a donkey in being a donkey ... I really think that the people who buy these books (if any people do buy them) have a moral, if not a legal, right to ask for their money back. ~ G.K. Chesterton
Silliest quotes by G.K. Chesterton
Memory, in my opinion, is a complete noodle. It hangs on the silliest things but forgets the stuff that really matters. ~ Ellen Potter
Silliest quotes by Ellen Potter
It is often stated that of all the theories proposed in this century, the silliest is quantum theory. In fact, some say that the only thing that quantum theory has going for it is that it is unquestionably correct. ~ Michio Kaku
Silliest quotes by Michio Kaku
But even now, with the crates piled high in the hall, what I see most plainly about the books is that they are beautiful. They take up room? Of course they do: they are an environment; atoms, not bits. My books are not dead weight, they are live weight - matter infused by spirit, every one of them, even the silliest. They do not block the horizon; they draw it. They free me from the prison of contemporaneity: one should not live only in one's own time. A wall of books is a wall of windows. ~ Leon Wieseltier
Silliest quotes by Leon Wieseltier
Then there's the silliest of all cliches, 'on a pace for' 'Pace' is a figment of the mathematician's imagination. ~ Leonard Koppett
Silliest quotes by Leonard Koppett
Improvisation is about finding the best joke or the silliest way to get something across. Improvising conflict is always fun because you can just go for it. ~ Ed Helms
Silliest quotes by Ed Helms
One of the silliest lines ever said in a feature film came from Love Story, the 1970s hit, which immortalized the phrase, "Love means never having to say you're sorry." There are few people who would actually want to share a life with someone who held that concept near and dear. ~ Margaret Kennedy
Silliest quotes by Margaret Kennedy
It was the silliest victory of her entire life. ~ Jennifer Egan
Silliest quotes by Jennifer Egan
It's strange, isn't it, how we can push people away because we want to be near them? Isn't that the silliest thing? ~ Jodi Lynn Anderson
Silliest quotes by Jodi Lynn Anderson
I actually think that 'Bandbox,' by far the silliest of my books, is the best constructed of them. ~ Thomas Mallon
Silliest quotes by Thomas Mallon
I look up and see Raffe watching me. I feel a wave of awkwardness. Raffe grabs me around the waist and lifts me into his arms like in an old-time movie. His arms cradle my back and knees. I reflexively wrap my arms around his neck. For a moment, I'm confused, and the silliest thoughts flood through my head. "Don't let me go," he says. ~ Susan Ee
Silliest quotes by Susan Ee
I started off at the Second City in Chicago ... It's an improvisational theater that ostensibly does social and political satire, but when I was there, we generally didn't. We did character work, and we did just the silliest things we could think of. We weren't all that concerned with, you know, changing the world through mime. ~ Stephen Colbert
Silliest quotes by Stephen Colbert
The Duchess of Omnium did indeed remark to Lady Chiltern that she remembered something of the same kind happening to the same girl soon after her own marriage. As the duchess had now been married a great many years this was unkind; - but it was known that when the Duchess of Omnium did dislike any one, she never scrupled to show it. 'Lord Rufford is about the silliest man of his day,' she said afterwards to the same lady; 'but there is one thing which I do not think even he is silly enough to do. ~ Anthony Trollope
Silliest quotes by Anthony Trollope
The main thing to remember is that making love is at onces the silliest and the most sacred act humans can perform. ~ Patricia Briggs
Silliest quotes by Patricia Briggs
Passion often makes fools of the wisest men and gives the silliest wisdom. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Silliest quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
The silliest things shatter you. A T-shirt discovered behind the washing machine. A toy that rolled under a cabinet in the garage, forgotten until someone drops something and goes to fetch it, and suddenly they're on the concrete floor sobbing into a dusty baseball mitt. ~ Victoria Schwab
Silliest quotes by Victoria Schwab
The suggestion that petroleum might have arisen from some transformation of squashed fish or biological detritus is surely the silliest notion to have been entertained by substantial numbers of persons over an extended period of time. ~ Fred Hoyle
Silliest quotes by Fred Hoyle
I hate set dissertations,
and above all things in the world, 'tis one of the silliest things in one of them, to darken your hypothesis by placing a number of tall, opake words, one before another, in a right line, betwixt your own and your readers conception. ~ Laurence Sterne
Silliest quotes by Laurence Sterne
The celebrity-chef thing, even at its worst, its most annoying, its silliest, its goofiest, its most egregious and cynical, has been a good thing. ~ Anthony Bourdain
Silliest quotes by Anthony Bourdain
The Vagabond Circus was different than all the rest in many ways and the first was it had no clowns. Not a single red, round nose in the whole troupe. Maybe that was the reason that Dave had decided he'd be the silliest ringmaster in all of history. His job was to lead and move the events of the show along but he was less a Master of Ceremony and more a buffer between the jaw dropping acts. ~ Sarah Noffke
Silliest quotes by Sarah Noffke
Well that was the silliest tea party I ever went to! I am never going back there again! ~ Lewis Carroll
Silliest quotes by Lewis Carroll
Worms'-Meat, n. The finished product of which we are the raw material. The contents of the Taj Mahal, the Tombeau Napoleon and the Granitarium. Worms'-meat is usually outlasted by the structure that houses it, but "this too must pass away." Probably the silliest work in which a human being can engage is construction of a tomb for himself. The solemn purpose cannot dignify, but only accentuates by contrast the foreknown futility. ~ Ambrose Bierce
Silliest quotes by Ambrose Bierce
Tweeting? It's one of the silliest things ever. ~ Tom Ford
Silliest quotes by Tom Ford
Out of all the ridiculous religion stories - which are greatly, wonderfully ridiculous - the silliest one I've ever heard is, 'Yeah, there's this big, giant universe, and it's expanding, and it's all going to collapse on itself, and we're all just here, just 'cuz. Just 'cuz.' That to me, is the most ridiculous explanation ever. ~ Trey Parker
Silliest quotes by Trey Parker
There were several things to chew on, but of course the main one was Bingham's alternatives. If he had known Carol Mardus as well as he said he did there were just four candidates. Even if he had killed her himself, he would name the ones she would have been most likely to pick if she hadn't picked him, so it was highly probable that it was one of those four. I stood at a window, and sat at my desk, and stood some more, going over them. Which one? That's the silliest game of solitaire there is, and we all play it, trying to tag a murderer as one of a bunch from what they said and how they looked and acted, unless you can spot something that really opens a crack. I couldn't. ~ Rex Stout
Silliest quotes by Rex Stout
The silliest and most tendentious of baseball writing tries to wrest profundity from the spectacle of grown men hitting a ball with a stick by suggesting linkages between the sport and deep issues of morality, parenthood, history, lost innocence, gentleness, and so on, seemingly ad infinitum . (The effort reeks of silliness because baseball is profound all by itself and needs no excuses; people who don't know this are not fans and are therefore unreachable anyway. ~ Stephen Jay Gould
Silliest quotes by Stephen Jay Gould
THE TWINS WERE eighteen months old now, walking (and standing and staring and screaming and sitting) just like other children more or less their age, and Andy found herself increasingly preoccupied with those baby scrapbooks her brother's wife had sent when they were born. Andy had gotten Janny's to the six-month mark - the last photo was of her sitting up in the baby bath with her fingers in her mouth. Richie's and Michael's - not even birth pictures. Birth pictures of the twins existed, but they reminded Andy more of mug shots than of baby photos, naked in incubators, little skinny limbs and odd heads, no hair except where it shouldn't be, on arms and back, like monkeys. She had stuffed the scrapbooks onto the upper shelf in the closet in Richie and Michael's room, and every time she slid open that door, she would see their spines, white, pink, and blue, the silliest objects in her very modern house, ready to get thrown out. ~ Jane Smiley
Silliest quotes by Jane Smiley
Truth is the silliest thing under the sun. Try to get a living by the Truth and go to the Soup Societies. Heavens! Let any clergyman try to preach the Truth from its very stronghold, the pulpit, and they would ride him out of his church on his own pulpit bannister. ~ Herman Melville
Silliest quotes by Herman Melville
We met a great many other interesting people, among them Lewis Carroll, author of the immortal "Alice"
but he was only interesting to look at, for he was the silliest and shyest full-grown man I have ever met except "Uncle Remus. ~ Mark Twain
Silliest quotes by Mark Twain
Hostility toward Iran may not be the silliest of all American foreign policies - that would probably be the continuing trade embargo of Cuba - but it is undoubtedly the most self-defeating. ~ Stephen Kinzer
Silliest quotes by Stephen Kinzer
This is the silliest thing I've heard since the cat yoga craze a couple of years ago. I went right out and bought a cat yoga instruction book and tiny terry-cloth headband and renamed my girl cat 'Olive Neutered John,' which she didn't think was funny. Cats have no sense of humor. ~ Celia Rivenbark
Silliest quotes by Celia Rivenbark
This is the silliest stuff that ever I heard. ~ William Shakespeare
Silliest quotes by William Shakespeare
I come up with the silliest excuses when it's time to work out. I'll be like, 'Oh no! Now I have to go and find some socks.' ~ Christina Hendricks
Silliest quotes by Christina Hendricks
I would say you might encounter many defeats but you must never be defeated, ever. In fact, it might even be necessary to confront defeat. It might be necessary, to get over it, all the way through it, and go on. I would teach her to laugh a lot. Laugh a lot at the - and the silliest things and be very, very serious. I'd teach her to love life, I can bet you that. ~ Maya Angelou
Silliest quotes by Maya Angelou
The silliest woman can manage a clever man; but it needs a very clever woman to manage a fool. ~ Rudyard Kipling
Silliest quotes by Rudyard Kipling
The silliest people are usually the most tenacious of their opinions. ~ Lady Sarah Pennington
Silliest quotes by Lady Sarah Pennington
Because music, like color, or a cloud, is neither intelligent nor unintelligent - it just is. The chord, the simplest building block for even the tritest, silliest chart song, is a beautiful, perfect, mysterious thing, and when an ill-read, uneducated, uncultured, emotionally illiterate boor puts a couple of them together, he has every chance of creating something wonderful and powerful. All I ask of music is that is sounds good. ~ Nick Hornby
Silliest quotes by Nick Hornby
When the idea came up, (Newman's Own) I said, "Are you crazy? Stick my face on the label of salad dressing?" And then, of course, we got the whole idea of exploitation and how circular it is. Why not, really, go to the fullest length, and the silliest length, in exploiting yourself and turn the proceeds back to the community? ~ Paul Newman
Silliest quotes by Paul Newman
So, in a fit of pique, I came up with the silliest thing I could think of, and handed the book in under the title Bowling for Dragons ~ Patricia C. Wrede
Silliest quotes by Patricia C. Wrede
I used to be a Geico Caveman for live events. I was a corporate mascot. It was the silliest job. It was actually awesome and fun, but it was retarded. ~ Eric Andre
Silliest quotes by Eric Andre
But such is life, the silliest proverbs prove to be true, and when a man thinks, now it's all right, it's not all right by a longshot. Man proposes, God disposes, and there's always that last straw to break the camel's back. ~ Alfred Doblin
Silliest quotes by Alfred Doblin
Religion is just a long competition to see who can design the silliest hat. ~ Gregory David Roberts
Silliest quotes by Gregory David Roberts
Did you ever see so many pee-wee hats, Carl?"
"They're beanies."
"They call them pee-wees in Brooklyn."
"But I'm not in Brooklyn."
"But you're still a Brooklynite."
"I wouldn't want that to get around, Annie."
"You don't mean that, Carl."
"Ah, we might as well call them beanies, Annie."
"Why?"
"When in Rome do as the Romans do."
"Do they call them beanies in Rome?" she asked artlessly.
"This is the silliest conversation ... ~ Betty Smith
Silliest quotes by Betty Smith
The gradations are infinite and the silliest mistake of all is to define people by their material possessions. It's even worse if people define themselves by money. When ~ Rita Mae Brown
Silliest quotes by Rita Mae Brown
Because of the tension and difficulty, I remember trying to do the silliest things when we weren't rolling cameras, anything to lift the spirits. But once on set, it was important to have full concentration. ~ Madeleine Stowe
