Ricardo Montalban is to improvisational acting what Mount Rushmore is to animation. ~ John Cassavetes
Rushmore quotes by John Cassavetes
When I was extremely young and shockingly stupid, I thought you weren't supposed to ever get angry at anybody you cared about (lest you suspect I'm exaggerating the "shockingly stupid" part, I also thought Mount Rushmore was a natural phenomenon). I honestly believed that people who were truly in love would never dream of having a good, old-fashioned, knock-down, drag-out fight. I guess when you're the type of girl who walks around thinking that the wind just sort of sculpted Teddy Roosevelt into the side of a mountain, the concept of a fairy-tale relationship makes total sense. ~ Lisa Kogan
Rushmore quotes by Lisa Kogan
Every single figure on Mount Rushmore was a third party at one time or another, so third parties become major parties, and I think that the Libertarian Party may become my major party. ~ Gary Johnson
Rushmore quotes by Gary Johnson
A blanket could be used to cover Mt. Rushmore. But if you rush more, you're going to rip the blanket in the same way that the very fabric of our democracy is torn. ~ Jarod Kintz
Rushmore quotes by Jarod Kintz
She has slimmed down since the height of impeachment, her thick blow-dried hair as shiny as Russian sable and her creamy cleavage, as historic in its own way as Mount Rushmore, was quite wonderful to behold. ~ Monica Lewinsky
Rushmore quotes by Monica Lewinsky
This is not the "relativism of truth" presented by journalistic takes on postmodernism. Rather, the ironist's cage is a state of irony by way of powerlessness and inactivity: In a world where terrorism makes cultural relativism harder and harder to defend against its critics, marauding international corporations follow fair-trade practices, increasing right-wing demagoguery and violence can't be answered in kind, and the first black U.S. president turns out to lean right of center, the intelligentsia can see no clear path of action. Irony dominates as a "mockery of the promise and fitness of things," to return to the OED definition of irony.

This thinking is appropriate to Wes Anderson, whose central characters are so deeply locked in ironist cages that his films become two-hour documents of them rattling their ironist bars. Without the irony dilemma Roth describes, we would find it hard to explain figures like Max Fischer, Steve Zissou, Royal Tenenbaum, Mr. Fox, and Peter Whitman. I'm not speaking here of specific political beliefs. The characters in question aren't liberals; they may in fact, along with Anderson himself, have no particular political or philosophical interests. But they are certainly involved in a frustrated and digressive kind of irony that suggests a certain political situation. Though intensely self-absorbed and central to their films, Anderson's protagonists are neither heroes nor antiheroes. These characters are not lovable eccentrics. They a ~ Arved Mark Ashby
Rushmore quotes by Arved Mark Ashby

Borges told me historical truth is not what took place; it is what we think took place.
So Billy Shakespeare was queer.
Ronnie was the greatest president in history, right up there on Mount Rushmore.
AIDS is mankind's greatest plague.

Roseanne's parents molested her as an infant.
Menachem Begin and Yasser Arafat deserved their Nobels.

Rushmore quotes by Rabih Alameddine
I'd love to become like Bill Murray, who was so funny on 'Saturday Night Live' and has gone on to do some of the landmark comedies people like. And then to add this whole other phase to his career with 'Lost in Translation' and 'Rushmore.' I always felt to be able to have something similar to that would be great. ~ Will Ferrell
Rushmore quotes by Will Ferrell
My Mt. Rushmore of hero worship would include Ralph Waldo Emerson, Marcus Aurelius, Frank Sinatra and Barry White. ~ Karen Duffy
Rushmore quotes by Karen Duffy
Back in 1948, a monomaniac called Korczak resolved to impose Crazy Horse's likeness upon a mountain. It took 50 years to complete the head, which measures 90ft from crown to chin. By comparison, the four presidents at Mt Rushmore seem modest. ~ Clive Sinclair
Rushmore quotes by Clive Sinclair
Watching movies (Titanic, Flirting with Disaster, Mannequin, Thelma and Louise, Rushmore, The Goonies, She's Having a Baby, it mattered very little) was a kind of prayer: She knew the characters as well as she knew herself, as well as she knew anything there was to know, and she could chart and rechart their movements and secrets and misunderstandings endlessly, reflecting in any number of new permutations on all of it, each time. Again and again. They were acquaintances - people she'd known her whole life and understood well, people incapable of letting her down by changing or disappearing or offering up the unexpected. The League of Their Own tears were purely for catharsis. When she was done she would reemerge, reborn. She would make new mistakes. Or maybe none at all. Okay, ~ Elisa Albert
Rushmore quotes by Elisa Albert
I had about as much chance to do that as I did of backpacking my car to the top of Mount Rushmore. ~ Jim Butcher
Rushmore quotes by Jim Butcher
He would've gotten a bigger change of expression from the Lincoln head at Mount Rushmore. ~ Suzanne Brockmann
Rushmore quotes by Suzanne Brockmann

Rushmore quotes by Andrew Sullivan
He has a chance to make somebody move over on Mount Rushmore. He's working for his place on the coins and the postage stamps. ~ Henry Graff
Rushmore quotes by Henry Graff

Rushmore quotes by Pat Cadigan
Perhaps we should wait until his second term begins before carving Barack Obama's face in Mount Rushmore. Is that asking too much? ~ Ron Fournier
Rushmore quotes by Ron Fournier
If there were a Mount Rushmore of American humor, Terry Southern would be the mountain they'd carve it from ~ Michael O'Donoghue
Rushmore quotes by Michael O'Donoghue
Bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly, and Sean Hannity are the Mount Rushmore of keeping old people angry. ~ Joel McHale
Rushmore quotes by Joel McHale
Presidents in wartime, embattled presidents, unpopular presidents, they all look to Lincoln. He's their patron saint because no president was more embattled or more unpopular than Lincoln was during his presidency. We think he was born on Mount Rushmore. Not so. ~ Richard Norton Smith
Rushmore quotes by Richard Norton Smith
Regarding Ronald Reagan: In point of fact, the image of Ronald Reagan, the man responsible for shaping that decade (the 1980s), should be carved into Mount Rushmore, minted into coins, and emblazoned in a place of honor in every school child's history text as a constant reminder of this great man's contributions to world freedom, national pride, and individual prosperity. With the truth, the term 'Reaganomics' will be used only as a term of endearment and respect. ~ Rush Limbaugh
