How can you have order in a state without religion? For, when one man is dying of hunger near another who is ill of surfeit, he cannot resign himself to this difference unless there is an authority which declares 'God wills it thus.' Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte
Quiet Men quotes by Napoleon Bonaparte
Woody Allen sets are very quiet. Extraordinary sense of power from a man who doesn't do anything except just stand there. ~ F. Murray Abraham
Quiet Men quotes by F. Murray Abraham
Do not underestimate the determination of a quiet man. ~ Iain Duncan Smith
Quiet Men quotes by Iain Duncan Smith
The greatest evil is not done in those sordid dens of evil that Dickens loved to paint ... but is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clear, carpeted, warmed, well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voices. ~ C.S. Lewis
Quiet Men quotes by C.S. Lewis
Atrocity is writ by quiet men in council chambers over crystal glasses of cool water. Strange little men with ashes in their hearts. Sans passion, sans hope… sans everything. Everything but fear. ~ Christopher Ruocchio
Quiet Men quotes by Christopher Ruocchio
In the evening a strange thing happened: the twenty families became one family, the Children were the children of all. The loss of home became one loss, and the golden time in the West was one dream. And it might be that a sick child threw despair into the hearts of twenty families, of a hundred people; that a birth there in a tent kept a hundred people quiet and awestruck trough the night and filled a hundred people with the birth-joy in the morning ... Every night a world created, complete with furniture- friends made and enemies established; a world complete with braggarts and with cowards, with quiet men, with humble men, with kindly men. Every night relationships that make a world, established; and every morning the world torn down like a circus. ~ John Steinbeck
Quiet Men quotes by John Steinbeck
The limitless, lowering sky, the long stretches of motionless empty prairie, the silence, complete right down to the absence of birdsong
who knows what decides a man to leave most of his words unspoken? ~ Larry Watson
Quiet Men quotes by Larry Watson
Some men are like dormant volcanoes, always ready to explode with anger. And also always ready to ejaculate everywhere with little warning. Plus they're often crusty. Metaphorically, I mean. You don't want a man who is literally crusty ejaculating on you. That would be a safety hazard and is probably how plague is spread. But my original point is that some seemingly quiet men anger easily. (Sorry. That metaphor got away from me a bit. I'd fix it but this is what editors are for.) ~ Jenny Lawson
Quiet Men quotes by Jenny Lawson
This psychic wound appears to be suffered largely by men. Women writers weren't included in the Romantic roll-call, and never had a lot of Genius medals stuck onto them; in fact, the word 'genius' and the word 'woman' just don't fit together in our language, because the kind of eccentricity expected of male 'geniuses' would simply result in the label 'crazy,' should it be practiced by a woman. ~ Margaret Atwood
Quiet Men quotes by Margaret Atwood
The Government cannot afford to have a country made up entirely of rich people, because rich people pay so little tax that the Government would quickly go bankrupt. This is why Government men always tell us that labor is man's noblest calling. Government needs labor to pay its upkeep. ~ Russell Baker
Quiet Men quotes by Russell Baker
Men are as men are. Why should they change? ~ Mark Mills
Quiet Men quotes by Mark Mills
A love that does not discriminate seems to me to forfeit a part of its own value, by doing an injustice to its object; and secondly, not all men are worthy of love. ~ Sigmund Freud
Quiet Men quotes by Sigmund Freud
Men and women must receive equal pay for equal work in production. ~ Mao Zedong
Quiet Men quotes by Mao Zedong
One man with conviction will overwhelm a hundred who have only opinions. ~ Winston Churchill
Quiet Men quotes by Winston Churchill
I'm a man who believes that right is right and wrong is wrong. Treat me right, and I will give you my all. Treat me wrong, and I will give you nothing. They don't like me for that, but that's the way I am. ~ Johnny Paycheck
Quiet Men quotes by Johnny Paycheck
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me. ~ St Patrick
Quiet Men quotes by St Patrick
In 2017, I was invited to lead a mindfulness workshop and guide a live meditation on Mingus Mountain, Arizona, to over 100 men and women at a recovery retreat. On the eve of my workshop, I had the opportunity to join in a men's twelve-step meeting, which took place by the campfire in Prescott National Park Forest, with at least 40 men recovering from childhood grief and trauma. The meeting grounded us in what was a large retreat with many unfamiliar faces. I was the only mixed-race Brit, surrounded by mostly white middle-class American men (baby boomers and Generation X), yet our common bond of validating each other's wounds in recovery utterly transcended any differences of nationality, race and heritage. We shared our pain and hope in a non-shaming environment, listening and allowing every man to have his say without interruption. At the end of the meeting we stood up in a large circle and recited the serenity prayer:

"God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know that one is me".

After the meeting closed, I felt that I belonged and I was enthusiastic about the retreat, even though I was thousands of miles away from England. ~ Christopher Dines
Quiet Men quotes by Christopher Dines
Men have to descend from their pedestal and learn how to be more broadminded and spiritual. ~ Indra Devi
Quiet Men quotes by Indra Devi
Or even knows they need attendin to. But I never done it to benefit myself. Shot that thing. Like I kept peace for seven year sake of a man I never knowed nor seen his face and like I seen them fellers never had no business there and if I couldn't run em off I could anyway let em know they was one man would let on that he knowed what they was up to. But I knowed if they could build it they could build it back and I done it anyway. Ever man loves peace and a old man best of all. ~ Cormac McCarthy
Quiet Men quotes by Cormac McCarthy
Yes," he said, without looking at anyone; "it's a misfortune to live five years in the country like this, far from the mighty intellects! You turn into a fool directly. You may try not to forget what you've been taught, but -in a snap!- they'll prove all that's rubbish, and tell you that sensible men have nothing more to do with such foolishness, and that you, if you please, are an antiquated old fogey. What's to be done? Young people, of course, are cleverer than we are! ~ Ivan Turgenev
Quiet Men quotes by Ivan Turgenev
People say I'm not good at writing about men. My dad left when I was 16. Give me a break. I'm doing the best I can. ~ Jennifer Weiner
Quiet Men quotes by Jennifer Weiner
The lowest standards of ethics of which a right-thinking man can possibly conceive is taught to the common soldier whose trade is to shoot his fellow men. In youth he may have learned the command, 'Thou shalt not kill,' but the ruler takes the boy just as he enters manhood and teaches him that his highest duty is to shoot a bullet through his neighbor's heart - and this, unmoved by passion or feeling or hatred, and without the least regard to right or wrong, but simply because his ruler gives the word. ~ Clarence Darrow
Quiet Men quotes by Clarence Darrow
I think love is serious. It's like an invention: sometimes it lies deep down inside you, great and quiet
and at other times it racks you and keeps you from sleeping. ~ William John Locke
Quiet Men quotes by William John Locke
One man lies in his words, and gets a bad reputation; another in his manners, and enjoys a good one. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Quiet Men quotes by Henry David Thoreau
You kiss better than most men fuck." Her ~ Jay Crownover
Quiet Men quotes by Jay Crownover
Wit, like money, bears an extra value when rung down immediately it is wanted. Men pay severely who require credit. ~ Douglas William Jerrold
Quiet Men quotes by Douglas William Jerrold
Man is imperfect. The reality he creates is always endangered by man. ~ Friedrich Durrenmatt
Quiet Men quotes by Friedrich Durrenmatt
I seldom even thought of myself as woman or girl, just person. Just human. I only became girl or woman when men walked into the room or I walked into theirs, when that gaze hit me like a hot breath. As a woman you walked in and we're assessed, ignored, or both. ~ Chelsey Johnson
Quiet Men quotes by Chelsey Johnson
We tend to look at successful athletes and make them almost bigger than life. I have seen many young men who have achieved greatness. I have also seen those who have come up a little short of their potential. I do know that those who succeed have been able to recognize within themselves the potential to do something well and then work hard to prepare themselves for that eventual opportunity. Others wait for the opportunity to come and then start to work, thus coming up a little short. ~ LaVell Edwards
Quiet Men quotes by LaVell Edwards
If you want to run as fast as the men, you've got to train like the men. ~ Florence Griffith Joyner
Quiet Men quotes by Florence Griffith Joyner
The time will come when man will know even what is going on in the other planets and perhaps be able to visit them. ~ Henry Ford
Quiet Men quotes by Henry Ford
No one lies so boldly as the man who is indignant. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Quiet Men quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
It is of the utmost importance to us to be kept humble. Consciousness of self-importance is a hateful delusion, but one into which we fall as naturally as weeds grow on a dunghill. We cannot be used of the Lord but that we also dream of personal greatness, we think ourselves almost indispensible to the church, pillars of the cause, and foundations of the temple of God. We are nothings and nobodies, but that we do not think so is very evident, for as soon as we are put on the shelf we begin anxiously to enquire, 'How will the work go on without me?' As well might the fly on the coach wheel enquire, 'How will the mails be carried without me?' Far better men have been laid in the grave without having brought the Lord's work to a standstill, and shall we fume and fret because for a little season we must lie upon the bed of languishing? God sometimes weakens our strength in a way at the precise juncture when our presence seems most needed to teach us that we are not necessary to God's work, and that when we are most useful, He can easily do without us. If this be the practical lesson, the rough schooling may be easily endured for assuredly it is beyond all things desirable that self should be kept low and the Lord alone be magnified. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Quiet Men quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
The angels are so enamored of the language that is spoken in heaven that they will not distort their lips with the hissing and unmusical dialects of men, but speak their own, whether their be any who understand it or not. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Quiet Men quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Asking a writer why they like to write {in the theoretical sense of the question} is like asking a person why they breathe. For me, writing is a natural reflex to the beauty, the events, and the people I see around me. As Anais Nin put it, "We write to taste life twice." I live and then I write. The one transfers to the other, for me, in a gentle, necessary way. As prosaic as it sounds, I believe I process by writing. Part of the way I deal with stressful situations, catty people, or great joy or great trials in my own life is by conjuring it onto paper in some way; a journal entry, a blog post, my writing notebook, or my latest story. While I am a fair conversationalist, my real forte is expressing myself in words on paper. If I leave it all chasing round my head like rabbits in a warren, I'm apt to become a bug-bear to live with and my family would not thank me. Some people need counselors. Some people need long, drawn-out phone-calls with a trusted friend. Some people need to go out for a run. I need to get away to a quiet, lonesome corner--preferably on the front steps at gloaming with the North Star trembling against the darkening blue. I need to set my pen fiercely against the page {for at such moments I must be writing--not typing.} and I need to convert the stress or excitement or happiness into something to be shared with another person.
The beauty of the relationship between reading and writing is its give-and-take dynamic. For years I gathered and read every b ~ Rachel Heffington
Quiet Men quotes by Rachel Heffington
…What's with you getting so quiet all of a sudden? Started remembering last night a bit, have we?"
- Kirishima Zen ~ Miyako Fujisaki
Quiet Men quotes by Miyako Fujisaki
I do not think that a man's rise to power is necessarily the climax of his life or that his loss of office should be equated with his fall. ~ Isaac Deutscher
Quiet Men quotes by Isaac Deutscher
Some women say as they get older they're no longer noticed: they disappear. Men, for instance, don't see them. Nobody wants them. That doesn't happen to me because of who I am. Not because I'm any more scintillating company, but because I'm Ruth Rendell. ~ Ruth Rendell
Quiet Men quotes by Ruth Rendell
Egyptian men are caught between what they like and what they want; they like the girls that their minds do not want and they want the girls that their hearts do not like. ~ Marwa Rakha
Quiet Men quotes by Marwa Rakha
And that is where I have failed you, Ari. You see, I would have crawled to your mother a million times. I would crawl to her because I need her in order to live. She is my strength. God help me, Ari, I have been a party to the creation of a breed of men and women so hard they refuse to know the meaning of tears and humility. ~ Leon Uris
Quiet Men quotes by Leon Uris
The man whose only pleasure in life is making money, weighs less on the moral scale than an angleworm. ~ Josh Billings
Quiet Men quotes by Josh Billings
People spend money they don't have on clothes and accessories they don't need to fill a void. No matter how much they invest in their own physical reconstruction (or in some cases deconstruction), they are still unhappy with who they see in the mirror. Don't get me wrong. We all do things to enhance our personal appearance, some more than others. But changing what's on the outside will not resolve deep-rooted issues. ~ Carlos Wallace
Quiet Men quotes by Carlos Wallace
He is quiet for a minute, then turns his head to look at me. "Where were you when I was twelve?"
"Well, I was nine." I cut my eyes over to him. "And probably locked in the back of a Ho-Ho truck, eating my way to freedom. Yeah, that really happened. ~ Nicole Christie
Quiet Men quotes by Nicole Christie
The order of ... successive generations is indeed much more clearly proved than many a legend which has assumed the character of history in the hands of man; for the geological record is the work of God. ~ Roderick Murchison
Quiet Men quotes by Roderick Murchison
Lord, help me to appreciate this woman/man without elevating her/him above you in my heart. Help me to remember that nobody can ever take your place in my life. You are my strength, my hope, my joy, and my ultimate reward. Bring me back to reality, God. Give me an undivided heart. ~ Joshua Harris
Quiet Men quotes by Joshua Harris
We as Americans are completely obsessed and wrapped up in a lot of the wrong values
looking good, having cash in the bank, being perceived as rich, famous and successful or just being famous, .. It's the most superficial part of the American dream and who would know better than me? The only thing that's going to bring you happiness is love and how you treat your fellow man and having compassion for one another. ~ Madonna Ciccone
Quiet Men quotes by Madonna Ciccone
Men would like monogamy better if it sounded less like monotony. ~ Rita Rudner
Quiet Men quotes by Rita Rudner
We may be able to prove conclusively that all men are born with potentially brilliant intellects ... and that the source of cultural creativity is the consciousness that springs from social cooperation and loving interaction ... the majority of us live far below our potential, because of the oppressive nature of most societies. ~ John Blacking
Quiet Men quotes by John Blacking
A world of wealth is trash if men are wanting; men who have no wealth never find fortune smiling as their strength deserves. ~ Aeschylus
Quiet Men quotes by Aeschylus
There's nineteen men livin' in my neighborhood, Eighteen of them are fools and the one ain't no doggone good. ~ Bessie Smith
Quiet Men quotes by Bessie Smith
In a general way, anything that affects men is taken more seriously than anything that affects only women. ~ Gloria Steinem
Quiet Men quotes by Gloria Steinem
I now began for the first time to envy those young cubs at the university who had fine scholars to tell them what was what; professors who had devoted their lives to mastering and focusing ideas in every branch of learning; who were eager to distribute the treasures they had gathered before they were overtaken by the night. But now I pity undergraduates, when I see what frivolous lives many of them lead in the midst of precious fleeting opportunity. After all, a man's Life must be nailed to a cross either of Thought or Action. Without work there is no play. ~ Winston Churchill
Quiet Men quotes by Winston Churchill
I have always been amazed at the way an ordinary observer lends so much more credence and attaches so much more importance to waking events than to those occurring in dreams ... Man ... is above all the plaything of his memory. ~ Andre Breton
Quiet Men quotes by Andre Breton
A simple man with Scripture has more authority than the Pope or a council. ~ Martin Luther
