And thinking over the long pilgrimage of his past he accepted it joyfully. He accepted the deformity which had made life so hard for him; he knew that it had warped his character, but now he saw also that by reason of it he had acquired that power of introspection which had given him so much delight. Without it he would never have had his keen appreciation of beauty, his passion for art and literature, and his interest in the varied spectacle of life. The ridicule and the contempt which had so often been heaped upon him had turned his mind inward and called forth those flowers which he felt would never lose their fragrance. ~ W. Somerset Maugham
Passion For Art quotes by W. Somerset Maugham
As I grew older, I developed a very innate passion for art. I was actually pretty good at it. ~ Evangeline Lilly
Passion For Art quotes by Evangeline Lilly
A frenzied passion for art is a canker that devours everything else. ~ Charles Baudelaire
Passion For Art quotes by Charles Baudelaire
I don't have any other skills. Some artists say that to mean that their embodied passion for art gave them no choice. I say it, very specifically, to say that I really didn't have any other options. ~ Rashid Johnson
Passion For Art quotes by Rashid Johnson
I also had a tremendous passion for art and read a lot. ~ Nigel Dennis
Passion For Art quotes by Nigel Dennis
Kev wasn't certain if he was surrendering to Win or to his own passion for her. Only that there was no more holding back. He would take her. And he would give her everything he had, every part of his soul, even the broken pieces. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Passion For Art quotes by Lisa Kleypas
To win the good-will of the people thou governest there are two things, among others, that thou must do; one is to be civil to all (this, however, I told thee before), and the other to take care that food be abundant, for there is nothing that vexes the heart of the poor more than hunger and high prices. Make not many proclamations; but those thou makest take care that they be good ones, and above all that they be observed and carried out; for proclamations that are not observed are the same as if they did not exist; nay, they encourage the idea that the prince who had the wisdom and authority to make them had not the power to enforce them; and laws that threaten and are not enforced come to be like the log, the king of the frogs, that frightened them at first, but that in time they despised and mounted upon. Be a father to virtue and a stepfather to vice. Be not always strict, nor yet always lenient, but observe a mean between these two extremes, for in that is the aim of wisdom. Visit the gaols, the slaughter-houses, and the market-places; for the presence of the governor is of great importance in such places; it comforts the prisoners who are in hopes of a speedy release, it is the bugbear of the butchers who have then to give just weight, and it is the terror of the market-women for the same reason. Let it not be seen that thou art (even if perchance thou art, which I do not believe) covetous, a follower of women, or a glutton; for when the people and those that have deal ~ Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Passion For Art quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Ireland, like Ukraine, is a largely rural country which suffers from its proximity to a more powerful industrialised neighbour. Ireland's contribution to the history of tractors is the genius engineer Harry Ferguson, who was born in 1884, near Belfast.
Ferguson was a clever and mischievous man, who also had a passion for aviation. It is said that he was the first man in Great Britain to build and fly his own aircraft in 1909. But he soon came to believe that improving efficiency of food production would be his unique service to mankind. Harry Ferguson's first two-furrow plough was attached to the chassis of the Ford Model T car converted into a tractor, aptly named Eros. This plough was mounted on the rear of the tractor, and through ingenious use of balance springs it could be raised or lowered by the driver using a lever beside his seat. Ford, meanwhile, was developing its own tractors. The Ferguson design was more advanced, and made use of hydraulic linkage, but Ferguson knew that despite his engineering genius, he could not achieve his dream on his own. He needed a larger company to produce his design. So he made an informal agreement with Henry Ford, sealed only by a handshake. This Ford-Ferguson partnership gave to the world a new type of Fordson tractor far superior to any that had been known before, and the precursor of all modern-type tractors. However, this agreement by a handshake collapsed in 1947 when Henry Ford II took over the empire of his father, and st ~ Marina Lewycka
Passion For Art quotes by Marina Lewycka
Faith isn't for the faint of heart.
Both Courage and naivete
are required. To grasp its art,
you must look the other way
when all the omens seem to say
you will not get what you desire,
so, though it may be cliche,
I put my faith in fire.

-Saint Margaret (pg 165) ~ David Elliott
Passion For Art quotes by David Elliott
She used to test his commitment by hurting him. She threatened to leave him, or cheat on him, then watched his face and measured the depth of his feelings for her by the extent to which it crumbled. He was insecure; prone to worry. If he ever became confident, she thought, it would mean that he no longer loved her, since to love someone is to worry; to need someone is to fear the inevitability of their absence. Without fear, she thought, without drama, there was only the grey blankness of late-middle-age relationships, where, as far as she could make out, concepts like love and passion were replaced by what she saw as the wretched terminology of codependent ennui: companionship, contentment, compromise; where one person's love for another was no longer stated simply because it was no longer questioned; where the key indicator not only of love but also of solidity would simply be the mere fact of the solidity and love that had gone before. No, no, she thought. Better the sense of odds, of struggle; the ongoing and repeated relief of trauma endured and survived. Without it, there was only the security of the unimaginative: an unspokenly dwindling sex life; roiling resentment; his-and-hers facial hair. ~ Sam Byers
Passion For Art quotes by Sam Byers
The total mental efficiency of a man is the resultant of the working together of all his faculties. He is too complex a being for any one of them to have the casting vote. If any one of them do have the casting vote, it is more likely to be the strength of his desire and passion, the strength of the interest he takes in what is proposed. Concentration, memory, reasoning power, inventiveness, excellence of the senses, all are subsidiary to this. ~ William James
Passion For Art quotes by William James
Atheism ... goes back to the Ancient Greek (a - a negative prefix, theos - god), evidencing the antiquity of the outlook of those who saw no presence of God (or gods) in their everyday lives, or who even denied the very existence of God (or gods). There are different types of atheism, but atheism in one form or another has existed in every civilization.

[T]he concept "atheist" partially coincides with such notions as "skeptic," "agnostic," and "rationalist" and it borders with such notions as "anticlerical," "God fighter" (theomachist), and "God abuser" (blasphemer).

It is wrong to identify an atheist as one who denies God, though this is what opponents of atheism usually claim. If such people exist, it would probably be more correct to call them the "verbal" murderers of God, for the prefix a- means denying as elimination. ... I would like to stress that the prefix a- does not necessarily mean rejection. It can mean "absence of." For example, "apathy" means "absence of passion." Thus, the concept "atheist" does not necessarily mean nihilism. ~ Valerii A. Kuvakin
Passion For Art quotes by Valerii A. Kuvakin
The hero is the world-man, in whose heart One passion stands for all, the most indulged. ~ Philip James Bailey
Passion For Art quotes by Philip James Bailey
Having declared a passion for his wildness, she had sought from the beginning to tame him. ~ Titania Hardie
Passion For Art quotes by Titania Hardie
I play tennis for a living even though I hate tennis, hate it with a dark and secret passion and always have. ~ Andre Agassi
Passion For Art quotes by Andre Agassi
Having a great golf swing helps under pressure, but golf is a game about scoring. It's like an artist who can get a two-inch brush at Wal-Mart for 20 cents or a fine camel-hair brush from an art store for 20 dollars. The brush doesn't matter - how the finished painting looks is what matters. ~ Jerry Pate
Passion For Art quotes by Jerry Pate
What a waste for such a handsome man to be..."
Minna chuckled. "So you find him attractive."
"Who would not, My Queen?"
"Indeed, you are right. Who would not? But alas, no woman will ever find comfort in his arms, or passion in his eyes, though it is not impossible that he should love. A woman willing to sacrifice the hope of children might find great happiness with him if she was prepared to be his friend."
"But would he wish it? ~ T.C. Southwell
Passion For Art quotes by T.C. Southwell
What I look for when I see a piece of art for the first time is some kind of emotional, intellectual experience, that's a combination of both of those things and is informed by my knowledge and something new that I see the artist doing. ~ Cheech Marin
Passion For Art quotes by Cheech Marin
I did it all for me. Purely selfish. I worshiped the art and the act of
death, over and over. It's as simple as that. Afterwards it was all
sexual confusion, symbolism, honoring the "fallen." I was honoring
myself. I hated the decay and the dissection. There was no
sadistic pleasure in the killing. I killed them as I would like to be
killed myself, enjoying the extremity of the death act itself. If I did
it to myself I could only experience it once. If I did it to others, I
could experience the death act over and over again.
- Dennis Nilsen ~ Dennis Nilsen
Passion For Art quotes by Dennis Nilsen
For the first time, the best may err, art may persuade, and novelty spread out its charms. The first fault is the child of simplicity; but every other the offspring of guilt. ~ Oliver Goldsmith
Passion For Art quotes by Oliver Goldsmith
I always thought that falling in love should feel like jumping from a cliff. A fall that scares you as much as it excites you, that leaves you breathless and wanting more. The impossible kind … that ruins you for everyone else.
This wasn't it, and my chances of finding it have just become harder. I am not the same girl that I was before. Finding that special guy prepared to carry my load with me, would be one in a million, a fairytale come true, and just maybe, an impossible dream… ~ MeChelle Vermeulen
Passion For Art quotes by MeChelle Vermeulen
I was put in charge, made a general, and sent into Serbia, where, by dint of my own ingenuity, we served honorably but did not kill a soul. And that, believe me, is very hard with the Serbs, because they are very ingenious themselves, and they have a passion for martyrdom. "I've been a field marshal for two years. I have so many medals that when I wear them I look like a window in a junk shop. ~ Mark Helprin
Passion For Art quotes by Mark Helprin
If we understood the enigmas of life there would be no need for art. ~ Albert Camus
Passion For Art quotes by Albert Camus
I will die for the art & what I believe in. The art ain't always gon' be polite. ~ Kanye West
Passion For Art quotes by Kanye West
In art one is concerned with the condition of the spirit for three quarters of the time; one must therefore care for oneself if he wishes to make something great and lasting. ~ Paul Gauguin
Passion For Art quotes by Paul Gauguin
What is Truth? Truth is the attribute of when the human heart marries the love of God, and the result is passion for your spiritual path. ~ Lee Carroll
Passion For Art quotes by Lee Carroll
I just do art because I'm ugly and there's nothing else for me to do. ~ Andy Warhol
Passion For Art quotes by Andy Warhol
It is possible for music to be labeled "Christian" and be terrible music. It could lack creativity and inspiration. The lyrics could be recycled cliches. That "Christian" band could actually be giving Jesus a bad name because they aren't a great band. It is possible for a movie to be a "Christian" movie and to be a terrible movie. It may actually desecrate the art form in its quality and storytelling and craft. ~ Rob Bell
Passion For Art quotes by Rob Bell
We have built for this world a family mansion, and the next a family tomb. The best works of art are the expression of man's struggle to free himself from this condition, but the effect of our art is merely to make this low state comfortable and that higher state to be forgotten. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Passion For Art quotes by Henry David Thoreau
It has been said that art is a tryst; for in the joy of it, maker and beholder meet. ~ Kojiro Tomita
Passion For Art quotes by Kojiro Tomita
Johnson's later life, from 1763, is among the best documented of all literary lives. James Boswell gave himself the enormous task, after Johnson's death in 1784, of producing what is now held to be a model of biography; rich in detail and anecdote, a complete picture of the man and his times, traced over a period of more than twenty years. Boswell's Life of Johnson, published in 1791, carries on Johnson's own contribution to the growing art of biography, and consolidates Johnson's position as a major literary figure, who, although a poet and a novelist, is remembered more for his academic and critical achievement than for his creative writings. ~ Ronald Carter
Passion For Art quotes by Ronald Carter
He who fights with guns and knives is a coward! For how easy is it to kill with the single pull of a trigger? And how does human flesh stand to a sharpened metal? Even an idiot can kill with a gun and a knife! A man needs no courage at all to stand behind these things that make him feel invincible and bigger than he ever will be! I don't say that no one should fight! Because battles must be fought, and wars will always be won! But let those who fight, fight with bare hands! The measure of true strength! With his hands and feet and nothing but! The country with truly strong men is able to have soldiers that need not a knife, that need no guns! And if you can soar even higher than that; fight with your pens! Let us all write! And see the substance of the man through his philosophies and through his beliefs! And let one philosophy outdo another! Let one belief outlast another! And let this be how we determine the outcome of a war! ~ C. JoyBell C.
Passion For Art quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Performance has to be mainstream art. This is what I'm fighting for. ~ Marina Abramovic
Passion For Art quotes by Marina Abramovic
I am a great lover of art, in many forms: paintings, objets, textiles. I don't have the talent for painting, but I have a very good sense of colour, a love of visual beauty. ~ Jacqueline Bisset
Passion For Art quotes by Jacqueline Bisset
I wish for everyone to fall in love with their own work. Did you just paint something that you think is cool? Photograph it! Are you struggling over an issue that's affecting your creativity? Write about it! Your art is the story of your life and you are the only one who can tell it. Tell people what you want them to know about you. Tell them why your art is special. Be constantly overflowing with enthusiasm for your work. Be you, not another artist. Meet the world as you are, and grow with them. The art experience and the human experience can be very similar at times. ~ Shayla Maddox
Passion For Art quotes by Shayla Maddox
In the medieval tradition, Beksinski seems to believe art to be a forewarning about the fragility of the flesh– whatever pleasures we know are doomed to perish– thus, his paintings manage to evoke at once the process of decay and the ongoing struggle for life. They hold within them a secret poetry, stained with blood and rust. ~ Guillermo Del Toro
Passion For Art quotes by Guillermo Del Toro
It is not possible to build on negative emotions. Genuine literature will come only when we replace hatred for man with love for man. ~ Yevgeny Zamyatin
Passion For Art quotes by Yevgeny Zamyatin
I couldn't comprehend the magnetic pull
that could be felt. I never understood the way love
overpowers common sense and passion overtakes
logic, or how unnerving it is that no one else really knows how you feel - no one can judge me for being weak or stupid, no one can put me down for
the way I feel. ~ Anna Todd
Passion For Art quotes by Anna Todd
I have always swung back and forth between alienation and relatedness. As a child, I would run away from the beatings, from the obscene words, and always knew that if I could run far enough, then any leaf, any insect, any bird, any breeze could bring me to my true home. I knew I did not belong among people. Whatever they hated about me was a human thing; the nonhuman world has always loved me. I can't remember when it was otherwise. But I have been emotionally crippled by this. There is nothing romantic about being young and angry, or even about turning that anger into art. I go through the motions of living in society, but never feel a part of it. When my family threw me away, every human on earth did likewise. ~ Wendy Rose
Passion For Art quotes by Wendy Rose
The things I'm grateful for are: I had the one thing that I feel really lucky about, which is that I made something, I made art, that truly - in a weird way - truly comforted me and comforted a lot of people. And I'm really grateful that I got to have that experience. ~ David Rees
Passion For Art quotes by David Rees
I want excitement; and I don't care what form it takes or what I pay for it, so long as it makes my heart beat. ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Passion For Art quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
Writing is a physical art. And writing a book is a lot more like making a complex sculpture out of bronze than writing a whole bunch of reports. What's in your head does not count, not for sculpture, not for book writing. Pencil on paper is what matters. Words on paper, pages and pages, chapter after chapter. ~ Heather Sellers
Passion For Art quotes by Heather Sellers
Marietta, I do not believe in ghosts, astrology, palmistry, graphology, John Cage, love or God. I do believe in the moment, in the pleasures of the flesh, of conversation, of art-at least for the few so minded. I believe . . . ~ Gore Vidal
Passion For Art quotes by Gore Vidal
Art is a concrete and personal and rather childish thing after all - no matter what people do to graft it into science and make it sociological and psychological; it is no good at all unless it is let alone to be itself - a game of make-believe, or re-production, very exciting and delightful to people who have an ear for it or an eye for it. ~ Willa Cather
Passion For Art quotes by Willa Cather
The sufferings of neurosis and psychosis are for us a schooling in the passions of the soul, just as the beam of the psychoanalytic scales, when we calculate the tilt of its threat to entire communities, provides us with an indication of the deadening of the passions in society. ~ Jacques Lacan
Passion For Art quotes by Jacques Lacan
Afflictive passion and the veil upon cognition - The cure for their obscurity is emptiness. How then shall they not meditate on this Who wish for swift attainment of omniscience? ~ Santideva
Passion For Art quotes by Santideva
What we also need to have a discussion on the philosophy of art: so we must ask what is it that we want in the first place? Is it just about saying and doing whatever you want, or is it about something more? We should let the artist be free, but we must also question how exactly he deals with freedom. Is it arts for elevation or arts for destruction? Is there dignity in the process? ~ Tariq Ramadan
