What's a book boyfriend and how do I find them so I can kick their asses? ~ M.D. Saperstein
Nick Santino quotes by M.D. Saperstein
People don't want children to know what they need to know. They want their kids to know what they ought to need to know. If you're a teacher you're in a constant battle with mildly deluded adults who think the world will get better if you imagine it is better. You want to teach about sex? Fine, but only when they're old enough to do it. You want to talk politics? Sure, but nothing modern. Religion? So long as you don't actually think about it. Otherwise some furious mob will come to your house and burn you for a witch. ~ Nick Harkaway
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Harkaway
Few of us have chosen our clubs, they have simply been presented to us; and so as they slip from Second Division to the Third, or sell their best players, or buy players who you know can't play, or bash the ball the seven hundreth time towards a nine foot centre-forward, we simply curse, go home, worry for a fortnight and then come back to suffer all over again. ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
I used to think that when I got older, the world would make so much more sense. But you know what? The older I get, the more confusing it is to me. The more complicated it is. Harder. You'd think we'd be getting better at it. But there's just more and more chaos. The pieces - they're everywhere. And nobody knows what to do about it. I find myself grasping, Nick. You know that feeling? That feeling when you just want the right thing to fall into the right place, not only because it's right, but because it will mean that such a thing is still possible? I want to believe in that. ~ David Levithan
Nick Santino quotes by David Levithan
Where America was founded on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, Sharia was founded on death, slavery, and the pursuit of power. ~ Nick Adams
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Adams
When we are headed the wrong way, the last thing we need is progress. ~ Nick Bostrom
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Bostrom
Joshua Joseph has no great hatred of modern technology
he just mistrusts the effortless, textureless surfaces and the ease with which it trains you to do things in the way most convenient to the machine. ~ Nick Harkaway
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Harkaway
Cigarettes and Whiskey and Wild, Wild Women"

Perhaps I was born kneeling,
born coughing on the long winter,
born expecting the kiss of mercy,
born with a passion for quickness
and yet, as things progressed,
I learned early about the stockade
or taken out, the fume of the enema.
By two or three I learned not to kneel,
not to expect, to plant my fires underground
where none but the dolls, perfect and awful,
could be whispered to or laid down to die.

Now that I have written many words,
and let out so many loves, for so many,
and been altogether what I always was -
a woman of excess, of zeal and greed,
I find the effort useless.
Do I not look in the mirror,
these days,
and see a drunken rat avert her eyes?
Do I not feel the hunger so acutely
that I would rather die than look
into its face?
I kneel once more,
in case mercy should come
in the nick of time. ~ Anne Sexton
Nick Santino quotes by Anne Sexton
I am a rationalist, and I don't believe in genies, or sudden personality changes. I wanted David's anger to vanish only after years and years in therapy. ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
I'd be happy doing anything on a film set. ~ Nick Frost
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Frost
Ah, my dear friend Hassim, seems our paths cross once again, how fortunate for this humble Sheik." As Abdullah spoke in his usual self deprecating manner I realized that a favor was on the tip of his tongue and that I was about to be offered a quid-pro-quo.

We were sitting crossed legged on large fat pillows with gold fringe. The tent was large with partitions dividing living, sleeping and cooking space. It was made from heavy cotton canvas erected on thick poles in the center giving the structure a peaked circus tent appearance. The women serving us were young, wearing harem pants low on their hips with cropped gauze tops made from sheer silk. Their exposed midriffs were flat and toned, their belly buttons were decorated in precious stones that glittered in the torch light as they moved. They were bare footed with stacks of gold ankle bracelets making the only sound we heard as they kept our glasses filled with fresh sweet tea and our communal serving trays piled high with dates and sugar incrusted sweets of undetermined origin.

Abdullah took no notice of these women, his nonchalance intrigued me as I was obviously having trouble keeping my mind focused on the discussion at hand, this was all part of the Arab way, when it came to negotiation they had no peers.

"So my dear friend, tell me, the region is on fire is there a solution?"

I spoke in a deliberate and flat tone, little emotion just concern, one friend to another.

Nick Hahn
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hahn
I wanted to be alone, not forgotten. ~ Nick Tosches
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Tosches
[-] writers never felt they belonged anywhere. That was one of the reasons they became writers. ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
Liberalism is a really old British tradition and it has a completely different attitude towards the individual and the relationship between the individual and the state than the collectivist response of Labour, and particularly Old Labour, does. ~ Nick Clegg
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Clegg
The idea was put to me, and my initial reaction was of slight sort of - I was slightly appalled, really, because in the U.K., we don't - we think it's all a bit vulgar, you know, doing Christmas or cashing in on Christmas. And there's a word we have for it, which is naff. And it's not exactly uncool. It really sort of means kind of vulgar and a bit - not very stylish. ~ Nick Lowe
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Lowe
i WILL reach success because i will not accept anything less ~ Nick Macri
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Macri
What are you? (Nick)
Completely perplexed. You remember everything that happened. (Acheron)
Yeah. Duh. Not like you're going to forget the killer zombie stalkers and psyched-out kitchen staff. What kind of freak show is this? (Nick) ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Nick Santino quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The problem isn't who is in charge. It's what is in charge. The problem is that people are encouraged to function as machines. Or, actually, as mechanisms. Human emotion and sympathy are unprofessional. They are inappropriate to the exercise of reason. Everything which makes people good - makes them human - is ruled out. The system doesn't care about people, but we treat it as if it were one of us, as if it were the sum of our goods and not the product of our least admirable compromises. ~ Nick Harkaway
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Harkaway
Some magicians are rich, some are famous, some are stupidly good-looking.'
Jamie gave Nick a rather complicated look.
Nick raised an eyebrow. 'Some of us manage to be stupidly good-looking on our own. ~ Sarah Rees Brennan
Nick Santino quotes by Sarah Rees Brennan
Newton's work on gravity led to the discovery of the Lagrange point, a place where opposing forces cancel one another out, and a body may remain at relative rest. This is where I am right now; the forces in my life confound one another. Better, for the moment, to be here and now, without history or future. ~ Nick Harkaway
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Harkaway
2:130
WHAT TO BEGIN NEXT

I can't decide what work, what study, to being next, among the several possible. If there is no spirit, no soul, no divine dimension or value, then whatever we do is just killing time, meaningless and idle. On the other hand, if God and the mystery of spirit overlap with this time and place in simultaneous layering, then anything we work on performs eternity and is the very motion of mystery. Each gesture and word and idea appears in this moment's presence and in the other as well. This is a great truth of being.

Whether a particular actions leads toward a future heaven or hell is not worth considering. Even when you will die is not important. Eternity creates itself at this point. This moment is where you grow nearer and nearer God. Time and the infinite curl together in every nick, touch, taw, tine, and root fiber. Here and now is where you can be shown the miracle of what continuously occurs. ~ Bahauddin
Nick Santino quotes by Bahauddin
Johnny Depp is, to me, a rare kindred spirit with like sensibilities, who has escaped the beast. He's probably one of the few people that have survived Los Angeles as a human being. ~ Nick Tosches
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Tosches
Anyone and everyone taking a writing class knows that the secret of good writing is to cut it back, pare it down, winnow, chop, hack, prune, and trim, remove every superfluous word, compress, compress, compress...

Actually, when you think about it, not many novels in the Spare tradition are terribly cheerful. Jokes you can usually pluck out whole, by the roots, so if you're doing some heavy-duty prose-weeding, they're the first to go. And there's some stuff about the whole winnowing process I just don't get. Why does it always stop when the work in question has been reduced to sixty or seventy thousand words--entirely coincidentally, I'm sure, the minimum length for a publishable novel? I'm sure you could get it down to twenty or thirty if you tried hard enough. In fact, why stop at twenty or thirty? Why write at all? Why not just jot the plot and a couple of themes down on the back of an envelope and leave it at that? The truth is, there's nothing very utilitarian about fiction or its creation, and I suspect that people are desperate to make it sound manly, back-breaking labor because it's such a wussy thing to do in the first place. The obsession with austerity is an attempt to compensate, to make writing resemble a real job, like farming, or logging. (It's also why people who work in advertising put in twenty-hour days.) Go on, young writers--treat yourself to a joke, or an adverb! Spoil yourself! Readers won't mind! ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
When I was young, I kept trying to read 'Moby-Dick', and I couldn't get that far into it. And I kept thinking, 'Well, man, if I can't read the great American novel, I could never be a writer.' And this bothered me a great deal. ~ Nick Tosches
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Tosches
Buchner proposed that fermentation was carried out by biological catalysts that he named enzymes (from the Greek en zyme, meaning in yeast). He concluded that living cells are chemical factories, in which enzymes manufacture the various products. ~ Nick Lane
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Lane
One thing I'd like to do is angel investing in small companies. That's what's exciting, and if you are lucky to have a bit of money, you can take those risks. ~ Nick D'Aloisio
Nick Santino quotes by Nick D'Aloisio
It takes a child to say the unsayable. ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
Men and women alike, if you think that altering the tip of your nose with surgery will make you happier, I would suggest you alter something much more malleable than your flesh, like your priorities, or your friends. ~ Nick Offerman
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Offerman
I guess you think this is some kind of character-building exercise, too, then??"

"Do you REALLY think the last thing I'm gonna do before I die is admit someone else was right?? ~ Nick Spencer
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Spencer
No time spent with a book is ever entirely wasted, even if the experience is not a happy one: there's always something to be learned. It's just that, every now and again, you hit a patch of reading that makes you feel as if you're pootling about ... But what can you do about it? We don't choose to waste our reading time; it just happens. The books let us down. ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
There are many differences between a baby and an I-Pod. And one of the biggest is, no ones going to mug you for your baby. ~ Nick Hornby
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Hornby
Are you sure Savitar is on our side?" Nick
"I can hear you, kid," Savitar growled "And yeah. I'm on your side."
"Just checking. My other former allies turned out to be myths. ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Nick Santino quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Will you read this? I think maybe it sucks. Or maybe it's awesome. It's probably awesome. Tell me it's awesome, okay? Unless it sucks. - Nick ~ Rainbow Rowell
Nick Santino quotes by Rainbow Rowell
You know the old saying," said Nick. "Keep your friends close and your enemies dead and buried in the basement. ~ Mark Frost
Nick Santino quotes by Mark Frost
To move to the next rung, you must give up your grip and reach for the next one. Release, reach, and raise yourself up, ~ Nick Vujicic
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Vujicic
An idea or an insight doesn't come from a single happening, it requires a meeting to alter a perspective. Often it takes a while for the events to collide, but when they do it is inevitable that a change will follow. ~ Nick Bantock
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Bantock
He's at the chocolate teapot end of the competency scale. ~ Nick Hornby

Nick Santino quotes by Nick Vujicic
I listen to Radio 4 and put the iPod on shuffle. I like the randomness of, say, the Stones, then something from Nina Simone, Nick Drake or Bob Dylan. ~ Catherine McCormack
Nick Santino quotes by Catherine McCormack
Red-checked tablecloths, cheap metal chairs, and all manner of food on the menu, from dim sum to stromboli. Soft lighting did nothing to hide the fact that they were the only patrons in the place.

After they were seated at a four top, with sodas in front of them, Nick was desperate for anything to lighten the mood.

"Fast service," he said wryly. "Do you want me to accuse you of dazzling the waitress?"

Adam choked on his soda. "Is that a Twilight reference? How is it possible your brothers don't know you're g*y?"

Every time he said that, Nick wanted to flinch as hard as Adam had on the street. "I said a girlfriend was making me read it. ~ Brigid Kemmerer
Nick Santino quotes by Brigid Kemmerer
I'm happy to work until I'm 70 if I'm able to. Actually, I'm happy to keep writing as long as people keep buying my books. ~ Nick Earls
Nick Santino quotes by Nick Earls
The next dysfunction of a team is the lack of commitment and the failure to buy in to decisions." She wrote the dysfunction above the previous one. "And the evidence of this one is ambiguity, " which she wrote next to it. Nick was reengaging now. ~ Jossey-Bass
Nick Santino quotes by Jossey-Bass
Success comes to you with luck and a lot of hard work, but it doesn't give you the right to be any better than anybody else. ~ Nick Nolte
