Nowhere was the complacency of the establishment, with its blind faith in progress, more evident than in its attitude toward an elite degree: as long as my child goes to the right schools, upward mobility will continue. A university education had become the equivalent of a very expensive insurance policy, like owning a gun. ~ George Packer
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by George Packer
But you say, does it represent change? The change is that we are fighting an insurance industry that has killed health reform for generations. They're spending tens of millions of dollars right now to defeat this bill, and we're on the doorstep of winning a great victory for the American people. ~ David Axelrod
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by David Axelrod
I felt I had a calling in my life to be in full-time ministry, and although I was very successful in the insurance business, earning a very large six-figure income, I gave notice to my company and sold out in January 2007 to go into the ministry full-time. ~ Michael Richard Stosic
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Michael Richard Stosic
While Brazil is not much of a role model for India in terms of income equality, its effective focus on inclusion over the last decade has some lessons for us. Article 7 of the Brazilian constitution speaks forcefully in favour of employee rights, minimum wage, unemployment insurance and a social safety net for those who lose their jobs or are retired. ~ Narayan Ramachandran
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Narayan Ramachandran
Shortly after I returned home from the Ukraine, I became severely ill with what doctors believed was a parasite. I couldn't hold my food down and lost a lot of weight. Different doctors kept prescribing me antibiotics, but none of them seemed to help. For a couple of months, I was poked and tested in a variety of ways, only to have more questions surface than answers. Then I was sent to an ear, nose, and throat doctor for an evaluation. I was sitting in a waiting room with a bunch of toddlers, when my name was called. By the time I got into the examination room I knew I'd had enough.
"Hey, I'm outta here," I told the doctor. "I'll take my chance with the resurrection."
Well, a couple of weeks later, my insurance agent called me. He was one of my lifelong friends and sounded concerned.
"Hey, Jase," he said. "Your insurance company wants you to see a psychiatrist."
Apparently, the ear, nose, and throat doctor recommended I undergo a full psychiatric evaluation based on my refusal to be examined, along with my speech on the resurrection! Apparently, he thought I was crazy. I convinced my buddy that I didn't need a psychiatrist and eventually got over my illness. I would later read a passage of scripture in the Bible that caused me to smile in reflection on the entire ordeal. Second Corinthians 5:13 says: "If we are out of our mind, as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. ~ Jase Robertson
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Jase Robertson
The point is that families today are spending their money no more foolishly than their parents did. And yet they're five times more likely to go bankrupt, and three times more likely to lose their homes. Families are going broke on the basics - housing, health insurance, and education. These are the kind of bills that you can't just trim around the edges in the event of a downturn. ~ Amelia Warren Tyagi
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Amelia Warren Tyagi
Even families with health insurance are quite vulnerable to a severe economic reversal if someone gets sick. ~ Elizabeth Warren
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Elizabeth Warren
Social Security is a family insurance program, not an investment scheme. ~ Diane Watson
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Diane Watson
Everybody says they want to have private providers and we're saying fine. Let the states negotiate on behalf of a population in your state to drive down your costs. Don't just give subsidies to insurance companies for expensive insurance. ~ Maria Cantwell
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Maria Cantwell
I detest life-insurance agents: they always argue that I shall some day die, which is not so. ~ Stephen Leacock
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Stephen Leacock
American Medical Association [AMA] was strongly opposed to any scheme for group practice and to health insurance ... because they are un-American. ~ Morris Fishbein
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Morris Fishbein
On the other side of the gun debate we have those who wish to eliminate all guns. "Guns kill" is the battle cry. If that argument was true, we would have to label cars as "killers" since they take more lives in a year than guns. But the claim is false. There is no question that guns are deadly and were invented for one thing – to kill. But guns don't think, they don't plan, they don't aim, and they don't pull their own trigger. Guns are just a tool used by an owner to complete a task. Good people use guns for recreation and as insurance against evil. Bad people use guns to commit crimes. How a gun is used is not determined by the gun; it is determined by the holder of the gun. Period. There is nothing else to say on this point. ~ Mark Mullen
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Mark Mullen
You have to be careful on the deck, because of the "hatches," which are holes placed around a sailboat at random to increase the insurance rates. ~ Dave Barry
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Dave Barry
Shel Israel has been a diabetic for many years, jabbing his finger a few times every day to measure his blood sugar. Every six months he brings his glucose meter to his endocrinologist, who extracts and analyzes the data. His pharmacist recently informed him that a new California law requires him to share his data with them as well or his insurance coverage will be dropped, raising the monthly cost from about $8.25 to about $165. Who is behind this law? ~ Robert Scoble
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Robert Scoble
You'd be safe to hold 5% of your assets and savings in gold and silver. Insurance for the future. ~ John Paul DeJoria
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by John Paul DeJoria
Deposit insurance has proved to be the crack cocaine of American finance. ~ Martin Mayer
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Martin Mayer
[In] NIVO 1, LLC v. Antunez, 217 Cal.App.4th Supp. 1 (2013) The Appellate Division of the Los Angeles Superior Court held that a tenant may not be evicted for failure to buy renter's insurance even if the lease requires purchasing insurance. ~ Madeline Howard
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Madeline Howard
THE WORLD IS increasingly designed to depress us. Happiness isn't very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. How do you get them to buy a new smartphone? By making them feel like they are being left behind. To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act. To be happy with your own non-upgraded existence. To be comfortable with our messy, human selves, would not be good for business. ~ Matt Haig
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Matt Haig
I was proud to share the stories of my friends at Georgetown Law who have suffered dire medical consequences because our student insurance does not cover contraception for the purpose of preventing pregnancy. ~ Sandra Fluke
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Sandra Fluke
I always felt that organized religion was just basically a theological insurance scam where they're saying if you spend time with us, guess what, you're going to live forever, you're going to go to some other plain where you're going to be so happy, you'll just be happy all the time, which is also kind of a scary idea to me. ~ Stephen King
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Stephen King
The big-time journalists generally had kidnapping insurance through their news organizations. Usually, it would pay for a crisis response company to help negotiate for a hostage's release. Freelancers most often had none. ~ Amanda Lindhout
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Amanda Lindhout
I'm happy that I feel a little less out of place in filmmaking than I once was - but it's almost impossible for a playwright in the U.S. to make a living. You can have a play, like I did with 'Angels,' and it still generates income for me, but it's not enough for me to live on and have health insurance. ~ Tony Kushner
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Tony Kushner
The system is not intended as a substitute for private savings, pension plans, and insurance protection. It is, rather, intended as the foundation upon which these other forms of protection can be soundly built. Thus, the individual's own work, his planning and his thrift will bring him a higher standard of living upon his retirement, or his family a higher standard of living in the event of his death, than would otherwise be the case. Hence the system both encourages thrift and self-reliance, and helps to prevent destitution in our national life. ~ Dwight D. Eisenhower
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Dwight D. Eisenhower
If you look at people who seek a lot of care in American cities for multiple illnesses, it's usually people with a number of overwhelming illnesses and a lot of social problems, like housing instability, unemployment, lack of insurance, lack of housing, or just bad housing. ~ Paul Farmer
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Paul Farmer
This accident, with the loss of my insurance, and with the more serious loss of my hair, - the whole of which had been singed off by fire, - predisposed me to serious impressions, so that, finally, I made up my mind to take a wife. ~ Edgar Allan Poe
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Edgar Allan Poe
When the War ended in 1945, I started selling vacuum cleaners door to door. Then I sold insurance door to door. I even tried selling cars. ~ Clint Walker
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Clint Walker
If Adam were honest with himself, which he rarely was, he'd come to terms with the fact that beyond his work and the view, he was floundering a bit. His plan had been to take the insurance money, leave his old life behind, and start completely over somewhere new. A place where memories didn't lurk around every corner.
He hadn't figured on the memories coming along with him. ~ Kirsten Fullmer
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Kirsten Fullmer
The more generous the benefit, the easier you make it to stay on unemployment insurance, and the less incentive there is for people to actually go out and do what it takes to get a job. ~ John Ensign
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by John Ensign
Innovation is the only insurance against irrelevance. ~ Gary Hamel
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Gary Hamel
People would have a health care insurance policy they can call their own. They could choose one that exactly fits their families' needs and their budgets, be able to take that coverage with them from job to job and be able to fire their insurance company if it doesn't treat them well. ~ Andrew P. Harris
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Andrew P. Harris
Take Canada again: why does Canada have the health-care program it does? Up until the mid-1960s, Canada and the United States had the same capitalist health service: extremely inefficient, tons of bureaucracy, huge administrative costs, millions of people with no insurance coverage―exactly what would be amplified in the United States by Clinton's proposals for "managed competition" [put forward in 1993].21 But in 1962 in Saskatchewan, where the N.D.P. is pretty strong and the unions are pretty strong, they managed to put through a kind of rational health-care program of the sort that every industrialized country in the world has by now, except the United States and South Africa. Well, when Saskatchewan first put through that program, the doctors and the insurance companies and the business community were all screaming―but it worked so well that pretty soon all the other Provinces wanted the same thing too, and within a couple years guaranteed health care had spread over the entire country. And that happened largely because of the New Democratic Party in Canada, which does provide a kind of cover and a framework within which popular organizations like unions, and then later things like the feminist movement, have been able to get together and do things. ~ Noam Chomsky
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Noam Chomsky
These guys get mean waiting on furloughs, beat the machines up good, insurance replaces three batches a month, but destroying machines aint booze and pussy if you know what I mean. ~ Philip Schultz
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Philip Schultz
I resist thinking of myself as a teacher. I think of myself as a writer who has pulled a fast one and hoodwinked this institution into giving me a job and health insurance. ~ Vijay Seshadri
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Vijay Seshadri
Health care is very different from other sectors of the economy in several respects, one of which is the fact that the risk can be very high beyond people's ability. That leads to insurance. ~ Joseph Stiglitz
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Joseph Stiglitz
My father was an insurance man and a small-time gambler. He was a good man, but he had an eye for the racehorses, and I saw how it used to bother my mother. I've never gambled a dime. Never, in all those years in Vegas. ~ Don Rickles
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Don Rickles
The world should be worried about those who go around the planet with a can of gasoline in one hand and a box of matches in the other, pretending to sell fire insurance. ~ Rodrigue Tremblay
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by Rodrigue Tremblay
For 25 years practicing medicine, I never asked anybody if they were a Republican or a Democratic or an independent and asked if they had insurance or not. I took care of everybody. ~ John Barrasso
Nakazawa Insurance quotes by John Barrasso
Hard-hearted people may be no fun to sit next to at parties, but they are just as entitled to earn a living as the rest of us. Fortunately-for them, at least-the need for insurance adjusters, tax collectors, theater critics, and the like continues to this very day. ~ Maryrose Wood
