The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty
it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There's a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God. ~ Mother Teresa
Love Medicine quotes by Mother Teresa
Medicine no doubt, has helped us a lot to cure so many diseases, but death still remains an incurable one! ~ Mehek Bassi
Love Medicine quotes by Mehek Bassi
Love is the medicine of all moral evil. By it the world is to be cured of sin. ~ Henry Ward Beecher
Love Medicine quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
I wonder if much that ails our society stems from the fact that we have allowed ourselves to be cut off from that love of, and from, the land. It is medicine for broken land and empty hearts. ~ Robin Wall Kimmerer
Love Medicine quotes by Robin Wall Kimmerer
One of the signs of the lovers of God is the love for the knowledge relating to the shape of heavenly bodies, and the knowledge of the chain of causes descending from the exalted God, the method of dissecting the human body and its internal organs and his faculties and devices. Unless these kinds of knowledge, which are the scales and ladders extending from the servant to the Lord, are uncovered to him, how can he reach God's knowledge? And if this knowledge is not gained, how can love be achieved or even imagined? ~ Mulla Sadra
Love Medicine quotes by Mulla Sadra
Your life feels different on you, once you greet death and understand your heart's position. You wear your life like a garment from the mission bundle sale ever after- lightly because you realize you never paid nothing for it, cherishing because you know you won't ever come by such a bargain again. ~ Louise Erdrich
Love Medicine quotes by Louise Erdrich
Jealousy's a proof of love, But 'tis a weak and unavailing medicine; It puts out the disease and makes it show, But has no power to cure. ~ John Dryden
Love Medicine quotes by John Dryden
Love will be our medicine. ~ Marianne Williamson
Love Medicine quotes by Marianne Williamson
Medicine, you see, is my first love; whether I write fiction or nonfiction, and even when it has nothing to do with medicine, it's still about medicine. After all, what is medicine but life plus? So I write about life. ~ Abraham Verghese
Love Medicine quotes by Abraham Verghese
Basch: So why don't you ask her out?
The Runt: I'm scared she wouldn't like me and say no.
-So what? What have you got to lose?
-The possibility -if she says no- that she might have said yes. Whatever I do, I don't want to lose that possibility. ~ Samuel Shem
Love Medicine quotes by Samuel Shem
The highest degree of a medicine is Love. ~ Paracelsus
Love Medicine quotes by Paracelsus
I hold his name close as my own blood and I will never let it out. I only spoke it that once so he would know he was alive. ~ Louise Erdrich
Love Medicine quotes by Louise Erdrich
I belong to a culture that includes Proust, Henry James, Tchaikovsky, Cole Porter, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Alexander the Great, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Christopher Marlowe, Walt Whitman, Herman Melville, Tennessee Williams, Byron, E.M. Forster, Lorca, Auden, Francis Bacon, James Baldwin, Harry Stack Sullivan, John Maynard Keynes, Dag Hammarskjold… These are not invisible men. Poor Bruce. Poor frightened Bruce. Once upon a time you wanted to be a soldier.
Bruce, did you know that an openly gay Englishman was as responsible as any man for winning the Second World War? His name was Alan Turing and he cracked the Germans' Enigma code so the Allies knew in advance what the Nazis were going to do - and when the war was over he committed suicide he was so hounded for being gay. Why don't they teach any of this in the schools? If they did, maybe he wouldn't have killed himself and maybe you wouldn't be so terrified of who you are. The only way we'll have real pride is when we demand recognition of a culture that isn't just sexual. It's all there - all through history we've been there; but we have to claim it, and identify who was in it, and articulate what's in our minds and hearts and all our creative contributions to this earth. And until we do that, and until we organize ourselves block by neighborhood by city by state into a united visible community that fights back, we're doomed. That's how I want to be defined: as one of the men who fought the war. ~ Larry Kramer
Love Medicine quotes by Larry Kramer
Spanish rain,
A maiden's dress,
Apothecary pills
And ancient thrills;
Melancholy kills
A girl's caress. ~ Roman Payne
Love Medicine quotes by Roman Payne
I had fallen in love with a young man ... , and we were planning to get married. And then he died of subacute bacterial endocarditis ... Two years later with the advent of penicillin, he would have been saved. It reinforced in my mind the importance of scientific discovery ... ~ Gertrude B. Elion
Love Medicine quotes by Gertrude B. Elion
I smiled and unraveled a plan that some strategic command at the back of my mind had been hatching while the woman in me made love to Rosetta Jeanette Lawson in the guise of a man. ~ Walter Mosley
Love Medicine quotes by Walter Mosley
Love is who you are, don't resist it. ~ E'yen A. Gardner
Love Medicine quotes by E'yen A. Gardner
Despite my so-so-experience with the iPhone, I do love its touchscreen technology, a feature I miss with my standard-issue BlackBerry. ~ Kara Swisher
Love Medicine quotes by Kara Swisher
I was in my early forties the first time I visited an oncology ward for terminal patients. I was apprehensive, as I was going to the front lines of a battle the our culture labors mightily to keep hidden, but I needed to visit a friend. I did not expect that the ward would be an apocalypse in the literal sense of the word--an unmasking or uncovering. The intensity of misery was overwhelming, yet it did not frighten or repel me, for I had entered holy ground. People my own age, as well as the elderly, were shockingly frail and needed support just to totter down the hall. Still, they were alive, and walking, saying their goodbyes to friends, children, and grandchildren. What struck me was that the atmosphere was not merely one of sadness, but also one of beauty deepened by the sobering inevitability of death, and blessed by the presence of vibrant love. While the relentless activity of New York City surrounded us, here everything unessential had been stripped away. Only life remained, a gift and a joy beyond our understanding. I had arrived in the real world. ~ Kathleen Norris
Love Medicine quotes by Kathleen Norris
What is a colour when death comes to call upon the black man and also pays a visit to his neighbour who is white? Can either by his hue keep alive his mortal soul? What is a colour? ~ Eugenie Laverne Mitchell
Love Medicine quotes by Eugenie Laverne Mitchell
Fidelity to one's marriage vows is absolutely essential for love, trust and peace ~ Ezra Taft Benson
Love Medicine quotes by Ezra Taft Benson
Oh, those lapses, darling. So many of us walk around letting fly with "errors." We could do better, but we're so slovenly, so rushed amid the hurly-burly of modern life, so imprinted by the "let it all hang out" ethos of the sixties, that we don't bother to observe the "rules" of "correct" grammar.

To a linguist, if I may share, these "rules" occupy the exact same place as the notion of astrology, alchemy, and medicine being based on the four humors. The "rules" make no logical sense in terms of the history of our language, or what languages around the world are like.

Nota bene: linguists savor articulateness in speech and fine composition in writing as much as anyone else. Our position is not - I repeat, not - that we should chuck standards of graceful composition. All of us are agreed that there is usefulness in a standard variety of a language, whose artful and effective usage requires tutelage. No argument there.

The argument is about what constitutes artful and effective usage. Quite a few notions that get around out there have nothing to do with grace or clarity, and are just based on misconceptions about how languages work.

Yet, in my experience, to try to get these things across to laymen often results in the person's verging on anger. There is a sense that these "rules" just must be right, and that linguists' purported expertise on language must be somehow flawed on this score. We are, it is said, permissive - perhaps a ~ John McWhorter
Love Medicine quotes by John McWhorter
I love you with every ounce of my being. You are the music of my soul, my heart, and the love of my life. I am everything with you and nothing without you. ~ Nancee Cain
Love Medicine quotes by Nancee Cain
Frederick Douglass, former slave, extraordinary speaker and writer, wrote in his Rochester newspaper the North Star, January 21, 1848, of "the present disgraceful, cruel, and iniquitous war with our sister republic. Mexico seems a doomed victim to Anglo Saxon cupidity and love of dominion." Douglass was scornful of the unwillingness of opponents of the war to take real action (even the abolitionists kept paying their taxes): The determination of our slaveholding President to prosecute the war, and the probability of his success in wringing from the people men and money to carry it on, is made evident, rather than doubtful, by the puny opposition arrayed against him. No politician of any considerable distinction or eminence seems willing to hazard his popularity with his party . . . by an open and unqualified disapprobation of the war. None seem willing to take their stand for peace at all risks; and all seem willing that the war should be carried on, in some form or other. ~ Howard Zinn
Love Medicine quotes by Howard Zinn
Love can reach the same level of talent, and even genius, as the discovery of differential calculus. ~ Lev Vygotsky
Love Medicine quotes by Lev Vygotsky
I followed him up the stairs. I was a fornicator, of unnatural appetite, in thrall to an Atheist. I repeated the words in my head and tried to feel the shock of them, but they remained strange and cruel, far removed from Ferris and me. It was simpler to say I was in love. ~ Maria McCann
Love Medicine quotes by Maria McCann
Love doesn't suit the lazy; sometimes it requires strong, precise actions. ~ Susanna Tamaro
Love Medicine quotes by Susanna Tamaro
We even save a few lives, but only a fraction of the lives that need to be saved. Soon, we will leave and when we leave there will be nothing to take our place. The meningitis epidemic, cholera, measles, typhoid fever, all preventable diseases, will return and continue as before. The only solution is a political solution, national public health programs, responsible corporations who reap only as much as they sow. Shell Oil with a conscience. Nigeria doesn't need us. What we do here is less than nothing. We take the pressure off the powers that be, making it easier for those who plunder to keep on plundering. This is the humanitarian aid paradox. ~ Pamela Grim
Love Medicine quotes by Pamela Grim
There is no boundary between heaven and earth unless we believe in one. ~ Leland Dirks
Love Medicine quotes by Leland Dirks
True love is like a metal tested in a fire. Fires of adversity surround us daily. Are we to love only when it is merely convenient? Like gold or silver, which very hot fire must heat to purge them of impurities, love must be thrust into the fire from time to time to make it purer, stronger and more resilient. And in the same way, live shines its brightest right out of the flames. ~ James Michael Pratt
Love Medicine quotes by James Michael Pratt
321. - We are nearer loving those who hate us, than those who love us more than we desire. ~ Francois De La Rochefoucauld
Love Medicine quotes by Francois De La Rochefoucauld
There is no God, and man is his prophet," replied Niels bitterly and rather sadly.
"Exactly," scoffed Hjerrild. "After all, atheism is unspeakably tame. Its end and aim is nothing but a disillusioned humanity. The belief in a God who rules everything and judges everything is humanity's last great illusion, and when that is gone, what then? Then you are wiser; but richer, happier? I can't see it."
"But don't you see," exclaimed Niels Lyhne, "that on the day when men are free to exult and say: 'There is no God!' on that day a new heaven and a new earth will be created as if by magic. Then and not till then will heaven be a free infinite space instead of a spying, threatening eye. Then the earth will be ours and we the earth's, when the dim world of bliss or damnation beyond has burst like a bubble. The earth will be our true mother country, the home of our hearts, where we dwell, not as strangers and wayfarers a short time, but all our time. Think what intensity it will give to life, when everything must be concentrated within it and nothing left for a hereafter. The immense stream of love that is now rising up to the God of men's faith will bend to earth again and flow lovingly among all those beautiful human virtues with which we have endowed and embellished the godhead in order to make it worthy of our love. Goodness, justice, wisdom--who can name them all? Don't you see what nobility it will give men when they are free to live their life and die their death, witho ~ Jens Peter Jacobsen
Love Medicine quotes by Jens Peter Jacobsen
The resolve rising in her soul to die with me drew me I cannot tell you how powerfully, irresistibly to her bosom. Do you remember that I often asked you would you die with me? - But you always said no - A whirlpool of never before experienced happiness has seized hold of me and I cannot deny that her grave is dearer to me than the beds of all the empresses in the world. - Oh, my dear friend, may God soon call you to that better world where we shall all with the love of the angels embrace one another again.
- Adieu. ~ Heinrich Von Kleist
Love Medicine quotes by Heinrich Von Kleist
I can't just let us go our separate ways, Kitten, because I am in love with you. I love you. ~ Jeaniene Frost
Love Medicine quotes by Jeaniene Frost
You have to know someone intimately to be able to love them. So love at first sight is a contradiction in terms. Unless in that first sight there's some sort of mystical gigabyte downloading of information from one mind into the other. ~ David Mitchell
Love Medicine quotes by David Mitchell
Loyalty, Signor Molteni, not love. Penelope is loyal to Ulysses but we do not know how far she loved him ... and as you know people can sometimes be absolutely loyal without loving. In certain cases, in fact, loyalty is form of vengeance, of black-mail, of recovering one's self-respect. Loyalty, not love. ~ Alberto Moravia
Love Medicine quotes by Alberto Moravia
It turns out that there is something more magnificent than nature. It's love. ~ Ben Harper
Love Medicine quotes by Ben Harper
Lonnie's monotonous speech gives him an advantage, the same advantage foreigners have: his words are not worn out. It is like a code tapped through a wall. Sometimes he asks me straight out: do you love me? and it is possible to tap back: yes, I love you. ~ Walker Percy
Love Medicine quotes by Walker Percy
To say "I love you" one must first be able to say the "I ~ Ayn Rand
Love Medicine quotes by Ayn Rand
The fifth doorway to experiencing Love for No Reason is the Doorway of Communication, which corresponds to the energy center located in the throat area. This doorway relates to speaking and listening with compassion, rather than judgment. There are some wonderful tools and techniques available to help us speak and listen with compassion that I've included in this chapter. ~ Marci Shimoff
Love Medicine quotes by Marci Shimoff
I love you," he repeated. "I wasn't sure it was even possible for me to care about anyone else again, but I can't deny how I feel about you. ~ Teresa Mummert
Love Medicine quotes by Teresa Mummert
Homesickness, for example. In his opinion there are various kinds: a desire for shelter, family nostalgia, a fear of separation or a yearning for love.
"The yearning to have something good to love soon: a place, a person, a particular bed. ~ Nina George
Love Medicine quotes by Nina George
That's what I love. Not being interrupted, sitting in a car by myself and listening to music in the rain. There are so many great songs yet to sing. ~ Alison Krauss
Love Medicine quotes by Alison Krauss
After listening and getting to know more about you. Also, feeling a deep connection between us that goes beyond physical attraction. I'm beginning to feel for, so much more than the friendship that I waited to grow with you. I'm not going to try and rush things. However, I don't want to wait until it's to late. ~ Jonathan Anthony Burkett
Love Medicine quotes by Jonathan Anthony Burkett
Love is sensual and celestial. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Love Medicine quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I didn't know jack, but I did know that even after the people you love are torn from you, time keeps beating away at the black metronome that's called life. It doesn't care that you've cracked wide open, that you're screaming for everyone to just stop. It doesn't hear you. You are nothing. People still go to dinner, planes take off and land, lions roar, violins play. And you are left in your corner, hanging on to memories, nothing more than a speck of dust on the metronome's base. - from the journal of Violet St. Lyons ~ Ilsa Madden-Mills
Love Medicine quotes by Ilsa Madden-Mills
Choosing a path meant having to miss out on others. She had a whole life to live, and she was always thinking that, in the future, she might regret the choices she made now. "I'm afraid of committing myself," she thought to herself. She wanted to follow all possible paths and so ended up following none. Even in that most important area of her life, love, she had failed to commit herself. After her first romantic disappointment, she had never again given herself entirely. She feared pan, loss, and separation. These things were inevitable on the path to love, and the only way of avoiding them was by deciding not to take that path at all. In order not to suffer, you had to renounce love. It was like putting out your own eyes not to see the bad things in life. ~ Paulo Coelho
Love Medicine quotes by Paulo Coelho
Oh! let me love forever.
Let me die in love.
Life is valueless dust
if love touched you never. ~ Debasish Mridha
Love Medicine quotes by Debasish Mridha
Maybe love could just be a moment, the kind that teaches rather than robs. ~ R.K. Ryals
Love Medicine quotes by R.K. Ryals
The sins that should have brought condemnation on us, God laid on Jesus. God's love planned an amazing exchange: Jesus endured what we deserved so that we might enjoy what he deserved - eternal life. And the way we come to enjoy this
life is by believing in Jesus. That's what he said: 'Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life' (John 6:47; cf. Luke 8:12). ~ John Piper
