The real question is when didn't I know I loved you?"
"When didn't you know?" He asked.
"When I didn't know you existed," I said. "Once I knew you existed, well, there wasn't a time I didn't love you. ~ Chase Connor
Ian Chambers quotes by Chase Connor
It's not the theme parks of Paradiso and Inferno that I dread most - the heavenly rides, the hellish crowds - and I could live with the insult of eternal oblivion. I don't even mind not knowing which it will be. What I fear is missing out. Health desire or mere greed, I want my life first, my due, my infinitesimal slice of endless time and one reliable chance of a consciousness. I'm owed a handful of decades to try my luck on a freewheeling planet. That's the ride for me - the Wall of Life. I want my go. I want to become. Put another way, there's a book I want to read, not yet published, not yet written, though a start's been made. I want to read to the end of My History of the Twenty-First Century. I want to be there, on the last page, in my early eighties, frail but sprightly, dancing a jig on the evening of December 31, 2099. ~ Ian McEwan
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian McEwan
Are-are you leaving?"
She saw his shoulders stiffen at the sound of her voice, and when he turned and looked at her, she could almost feel the effort he was exerting to keep his rage under control. "You're leaving," he bit out.
In silent, helpless protest Elizabeth shook her head and started slowly across the carpet, dimly aware that this was worse, much worse than merely standing up in front of several hundred lords in the House.
"I wouldn't do that, if I were you," he warned softly.
"Do-do what?" Elizabeth said shakily.
"Get any nearer to me."
She stopped cold, her mind registering the physical threat in his voice, refusing to believe it, her gaze searching his granite features.
"Ian," she began, stretching her hand out in a gesture of mute appeal, then letting it fall to her side when her beseeching move got nothing from him but a blast of contempt from his eyes. "I realize," she began again, her voice trembling with emotion while she tried to think how to begin to diffuse his wrath, "that you must despise me for what I've done."
"You're right."
"But," Elizabeth continued bravely, "I am prepared to do anything, anything to try to atone for it. No matter how it must seem to you now, I never stopped loving-"
His voice cracked like a whiplash. "Shut up!"
"No, you have to listen to me," she said, speaking more quickly now, driven by panic and an awful sense of foreboding that nothing she could do or say would ever make him ~ Judith McNaught
Ian Chambers quotes by Judith McNaught
There's an awful lot of terrible television which I could do, but I mostly stick to Have I Got News for You. ~ Ian Hislop
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Hislop
No child, still less a fetus, has ever mastered the art of small talk, or would ever want to. It's an adult device, a covenant with boredom and deceit. ~ Ian McEwan
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian McEwan
When God gives a vision, transact business on that line, no matter what it costs. ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
A heartless Christian must be a terrible grief to our Lord. ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
Prayer is simple, prayer is supernatural, and to anyone not related to our Lord Jesus Christ, prayer is apt to look stupid. ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
All the time I was playing the flute, the lines, the solos, the riffs, the construction, were based on my guitar skills. I did not play the flute to exploit its natural faculties, but I used it as a surrogate guitar. ~ Ian Anderson
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Anderson
I have been forced to believe that neither the scholarly grace of my friend Elliott nor the buxom beauty of my friend Rowden have touched that heart of ice."

Elliot and Rowden, boiling with indignation, cried out, "And you!"

"I," said Clifford blandly, "do fear to tread where you rush in. ~ Robert W. Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Robert W. Chambers
What for?" Mildred squints up at him, staring at his hat. "You gonna marry him?"
My jaw drops open and my face burns red. "Uhhh ... " Ian and I haven't talked marriage. Yes, we've discussed him living out here, but that was it. I'm so embarrassed right now it's not even funny. I wish I could turn back time and bring Ian in here on a day that Mildred wasn't going to be around.
Ian walks over and takes a seat in the chair next to Mildred. "Maybe. If I can convince her it's a good idea. ~ Elle Casey
Ian Chambers quotes by Elle Casey
That the world should be filled with such detail, such tiny points of human frailty, threatened to crush her and she had to look away. ~ Ian McEwan
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian McEwan
Naturally, we are inclined to be so mathematical and calculating that we look upon uncertainty as a bad thing ... Certainty is the mark of the common-sense life. To be certain of God means that we are uncertain in all our ways, we do not know what a day may bring forth. This is generally said with a sigh of sadness; it should rather be an expression of breathless expectation. ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
God is the Great Engineer, creating circumstances to bring about moments in our lives of divine importance, leading us to divine appointments ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
When you're a child, it's easy to see school as the worst thing in the world. It's only later in life you realise what a wonderful time it was. Looking back, I can't believe I even wanted to leave. ~ Ian Beattie
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Beattie
Prayer or worship does not therefore grant a free pass to selfishness ... ~ Ian-Anthony Finnimore
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian-Anthony Finnimore
If I revise a children's book, if I'm spending three hours on the first draft, I'm probably spending 30 minutes revising it. I mean, come on! But to redo a painting? That's hard work. ~ Michael Ian Black
Ian Chambers quotes by Michael Ian Black
She seemed to Bond to give a quick involuntary shrug of the shoulders as she spoke, but then she leant impulsively towards him. 'I have some news for you from Mathis. He was longing to tell you himself. It's about the bomb. It's a fantastic story. ~ Ian Fleming
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Fleming
My children, as long as you live, the shadow of the Hiss Case will brush you. In every pair of eyes that rests on you, you will see pass, like a cloud passing behind a woods in winter, the memory of your father - dissembled in friendly eyes, lurking in unfriendly eyes. ~ Whittaker Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Whittaker Chambers
As usual, Vanderhyde's memory was sharp enough when it suited him. 'That's true. All the same, you were there.' 'Yes, I was. But I left several hours before the fire started. Not guilty, your honour.' 'Why were you there in the first place?' 'To meet a friend for a drink.' 'A seedy place for a drink.' 'Was it? You'll have to remember, Inspector, I couldn't see anything. It certainly didn't smell or feel particularly disreputable.' 'Point taken.' 'I had my memories. To me, it was the same old Central Hotel I'd lunched in and danced in. I quite enjoyed the evening. ~ Ian Rankin
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Rankin
I pray thee, sir, forgive me for the mess/And whether I shot first, I'll not confess.
- Han Solo ~ Ian Doescher
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Doescher
muted 'thanks' as the person moved away. 'It ~ Ian Rankin
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Rankin
Why should there be the method of science? There is not just one way to build a house, or even to grow tomatoes. We should not expect something as motley as the growth of knowledge to be strapped to one methodology. ~ Ian Hacking
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Hacking
I love working in TV. TV is fast. You shoot it, and it's done quickly. ~ Henry Ian Cusick
Ian Chambers quotes by Henry Ian Cusick
Soon after I'd had my son I really wasn't planning on going back to work for a while. I will walk over hot coals to work with Bill Condon on anything, the experience that you have with him is just too good.I've certainly never worked with him before so the trio of Bill [Codon], Ian [ McKellen], and Sherlock Holmes, and England: it was too much to say "no" to. ~ Laura Linney

Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
The heart is divided into four chambers, two to a side. When one side fails, the other must follow, and the body dies.
-The Book of The Eternal Rose ~ Fiona Paul
Ian Chambers quotes by Fiona Paul
There's this misconception that comedy and music go together. They don't. Comedians can't compete with rock stars; they're just not on the same level. Rock stars will always be cooler. They will always get more girls. ~ Michael Ian Black
Ian Chambers quotes by Michael Ian Black
The characteristic of a disciple is not that he does good things, but that he is good in his motives, having been made good by the supernatural grace of God. ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
All the suffering and torment wrought at places of execution, in torture chambers, madhouses, operating theatres, under the arches of bridges in late autumn - all these are stubbornly imperishable, all these persist, are inaccessible but cling on, envious of everything that is, stuck in their own terrible reality. People would like to be allowed to forget much of it, their sleep gliding softly over these furrows in the brain, but dreams come and push sleep aside and fill the picture again. And so they wake up breathless, let the light of a candle dissolve the darkness as they drink the comforting half-light as if it was sugared water. But, alas, the edge on which this security is balancing is a narrow one. Given the slightest little turn and their gaze slips away from the familiar and the friendly, and the contours that had so recently been comforting take the sharp outlines of an abyss of horror. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Ian Chambers quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke
Melanie: well, tell him
wanda: what will happen then?
melanie: you know what will happen. kyle broke the rules. jeb will shoot him, or they'll kick him ou. meybe ian will beat the snot out of him first.that would be fun to watch. ~ Stephenie Meyer
Ian Chambers quotes by Stephenie Meyer
In the spiritual domain, criticism is love turned sour. In a wholesome spiritual life there is no room for criticism. The critical faculty is an intellectual one, not a moral one. If criticism becomes a habit it will destroy the moral energy of the life and paralyse spiritual force. The only person who can criticise human beings is the Holy Spirit. ~ Oswald Chambers
Ian Chambers quotes by Oswald Chambers
There are few of us who have not sometimes wakened before dawn, either after one of those dreamless nights that make us almost enamoured of death, or one of those nights of horror and misshapen joy, when through the chambers of the brain sweep phantoms more terrible than reality itself, and instinct with that vivid life that lurks in all grotesques, and that lends to Gothic art its enduring vitality... Veil after veil of thin dusky gauze is lifted, and by degrees the forms and colors of things are restored to them, and we watch the dawn remaking the world in its antique pattern. The wan mirrors get back their mimic life... Nothing seems to us changed. Out of the unreal shadows of the night comes back the real life that we had known. We have to resume it where we had left off, and there steals over us a terrible sense of the necessity for the continuance of energy in the same wearisome round of stereotyped habits, or a wild longing, it may be, that our eyelids might open some morning upon a world that had been refashioned anew in the darkness... a world in which the past would have little or no place, or survive, at any rate, in no conscious form of obligation and regret... It was the creation of such worlds as these that seemed to Dorian Gray to be the true object... of life. ~ Oscar Wilde
Ian Chambers quotes by Oscar Wilde
No one's been in the kitchen since he left it. On the table are his cup, Theo's empty water bottle and, beside it, the remote control. It's stil faintly surprising, this fidelity of objects, sometimes reassuring, sometimes sinister. ~ Ian McEwan
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian McEwan
Just as, at least in one religion, accidia is the first of the cardinal sins, so bordom, and particularly the incredible circumstance of waking up bored, was the only vice Bond utterly condemned. ~ Ian Fleming
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Fleming
He was discovering that being in love was not a steady state, but a matter of fresh surges or waves, and he was experiencing one now. ~ Ian McEwan
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian McEwan
And of course, Japan, with the highest suicide statistics in the world, a country with an unquenchable thirst for the bizarre, the cruel and the terrible, would provide the perfect last refuge for him. ~ Ian Fleming
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Fleming
I write about modern people who share a deep sense of connection to the mysteries of the past. I find that I understand myself and my world better when I'm able to peer into history as a mirror. ~ Ian Caldwell
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Caldwell
The Left has failed to understand the extent to which its intolerant, often coercive, approach to issues that permit good-willed disagreement has turned off voters who might otherwise be sympathetic to their general program. ~ Ian Tuttle
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian Tuttle
I am so blessed that all I've done in my professional life, since I was 17-18, is play music and somehow make a dollar here and there. ~ Ian McLagan
Ian Chambers quotes by Ian McLagan
There is something about the human condition. I don't think dogs are like "If only I was a poodle instead of a golden retriever, I'd be totally happy." Dogs are happy with who they are. ~ Michael Ian Black
Ian Chambers quotes by Michael Ian Black
By the effectiveness of redemption, not by impressive speech, nor by wooing and persuading, but only by the sheer unaided power of God. ~ Oswald Chambers
