You don't like this quite country life?" inquired Mrs. Condiment.
"No; no better than I do a quiet country grave-yard. I don't want to return to dust before my time, I tell you," said Cap, yawning dismally over her work. ~ E.D.E.N. Southworth
Grave Yard quotes by E.D.E.N. Southworth
Would we believe their story of the dead, when they return? ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Grave Yard quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Don't want to end up a cartoon in a cartoon grave yard. ~ Paul Simon
Grave Yard quotes by Paul Simon
The cern paled, and all the courageous which accompanied him into the conversation was now all done away. He shrunk back, his audacity dwizzening under the teneberous gloom of the giant's long shadow. He turned to entreat the help of his fellow soldiers with desperate looks, but there was little more than half of the regiments left behind him, all of them unwilling to intervene, and his bowels rumbled, his heart sinking into the grave of conscience, and never had he felt more mistaken in his conduct. ~ Michelle Franklin
Grave Yard quotes by Michelle Franklin
All that lies betwixt the cradle and the grave is uncertain. ~ Seneca The Younger
Grave Yard quotes by Seneca The Younger
Be it sculpture, poetry, or narrative fraught with terrible insight ... art does endure. It troubles and pleases, inspires, and reminds us that humanity is ever capable of adding to the sum of the world's grave beauty. ~ Stephanie Mills
Grave Yard quotes by Stephanie Mills
I can't think of any greater happiness than to be with you all the time, without interruption, endlessly, even though I feel that here in this world there's no undisturbed place for our love, neither in the village nor anywhere else; and I dream of a grave, deep and narrow, where we could clasp each other in our arms as with clamps, and I would hide my face in you and you would hide your face in me, and nobody would ever see us any more. ~ Franz Kafka
Grave Yard quotes by Franz Kafka
We're, ah, taking a break to evaluate things, and, um, reexamine our relationship, so I stuffed him in a closet! I burst out in shame. Timmie's eyes goggled.
Is he still there? ~ Jeaniene Frost
Grave Yard quotes by Jeaniene Frost
I have always known
that you will visit my grave.
I see myself as a small brown bird,
perhaps a sparrow, watching you
from a low branch as you pray
in front of my name.
I will hear you
sound out my epitaph: Aqui descansa
una mujer que quiso volar.
You will recall telling me
that you once dreamed in Spanish,
and felt the words
lift you into flight.
The sound of wings
will startle you when you say "volar,"
and you will understand. ~ Judith Ortiz Cofer
Grave Yard quotes by Judith Ortiz Cofer
Secundus might lie rotting in his grave, but his relatives and followers yet lived. They believed the lies that held Gwenwhyfar responsible for the death of their relative. For the sake of his own family's safety, Marcus had not sought to correct that error. ~ Jennifer McKeithen
Grave Yard quotes by Jennifer McKeithen
Pakistan, she observed, had a policy of "profiting from the disputes of others," and she cited Pakistan's desire to benefit from tension between the great powers and Pakistan's early focus on the Palestine dispute as examples of this tendency. "Pakistan was occupied with her own grave internal problem, but she still found time to talk fervently of sending 'a liberation army to Palestine to help the Arabs free the Holy Land from the Jews ~ Husain Haqqani
Grave Yard quotes by Husain Haqqani
You dump trash. You dump yard waste and old ripped couches that smell like body odor and forgetfulness. You dump cigarette butts and banana peels and hazardous waste. But people? ~ Autumn Doughton
Grave Yard quotes by Autumn Doughton
Were you ever in Elsinore, Mr Jagiello?' asked Jack.
Oh, many a time, sir,' said Jagiello. 'I know it well. I believe I could show you Hamlet's grave from here.'
I was really wondering whether they had ten or thirteen inch mortars on the upper terrace,' said Jack, 'but I should be very happy to see Hamlet's grave as well.'
Both ten and thirteen, sir. And if you go a little to the right from the farthest turret, there are some trees: and among those trees there is the grave. You can just make out the rocks.'
So there he lies,' said jack, his telescope leveled. 'Well, well: we must all come to it. But it was a capital piece, capital. I never laughed so much in my life.'
A capital piece indeed,' said Stephen, 'and I doubt I could have done much better myself. But, do you know, I have never in my own mind classed it among the comedies. Pray did you read it recently?'
I never read it at all,' said Jack. 'That is to say, not right through. No: I did something better than that - I acted in it. There, the upper terrace fires. I was a midshipman at the time. ~ Patrick O'Brian
Grave Yard quotes by Patrick O'Brian
Times are not what they were, and we cannot be, either. If you sit and wish for what you want, you may not see it this side of the grave. ~ Robert Jordan
Grave Yard quotes by Robert Jordan
A feeling of foreboding, and, indeed, of physical as well as psychological discomfort, had come over him. He suddenly recalled - and this did nothing at all to help - a phrase he had once come across: Someone is walking over your grave. ~ Arthur C. Clarke
Grave Yard quotes by Arthur C. Clarke
As far as I'm concerned," said Constant, "the Universe is a junk yard, with everything in it overpriced. I am through poking around in the junk heaps, looking for bargains. Every so-called bargain," said Constant, "has been connected by fine wires to a dynamite bouquet. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Grave Yard quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Good. Coffee is good for you. It's the caffeine in it. Caffeine, we are here. Caffeine puts a man on her horse and a woman in his grave. ~ Ernest Hemingway,
Grave Yard quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
You are my everything," I say, lips moving against hers. "I've said it before and I will say it again, and I'll go to my grave saying it. You are my star, my light, my love. And it doesn't matter if you believe in it or not because it is the truth and the truth always finds a way to shine. ~ Karina Halle
Grave Yard quotes by Karina Halle
An inch of progress is worth a yard of complaint. ~ Booker T. Washington
Grave Yard quotes by Booker T. Washington
From plots and treasons Heaven preserve my years, But save me most from my petitioners. Unsatiate as the barren womb or grave; God cannot grant so much as they can crave. ~ John Dryden
Grave Yard quotes by John Dryden
Branches moved and shadows shifted as Lilith dug the poppet's final grave. ~ Georgina Anne Taylor
Grave Yard quotes by Georgina Anne Taylor
But the one thing all of the people in the Ape Yard had in common was that they were trapped, caught in that basin of poverty and servitude to Doc Bobo in the hollow, and held in place by the weight of the white structure beyond. For them, escape seemed futile at the outset. ~ Jeff Fields
Grave Yard quotes by Jeff Fields
Not everyone on campus was fond of my hobbies. After football practice one day, one of my coaches informed me that the dean of men wanted to see me. I wasn't sure what I had done wrong, but I knew they had me on something. I walked into the office, and he asked me to close the door.
"We have a problem," he said. "Do you know what street you live on? Do you know the name of it?"
"Vetville?" I asked him.
"Let me refresh your memory," he said. "You live on Scholar Drive."
Apparently, the president of Louisiana Tech had given members of the board of trustees a tour of campus the day before.
"When we went to where you live, it wasn't very scholarly," the dean told me. "There were old boats, motors, duck decoys, and fishnets littering your front yard. He was embarrassed. This is an institution of higher learning."
"That's my equipment," I told him.
"But everybody's yard is mowed-except yours," he replied.
"At least the frost will get it," I said. "It will lay down flat as a pancake when the frost gets it."
"It's July," the dean said. "Cut your grass. ~ Phil Robertson
Grave Yard quotes by Phil Robertson
Nothing is so irretrievably lost to a society as the sense of fear it felt about a grave danger that was subsequently coped with. ~ George F. Will
Grave Yard quotes by George F. Will
And there is something profoundly humbling about knowing God. I'm not talking about the trinket God or the genie-in-a-lamp God. I mean the God who invented the tree in my front yard, the beauty of my sweetheart, the taste of a blueberry, the violence of a river at flood. There are a lot of religious trends that would have us controlling God, telling us that if we do this that and the other, God will jump through our hoops like a monkey. But this other God, this real God, is awesome and strong, all-encompassing and passionate, and for reasons I will never understand, he wants to father us. ~ Donald Miller
Grave Yard quotes by Donald Miller
This was another pretend, and here in a yard on a bench was his real wife, with sad, kind, tired eyes. The lesson of Mimmy and my dad was not for me. It was for her. It was for them. I was so sick with understanding that I was practically yelling at her. ~ Joshilyn Jackson
Grave Yard quotes by Joshilyn Jackson
Early in his writing career Michael Lincoln expected he would look up from his word processor, out through his window and be able to take in the flat calm of the Pacific Ocean, or the choppy Atlantic. The North Sea, even, maybe the Thames river. Some body of water, surely. He glanced up from the first draft of his third crime novel and beheld the magnificent vista of Garrand's Scrap Yard in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside. ~ GB Hope
Grave Yard quotes by GB Hope
You're seeing someone else, aren't you?"
Seeing someone else? How on earth could that explain any of this? Why would seeing someone else necessitate bringing home a middle-aged woman, a teenaged punk and an American with a leather jacket and a Rod Stewart haircut? What would the story have been? But then, after reflection, I realised that Penny had probably been here before, and therefore knew that infidelity can usually provide the answer to any domestic mystery. If I had walked in with Sheena Easton and Donald Rumsfeld, Penny would probably have scratched her head for a few seconds before saying exactly the same thing.
In other circumstances, on other evenings, it would have been the right conclusion, too; I used to be pretty resourceful when I was being unfaithful to Cindy, even if I do say so myself. I once drove a new BMW into a wall, simply because I needed to explain a four-hour delay in getting home from work. Cindy came out into the street to inspect the crumpled bonnet, looked at me, and said, "You're seeing someone else, aren't you?" I denied it, of course.
But then, anything – smashing up a new car, persuading Donald Rumsfeld to come to an Islington flat in the early hours of New Year's Day – is easier than actually telling the truth. That look you get, the look which lets you see right through the eyes and down into the place where she keeps all the hurt and the rage and the loathing... Who wouldn't go that extra yard to avoid it? ~ Nick Hornby
Grave Yard quotes by Nick Hornby
I hit a one-yard draw in there ~ Tiger Woods
Grave Yard quotes by Tiger Woods
General Mario Vargas Salinas, now retired from Bolivia's Eighth Army Division, was one of the young army officers present at Guevara's burial. It was his duty to accompany an old dump truck carrying the bodies of the six dead rebels, including that of "Che" Guevara, to the airstrip in Vallegrande, Bolivia. Knowing that the facts surrounding the burials were leaking out, he decided that after 28 years the world should know what had happened to "Che" Guevara's body. At the time, Captain Vargas, who had also led the ambush in which Tamara "Tania" Bunke, Guevara's lover, was shot dead, said that Guevara was buried early on the morning of October 11th, 1967, at the end of the town's landing strip. After the gruesome facts became known, the Bolivian government ordered the army to find Guevara's remains for a proper burial.
General Gary Prado Salmón, retired, had been the commander of the unit that had captured Guevara. He confirmed General Vargas' statement and added that the guerrilla fighters had been burned, before dumping their bodies into a mass grave, dug by a bulldozer, at the end of the Vallegrande airstrip. He explained that the body of "Che" Guevara had been buried in a separate gravesite under the runway. The morning after the burials, "Che" Guevara's brother arrived in Vallegrande, hoping to see his brother's remains. Upon asking, he was told by the police that it was too late. Talking to some of the army officers, he was told lies or perhaps just differing account ~ Hank Bracker
Grave Yard quotes by Hank Bracker
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of being well-preserved, but to skid sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, still screaming, 'Whoo what a ride! ~ Theresa Hollis
Grave Yard quotes by Theresa Hollis
made his choice while he dug Dobby's grave, he had decided to continue along the winding, dangerous path indicated for him by Albus Dumbledore, to accept that he had not been told everything that he wanted to know, but simply to trust. He had no desire to doubt again; he did not want to hear anything that would deflect him from his purpose. ~ J.K. Rowling
Grave Yard quotes by J.K. Rowling
Derryn took me to a plot she'd chosen for herself in a cemetery in north London. She looked at her grave, up at me, and then smiled. I remember that clearly. A smile shot through with so much pain and fear I wanted to break something. I wanted to hit out until all I felt was numb. ~ Tim Weaver
Grave Yard quotes by Tim Weaver
In my front yard, there are these two giant old trees, which help the porch vibe, obviously, with a forty-foot-tall canopy. It has a very Jurassic Parky vibe, but without dinosaurs. Also, most people on my street are friendly, and I don't live on an island. ~ Chad Eastham
Grave Yard quotes by Chad Eastham
I want everyone to get plenty of rest tonight, because tomorrow, we make plans to bury the new council chair. And don't worry about the shovel shortage," I said, glancing from face to determined face. "Because Calvin Malone has dug his own grave. ~ Rachel Vincent
Grave Yard quotes by Rachel Vincent
If thou has passion for faith thou dost preach
Regard for God whose mercy thou beseech
Love for the soil out of which thou art born
Why dost thou slay thy brethren, held in scorn?
The land on which I was born is not mine
That giveth bread and roof is mine and thine
And few yards of soil for grave benign

Lady, you are the cruel'st she alive
If you will lead these graces to the grave
And leave the world no copy. ~ William Shakespeare
Grave Yard quotes by William Shakespeare
Once I am dead, there will be no lack of pious hands to throw me over the railing; my grave will be the fathomless air; my body will sink endlessly and decay and dissolve in the wind generated by the fall, which is infinite. ~ Jorge Luis Borges
Grave Yard quotes by Jorge Luis Borges
I must return to my old comrades of the Great War - to the brown, the treeless, the flat and grave-set plain of Flanders - to the rolling, heat-miraged downlands of the Somme - for I am dead with them, and they live in me again. ~ Henry Williamson
Grave Yard quotes by Henry Williamson
Tenar, I go where I am sent. I follow my calling. It has not yet let me stay in any land for long. Do you see that? I do what I must do. Where I go, I must go alone. So long as you need me, I'll be with you in Havnor. And if you ever need me again, call me. I will come. I would come from my grave if you called me, Tenar! But I cannot stay with you. ~ Ursula K. Le Guin
Grave Yard quotes by Ursula K. Le Guin
Dave put his head down and ate his eggs. He heard his mother leave the kitchen, humming Old MacDonald all the way down the hall.
Standing in the yard now, knuckles aching, he could hear it too. Old MacDonald had a farm. And everything was hunky-dory on it. You farmed and tilled and reaped and sowed and everything was just fucking great. Everyone got along, even the chickens and the cows, and no one needed to talk about anything, because nothing bad ever happened and nobody had any secrets because secrets were for bad people, people who climbed in cars that smelled of apples with strange men and disappeared for four days, only to come back home and find everyone they'd known had disappeared, too, been replaced with smiley-faced look-alikes who'd do just about anything but listen to you. ~ Dennis Lehane
