All formal dogmatic religions are fallacious and must never be accepted by self-respecting persons as final. ~ Hypatia
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Hypatia
The principle itself of dogmatic religion, dogmatic morality, dogmatic philosophy, is what requires to be booted out; not any particular manifestation of that principle. ~ John Stuart Mill
Dogmatic Religion quotes by John Stuart Mill
All forms of dogmatic religion should go. The world did without them in the past and can do so again. ~ Theodore Dreiser
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Theodore Dreiser
If I were personally to define religion, I would say that it is a bandage that man has invented to protect a soul made bloody by circumstances. All forms of dogmatic religion should go. The world did without them in the past and can do so again. I cite the great civilizations of China and India. ~ Theodore Dreiser
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Theodore Dreiser
Do not feed children on a maudlin sentimentalism or dogmatic religion; give them nature. Let their souls drink in all that is pure and sweet. Rear them, if possible, amid pleasant surroundings ... Let nature teach them the lessons of good and proper living, combined with an abundance of well-balanced nourishment. Those children will grow to be the best men and women. Put the best in them by contact with the best outside. They will absorb it as a plant absorbs the sunshine and the dew. ~ Luther Burbank
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Luther Burbank
Dogmatic religion has been used to fantastic effect over thousands of years to fuel and exploit emotions like fear and guilt, and the feeling of being 'unworthy'. This has encouraged people to hand over their right to think and feel to a Bible and a priest because they have not had the confidence or self-belief to realize that they have a right, and an infinite gift, to make their own decisions ~ David Icke
Dogmatic Religion quotes by David Icke
It goes without saying that it is the traditionally minded Hindu we have in view, and not one whose hereditary dispositions have deviated in an anti-traditional direction, to the point of proving that "corruptio optimi pessima." Hinduism, strictly speaking, has no "dogmas" in the sense that every concept may be denied, on condition that the argument used is intrinsically true; which amounts to saying that concepts can be denied from the standpoint of a higher level of truth, metaphysics standing above cosmology and realization above theory as such. However, on their own level, the scriptural symbols of Hinduism are just as immovable as the Semitic dogmas, and this excludes any fallacious comparison of Hindu doctrine with the opinions of philosophers. No orthodox Hindu can maintain that the Veda has been mistaken on any point whatsoever. ~ Frithjof Schuon
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Frithjof Schuon
The only thing that guarantees an open-ended collaboration among human beings, the only thing that guarantees that this project is truly open-ended, is a willingness to have our beliefs and behaviors modified by the power of conversation. ~ Sam Harris
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Sam Harris
There are people in this country who will argue that because of the demise of morals in general, and Sunday school in particular, kids today are losing their innocence before they should, that because of cartoons and Ken Starr and curricula about their classmates who have two mommies, youth learn too soon about sex and death. Well, like practically everyone else in the Western world who came of age since Gutenberg, I lost my innocence the old-time-religion way, by reading the nursery rhyme of fornication that is the Old Testament and the fairy tale bloodbath that is the New. Job taught me Hey! Life's not fair! Lot's wife taught me that I'm probably going to come across a few weird sleazy things I won't be able to resist looking into. And the book of Revelation taught me to live in the moment, if only because the future's so grim.

Being a fundamentalist means going straight to the source. I was asked to not only read the Bible, but to memorize Bible verses. If it wasn't for the easy access to the sordid Word of God I might have had an innocent childhood. Instead, I was a worrywart before my time, shivering in constant fear of a god who, from what I could tell, huffed and puffed around the cosmos looking like my dad did when my sister refused to take her vitamins that one time.

God wasn't exactly a children's rights advocate. The first thing a child reading the Bible notices is that you're supposed to honor your mother and father but they're not necessaril ~ Sarah Vowell
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Sarah Vowell
Gnani Purush' [the enlightened one] has the [knowledge of the-Self] essence of all religions. ~ Dada Bhagwan
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Dada Bhagwan
Compassion is not a popular virtue. Very often when I talk to religious people, and mention how important it is that compassion is the key, that it's the sine-qua-non of religion, people look kind of balked, and stubborn sometimes, as much to say, what's the point of having religion if you can't disapprove of other people? ~ Karen Armstrong
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Karen Armstrong
The biggest threat to the religious experience may well come from organized religion itself. ~ Diane Ackerman
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Diane Ackerman
Aristotle said that philosophy begins in wonder. I believe it also ends in wonder. The ultimate way in which we relate to the world as something sacred is by renewing our sense of wonder. That's why I'm so opposed to the kind of miracle-mongering we find in both new-age and old-age religion. We're attracted to pseudomiracles only because we've ceased to wonder at the world, at how amazing it is. ~ Sam Keen
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Sam Keen
The creator who could put a cancer in a believer's stomach is above being
interfered with by prayers. ~ Bret Harte
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Bret Harte
There is no great religion without a great schism. All of them have it. And that's because you're dealing with something called faith. And faith is not something you can prove; faith is personal opinion. Uh, when you're dealing with something with certainty, like, y'know, science or logic, you don't have the
there's no wiggle room; that's why history is not filled with warring math cults, y'know, because you can settle the issue; you can prove something to be right or wrong, and that's the end of the argument: next case. Whereas, when you're dealing with faith, you can forever argue your point, or another point, because you're dealing with intangibles. Personally, I think, faith is what you ask of somebody when you don't have the goods to prove your point. ~ Tom Quinn
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Tom Quinn
We have the most religious freedom of any country in the world, including the freedom not to believe. ~ William J. Clinton
Dogmatic Religion quotes by William J. Clinton
... the doctrinal differences between Hinduism and Buddhism and Taoism are not anywhere near as important as doctrinal differences among Christianity and Islam and Judaism. Holy wars are not fought over them because verbalized statements about reality are never presumed to be reality itself. ~ Robert M. Pirsig
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Robert M. Pirsig
Today, almost half a century after the publication of the Encyclical [of Pius IX], new knowledge has led to the recognition in the theory of evolution of more than a hypothesis. It is indeed remarkable that this theory has been progressively accepted by researchers, following a series of discoveries in various fields of knowledge. The convergence, neither sought nor fabricated, of the results of work that was conducted independently is in itself a significant argument in favor of this theory. ~ Pope John Paul II
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Pope John Paul II
The future is religion and commerce, aphrodisiac and Benzedrine, a mother of mysterious comfort and a mistress of familiar ravishments ever on the verge of embracing or destroying us. ~ Eugene Kennedy
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Eugene Kennedy
How would I know what Jesus would have done? That fella was a mass of contradictions as far as I can see. One minute he says to turn the other cheek, the next minute he's having a big strop and kicking over lads' market stalls. He says blessed are the meek and he goes around shouting and roaring the odds to everyone. He rises from the dead and then shags off a few weeks later and leaves his buddies in the shit. ~ Donal Ryan
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Donal Ryan
The spectacle of what is called religion, or at any rate organised religion, in India and elsewhere, has filled me with horror and I have frequently condemned it and wished to make a clean sweep of it. Almost always it seemed to stand for blind belief and reaction, dogma and bigotry, superstition, exploitation and the preservation of vested interests. ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru
Christians and Jews don't believe in Allah or Brahma. Hindus don't believe in Yahweh or Allah. Muslims don't believe in Brahma or Yahweh. Atheists agree with all of them. ~ Mark Thomas
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Mark Thomas
I have often thought that the difference between a cult and a religion is an IRS ruling. ~ Ron Barrier
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Ron Barrier
A great responsibility to bring and give
a new way of watching to the world.
The Religion Of The Blue Circle
Religious Leader Petra Cecilia Maria Hermans
December 25, 2016 ~ Petra Hermans
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Petra Hermans
Explore the spirituality of your soul. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Religion is for those of us with too little imagination....or too much. ~ Commander Pants
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Commander Pants
The church has been brought into the same value system as the world: fame, success, materialism and celebrity. We watch the leading churches and the leading Christians for our cues. We want to emulate the best known preachers with the biggest sanctuaries and the grandest edifices. Preoccupation with these values has perverted the church's message. ~ Charles Colson
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Charles Colson
We seek compensation, true, but we also seek to prevent future abhorrent conduct by this or any other priest. We seek to punish a vicious predator of children and the religious institution that stands idly by and watches while a whole generation of God's precious children are physically and psychologically raped of their childhood, their faith, and their trust in role models. This is about a hierarchy whose solution to the problem is to send the offending priest packing, quietly pay off victims, and actively cover up crimes. The cover-up is responsible for a vicious cycle of crime upon crime. This lawsuit says we will not go quietly like those who came before us. The vicious cycle stops here and now. ~ Mark M. Bello
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Mark M. Bello
I don't pray because it doesn't work. Prayer doesn't fix anything. Bad things happen anyway. ~ Nicholas Sparks
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Nicholas Sparks
Idolatrous beliefs have eroded the foundations of truth. Whether ancient or modern, all have posed alternatives to the biblical way of approaching God. ~ Billy Graham
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Billy Graham
The object of our lives is to look at, listen to, touch, taste things. Without them - these sticks, stones, feathers, shells - there is no Deity. ~ R.H. Blyth
Dogmatic Religion quotes by R.H. Blyth
Christians. They're determined to rid the land of any who worship the Horned One. Murdering all the druids, burning the temples, sometimes whole villages, and knocking over the standing stones."
The Lady's face hardened. "This god of peace and love certainly likes to bathe the land in blood. ~ Brom
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Brom
Men create the gods after their own images. ~ Aristotle.
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Aristotle.
The Qur'an has not merely been revealed in Arabic: it has been revealed in eloquent Arabic. The language is clear and cogent, and there is no vagueness in it; every word is unambiguous and every style adopted is well known to its addressees. The Qur'an says:

The faithful Spirit has brought it down into your heart [O Prophet] that you may become a warner [for people] in eloquent Arabic. (26:193-195)

In the form of an Arabic Qur'an, free from any ambiguity that they may save themselves [from punishment]. (39:28)

This is an obvious reality about the Qur'an. If this premise is accepted, then it must be conceded that no word used or style adopted by the Qur'an is rare or unknown (shadh). Its words and styles are well known and conventionally understood by its addressees. No aspect of the language has any peculiarity or rarity in it. Consequently, while interpreting the Qur'an, the conventionally understood and known meanings of the words should be taken into consideration. Apart from them, no interpretation is acceptable. Thus in the verses: وَالنَّجْمُ وَالشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ (6:55), the meaning of the word اَلنَّجْمُ can only be "stars". In وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ وَلَا نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَلْقَى الشَّيْطَانُ فِي أُمْنِيَّتِهِ (52:22), the word تَمَنَّى can only mean "desire". In أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ (17:88), the word الْإِبِلِ has only been used for "camel". The only meaning of t ~ Javed Ahmad Ghamidi
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Javed Ahmad Ghamidi
Many people confuse religion with God and walk away from them both. The point isn't Christianity, the point is being a Christian. ~ Rob Bell
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Rob Bell
To become the founder of a new religion one must be psychologically infallible in one's knowledge of a certain average type of souls who have not yet recognized that they belong together. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
One of the most significant lessons Jesus taught his disciples was to stop looking for God's life in the regimen of rituals and rules. He came not to refurbish religion, but to offer them a relationship. ~ Jake Colsen
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Jake Colsen
He saw a cross on a wall with another cross behind it, a shadow cross, the shadow of what God left behind when God was gone, the continued need for joy and beauty, a commitment to hope where there appeared to be none, and to grace in spite of everything. ~ Richard Rayner
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Richard Rayner
The fool has said in his heart: pass me another Everlasting God-Stopper, please. ~ M.J. McGuire
Dogmatic Religion quotes by M.J. McGuire
What has God called a religion? Renunciation is not religion. To be free of anger-pride-deceit-greed (kashays) is religion; or to have feeble (tamed) kashays is religion. That's all. Only these two are religion. ~ Dada Bhagwan
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Dada Bhagwan
According to Teleology, each organism is like a rifle bullet fired straight at a mark; according to Darwin, organisms are like grapeshot of which one hits something and the rest fall wide.
For the teleologist an organism exists because it was made for the conditions in which it is found; for the Darwinian an organism exists because, out of many of its kind, it is the only one which has been able to persist in the conditions in which it is found.
Teleology implies that the organs of every organism are perfect and cannot be improved; the Darwinian theory simply affirms that they work well enough to enable the organism to hold its own against such competitors as it has met with, but admits the possibility of indefinite improvement. ~ Thomas Henry Huxley
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Thomas Henry Huxley
Many hidden truths are often unobserved, not invisible. ~ Matthew A. Petti
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Matthew A. Petti
I've always liked what Thomas More said in Utopia, which is that in Utopia every person is allowed their own lifestyle and religion but no one is allowed to stand on a soapbox and tell others that theirs is right. I thought that was brilliant. Brilliant. ~ Jude Law
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Jude Law
No one can know how long this dumbing-down of American religion will persist. But so long as it does, citizens should probably be more vigilant about policing the public square, not less so ... [Y]ou cannot sustain liberal democracy without cultivating liberal habits of mind among religious believers. That remains true today, both in Baghdad and in Baton Rouge. ~ Mark Lilla
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Mark Lilla
Never trust a man who thinks his religion gives him all the answers. ~ Charles Stross
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Charles Stross
Or you may say, "This is bad, so I should not do this." Actually, when you say, "I should not do this," you are doing not-doing in that moment. So there is no choice for you. When you separate the idea of time and space, you feel as if you have some choice, but actually, you have to do something, or you have to do not-doing. Not-to-do something is doing something. Good and bad are only in your mind. So we should not say, "This is good," or "This is bad." Instead of saying bad, you should say, "not-to-do"! If you think, "This is bad," it will create some confusion for you. So in the realm of pure religion there is no confusion of time and space, or good or bad. All that we should do is just do something as it comes. Do something! Whatever it is, we should do it, even if it is not-doing something. We should live in this moment. ~ Shunryu Suzuki
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Shunryu Suzuki
The truth of the matter is that when you write about religion like I do, you're writing about something that people take very seriously. ~ Reza Aslan
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Reza Aslan
The merit of Mahomet is that he founded a religion without an inferno. ~ Napoleon Bonaparte
Dogmatic Religion quotes by Napoleon Bonaparte
How can I accept the Communist doctrine, which sets up as its bible, above and beyond criticism, an obsolete textbook which I know not only to be scientifically erroneous but without interest or application to the modern world? How can I adopt a creed which, preferring the mud to the fish, exalts the boorish proletariat above the bourgeoisie and the intelligentsia, who with all their faults, are the quality of life and surely carry the seeds of all human achievement? Even if we need a religion, how can we find it in the turbid rubbish of the red bookshop? It is hard for an educated, decent, intelligent son of Western Europe to find his ideals here, unless he has first suffered some strange and horrid process of conversion which has changed all his values. ~ John Maynard Keynes
