Send anyone claiming that their RPG activity is an art form my way, and I'll gladly stick a pin in their head and deflate it just to have the satisfaction of the popping sound that makes.
One might play a game artfully, but that makes neither the game nor its play art. ~ Gary Gygax
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Gary Gygax
You are not entering this world in the usual manner, for you are setting forth to be a Dungeon Master. Certainly there are stout fighters, mighty magic-users, wily thieves, and courageous clerics who will make their mark in the magical lands of D&D adventure. You however, are above even the greatest of these, for as DM you are to become the Shaper of the Cosmos. It is you who will give form and content to the all the universe. You will breathe life into the stillness, giving meaning and purpose to all the actions which are to follow. ~ Gary Gygax
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Gary Gygax
It turns out Dungeons & Dragons is much better on paper than it is in reality. ~ Robin Sloan
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Robin Sloan
I've always been a gamer. I play a version of Dungeons & Dragons. ~ Thomas Middleditch
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Thomas Middleditch
Weirdly, D&D didn't encourage my leanings towards trying magic of my own at all. In fact, it frustrated them. Even the most pompous and ambitious historical magicians, from the Zaroastrian Magi through John Dee, Francis Barrett and Aleister Crowley, never claimed to be able to throw fireballs or lightning bolts like D&D wizards can. So D&D was never going to feed the fantasies of practising magic in the real world. That is all about gaining secret knowledge, a higher level of perception or inflicting misfortune or a boon on someone rather than causing a poisonous cloud of vapor to pour from your fingers (Cloudkill, deadly to creatures with less than 5 hit dice, for those who are interested). The game, as we played it, just doesn't support the occult idea of magic.

In fact, it might even be argued that, by giving such a powerful prop to my imagination, D&D stopped me from going deeper into the occult in real life. I certainly had all the qualifications - bullied power-hungry twerp with no discernable skill in conventional fields and no immediate hope of a girlfriend who wasn't mentally ill. It's amazing I'm not out sacrificing goats to this day. ~ Mark Barrowcliffe
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Mark Barrowcliffe
There's a lot of things I nerd out over. Quantum Mechanics. I also love Dungeons and Dragons. I want to be an astronaut. ~ Analeigh Tipton
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Analeigh Tipton
Lawful good to lawful evil!" said Simon, pleased.
"He's quoting Dungeons and Dragons," said Clary. "Ignore him. ~ Cassandra Clare
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Cassandra Clare
The closest I ever got to Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms was when I bought the box game set for the latter (I think this was before the novels came out). I well recall this - we were living in James Bay, in Victoria. We opened the box up and took out the maps while sitting in a Mexican restaurant. Ten minutes later I was as close as I have ever been to publicly burning someone else's creation…What bothered us was the reworking of every fantasy cliché imaginable, all in one package now, and none of it made sense. ~ Steven Erikson
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Steven Erikson
I was never really a nerd. I'm not really into comic books or Dungeons and Dragons or any of that kind of stuff. I was in drama class, and I'm a big movie and music buff. And I'm into sports. ~ Christopher Mintz-Plasse
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Christopher Mintz-Plasse
I loved 'Dungeons & Dragons.' Actually, not so much the actual playing as the creation of characters and the opportunity to roll twenty-sided dice. I loved those pouches of dice Dungeon Masters would trundle around, loved choosing what I was going to be: warrior, wizard, dwarf, thief. ~ Michael Ian Black
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Michael Ian Black
The main difference between liberals and conservatives is that conservatives are honest about it. We're kind of dorks about it. We are kind of like Dungeons and Dragons geeks. ~ Jonah Goldberg
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Jonah Goldberg
I have an idea," Simon said. "Remember how before, I was talking about Dungeons and Dragons?"
"Vividly," Jace said. "It was a dark time. ~ Cassandra Clare
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Cassandra Clare
I suspect millions of people from my generation probably have comparable stories to tell: if not of sports simulations then of Dungeons & Dragons, or the geopolitical strategy of games like Diplomacy, a kind of chess superimposed onto actual history. ~ Steven Johnson
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Steven Johnson
Working with franchises can be challenging, but at the same time I really did enjoy working on 'Star Wars,' for example, and I have done a lot of 'Dungeons & Dragons' games, but I still enjoy it very much. ~ Chris Avellone
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Chris Avellone
He was a very tall, very thin creature that could only be described as a wood elf. His long, ponytailed hair was every color of autumn leaves; his skin was the hue of fresh-cut pine boards; and his eyes were the vibrant color of fresh spring foliage. He also wore blue jeans and brown loafers and a ragged t-shirt that read, "Choose your Weapon!" under which sat a line of Dungeons and Dragons dice of various shapes and denominations.
Kay could barely believe it. For one, where did he get that shirt? These Otherworld people LIVED Dungeons and Dragons--they played it too? For a second Kay thought she might be looking at the most ironic t-shirt and t-shirt wearer combination ever. ~ Nils Johnson-Shelton
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Nils Johnson-Shelton
Hey, laugh all you want, but I grew up poor in backwoods Florida, with an immigrant, single mom. I'm the only person in my family who learned to read, and that was only because of comic books at first, and then fantasy novels and an active imagination. I got addicted to them when I was a kid and read like crazy. I must have read thousands of them. So I've been reading about elves and that kind of thing for twenty plus years. I can't help it if I'm excited." "You were a geek," she said. "Well, I guess." "I bet you played Dungeons and Dragons in a friend's garage." "Well, yeah." "Nerd. ~ Larry Correia
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Larry Correia
My favorite video game of all time is called 'Black Tiger'. It's a Capcom Dungeons and Dragons game from 1987. I have the actual arcade version sitting in my office. ~ Ernest Cline
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Ernest Cline
He sighed and opened the black box and took out his rings and slipped them on. Another box held a set of knives and Klatchian steel, their blades darkened with lamp black. Various cunning and intricate devices were taken from velvet bags and dropped into pockets. A couple of long-bladed throwing tlingas were slipped into their sheaths inside his boots. A thin silk line and folding grapnel were wound around his waist, over the chain-mail shirt. A blowpipe was attached to its leather thong and dropped down the back of his cloak; Teppic picked a slim tin container with an assortment of darts, their tips corked and their stems braille-coded for ease of selection in the dark.

He winced, checked the blade of his rapier and slung the baldric over his right shoulder, to balance the bag of lead slingshot ammunition. As an afterthought he opened his sock drawer and took a pistol crossbow, a flask of oil, a roll of lockpicks and, after some consideration, a punch dagger, a bag of assorted caltrops and a set of brass knuckles.

Teppic picked up his hat and checked it's lining for the coil of cheesewire. He placed it on his head at a jaunty angle, took a last satisfied look at himself in the mirror, turned on his heel and, very slowly, fell over. ~ Terry Pratchett
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Terry Pratchett
In high school, I played a lot of Dungeons and Dragons. (You may not have guessed this botanist/mechanical engineer was a bit of a nerd in high school, but indeed I was.) In the game I played a cleric. One of the magic spells I could cast was "Create Water." I always thought it was a really stupid spell, and I never used it. Boy, what I wouldn't give to be able to do that in real life right now. ~ Andy Weir
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Andy Weir
So imagine: Dungeons and Dragons [is] a table filled with artists, whether they're painters, whether they're actors, whether they're poets … - whatever they are, they are able to live in this world of imagination. ~ Vin Diesel
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Vin Diesel
Dungeons & Dragons was like that. Forget that half the kids in school probably went around slaying dragons and stashing loot on their PlayStations or iPads. It's different when you actually have to roll the dice. ~ John David Anderson
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by John David Anderson
It was a lot of 'Dungeons and Dragons' all through my teens. ~ Drew Goddard
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Drew Goddard
I've never actually participated in role-playing games myself, except on one occasion when a coworker of mine came to my house and introduced my two brothers and me to a single game of 'Dungeons & Dragons.' ~ Jeffrey Thomas
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Jeffrey Thomas
If a guy can't handle it when you talk about quantum physics, Manga, or Dungeons and Dragons, then he probably isn't the guy for you. If he gets embarrassed by your bluntness, you're probably not a good match. If he doesn't get your jokes, references, etc., then do you really want to pursue it? We tend to feel flawed and want to change ourselves to be accepted. We are good mimics and we think that we can mimic being the kind of girl that guys will like. By all means work on yourself, but most important, be yourself. ~ Rudy Simone
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Rudy Simone
We have 'Doctor Who' references on 'Futurama,' but we have a lot of science fiction references that I don't get; but in the staff we have experts on 'Star Trek,' 'Star Wars,' 'Doctor Who' and 'Dungeons and Dragons.' ~ Matt Groening
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Matt Groening
No, Kara was the one with the Dungeons and Dragons mini dress. ~ Penny Reid
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Penny Reid
This, since junior school, had been virtually my only experience of women - as fantasy figures. Reading about women in fantasy novels had set me an even more unrealistic point of view. The Lord of the Rings doesn't help, with its sexless visions of elf maidens who may as well be speaking paintings, and neither does other fantasy literature, where women seem to exist solely to be rescued or slept with. The men they want are sorcerer-kings, doomed warriors or deadly assassins. I think the idea that women might fancy good-looking, well-adjusted men who are nice to them is too much for the average fantasy-head to bear. ~ Mark Barrowcliffe
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Mark Barrowcliffe
I loved 'Dungeons & Dragons'. That was actually a good cartoon to me. ~ Jim Rash
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Jim Rash
Let there be wicked kings and beheadings, battles and dungeons, giants and dragons, and let the villans be soundly killed at the end of the book. I think it is possible that by confining your child to the blameless stories of life in which nothing at all alarming ever happens, you would fail to banish the terrors, and would succeed in banishing all that can ennoble them or make them endurable. ~ C.S. Lewis
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by C.S. Lewis
If every cigarette you smoke takes seven minutes off of your life, every game of Dungeons & Dragons you play delays the loss of your virginity by seven hours. ~ Marilyn Manson
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Marilyn Manson
Never done anything yourself, have yer? Never performed live to a real audience, have yer?' 'Nor have I fucked a donkey, destabilized a Central American state, or played Dungeons & Dragons,' retorts Cheeseman, 'but I reserve the right to hold opinions on those who do. ~ David Mitchell
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by David Mitchell
Even then, I was dreaming of Raistlin's black robes one moment, and Dorsett's spin move the next. This was what my father deeded
that our Knowledge of Self be more than America, that we understand the brain death that sprawled from the projects to the subdivisions. Consciousness was a beginning, but the imagination could turn straight 18s into paladins in plate, could make warrens in tunnels from graph paper, could pull armies of gnolls from miniatures
that was the Knowledge that ultimately would find a way out. ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Ta-Nehisi Coates
I was a founding member of the 'Dungeons and Dragons' club at my high school. I was in chorus, I was in swing choir. I was an outcast but I was an outcast among a group of outcasts. ~ John C. Reilly
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by John C. Reilly
I used to a play a role-playing game called Dungeons and Dragons, and that was about levels of experience; as you gained experience, you were able to deal with much greater and far more kind of global creatures. ~ Ben Edlund
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Ben Edlund
Cards and boards, [Johnny] thought. And the dead. That's not dark forces. Making a fuss about cards and heavy metal and going on about Dungeons and Dragons stuff because it's got demon gods in it is like guarding to door when it is really coming up through the floorboards. Real dark forces ... aren't dark. They're sort of gray, like Mr. Grimm. They take all the color out of life; they take a town like Blackbury and turn it into frightened streets and plastic signs and Bright New Futures and towers where no one wants to live and no one really does live. The dead seem more alive than us. And everyone becomes gray and turns into numbers and then, somewhere, someone starts to do arithmetic ... ~ Terry Pratchett
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Terry Pratchett
Never go into a book. Either it's a dimensional portal, which is bad, or it's some sort of Dungeons and Dragons-style mimic-thing, which is also bad, although in a less 'we'll never find your body' sort of a way. ~ Seanan McGuire
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Seanan McGuire
I read a lot of fantasy and grew up on 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek.' I loved going to Middle Earth. 'Dungeons & Dragons' was a huge influence. ~ Tony DiTerlizzi
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Tony DiTerlizzi
Magic: The Gathering is like Dungeons and Dragons if D&D was played with cards and didn't take 18 weeks. ~ MaryJanice Davidson
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by MaryJanice Davidson
Somebody said they threw their copy of Dungeons and Dragons into the fire, and it screamed. It's a game! The magic spells in it are as real as the gold. Try retiring on that stuff. ~ Gary Gygax
Dnd Dungeons Dragons Rpgs quotes by Gary Gygax
I started playing video games, and in 1978 I discovered Dungeons & Dragons and started game-mastering and writing my own adventures and creating my own worlds. ~ Warren Spector
